CERTAIN CARDONE MASTER CYLINDERS WITH PART NUMBERS 10-2925, 10-2987, 10-2987MZA, 10-3083, 11-3015, 11-3042, 11-3044, 11-3045, 11-3047, 11-3064, AND 11-3156, AND WITH DATE CODES LOWER THAN DCA7078 SOLD AS REPLACEMENT EQUIPMENT FOR USE ON THE VEHICLES LISTED ABOVE. THE SEAL ON MASTER CYLINDER CAN FAIL AND LEAK BRAKE FLUID.

Fix: CARDONE WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND OFFER TO REPURCHASE ANY DEFECTIVE MASTER CYLINDERS. THE RECALL BEGAN DURING APRIL 2007. OWNERS CAN CONTACT CARDONE AT 1-800-777-4780.

Your brake pedal sank to the floor when you pressed it while driving at 35 mph, and your check brakes and traction control warning lights came on. This problem started intermittently but became a recurring issue. You discovered Toyota had issued a recall for this problem, but you weren't notified automatically—you only found out after calling them and researching online.

MY 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA EXPERIENCED BRAKE FAILURE AT 10 MILES PER HOUR. I WAS LOOKING TO MAKE A TURN AT THE LIGHT AND MY VEHICLE GAVE ME A HUGE JERK AND THE BRAKES BEGIN TO GIVE OUT. AFTER THE BRAKE FAILURE THE VS AND BRAKES LIGHT CAME ON. I HAVE SEEN A LOT OF PEOPLE POSTING THIS PROBLEM WITH THERE VEHICLE. I AM LOOKING FOR HELP SINCE MY CHILDREN DRIVE MY VEHICLE SOMETIMES. HELP!!! I BROUGHT THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE OF IT'S REPUTATION. HOWEVER, AFTER SEEING ALL THE ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE AND TOYOTA REFUSAL TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM, MY FAMILY WILL BE LOOKING ELSE WHERE.

I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED IN 2008 WITH APPROXIMATELY 40,000 MILES ON IT. SHORTLY AFTER I GOT IT, THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON FOR WHAT SEEMED LIKE NO NOTICEABLE REASON. I HAD IT CHECKED OUT BY THE DEALER AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. THROUGHOUT THE TIME I'VE HAD THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKE LIGHT CONTINUES TO COME ON PERIODICALLY. I'VE HAD IT CHECKED OUT A FEW TIMES AND THEY ALWAYS SAY NOTHING IS WRONG. ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO I WAS STOPPING FOR A RED LIGHT AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I BROUGHT IT IN AND THEY SAID THERE WAS AIR IN THE LINE, WHICH THEY FIXED. AFTER THAT TIME MY BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON SEVERAL TIMES, BUT I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST THE FALSE ALARMS THAT I HAD ALWAYS GOTTEN. THEN LAST NIGHT (9/15/2014) I HAD THE PROBLEM ONCE AGAIN WITH THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WHEN I WAS TRYING TO STOP FOR A LIGHT AND THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T STOP UNTIL I LIFTED MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND PUT IT BACK ON. NOW THE DEALER SAYS THERE IS A LEAK IN THE MASTER CYLINDER. ONE OF MY FEARS FROM ALL THESE YEARS OF THE BRAKE LIGHT COMING ON FOR NO REAL REASON WAS THAT ONE DAY IT WOULD COME ON FOR A VALID REASON AND I WOULDN'T KNOW BECAUSE OF ALL THE PREVIOUS FALSE ALARM LIGHTS. I HAVE BROUGHT THIS VEHICLE TO DEALER NUMEROUS TIME OVER THE YEARS THAT THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. OVER THE YEARS THEY COULD NOT PULL A CODE BECAUSE THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT WAS NOT ON. BECAUSE IT WAS SPORADIC I LEFT IT UNTIL IT THEY CAME ON AND WOULD NOT GO OFF. WHILE DRIVING AND GRADUALLY PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, MY 2004 SEQUOIA SUDDENLY AND ABRUPTLY STOPS WHILE BEING DRIVEN ON CITY STREETS OR FREEWAY AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 35 TO 55 MPH. IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE ABRUPT AND UNEXPECTEDLY STOP, THE BRAKES APPEAR TO REMAINED ENGAGED (VEHICLE IS STOPPED) MOMENTARILY (FOR A FEW SECONDS); ALTHOUGH, THE BRAKE PEDAL IS NO LONGER DEPRESSED. IN ORDER TO GET THE SUV MOVING FORWARD AGAIN, ONE MUST PRESS THE GAS PEDAL (MORE THAN USUAL), BECAUSE THE VEHICLE SEEMS TO HESITATE OR BE STUCK/STOPPED. BECAUSE OF THE UNUSUALLY HIGH GAS PEDAL REQUIREMENT, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY/DANGEROUSLY LUNGES FORWARD. THIS HOLE UNEXPECTED, ABRUPT STOPPING AND ABRUPT RAPID FORWARD PROCESS IS QUITE UNSETTLING AND SCARY. WE'RE THE ORIGINAL OWNERS OF THIS 2004 SEQUOIA AND THE VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS BEEN MAINTAINED AND INSPECTED 2 TO 4 TIMES PER YEAR BY TOYOTA DEALERS IN ORANGE COUNTY, CALIF. THEY COULD NOT TELL ME WHAT WAS CAUSING THE LIGHT TO COME ON AFTER KEEPING THE VEHICLE ALL DAY. I TOOK IT TO AN INDEPENDENT DEALER COSBY BODY SHOP AND HE CHECKED THE SUV BUT COULD NOT SEE WHAT WAS WRONG SINCE THE LIGHT WAS NOT ON. THE BRAKES DID NOT SHOW ENOUGHT SINIFICANT WARE OR TARE AND THERE WAS BRAKE FLUID IN THE BRAKE FLUID CLYDER HE DID NOT NEED TO ADD ANY. I WAS TOLD TO BRING IT BACK WHEN IT COMES ON AGAIN AND I DID. HE CHECKED AND DISCOVERED THAT IT MAYBE THE BRAKE SINCER. NOW, I AM CALLING TOYATO FOR ASSISTANCE TO SEE IF THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE. *TR

