Your car's engine control module (ECM) has failed at just over 50,000 miles, causing uncontrolled transmission shifting while you were driving—a potential safety issue. Toyota has acknowledged this is a known problem and extended the warranty to 10 years/150,000 miles, but your vehicle is outside that coverage window. The repair will cost $2,000 or more and requires replacing the engine control module.
