There's a known recall for this issue that involves replacing the short block, but Subaru stopped performing this repair three years ago. I purchased my 2014 Subaru Forester Limited in May of 2022, already having a high mileage of about 149,800 miles, I was leaning on its reliability and pushing it beyond 200,000 miles. I have encountered frequent oil consumption and assumed that if commuting up and down from the foothills to the valley, it would be natural that it would consume oil. I had to top off a quart of oil every 2000-3000 miles, and once I moved down to flatter land, I noticed the Subaru consumed less oil. Toward the end of December 2023, the Check Engine Light as well as other lights lit up and by then, I had about 170000 miles. I went through every measure to do my own repairs and still couldn't get the check engine light removed and had done a leak-down test on the third cylinder, which doing an engine rebuild has been recommended. I'm currently just over 176200 miles and this is my daily commuter. I still owe money on the Subaru and would love to keep this longer, but the engine problem hasn't been reassuring.

I've been having issues over the past 4 years with my vehicle overconsuming oil. I took it into the dealer 2 years ago and they performed a consumption test. They said everything fell within the normal range Subaru has established. I have to have an extra thing of oil in my vehicle at all times in case it gets low. Yesterday, my vehicle gave me all sorts of warning lights. I took it in today and am having to replace the CVT Valve Body. It appears this is an issue with Subaru's from 2014. I've spent a lot of money over the past few years trying to figure out why my vehicle is acting up. I only have 67,000 miles on it after owning it for 11 years.

My 2014 Subaru Forester constantly burning oil. I have taken my car to Tyson’s Subaru multiple times when within warranty, they conducted multiple consumption test, admitted it burns oil but not enough to fix under warranty. I have my car in and out of the shop since 70-80k and now burning more oil at 140k. I sent this complaint to Subaru of America: MY 2014 HAS BEEN BURNING OIL SINCE 70,000/80,000. I HAVE HAD TWO PCV VALVES REPLACED AND NUMEROUS OIL CHANGES AT STOHLMAN SUBARU OF TYSONS, VIRGINIA. I NOW HAVE 106K AND THE FORESTER IS STILL BURNING OIL. I CAN’T GO PASS 3K MILES WITHOUT THE OIL BEING LOW. AM I STILL UNDER THE WARRANTY FOR THIS ISSUE? WHY DIDN’T STOHLMAN FIXED THE ISSUE WHEN IT WAS ORIGINALLY FOUND AT 70 OR 80K? THEY SAID IT WAS THE PCV VALVE TWICE WITHIN ONE YEAR AND I PAID TO REPLACE THE PCV VALVE TWICE. NOW MY CAR IS STILL BURNING OIL AND NOT FIXED AND I AM INN THE SHOP AGAIN! What can I do other than complaining! Have others complained about the same thing?

The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming a quart of engine oil every 1,000 miles. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the short block needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to TSB Number: 02-157-14R (Engine and Engine Cooling). The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.

Check engine light came on at 92,355 odometer miles. Dealer diagnosis was code P0171, airflow sensor intermittent failure causing rich fuel and affecting mileage. Failure of the air fuel sensor was due to oil leakage from the camshaft carrier covers located above the exhaust manifold where the A/F sensor is located. This could have resulted in a fire. The repair necessitated engine removal to access the camshaft carrier covers and resealing the area along with replacing the A/F sensor. The cost was nearly $4k which was not covered under warranty due to the Forester is 9 years old.

The engine stalled/locked and clipped an 18 wheeler trying to get to the shoulder of I-294. I have been taking the 2014 Subaru to Countryside Subaru since April 14, 2021 with issues of lights coming on on the dashboard. It caused a serious accident. The car was totaled by the insurance company. Subaru had me call Subaru Advocacy who had just agreed to pay $3,500 towards a new engine, with me paying $1,500 because it was out of warranty, even though the issue started when the car was under warranty over a year ago. Lights were constantly coming on every 4 to 6 weeks. A service advisor, told us the car was safe to drive. It wasn't. The same day service advisor ordered the parts (June 6, 2022) is the same day the accident happen. I thank God my daughter is still among the living. This should not have happen. LIVES ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN MONEY.