I HAVE A 2004 SEQUOIA AND I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE VSC, TRAC, ABS, AND BRAKE LIGHTS RANDOMLY COMING ON FOR THE LAST 3 YEARS. I ONLY HAVE 105,000 MILES. THE BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF REGULARLY (MOSTLY ON MORE THAN OFF). HOWEVER WITH THE OTHER LIGHTS IT IS VERY RANDOM. UPON BRAKING, I WILL EXPERIENCE A LOUD GRINDING SOUND, THE CAR JERKS/WHIPLASH MOTION, THE CAR IS HARD TO STOP AND MANAGE AND THEN ALL THE LIGHTS COME ON AFTER THIS OCCURS. IT ALL HAPPENS WITHIN 3-5 SECONDS TOTAL BUT THE LIGHTS STAY ON UNTIL THE CAR IS TURNED OFF. IT MAY DO IT 2-3 MORE TIMES OR MIGHT NOT DO IT AGAIN FOR A WEEK OR EVEN AS LONG AS A MONTH. I SIMPLY WAS COASTING FROM A FAST FOOD SPEAKER TO THE WINDOW TO PAY AND I EXPERIENCED IT AND IT ALMOST PUSHED ME INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. IT HAS DONE IT WHEN BREAKING COMING UP TO A RED OR YELLOW LIGHT. I LET OFF THE BRAKE WHEN IT DOES IT AND PRESS AGAIN AND IT MAY DO IT 2-3 TIMES UNTIL I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP OR MIGHT NOT DO IT AGAIN ONCE I RELEASE THE BRAKE THE FIRST TIME. IT IS DIFFICULT TO DETECT BECAUSE IT OCCURS AT DIFFERENT TIMES, DIFFERENT PLACES, DIFFERENT BRAKING SPEEDS AND MIGHT NOT DO IT AGAIN FOR A WHILE. FOR 3 YEARS I HAVE PUT UP WITH THIS. I GO TO THE DEALER AND NOTHING CAN BE PROVEN UNLESS LIGHTS ON AT THAT TIME. WHEN I WENT TO THE FIRST PLACE I COULD GET TO BEFORE THEY WENT OFF THEY HOOKED IT UP TO A MACHINE AND 6 POSSIBLE PROBLEMS CAME UP. I HAVE READ THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR 2003-2004 MODELS AND YOU FIX ONE THING AND THATS NOT THE ISSUE. I HAVE BEEN TOLD IT IS A COMPUTER/BRAKE COMMUNICATION FLAW. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WITH THE COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM FROM INDIVIDUALS EVEN ON THE NATIONAL TRANSPORTATION BOARD PAGE THAT THIS IS NOT CONSIDERED A RECALL. THE LOW TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE REAR BRAKE PADS WERE WORN AND LEAKING BRAKE FLUID, WHICH ALSO NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 151,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THE TRACTION CONTROL, BRAKE AND CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS ALL ILLUMINATED AFTER THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND THE TRACTION CONTROL AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC, LOCATING THE FAILURE AT THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR, THE ECU, ENGINE CONTROL MODULE AND THE ABS CONTROL SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 113,761.

