THE HYBRID INVERTER FAILED WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A RED LIGHT. A LOUD CLUNK WAS HEARD AND THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING BUT CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND HAD TO BE PUSHED OUT OF THE ROAD. "CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM" WARNING FLASHED. CAR WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHO CONFIRMED THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY AT 9 YEARS, 117K MILES (WARRANTY IS 8 YEARS, 110K MILES). THE PREVIOUS RECALLS FOR THE HYBRID INVERTER HAD BEEN COMPLETED ~3 YEARS AGO AND SO THE RECALL ALSO WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR. THE QUOTED COST OF THE REPAIR IS ~$11K.
UNCONTROLLABLE ACCELERATION 2010 TOYOTA HIGHLANDER. 3 TIMES ON 2-10-10. *TR
ON PENNSYLVANIA TPKE TOYOTA HIGHLANDER 2010 MODEL BOUGHT A MONTH AGO JUST STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AFTER AN HOUR DRIVE, CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THEY STATED THAT IT HAS A COMPUTER PROBLEM AND THAT WAS REPLACED. THE WAS RETURNED AFTER A WEEK. ON OUR WAY BACK AGAIN AFTER APPROX. AN HOUR DRIVE THE CAR STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. WE ESCAPED 2 MAJOR ACCIDENTS BY GOD'S GRACE. THE CAR IS STILL WITH ROCKLAND TOYOTA. THIS TIME THEY SAID THE FUEL PUMP WAS THE PROBLEM, THEN THEY SAID IT IS LOOSE WIRE ETC. ETC. *TR
