My check ingine light came on. I had noticed the slippery when wet light came on and the vcs light also came on. Since the Catalytic Converter seemed to be the problem. The gentleman at AutoZone diagnosed the car and told me about Catalytic clean. I used that and the lights went off. I believe I was sold a crappy car. The dealership did nothing to replace or look at it. I had not even put 2000 miles on the car since purchased.
UNEXPLAINED ACCELERATION ' ENGINE REVVING ' FRI ' 10/9/20 ' IN STOP &SHOP PARKING LOT APPROXIMATELY 5:00 PM (AFTER VISITING CARDI) ' LADY WITH 2 SMALL CHILDREN - 1-CARRYING, 1-IN HAND WALKING, WANTED TO CROSS IN FRONT OF ME ' I STOPPED AND WAVED HER ON ' CAR WHEN I STOPPED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY STARTED REVVING TO THE MAXIMUM FOR 10-15 SECONDS (ESTIMATE) ' I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND THE ENGINE SLOWED TO NORMAL IDLING. NO FOOT ON GAS PEDAL / NO CARPET 'INTRUSION' TO INTERFERING WITH GAS PEDAL ' WHICH I CONVEYED TO BOCH TOYOTA SERVICE REP AND SERVICE DIRECTOR AND SHOWED THE DRIVER'S SIDE SET UP TOYOTA BOCH REPORTED AND COORDINATED ANALYSIS WITH TOYOTA NATIONAL ' CASE ' TAS # 202880278 ' I DID A VERBAL REPORT THAT BOCH TOYOTA RECORDED ON THEIR FORM FOR THIS TO JEAN A ' DESCRIBING THE ABOVE IN DETAIL BOCH AND NATIONAL DID A JOINT ANALYSIS INCLUDING SIMULTANEOUS VIDEO ANALYSIS ' CONCLUDED THAT ' PEDAL HAD 'MISAPPLICATION' ' THIS IS WRONG ' AND I REPEATED TO BOCH PEOPLE (2) WHAT HAPPENED AS WE 3 STOOD LOOKING INTO THE DRIVER'S SIDE
I HAVE BEEN HAVING A DANGEROUS FUEL PUMP ISSUE FOR SOME TIME. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE THE SAME ISSUE THAT THEY HAVE A FUEL PUMP ISSUE FOR 2018 & 2019 TOYOTAS! I BELIEVE TOYOTA HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS FOR SOME TIME. MY 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA HAS BEEN BACKFIRING, STALLING OUT, & SHUTTING OFF WHEN I GET INTO HEAVY OR STANDSTILL TRAFFIC, WHICH IS VERY DANGEROUS. IT STALLED OUT & SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF ROBBINS STREET (3 LANE 1 WAY STREET) NEAR THE TACONY PALMYRA BRIDGE DUE TO A BRIDGE OPENING THAT BACKED UP TRAFFIC FOR OVER 45 MINUTES 1 DAY ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK. WHEN THE BRIDGE FINALLY OPENED, I WAS ALMOST HIT SEVERAL TIMES. LUCKILY A MECHANIC CAME BY & HE WAS ABLE TO GET IT STARTED AGAIN. I DID TAKE IT TO AAA SERVICE CENTER IN MT LAUREL NJ & THEY DID DIAGNOSED THAT IT IS A FUEL PUMP ISSUE THAT WILL COST $2,273.40. AGAIN I BELIEVE TOYOTA HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS FOR SOME TIME SIMILAR TO THE BRAKE RECALL THAT THEY HAD SOME TIME AGO. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE. THIS ISSUE STILL CONTINUES...
IM CAR SOMETIMES TRY'S TO STALL OUT WHILE IM DRIVING OR SITTING AT A STOP LIGHT. IT SOUNDS LIKE IT IS BEING CHOKED OUT OR ISN'T GETTING ENOUGH FUEL. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING ON AND OFF FOR A NUMBER OF YEAR'S AND THE DEALER DOES NOT KNOW WHY.
MY 2010 TOYOTA KEPT STALLING OUT, MOSTLY WHEN IT WAS IN IDLE MODE. IF I WAS DRIVING A SLOWER SPEED, IT WOULD SOMETIMES LOSE POWER AND WHEN I PUSHED ON THE GAS PEDAL, THERE WAS NOTHING THERE...LIKE AIR. IT WOULD STALL OUT IF I WAS SITTING IN TRAFFIC OVER MINUTES. I HAD TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND KEEP MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL TO KEEP IT IDLED UP. INITIALLY I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE IGNITION COILS, WHICH I HAD REPLACED. THEN THE SPARK PLUGS WERE REPLACED. THEN THE AIR MASS SENSOR. AND MY BATTERY. ALSO THE REPAIR SHOP DID SOME ADJUSTMENT TO THE THROTTLE. NONE OFF THAT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE; IT WAS STILL STALLING OUT JUST OUT OF THE BLUE. THE LAST REPAIR SHOP SAID THEY ONLY SAW ONE CODE IN THE COMPUTER AND IT WAS GIVING THEM A READING WHERE THE FUEL PUMP HAD SOMETHING LIKE A "VAPOR LOCK" AND WAS NOT SENDING OUT FUEL LIKE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO. THIS CAR HAS BEEN STALLING OUT ON US SINCE APRIL 2019 AND HAS HAD REPLACEMENT PARTS THAT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. MY FUEL PUMP WAS FINALLY REPLACED ON FEBRUARY 21,2020 AND SO FAR IT HAS NOT STALLED OUT AT ALL, EVEN WHEN IT'S IN IDLE MODE. COST TO REPAIR IT WAS $901.67.