I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT AND MY ENGINE TURNED OFF. LATER IN THE DAY WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY GOING UPHILL, MY CAR LUNGED FORWARD AS I WAS DRIVING. THE NEXT DAY WHEN I STARTED MY CAR, ALL MY WARNING SENSOR LIGHTS WENT ON. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, IT SEEMS THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH MY TRANSMISSION THAT PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED. SUBARU EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FROM 60,000 MILES TO 100,000 KNOWING THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE. UNFORTUNATELY, MY CAR IS AT 107,000 MILES AND SUBARU WON'T COVER IT. INSTEAD OF EXTENDING THE WARRANTY, THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL ON THIS TRANSMISSION BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION ISSUE IS A SAFETY HAZARD. I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH NOT TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT, BUT OTHER PEOPLE MIGHT NOT HAVE THE SAME LUCK. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE AND HAVE SUBARU RECALL THESE TRANSMISSIONS. THANK YOU.

I HAVE HAD A COUPLE OF OIL CONSUMPTION TESTS RUN ON THIS CAR AND THEY CLAIM THAT IT PASSES, (EVEN THOUGH I CAN BARELY MAKE IT 4K WITHOUT HAVING TO ADD MORE OIL TO THE CAR) TODAY THE CAR IS BACK AT SERVICE TO FIX THE FRONT ENGINE COVER SEAL. ONE HAS TO WONDER IF THIS WAS THE OIL ISSUE ALL ALONG, HOWEVER IT WILL COST ME ALMOST A GRAND JUST TO GET THIS REPAIR DONE.

DID NOT THROW ERROR MESSAGE AT THAT TIME WAS TOLD TO DRIVE IT UNTIL IT DID IT AGAIN.

MORE RECENTLY IT'S BEEN HAPPENING WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. IT FEELS AS THOUGH THE ENGINE QUITS AND USUALLY AFTER A FEW SECONDS EVERYTHING COMES BACK ON. THE OTHER DAY I HAD 4 OR 5 OCCURRENCES WITH IN 7 MILES, THE LAST TIME WAS TURNING ONTO THE STREET I LIVE ON AND IT WAS MID LEFT TURN ALMOST RAN INTO THE STREET SIGN POLE WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILED. I STOP BY A SUBURU DEALER AND THE SERVICE WRITER ACTED AS THOUGH HE HAD NEVER HEARD OF IT. IT IS ALL OVER THE INTERNET. THIS IS NOT SAFE AND I HAVE HAD TO MANY ISSUES WITH MY SUBURU.

SUBARU ENGINES ARE USING EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL EVEN WHEN NEW, UP TO 1 QUART PER 1500 MILES. A 2014 LAWSUIT REQUIRED THEM TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, WHICH THEY ARE ONLY BARELY DOING. HUNDREDS OF OTHERS WITH THIS PROBLEM ARE BEING REQUIRED TO SIMPLY ADD MORE OIL AT $9 - $12/QUART 3-4 TIMES EACH OIL CHANGE. AS THE CAR AGES, THE CONSUMPTION CAUSES THE CAR ENGINE TO SEIZE WHEN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, CREATING THE POTENTIAL OF SERIOUS ACCIDENTS. AGAIN, SUBARU HAS OFFICIALLY ACTED TO NOT ADDRESS THIS ISSUE IN THEIR TSB 02-157-14R, TITLED SURFACE TREATMENT CHANGE TO OIL CONTROL PISTON RINGS. PRIOR TO THIS, DEALERSHIPS WERE INSTRUCTED TO CHANGE OUT THE PISTON RINGS. THIS TSB STATES: "CONCERNS RELATED TO A POSSIBLE OIL CONSUMPTION CONDITION ARE GENERALLY INITIATED WHEN THE CUSTOMER BELIEVES THE ENGINE OIL LEVEL ON THE DIPSTICK HAS DROPPED SINCE THE LAST TIME IT WAS CHECKED OR WHEN THE LOW OIL LAMP ILLUMINATES. THESE TYPES OF COMPLAINTS BY THEMSELVES DO NOT DIRECTLY INDICATE A CONCERN WITH THE VEHICLE EXISTS."

