AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:PASSENGER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2010-2016 4Runner, 2003-2006 Tundra, 2003-2013 Corolla, 2009-2010 Corolla Matrix, 2004-2005 RAV4, 2002-2007 Sequoia, 2011-2013 Sienna, 2008-2012 Scion xB, 2008-2009 Lexus IS-F, 2007-2012 Yaris and Lexus ES350, 2010-2017 Lexus GX460, 2002-2010 Lexus SC430, 2006-2012 Lexus IS250 and IS350 and 2010-2015 Lexus IS250C and IS350C vehicles. These vehicles had their driver or passenger frontal air bag inflators previously replaced under a prior recall using inflators of the same design. The inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.

Fix: Toyota will notify owners. Depending on the vehicle model, dealers will replace the front driver inflator, front passenger airbag inflator, the airbag assembly, or the front passenger airbag sub-assembly and inflator. The recall began November 20, 2019. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371 or Lexus customer service at 1-800-255-3987. Toyota's numbers for this recall are J0A, J0B, and J0C. Lexus' numbers for this recall are JLI, JLJ, and JLK.

AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:PASSENGER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2003-2008 Corolla, 2005-2008 Corolla Matrix, and Pontiac Vibe vehicles equipped with a front passenger air bag assembly replaced under a prior recall. The air bag may not unfold as designed during inflation under high temperature conditions, possibly resulting in the air bag not inflating properly.

Fix: Toyota will notify their owners. Pontiac Vibe owners will be notified by GM. Dealers will replace the front passenger air bag assembly or sub-assembly, free of charge. Toyota owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371. Toyota's numbers for this recall are K1Q and K0Q. Pontiac owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-762-2737. GM's number for this recall is N192273760.

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2008-2010 Lexus SC vehicles manufactured August 3, 2007, to July 30, 2010, 2008 Toyota Corolla vehicles manufactured May 25, 2007, to December 21, 2007, 2008 Toyota Corolla Matrix vehicles manufactured June 1, 2007, to December 18, 2007, and 2008 Pontiac Vibe vehicles manufactured June 1, 2007, to January 2, 2008. This is to address a safety defect in the passenger side frontal air bag inflator which may produce excessive internal pressure causing the inflator to rupture upon deployment of the air bag. This recall addresses both the passenger side frontal air bags that were originally installed in the vehicles, as well as replacement air bags that may have been installed as replacement service parts. A replacement air bag may have been installed, as one example, if a vehicle had been in a crash necessitating the replacement of the passenger side frontal air bag.

Fix: The recall began on March 25, 2016 for Toyota and Lexus vehicle owners. The recall began on June 23, 2016 for GM owners. The respective dealers will either replace the front passenger air bag inflator or the entire front passenger air bag assembly depending on the model. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331, or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. This recall expands recall 15V-285.

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2008-2010 Lexus SC vehicles manufactured August 3, 2007, to July 30, 2010, 2008 Toyota Corolla vehicles manufactured June 1, 2007, to December 21, 2007, 2008 Toyota Corolla Matrix vehicles manufactured June 1, 2007, to December 18, 2007, and 2008 Pontiac Vibe vehicles manufactured June 1, 2007, to January 2, 2008 that were originally sold, or ever registered, in Florida, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, Saipan, American Samoa, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. The affected vehicles have a passenger side frontal air bag that may be susceptible to moisture intrusion which, over time, could cause the inflator to rupture upon its deployment.

Fix: The recall began on March 25, 2016 for Toyota and Lexus vehicle owners. The recall began on June 8, 2016 for GM owners. The respective dealers will either replace the front passenger air bag inflator or the entire front passenger air bag assembly depending on the model. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331, or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. This recall expands recall 15V-286.

(MY VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET WHEN A PERSON DRIVING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION MADE A LEFT TURN IN FRONT OF ME AND TOTALED MY VEHICLE. I NO LONGER HAVE THE CAR, BUT I HAVE A PHOTO OF THE DEFECTIVE AIRBAG.)