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING VEHICLE AND SHE HAD NOTICED A BANG OR THUMP COMING FROM THE CAR. SHE HAD NOTICED PRIOR THAT THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT HAD COME SPORADICALLY. THE TRAC, VSC, AND ABS LIGHTS CAME ON AND HAVE STAYED ON SINCE. THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS HAVE BEEN TURNED TWICE SINCE THEN BECAUSE FOR WHATEVER REASON THE ROTORS ARE WARPING. THE FRONT BRAKES GRIND NOW AND THE ONLY WAY TO STOP IT, IS TO TURN THE ROTORS. CHECKED INTO THE REPAIR, BUT UNABLE TO AFFORD $2,000 TO FIX A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. WE LOVE THE VEHICLE BUT HATE THE PROBLEM THAT WE ARE HAVING AND DISAPPOINTED WITH TOYOTA. *TR

I TOOK IT TO TOYOTA AND WAS TOLD THE FOLLOWING CODES: C1203, C1223, AND C1247. RECOMMENDED BRAKE BOOSTER AND SKID CONTROL COMPUTER BE REPLACED AT A COST OF OVER $2K. SINCE I HAVE LOW MILEAGE THE DEALER CHECKED WITH TOYOTA TO SEE IF THIS WOULD COVERED AND THEY SAID NO. JUST TODAY THE VSC TRAC, TRAC OFF CAME ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 45MPH. THE DEALER FOUND CODES C1247 AD C1223; ABS CONTROL SYSTEM MALFUNCTION AND INTERMITTENT FAILURE OF THE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY. THE DEALER ALSO FOUND THE DRIVE SHAFT YOKE NEEDED MODIFICATION. THE ECU UNIT IS NOW ON RECALL BUT THEY ARE RESTRICTING IT TO ONLY 2003 MODEL. I HAVE A 2004 & IT HAS THE SAME PROBLEM THE 2003 HAS. ON 8/4/08, THE SAME THING HAPPENED WITH THE ADDED ELEMENT OF A LOUD NOISE AND THE BRAKES ENGAGING IN A VERY ABRUPT MANNER. THIS SPONTANEOUS BRAKING COULD POTENTIALLY RESULT IN A REAR END OR ROLL OVER SITUATION SHOULD THE WRONG CONDITIONS EXIST. WE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN TO A NEARBY TOYOTA DEALER. THE SERVICE ADIVSOR INFORMED US THAT OUR VSC COMPUTER NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE REPLACEMENT WOULD COST $1252.00 FOR THE PART ALONE WITH A TOTAL COST OF $1400.00 TO ADDRESS THIS MALFUNCTION. RESEARCH OF RELATED PROBLEMS REVEALED THAT THE VSC COMPUTER SEEMS TO BE GOING BAD ON 2001 AND NEWER TUNDRAS AND SEQUOIAS. WE CONTACTED REGIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE, WHO IN TURN REFERRED US BACK TO THE DEALER CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE. THE CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE CONDUCTED AN INVESTIGATION AND INDICATED THAT AN OUT OF WARRANTY GOODWILL REPAIR WAS DECLINED DUE TO THE FACT THAT WE WERE NOT "LOYAL" TOYOTA CUSTOMERS. WE ARE THE ORIGINAL OWNERS OF THE VEHICLE, PRIOR TO THIS TOYOTA I DROVE A TOYOTA 4X4 FOR OVER 150,000 MILES. THIS VEHICLE IS THE PRIMARY VEHICLE USED TO TRANSPORT MY WIFE AND CHILDREN. I REALIZE THAT VEHICLE SKID CONTROL IS NOT A FEATURE ON MOST VEHICLES, AND IT'S PURPOSE IS TO MAINTAIN CONTROL IN A SKID SITUATION, BUT AT THIS POINT THE FACT THAT IT IS MALFUNCTIONING IS A LIABILITY RATHER THAN A BENEFIT. *TR

