While driving at 30 mph, your 4Runner's check engine light came on and the transmission unexpectedly shifted into neutral, preventing acceleration. The dashboard also failed to show which gear the transmission was actually in. A mechanic diagnosed a faulty neutral safety switch that was preventing the transmission from changing gears properly. The switch will need to be replaced to restore normal transmission operation.