TURNED IGNITION KEY TO OFF AND REMOVED IT, ATTEMPTED TO START THE CAR SEVERAL TIMES WITHIN AN HOURS TIME, IT ACTED AS IF IT WAS GOING TO START BUT DIDN'T. HAD IT TOWED TO MECHANIC, ON A FLAT BED TOW TRUCK. IT STARTED UP AND ALL SYSTEMS WERE CHECKED WITH NO EVIDENCE OF FAILURE. DIAGNOSTICS WERE RUN WITH NO ACTIVE CODES, ELECTRICAL WAS CHECKED, NO EVIDENCE OF FAILURE. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A HUGE SAFETY EVENT, IF I HAD NOT BEEN IN AN OUTSIDE LANE AND WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF TRAFFIC. I HAVE HAD THREE MECHANICS LOOK AT IT AND NO ISSUE FOUND, BUT IN FEAR OF DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. GUESSES HAVE BEEN FUEL PUMP FAULTY? CAM SHAFT SENSOR FAULTY? ELECTRICAL?

AT 106,000 MILES THE CHECK OIL LEVEL LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON 3/22/2017. AT THAT TIME AFTER CHECKING I ADDED 1 AT OF OIL. I REPORTED THIS TO THE DEALER AFTER READING ONLINE THAT THERE WERE MULTIPLE REPORTS OF MY VEHICLE MODEL HAVING OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEMS. AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WAS SUBSEQUENTLY PERFORMED WHICH WAS NEGATIVE. IT WAS SUGGESTED TO ME BY THE DEALER THAT I COULD CONTACT SUBARU DIRECTLY IF I STILL HAD CONCERNS WHICH I DID. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT UNUSUAL FOR CARS TO USE EXTRA OIL AND THERE WAS NOTHING TO BE DONE ABOUT IT. SINCE THEN THE CHECK OIL LIGHT HAS REGULARLY ILLUMINATED PRIOR TO MY NEXT OIL CHANGE AND HAS REQUIRED THE ADDITION OF 1 QT OF OIL AT DECREASING MILEAGE INTERVALS. I AM NOW DOWN TO SEEING THE CHECK OIL ILLUMINATE AND ADDING OIL AT 3000 MILES. I HAVE FOLLOWED THE SUBARU RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SERVICE. I HAVE OWNED CARS MADE BY TOYOTA, NISSAN, HONDA, FORD, JEEP, CHEVROLET, VOLKSWAGON, MAZDA AND SUBARU OVER THE LAST 45 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD A CAR REQUIRE OIL ADDITIONS. I HAVE A FRIEND WITH A 2013 SUBARU FORESTER THAT WAS TOLD AT HER LAST SERVICE THAT THERE WAS NO OIL REGISTERING ON THE DIPSTICK. THAT YEAR MODEL HAS NO CHECK OIL WARNING LIGHT WHEN 1 QT DOWN. FOR MY YEAR MODEL THE VEHICLE WAS REDESIGNED AND A CHECK OIL LIGHT WAS ADDED WHICH MAY SUGGEST THERE WAS A PROBLEM DEVELOPING.

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALER (DCH SUBARU OF RIVERSIDE, 8069 INDIANA AVE, RIVERSIDE, CA 92504, 951-428-2314) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD PAY A PORTION OF THE REPAIR COST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 119,412.