ON JULY 6TH AT APPROXIMATELY 2:00 IN THE AFTERNOON MY SON AND I WENT TO PULL OUR BOAT OUT OF THE WATER WITH OUR 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA.(WE BACKED THE TRAILER INTO THE WATER AND LOADED OUR BOAT ONTO THE TRAILER AS WE ALWAYS DO. WE THEN SECURED THE BOAT TO THE TRAILER AND PROCEEDED TO PULL THE TRUCK AND LOADED TRAILER UP THE HILL ABOUT 30 FEET AND PARKED ON THE BOAT LAUNCH RAMP. I EXITED THE VEHICLE AND LEFT THE SEQUOIA IN FOUR WHEEL DRIVE HIGH, IN PARK, WITH THE PARKING BRAKE ON. ABOUT 5 MINUTES LATER, WE HEARD A REPEATED CLICKING SOUND AND THE BOAT AND TRAILER CAME ROLLING BACK DOWN THE LAUNCH RAMP INTO THE WATER NARROWLY MISSING MY SON AND I. THE ONLY THING THAT STOPPED THE TRUCK AND TRAILER WAS THE FACT THAT THE BOAT TRAILER JACKKNIFED AGAINST THE LEFT REAR BUMPER OF THE TRUCK. THE REGIONAL INSPECTOR, JIM TEELY FINALLY INSPECTED THE SEQUOIA ON JULY 15TH. ACCORDING TO JIM TEELY, WHOM I HAVE SPOKEN WITH ON THE TELEPHONE, THE INSPECTION FOUND THAT THERE WAS NOTHING MECHANICALLY WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE INSPECTION THAT WAS DONE WAS CURSORY AT BEST. UNTIL THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN PHYSICALLY EXAMINED BY TOYOTA I AM NOT COMFORTABLE TOWING MY BOAT AND ESPECIALLY NOT PARKING THE SEQUOIA (TOWING OR NOT) ON AN INCLINE. WE LIVE IN THE MOUNTAINS, AND NOT BEING ABLE TO PARK ON A HILL WILL BE A MAJOR INCONVENIENCE FOR US. TOYOTA HAS STILL NOT DETERMINED WHAT CAUSED THIS ACCIDENT.*TR

MY TRACTION CONTROL, SKID CONTROL, AND ABS WARNING LIGHTS CONTINUED TO LIGHT UP INTERMITTENTLY ON MY 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHILE THE WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON, THE BRAKES WOULD SUDDENLY GRAB, MAKE A TERRIBLE NOISE, THEN BRING THE CAR TO A QUICK AND SUDDEN STOP. I NARROWLY AVOIDED 2 DIFFERENT CAR ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF THE CAR SUDDENLY STOPPING. I TOOK THE CAR TO BOTH A TOYOTA DEALER AND AN INDEPENDENT CAR REPAIR SHOP SPECIALIZING IN TOYOTA CARS. BOTH REPORTED THIS WAS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM AND THAT THEY HAD TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM ON 5 - 6 TOYOTA SEQUOIAS PER MONTH. THE DIAGNOSTIC CODES REPORTED FROM THE CAR'S COMPUTER INCLUDED CO215 (LR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR MALFUNCTION), CO1223 (BRAKE PEDAL STROKE FORCE SENSOR MALFUNCTION), CO1247 (ABS SYSTEM MALFUNCTION), AND CO1310 (SOLENOID CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION). THE REPAIR SHOP REPLACED BOTH THE ABS/SKID CONTROL ECU AND ACTIVE BOOSTER SOLENOID FOR A TOTAL COST OF $2410. IF THIS IS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM, WHY HAS TOYOTA NOT IMPLEMENTED A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. THIS TIME NOTHING WAS DONE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP A TOTAL OF FIVE TIMES AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE.