OUR 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA XLE WITH 74,000 MILES EXPERIENCED COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO A DEFECTIVE FUEL PUMP. WE OWN AND OPERATE THIS CAR AT ABOUT 1,000 FEET (OMAHA NEBRASKA). MY DAUGHTER DROVE THIS CAR NORTH WEST TOWARDS THE EISENHOWER EDWIN C. JOHNSON MEMORIAL TUNNEL IN COLORADO AND THE ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. VERY LITTLE WARNING AS THE ENGINE SHUTTERED AND CAME TO A COMPLETE AND UNEXPECTED STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF NORTHBOUND TRAFFIC ON HIGHWAY 70. MY DAUGHTER ALMOST GOT HIT BY A COUPLE OF CARS AS SHE REATTEMPTED THE CLIMB TOWARDS THE EISENHOWER EDWIN C. JOHNSON MEMORIAL TUNNEL. BUT TO NO AVAIL. SHE TOOK THIS CAR TO STEVENSON AUTO IN LAKEWOOD COLORADO FOR DIAGNOSIS, BUT THEY COULDN'T RECREATE THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY ARE ALLOWED TO DRIVE ONLY 20 MILES OR SO AND THE CAR WAS TOWED 27 MILES FROM HIGHWAY 70 TO THEIR DEALERSHIP (THE CLOSEST TOYOTA DEALER). THEY TOLD MY DAUGHTER TO GO BACK HOME TO OMAHA NEBRASKA BECAUSE THERE AREN'T ANY FUEL PUMP PROBLEMS AT LOW ALTITUDE. BTW, THE TOYOTA TSB IS ENTITLED "EXTENDED CRANK AT ALTITUDE".
THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY TURNED OFF WHILE I WAS MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN. I WAS ABLE TO START THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY IN NEUTRAL. THIS HAS OCCURRED 4 MORE TIMES IN SIMILAR CIRCUMSTANCES. HOWEVER, LAST NIGHT, WHILE TURNING THE CAR WHEEL TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT RAPIDLY TO AVOID AN OBJECT ON THE STREET, THE CAR LOST POWER. ALL THE WARNING AND CONTROL LIGHTS IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WERE TURNED ON FOR 3 TO 4 SECONDS BUT THE CAR STARTED ON ITS OWN. THAT IS, I DID NOT HAVE TO TURN THE IGNITION KEY ON AS IN PREVIOUS 4 OCCASIONS. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER FOR TOMORROW MORNING.
THE GAS PEDAL SUCK TO THE FLOOR WHEN ACCELERATING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON. I PULLED OFF ROAD, PUT CAR IN NEUTRAL AND SHUT MOTOR OFF. GAS PEDAL WAS STILL STUCK TO FLOOR. TRIED PULLING PEDAL UP TO NO AVAIL. TURNED IGNITION TO THE ON POSITION AND PEDAL STILL STUCK. AFTER STOMPING IT SEVERAL TIMES GAS PEDAL UNSTUCK. YOU COULD HERE SOMETHING UNDERNEATH THE HOOD RELEASE IT. DEFINITELY NOT A FLOOR MAT PROBLEM!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE REAR FUEL LINE WAS FRACTURED AND LEAKING FUEL. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED BECAUSE THE FUEL LINE WAS MANUFACTURED WITH PLASTIC. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FUEL LINE WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000.