I HAD MY CAR CHECKED BECAUSE A LIGHT CAME ON ON MY DASH ON 12/6/17 SO I HAD IT CHECKED AND IT ENDED UP BEING MY TIRE PRESSURE WAS LOW, BUT THE MONITOR THEY HOOK UP INDICATED THAT MY PASSENGER AIRBAG WAS AFFECTED, SO I TOOK IT INTO TOYOTA AND THEY LOOKED AT ME LIKE I WAS DUMB AND JUST TOLD ME THAT THEY PUT AIR IN MY TIRES AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. SO ON 12/12/17 MY MAINTENANCE REQUIRED LIGHT CAME ON AND I HAD O'REILYS CHECK WITH THERE MONITOR AND AGAIN IT RED FLAGGED THE PASSENGER AIRBAG, I KNEW IT WAS TIME FOR AN OIL CHANGE SO I FIGURED THAT'S WHY MY MAINTENANCE REQUIRED LIGHT WAS ON BUT WHAT CONCERNS ME IS THE AIRBAG. ACCORDING TO MY NOTES, I HAD MY AIRBAGS SUPPOSEDLY REPLACE IN JULY OF 2016 AND I AM NOT SURE IF A LIGHT WOULD COME ON INDICATING SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE AIRBAGS BUT I NEED TO FIND OUT IF AFTER A 1 1/2 YEARS WHY I WOULD HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY AIRBAG???? COULD THIS BE RELATED TO THE RECALL AND HOW DO I FIND OUT (OTHER THAN GOING IN TO TOYOTA) THAT THEY ACTUALLY REPLACED THE RECALLED AIRBAG???) THEY TELL ME THEY DID BUT DOESN'T MY VIN NUMBER HAVE TO BE KEPT TRACK OF SOMEWHERE BESIDES THE SPECIFIC DEALER THAT I WENT TO??? THEY TREATED ME LIKE CRAP AND TOLD ME IT WAS AN $89 DIAGNOSTIC FEE AND IF IT WAS AN AIRBAG WOULD COST BETWEEN $500-$700 DOLLARS. I NEED TO KNOW MORE INFORMATION ON THE PREVIOUS AIRBAG RECALL AS I AM BEGINNING TO WONDER IF IT WAS NEVER FIXED BECAUSE I HAVE NEVER HAD TO HAVE MY CAR CHECKED FOR LIGHTS COMING ON SO I FEEL THAT I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 1 1/2 YEARS WITH FAULTY AIRBAGS.

I WENT TO MELODY TOYOTA IN SAN BRUNO, CA (SUMMER 2016) TO HAVE AIRBAG RECALL TAKEN CARE OF. THEY TOLD ME THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PART AND THEY WOULD CALL ME FOR AN APPOINTMENT WHEN IT CAME IN. AFTER A MONTH WITH NO WORD FROM THEM I STOPPED BY AGAIN. THEY TOLD ME I DIDN'T NEED TO STOP BY BECAUSE THEY WOULD CALL ME WHEN THE PART CAME IN. THAT WAS OVER A YEAR AGO AND THEY STILL HAVEN'T CALLED! I GOT A REMINDER ABOUT THE RECALL SUMMER 2017 AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT AT ONE TOYOTA OF OAKLAND FOR 10AM 7/18/17. THEY TOLD ME CAR WOULD BE READY BY 2:30. WHEN 4:00 CAME AND I HAD NO WORD I ASKED. AT AROUND 4:30 I WAS TOLD THEY HADN'T STARTED YET AND THEY ASKED ME IF I WANTED TO MAKE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT FOR ANOTHER DAY. I WALKED OUT TOTALLY DISGUSTED. OBVIOUSLY THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS HAVE PUT THIS AIRBAG RECALL AT THE BOTTOM OF THEIR PRIORITY LIST. I WILL TRY FINDING A THIRD DEALERSHIP TODAY AND HOPE TO BE DONE WITH THIS SOON.