THE PROBLEM I AM ENCOUNTERING HAS TO DO WITH THE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION. SINCE I HAVE OWNED MY 2014 SUBARU FORESTER, I HAVE HAD THE LOW OIL LEVEL DETECTED FOR THE ENTIRE TIME I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE. IN EARLY 2015 I HAD A OIL CONSUMPTION TEXT PERFORMED BY THE DEALER. THEY HAD ME BRING THE CAR BACK IN AFTER 1200 MILES. THEY SAID I DID NOT MEET THE CRITERIA FOR THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST THAT WOULD HAVE MADE MY ENGINE BE REPLACED. I NOW HAVE TO ADD OIL EVERY 2,500 MILES, AT A COST OF $9.00-10.00 A QUART. THEY STATED THAT IT WAS THE NORM FOR THIS MODEL CAR. I INDICATED THAT I HAVE A VW PASSAT THAT GOES 10,000 MILES BETWEEN OIL CHANGES AND NEVER LOSSES A DROP. I AM VERY DISSAPOINTED THAT THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WAS ONLY FOR 1200 MILES. THAT DID NOT PROVE THAT THERE WAS NOT A PROBLEM. WHY DID SUBARU ONLY HAVE OIT FOR 1200 MILES. THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE FOCUS ON OFFSETTING CUSTOMERS OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES FOR THE REST OF THE TIME THEY OWN THERE CAR. AS I DO DRIVE A LOT OF MILES FOR MY BUSINESS, I SPEND ON AVERAGE $140 A YEAR JUST ON BUYING OIL FOR BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. IT IS ALSO INCONVENIENT IF I AM TRAVELING AND I AM SOMEWHERE WERE I CAN NOT FIND FULL SYNTHETIC OIL IN THE PROPER WEIGHT WHICH CONCERNS ME AS I MY FAMILY AND I LIKE TO VACATION IN THE MANY DIFFERENT CAMP GROUNDS AROUND MARYLAND AND THE SURROUNDING STATES.

I GOT MY REGULAR OIL CHANGE. ONE MONTH LATER MY INDICATOR CAME IN READING 'SYSTEM DETECTS LOW OIL'. TOOK IT BACK TO THE SHOP WHERE I GOT MY OIL CHANGED, THEY TOLD ME IT WAS BONE DRY AND THAT MY CAR IS BURNING OIL. THEY SAID THAT I'M NOT THE ONLY SUBARU OWNER WHO HAS THAT PROBLEM. THEY JUST TOP THEIR OIL OFF EVERY MONTH. I CANNOT AFFORD THIS. FOUND OUT IT'S A DEFECTIVE PISTON RING THAT SUBARU KNEW THEY WERE SELLING. I WAS DRIVING FOR 6 HOURS ON THE HIGHWAY WITH THIS INDICATOR. THE CAR COULD HAVE EXPLODED. BUT I ASSUMED IT WAS JUST REACTING TO MY LONG DRIVE. I HONESTLY COULD HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY HURT OR KILLED. I DON'T KNOW IF I SHOULD SELL THE CAR OR PAY TO TAKE THE ENTIRE ENGINE APART.

MY 2014 FORESTER HAS STALLED ON ME 5 TIMES IN THE PAST 3 YEARS WHILE TRAVELING BETWEEN SAN ANTONIO AND EL PASO TX. WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (80MPH ON THIS PART OF I-10) WITH AND WITHOUT CRUISE CONTROL, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY WOULD MAKE A HARD DOWNSHIFT, THEN ANOTHER, AND ALLOWED ME ABOUT 10 SECONDS TO PULL OVER TO RIGHT SHOULDER, THEN STALLED. DURING THE DOWNSHIFT NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON UNTIL I WAS COMPLETELY STALLED AND THEN THEY ALL TURNED ON. ONE TIME IT GAVE ME A WARNING LIGHT THAT MY TRANSMISSION OIL WAS HOT, AFTER IT STALLED. I HAVE TRAVELED TO OTHER PLACES IN TEXAS WITH SAME VARIABLES OTHER THAN THE INCLINES/ DECLINES OF THAT PART OF I-10. THIS VEHICLE CANNOT HANDLE INCLINES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AFTER DRIVING AN HOUR OR TWO. I HAVE BEEN LUCKY THAT THE 5 TIMES MY FORESTER STALLED I WAS NOT SURROUNDED BY HEAVY TRAFFIC. THIS IS A VERY BAD SITUATION AND VERY DANGEROUS!! A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO I NOTIFIED MY SUBARU DEALER WHEN THEY DID AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST (BECAUSE I HAVE TO ADD A QUART BETWEEN EACH OIL CHANGE) AND THEY DID NOTHING. THE MANAGER SPECULATED SOME WORK THEY COULD DO AT MY COST BUT HAD NO ANSWERS OR SUGGESTIONS. I HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE BALL BEARINGS IN THE REAR RIGHT WHEEL. THESE THINGS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN TO A NEW CAR WITH HIGH RATINGS. MY 86 HONDA CIVIC COULD GO BETWEEN EL PASO AND SAN ANTONIO WITH NO PROBLEMS.