2010 TOYOTA COROLLA FIRST EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS JUNE 2010 (CAR PURCHASED MARCH 2010) ON A WARM DAY I.E. 90 DEGREES THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN, COASTS TO A STOP. STILL ABLE TO STEER TO GET OFF THE ROAD. WAIT 10 TO 15 MINUTES AND CAR WILL RESTART. THE FIRST TIME THIS OCCURRED MY SON WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE, TOTALLY SHOCKED HIM. THE NEXT TIME I WAS DRIVING ON AN INTERSTATE THROUGH A CONGESTED MOUNTAIN PASS, WAS FORTUNATE THAT NO SEMI TRUCKS WERE DIRECTLY BEHIND ME AND THAT THERE WAS A SHOULDER ON THIS STRETCH. TOOK INTO DEALER AFTER SAME EXPERIENCE ON 2 TRIPS. THEY WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE A PROBLEM. JUNE 2011 DROVE 200 MILES ON THE ROAD, THEN DROVE IN TOWN SAME DAY WITH MULTIPLE STOPS. DRIVING AT APPROX. 35 MPH, CAR JERKED, STEPPED ON GAS WITH NO RESPONSE. ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP AT A RED LIGHT. WITH TRAFFIC BACKING UP BEHIND US AND CAR WOULD NOT RESTART, DRIVER BEHIND US AND MY OCTOGENARIAN FATHER PUSHED THE CAR AROUND THE CORNER TO A CHURCH PARKING LOT. CALLED TRIPLE AAA FOR A TOW, AFTER WAITING A HALF HOUR TRIED TO START CAR. IT STARTED. CALLED TRIPLE AAA TO CANCEL TOW. DURING THE NEXT 1 TO 2 MILES THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN 3 MORE TIMES AND EACH TIME WAS ABLE TO COAST OUT OF THE ROADWAY. FINALLY HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER. THEY EXAMINED VEHICLE NEXT MORNING AND I WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL PUMP ON 2010 AND 2011 TOYOTA COROLLAS IN HEAT AND AT ALTITUDE. ENGINEERS ARE WORKING ON A NEW FUEL PUMP. TOYOTA DOES NOT KNOW WHEN A NEW PUMP WILL BE AVAILABLE. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AS YOU DO NOT KNOW WHEN THE ENGINE WILL SHUT DOWN. WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THE VEHICLE IS SAFE TO DRIVE. JUST PUT ON FLASHERS AND COAST TO SIDE OF THE ROAD. OF COURSE THERE MAY NOT BE A PLACE TO PULL OVER AND WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU ARE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC ON THE FREEWAY WITH MANY VEHICLES GOING 70 MPH. TOYOTA KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM AND THEY ARE TELLING CUSTOMERS TO CONTINUE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THIS DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. A FEW DAYS LATER, THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN SO THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE FUEL LINE AND WIRES UNDER THE HOOD WERE CHEWED AWAY. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN.
I HAVE A 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA THAT IS PART OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL REINFORCEMENT BAR RECALL/INSTALLATION. I HAVE NOTICED ANOTHER PROBLEM THAT APPEARS TO ALSO INVOLVE THE ACCELERATOR. THIS VEHICLE HAS A 5 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. THE PROBLEM OCCURS IN BOTH 3RD AND 4TH GEAR. THIS PROBLEM IS NOT CONSISTENT MEANING IT IS NOT ALWAYS NOTICED EVERY TIME I DRIVE, I WOULD MAINTAIN THAT IT OCCURS AT LEAST 50% OF THE TIME HOWEVER. PROBLEM: I ATTEMPT TO MAINTAIN A CONSTANT SPEED FOR INSTANCE IN 3RD GEAR AT 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE FEELS AS IF IT WANTS TO SPEED UP, I THEN REMOVE SOME PRESSURE FROM THE ACCELERATOR, THE VEHICLE THEN SLOW BY JERKING, I THEN ATTEMPT TO ACCELERATE AND THE VEHICLE JERKS AGAIN, BOTTOM LINE IS I CAN NOT MAINTAIN A CONSTANT SPEED. THE ROAD CONDITIONS DO NOT MATTER, FLAT, HILL, BUMPY, SMOOTH, WET DRY, 30 MPH, 31 MPH, 32, MPH ETC. I CANNOT MAINTAIN A CONSTANT SPEED IN 3RD AND 4TH GEAR. I AM NOT SURE OF AN APPROXIMATE DATE, IT HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN AUGUST OF 2009. I WILL JUST ENTER A RANDOM DATE BELOW. *TR

FOR ENTIRE TIME OWNED - THERE IS A GAP OF SECONDS BETWEEN PRESSING GAS PEDAL AND ACTUAL ACCELERATION. WHEN I PRESS GAS PEDAL THERE IS A HESITATION LEADING ME TO PRESS HARDER. THEN OF COURSE THE CAR HAS A SUDDEN SPRINT IN ACCELERATION. THIS IS NOT SAFE. I HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR 5.5 MONTHS SO I AM GETTING BETTER AT WAITING INSTEAD OF PRESSING HARDER. BUT I FEEL THIS IS DEFINITELY A DEFECT. I INQUIRED OVER PHONE WITH SERVICE MANAGER WHERE I PURCHASED - EXPLANATION: I AM NOT USE TO A 4 CYLINDER, WHICH I BELIEVED BECAUSE I HAVE NEVER DRIVEN A 4 CYLINDER.