TAKATA RECALL. I RECEIVED A NOTICE IN MARCH 2016 ABOUT THE RECALL. THE NOTICE DESCRIBED THE ISSUE WITH THE INFLATOR. I WAS ASKED TO IMMEDIATELY TAKE MY CAR TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT FIXED. THE NOTICE SAID IT WAS URGENT . IT SPECIFIED THAT I SHOULD STOP USING THE PASSENGER SEAT. IT EVEN SAID THAT IF I FELT UNCOMFORTABLE DRIVING THE CAR, THEY WOULD PICK UP THE CAR FOR ME. I SENT TO THE TOYOTA DEALER THE VERY NEXT DAY. THEY CHECKED AND VERIFIED MY CAR IS SUBJECT TO THE RECALL, BUT THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD BE A FEW WEEKS BEFORE THE PART WOULD ARRIVE. IT HAS BEEN ALMOST 11 MONTHS SINCE THE NOTICE WAS SENT. THE PEOPLE AT THE DEALER DON'T EVEN KNOW WHEN THE PART WILL ARRIVE. IT IS UNREALISTIC THAT OWNERS ARE EXPECTED TO NOT BE ABLE TO FULLY USE THEIR VEHICLES WITHOUT RECEIVING SOME SORT OF COMPENSATION. AFTER DROPPING MY CAR OFF AT THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THIS RESOLVED, I RECEIVED A PHONE CALL NOTIFYING ME THAT THEY COULD NOT "FIX" THE ISSUE RELATED TO THIS RECALL. I WAS INFORMED THAT AS TOYOTA HAS LIMITED THE NUMBER OF "REMEDY KITS" TO 6 PER DEALERSHIP, PER WEEK, I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT APPROXIMATELY 3 MONTHS (OR MORE) BEFORE PARTS WOULD BE AVAILABLE TO "FIX" MY VEHICLE. (NEVER MIND THE FACT THAT THE DEALERSHIP SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS WHEN THE APPOINTMENT WAS MADE AND WASTED MY TIME, BUT THAT'S ANOTHER ISSUE). THE ORIGINAL RECALL ANNOUNCEMENT I RECEIVED FROM TOYOTA STATED "UNTIL THE REMEDY BECOMES AVAILABLE IN YOUR LOCATION, WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO NOT OPERATE THE VEHICLE WITH AN OCCUPANT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT". SO, I AM TO BE DEPRIVED OF USING THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OF MY VEHICLE FOR AN ADDITIONAL 3 MONTHS, OR MORE (AFTER HAVING RECEIVING THE REMEDY NOTICE), BECAUSE TOYOTA CHOOSES TO LIMIT THE NUMBER OF PARTS AVAILABLE TO LOCAL DEALERS TO REMEDY THIS ISSUE. TAKATA RECALL: I CONTACTED AUTO NATION TOYOTA IN CENTENNIAL, CO AT LEAST 4 WEEKS AGO TO GET THE "URGENT RECALL" REPAIRED. MY INITIAL CALL I WAS TRANSFERRED MULTIPLE TIMES AND FINALLY SENT TO A VOICEMAIL. AFTER A WEEK, MY CALL WAS NOT RETURNED, SO I AGAIN CALLED AND AFTER 15 MINUTES ON THE PHONE (THEY HAD TO FIND OUT WHAT THE RECALL WAS AND IF THEY HAD PARTS), I WAS TOLD THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS AND THEY WOULD ORDER THEM AND CALL ME WHEN THEY ARRIVED. ANOTHER WEEK PASSED AND I STILL HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED BY AUTONATION. I AGAIN CALLED AUTOMATION AND WAS AGAIN PUT ON HOLD FOR ABOUT 15 MIN BECAUSE THEY HAD NO INFORMATION THAT I HAD CALLED THE PREVIOUS TWO WEEKS. I WAS FINALLY TOLD AGAIN THAT THEY FOUND MY INFORMATION AND MY PARTS WERE ON ORDER AND I WOULD BE CONTACTED WHEN THEY ARRIVED. ANOTHER WEEK PASSED SO I MADE MY FOURTH AND FINAL CALL. I WAS EVENTUALLY TRANSFERRED TO A VOICEMAIL AND I LEFT ANOTHER MESSAGE WITH ALL OF MY INFORMATION (VIN, NAME AND THAT I HAD CALLED 3 PREVIOUS TIMES ALREADY). THIS FINAL MESSAGE WAS ON FRIDAY, APRIL 22, 2016. AS OF TODAY, THURSDAY, APR. 28, 2016, I HAVE YET TO RECEIVE A CALL FROM AUTO NATION TO REPAIR MY URGENT RECALL. THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. ON APRIL 22, AFTER LEAVING THE FINAL