RECALLCampaign #18V332000

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Dodge Journey, Charger and Durango, RAM 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis (more than 10,000lb), 4500 Cab Chassis and 5500 Cab Chassis, Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee and Chrysler 300, 2014-2019 RAM 1500, 2015-2018 Dodge Challenger, 2015-2017 Chrysler 200, 2016-2018 RAM 3500 Cab Chassis (less than 10,000 lb), 2017-2018 Chrysler Pacifica and 2018 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. These vehicles are being recalled to address a defect that could prevent the cruise control system from disengaging. If, when using cruise control, there is a short circuit within the vehicle's wiring, the driver may not be able to shut off the cruise control either by depressing the brake pedal or manually turning the system off once it has been engaged, resulting in either the vehicle maintaining its current speed or possibly accelerating.

Fix: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the software, and perform a software flash on the engine or powertrain control module, free of charge. The recall began June 4, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Note: Owners are advised to stop using cruise control until the software update has been performed. In the event that cruise control cannot be disengaged while driving, owners should firmly and steadily apply the brakes and shift the transmission to neutral, placing the vehicle in park once it has stopped.

Your airbag warning light stays on and displays a "service airbags system" message every time you start the truck. The horn and all steering wheel controls (like audio and cruise control buttons) don't work. The problem has been traced to a faulty clock spring inside the steering wheel, which is the electrical connection that allows these controls to function. Fixing this requires replacing the clock spring component in the steering wheel.

Your truck's ABS hydraulic control unit failed in September 2022, causing warning lights and transmission shifting problems, and cost $5,651 to repair. In November 2024, Ram issued a recall (C7B/NHTSA 24E-100) for the same defect affecting 2012-2018 Ram vehicles. You requested reimbursement from the manufacturer under federal law, which requires them to reimburse owners for pre-recall repairs of safety defects, but they denied your claim. The repair would involve replacing the ABS hydraulic control unit and associated brake system components.

Your trailer's integrated brake control system isn't responding properly when you're parked, driving, or braking — the brakes won't engage as they should. An independent mechanic diagnosed the problem as a faulty brake control module that isn't receiving enough electrical power. The fix will likely involve replacing or repairing the brake control module to restore proper power delivery to the trailer brake system.

Your air conditioner and heater blower motor isn't working properly. The service technician found that the computer box has corrosion because it wasn't sealed properly at the factory, and they said this is a known issue affecting multiple trucks like yours. If the corrosion gets worse and isn't fixed, it could damage your entire engine control module and prevent your truck from starting. The repair will likely involve replacing the corroded computer box and resealing it to prevent future moisture intrusion.

After a car wash, your truck lost all electrical power and wouldn't start, with the battery fully charged and terminals in good condition. When power briefly returned, pressing the starter produced only a clicking sound before all power shut down again, leaving the truck stuck in park. The dealership couldn't reproduce or identify the cause, which raises safety concerns since the truck could lose power while driving or become immobilized in traffic or dangerous locations. This may require diagnostic testing of the electrical system, starter motor, and battery connections to identify an intermittent fault.

Your engine keeps dying while driving, and the problem has gotten progressively worse over 10 months — from once a month to now happening almost every time you drive. The dealer replaced your ignition switch and wire harness for $865, but the problem continues. This may be related to an electrical or fuel system issue that wasn't properly diagnosed.

THE NAVIGATION DOES NOT TRACK MY VEHICLE PROPERLY. THE KEY FOBS FAIL OVER 50% OF THE TIME. THE UCONNECT APPLICATION ON MY PHONE FAILS TO WORK OVER 50% OF THE TIME AND TRUCK WILL NOT START, LOCK OR UNLOCK. THE TRUCK SAYS THE KEY FOB LEFT THE VEHICLE WHEN IT IS STILL IN THE VEHICLE CAUSING A SAFETY CONCERN WHEN DRIVING. EVEN WITH NEW BATTERIES IN THE FOBS. THE UPDATES HAVE FAILED DIFFERENT TIMES DUE TO SOMETHING CALLED THE SIERRA BOLO WIRELESS CARD. THE MORE AND MORE I HAVE EXPLORED WHAT COULD BE THE ISSUE, THE MORE CASES LIKE THIS I SEE AND WONDERING WHY THERE IS NO RECALL ON IT. THIS STARTED TAKING PLACE AS SOON AS I PURCHASED IT IN THE FALL OF 2017.