I HAVE AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH MY 2014 SUBARU FORESTER THAT WAS MANUFACTURED IN 2013, IN WHICH THE CHECK OIL LIGHT ROUTINELY GOES ON APPROXIMATELY HALF-WAY THROUGH A 6K OIL CHANGE. THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST SUBARU THAT STIPULATED AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST COULD BE INITIATED FOLLOWING AN OIL CHANGE. THE OIL LEVELS ARE CHECKED AT 1,200 MILES AFTER THE OIL CHANGE AND IF THE LEVELS ARE LOW THE VEHICLE WILL FAIL THE TEST AND QUALIFY FOR A NEW ENGINE AT NO COST. I'VE HAD 2 OIL CONSUMPTION TESTS COMPLETED ON MY CAR, WITH THE FIRST ONE DONE 1 YEAR AGO. MY VEHICLE PASSED BOTH TESTS AT 1,200 MILES, BUT ROUTINELY IS LOW ON OIL WELL BEFORE MY NEXT SCHEDULED OIL CHANGE. I HAVE FILED 2 COMPLAINTS WITH SUBARU OF AMERICA WITH NO SUCCESS. I LAST HAD MY OIL CHANGED AT 71,308 MILES, AND BROUGHT IT BACK FOR THE TEST 1,200 MILES LATER. I AM NOW 3K INTO THE SAME OIL CHANGE AND MY CHECK OIL LIGHT WENT ON YESTERDAY AND TODAY. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER TO CHECK THE LEVEL AND IT WAS 3/4 OF A QUART LOW, WHICH SUBARU OF AMERICA SAYS IS NORMAL OIL CONSUMPTION AT 3K INTO AN OIL CHANGE AND THEY WILL NOT REPLACE THE ENGINE. THIS IS NOT AN ISSUE FOR SUBARU FORESTERS MANUFACTURED IN 2014, AS SUBARU OF AMERICA CHANGED THE PISTONS IN THE ENGINE TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE. I AM VERY STUCK; THE DEALER WON'T HELP ME, SUBARU OF AMERICA WON'T HELP ME, AND THE CAR IS WORTHLESS GIVEN THE SERVICE RECORDS INDICATING THAT IT USES EXCESS OIL. I WORK FULL-TIME. I AM ALSO THE MAIN TRANSPORTATION FOR MY 2 YOUNG CHILDREN. I DRIVE WITH EXTRA QUARTS OF OIL IN MY CAR AND HAVE TO ADD OIL APPROXIMATELY 3-4.5K INTO A 6K OIL CHANGE WHEN THE LIGHT COMES ON. I WAS ON AN ON RAMP ONTO THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE COMPUTER IN THE CENTER OF THE DASH STARTED ALERTING THAT SEVERAL SYSTEMS NEEDED CHECK. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON AGAIN IT WAS IDLING HARD AND IT SEVERAL WARNING LIGHTS REMAINED ON. THE CAR WAS TOWED UNDER WARRANTY TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP. UPON INVESTIGATION THE DEALER SAID THERE WAS A BAD COIL. AFTER REPLACING THE COIL THE VEHICLE STILL DIDN'T WORK. NOW THEY CLAIMED THERE WAS A BAD FUEL INJECTOR. AFTER REPLACING THAT THE CAR CONTINUED NOT TO WORK. THE PROBLEM THEY KEPT SEEING WAS A MISFIRE IN CYLINDER 4. THEY CHANGED O-RINGS, THEY CLEANED THE ENGINE, THEY EVEN ORDERED A NEW ENGINE AND REPLACED THE ENGINE AND IT STILL SUFFERS FROM THE MISFIRE. THE CAR HAS NOW BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR 34 DAYS AND THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS WRONG OR HOW TO FIX IT.

WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE ON HIGHWAY SPEEDS IN TEMPERATURES AROUND 85-90 (OR GREATER) DEGREES VEHICLE WILL NOT ALLOW ACCELERATION. VEHICLE STUMBLES, DETONATES AND WILL NOT ALLOW THE DRIVER TO APPLY POWER WITHOUT HESITATION AND ENGINE STUMBLES. THIS PROBLEM CAN BE RECREATED AT WILL AND YET THE VEHICLE WILL NOT THROW A CEL UNLESS A LARGER FAILURE HAPPENS, WHICH TYPICALLY IS THE #3 CYLINDER BURNS OFF THE SPARK PLUG ELECTRODE AND DAMAGES THE ENGINE. SUBARU IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT CONSIDERS THIS CONDITION NORMAL. THE VEHICLE IS NOT APPROPRIATELY MAPPED FOR THE SUBARU SUGGESTED FUEL OCTANE LEVEL, HAS TURBO BOOST PIPING LEAKS ACCORDING TO NUMEROUS INDIVIDUALS.

THAT MEANS THAT I AM ADDING OVER 6 QUARTS OF OIL BETWEEN EVERY RECOMMENDED OIL CHANGE. THAT IS RIDICULOUS. THE OIL IS SYNTHETIC AND VERY EXPENSIVE. AFTER HAVING THE LOW OIL LIGHT COME ON SEVERAL TIMES WHEN I WAS ALONE AT NIGHT ON THE INTERSTATE, NOW I CARRY SEVERAL QUARTS OF OIL WITH ME AT ALL TIMES. THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE VEHICLE AND IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT SUBARU KNOWS OF THE PROBLEM AND WILL NOT ADDRESS IT. EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION IS A PROBLEM WITH A NUMBER OF SUBARU MODELS OVER A NUMBER OF YEARS. ATTEMPTED TO START THE CAR ON A COLD MORNING. BATTERY HAD GOOD CHARGE, BUT CAR WOULD NOT IMMEDIATELY START AS NORMAL. WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE COLD -10, BUT MIND YOU NO COLDER THEN THE 2013 WINTER IN WHICH MANY MANY MORNINGS AND DAYS WHEN THE POLAR VORTEX WAS UPON US DID THE CAR EVER FAIL TO START. THIS IS A 2014 TURBO XT MODEL, IN GENERAL TURBOS ARE HARD STARTERS, AS I RECENTLY OWNED A 2009 ACURA RDX TURBO, BUT AGAIN NEVER HAD STARTING ISSUES WITH THAT CAR. WHILE DRIVING OUR 2014 FORESTER XT 2.0 UPHILL ON THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 50 MPH, THE CEL, HILL-ASSIST, EYESIGHT-DISABLED AND ANOTHER WARNING LIGHT ALL CAME ON. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD, STOPPED AND CALLED THE DEALER, WHO SAID THE CAR COULD BE SAFELY DRIVEN IN FOR INSPECTION AS THE CEL WAS NOT BLINKING. APPARENTLY THE CEL LIGHT SETS OFF A BUNCH MORE TO GET YOUR ATTENTION. THE OBD CODES THE DEALER PULLED SAID THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER HAD FAILED (NO FURTHER EXPLANATION WAS OFFERED). THEY SAID A NEW ONE WOULD BE ORDERED AND INSTALLED UNDER WARRANTY. SO THE DEALER PUT IN THE NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER YESTERDAY, AND NOW THE ENGINE PERFORMS EXTREMELY POORLY COMPARED TO BEFORE SERVICE. THE ELECTRONIC TURBO BOOST GAUGE NOW SHOWS NEGATIVE BOOST (I.E., NO ACTIVATION) UNTIL OVER 20% THROTTLE POSITION IN I MODE (BEFORE, TURBO BOOST WAS OBTAINABLE AT 8% THROTTLE). THERE IS A HUMMING SOUND (RATHER LIKE THE ALTERNATOR BELT NOISE FORD VANS MAKE) THAT DROWNS OUT THE ENGINE PURR WHEN GENTLY REVVING THE ENGINE IN PARK AND, WHEN DRIVING, THE CVT SHIFTS VERY IRREGULARLY AND AT MUCH HIGHER RPMS IN I MODE (E.G., STAYING IN ONE GEAR UNTIL TACH HITS 2000 BEFORE SHIFTING WHERE BEFORE THE TACH NEVER WENT ABOVE 1500 AT ANY SPEED UNLESS WE WERE IN S/I OR S# MODE AND SHIFTING MANUALLY WITH THE PADDLES).