MESSAGE WITH AUTONATION, I CONTACTED TWO OTHER TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS IN THE AREA AND BOTH AND THE PARTS AND WERE ABLE TO GET ME IN WITH JUST A FEW DAYS. IF AUTOMATION COULD NOT DO THE REPAIRS, THEY SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME THAT INITIALLY, INSTEAD THEY LEAD ME TO BELIEVE THEY WOULD DO IT, ALL THE WHILE WE ARE DRIVING AN UNSAFE CAR AND FOUR WEEKS PASSED BY. I OWN A 2008 TOYOTA MATRIX WHICH IS IN THE SAME GENERATION AS THE 2005-2007 TOYOTA MATRIX MODELS. THE AIRBAG USED IN THE 2008 MATRIX IS IDENTICAL TO THAT WHICH IS USED IN THE 2005-2007 TOYOTA MATRIX MODELS. HOWEVER, THE 2008 TOYOTA MATRIX AIRBAG WAS NOT RECALLED (UNLIKE THE 05-07 MODELS) EVEN THOUGH IT HAS THE SAME AIRBAG PART NUMBER AS THE RECALLED MODELS. I BELIEVE THAT TOYOTA MAY HAVE OVERLOOKED THE 08 MATRIX AS IT OCCURRED DURING A LIMITED PRODUCTION RUN (THERE WERE VERY FEW 08 MATRIXES PRODUCED; THEY BEGAN SELLING THE 09 IN EARLY 08). THE GM OF THE DEALERSHIP & GM OF THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR INSPECTION & TO HAVE A TOYOTA CORP. REP. LOOK AT THE CAR TO DETERMINE WHY THE FRONT AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE DEALERSHIP ATTEMPTED TO TELL US THAT THE AIRBAGS SHOULD ONLY DEPLOY DURING A FRONT IMPACT, BUT THE CAR DID IN FACT SUSTAIN HEAVY DAMAGES DO TO THE IMPACT BUT THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE IMPACT WAS SO GREAT THAT THE STEEL STABILIZER BAR WAS COMPLETELY RIPPED OFF. THAT ALONE SHOULD HAVE TRIGGERED THE AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY. MY DAUGHTER HAD A FRONTAL COLLISION WHILE DRIVING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH. OUR 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA S STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE ON ITS FRONT LEFT FENDER. OUR 2008 COROLLA SUSTAINED MAJOR FRONTAL DAMAGES, INCLUDING THE DISINTEGRATION OF THE BUMPER, DAMAGE TO THE HOOD, BOTH FENDERS, RADIATOR, ETC. THE FRONT STABILIZER BAR WAS RIPPED OFF THE CHASSIS. DURING THE IMPACT, THE SEAT BELTS LOCKED, HOWEVER, THE FRONT AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED!! THE CAR WAS TAKEN BACK TO EAST COAST TOYOTA, RT. 17, WOOD-RIDGE, NJ WHERE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED ON FEB. 22, 2011 AS A "CERTIFIED USED VEHICLE." WE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE FAULTY AIR BAGS & THAT THEY DID NOT DEPLOY IN A FRONTAL CRASH OF 30 MPH. THE GM OF THE DEALERSHIP & GM OF THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR INSPECTION & TO HAVE A TOYOTA CORP. REP. LOOK AT THE CAR TO DETERMINE WHY THE FRONT AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE DEALERSHIP ATTEMPTED TO TELL US THAT THE AIRBAGS SHOULD ONLY DEPLOY DURING A FRONT IMPACT, BUT THE CAR DID IN FACT SUSTAIN HEAVY DAMAGES DO TO THE IMPACT BUT THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE IMPACT WAS SO GREAT THAT THE STEEL STABILIZER BAR WAS COMPLETELY RIPPED OFF. THAT ALONE SHOULD HAVE TRIGGERED THE AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY NOT DRIVABLE DUE TO THE NUMEROUS DAMAGE SUSTAINED TO THE FRONT END, MOTOR, RADIATOR & OTHER PARTS. WE ARE WAITING TO HEAR FROM THE DEALER, MY INSURANCE ADJUSTER & TOYOTA TO FIND OUT WHY THIS IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURE DID NOT WORK AS IT WAS DESIGNED TO. *TR

WHILE DRIVING MY 2008 TOYOTA COROLLA LE AT 55 MPH, I ENCOUNTERED A DEER AND WAS INVOLVED IN A COLLISION WITH THE ANIMAL, ON SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 19TH, 2011. THE COLLISION TOTALED THE VEHICLE, RESULTING IN NEARLY 11K DOLLARS IN DAMAGE. THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG DURING THE ACCIDENT BECAME DISLODGED FROM THE STEERING WHEEL, AND FELL OUT INTO MY LAP. THE TWO TORQUE SCREWS USED TO HOLD IT IN THE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY FAILED TO FUNCTION PROPERLY. I REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO TOYOTA'S COMPLAINT DEPARTMENT AND FILED A FORMAL GRIEVANCE. A FACTORY REPRESENTATIVE CAME OUT TO SEE THE VEHICLE AND INSPECT THE SCREWS, AND SAID THAT THEY ARE NOT AT FAULT AND THAT THE PROBLEM "HAD TO BE MY FAULT" AFTER COMPARING MY VEHICLE TO OTHER TOYOTA COROLLA VEHICLES, STATING THAT I OR SOMEONE ELSE "HAD TO OF REMOVED THE AIRBAG AT SOME TIME DURING THE VEHICLE'S LIFE". I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED IN JANUARY, 2011 FROM A REPUTABLE DEALER AND RECEIVED A VEHICLE HISTORY. AT NO TIME WAS THE AIRBAG REPORTED TO HAVE BEEN DEPLOYED OR SERVICED, AND THE SCREWS REQUIRE A SPECIALIZED TORQUE SCREWDRIVER TO REMOVE. AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT, I HAD OWNED THE VEHICLE ONLY A MONTH, AND HAD NOT DRIVEN IT MORE THAN THREE TIMES, AS I OWN ANOTHER PRIMARY VEHICLE. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY DEFECT, AND I HAVE SEVERAL WITNESS STATEMENTS SHOWING THAT THE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY WAS NOT PROPERLY SECURED. HAD THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED WHILE IN MY LAP, I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED. THE ENTIRE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY, CARRIAGE, CHARGE, AND WIRES CAME OUT OF THE STEERING WHEEL ITSELF. I WAS DECELERATING WITH MY RIGHT FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT. THERE WAS A CAR AHEAD OF ME AT THE LIGHT, AND AS I PULLED UP BEHIND IT, I PUT MY RIGHT FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. WHEN I HIT BRAKES, I FOUND THAT THE CAR WAS NOT STOPPING AND THAT THE CAR WAS ACCELERATING. I PUT BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE, AND PULLED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE BUT THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE UNTIL IT ENDED UP PUSHING ON THE CAR AHEAD OF ME. I DID EVERYTHING I COULD THINK OF TO STOP THE CAR, BUT WAS UNABLE TO DO SO UNTIL I TURNED THE KEY OFF. AS FAR AS I KNOW, THERE WERE NO INJURIES, AIR BAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY, NO TICKETS WERE ISSUED AND THE BUMPERS OF BOTH CARS WERE NOT DENTED, BUT HAD VERY DEEP SCRAPES ON THEM. THE MAT WAS HOOKED AT THE TIME AND WAS NOT INVOLVED AND I DIDN'T TOUCH THE GAS. I HAD MY HUSBAND FOLLOW ME TO MY DEALERSHIP, WHERE I ASKED THEM TO INSPECT THE CAR AND LET ME KNOW IF IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. THEY REFUSED TO INSPECT IT AND REFERRED ME TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY. I DID THAT, BUT I ALSO TALKED TO TOYOTA'S SERVICE LINE IN CALIFORNIA AND THEY SAID THE BEST THEY COULD DO WAS ARRANGE FOR AN INSPECTION WITH RESULTS IN APPX 74 DAYS. MY INSURANCE COMPANY HAD AN INDEPENDENT INSPECTION, BUT ALL HE TOLD ME WAS THAT MY ACCELERATOR WAS NOT "CABLE". THE TOYOTA COMPANY TOLD ME I COULD GO AHEAD AND HAVE THE BODY WORK DONE AS LONG AS THE REPAIRS DID NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE BRAKE OR THE IGNITION. POLICE WERE CALLED AT THE SCENE, BUT DID NOT MEET WITH US. *TR