DRIVERS AND PASSENGER WINDOWS DO NOT RAISE OR LOWER BUT THE BACK SEAT WINDOWS ON BOTH SIDES RAISE AND LOWER FINE. THE OUTSIDE MIRRORS WILL NOT RETRACK AND THE RADIO DOES NOT TURN OFF WHEN THE KEY IS TURNED OFF AND REMOVED, EVEN IF TO GET OUT OF THE TRUCK AND USE THE REMOTE AND LOCK THE DOORS THE RADIO REMAINS ON, THE ONLY WAY TO TURN IT OFF IS USING RADIO KNOB TO TURN IT OFF. THE REMOTE START ONLY ALLOWS THE TRUCK TO RUN FOR 5 SECONDS THEN SHUTS THE ENGINE OFF. THIS TRUCK HAS A MIND OF IT SELF WITH THE DRIVER NOT BEING ABLE TO CONTROL THE FUNCTIONS. IT HAS BEEN SEEN BY DODGE MANY TIMES IN TEXAS AND NOW ARIZONA OVER A SPAN OF TWO YEARS.

I WENT OUT TO THE GARAGE AND STARTED THE TRUCK ON 2/19/2019 TO LEAVE ON VACATION. I DROVE APPROXIMATELY ONE MILE AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. UPON RETURNING TO THE TRUCK, THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START AND THE DASH SAID WRONG KEY FOB. WAITED 15 MINUTES NO START AND ONE HOUR LATER STILL WOULD NOT START HAD IT TOWED IN FOR SERVICE. THE DIAGNOSTIC TESTING SHOWED THE KEY FOB LOST CODE FOR THE IGNITION. CODE B1A7B-01 IGNM GENERAL ELECTRICAL FAILURE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THAT HAS HAPPENED TO THIS TRUCK. THE OTHER TIME WAS IN JULY, 2016. AT THAT TIME I WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY TRYING TO MOVE THE TRUCK WHEN THE DASH KEPT TELLING ME WRONG KEY FOB. SOMETIMES ONE KEY WOULD WORK AND THE OTHER KEY WOULDN'T AND VICE VERSA. I FINALLY GOT IT STARTED AND DROVE TO THE DEALER. THE KEY FOB LOST CODE FOR THE IGNITION WAS ALSO THE PROBLEM AT THAT TIME.

EITHER FROM A COLD START OR WHILE STARTED AND IN PARK, BUT ALWAYS STATIONARY, THE GEAR SHIFT INDICATOR WILL INDICATE IN REVERSE, BUT THE TRUCK IS IN PARK. SO, NOW THE KEY CAN NOT BE TURNED OFF AND REMOVED NOR CAN THE KEY BE TURNED TO START THE ENGINE, AND THE GEAR SHIFT CAN NOT BE MOVED UNLESS THE OVER RIDE BUTTON IS PRESSED, BUT THE ENGINE CAN NOT STILL BE STARTED. IT WILL RESET AND BE ABLE TO BE STARTED AFTER A PERIOD OF TIME RANGING FROM AVERAGE OF 15 MINUTES TO ONE HOUR, I ONCE HAD TO HAVE THE TRUCK TOWED BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT RESET AFTER ABOUT 5 HOURS. THE TRUCK HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER 4 TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM AND THE DEALER AS WELL AS CHRYSLER CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND STILL DENY THAT A PROBLEM LIKE THIS EXIST IN ANOTHER VEHICLE. I HAVE FILED THE LEMON LAW PAPER WORK AND WILL BEGIN THE PROCESS WITH IT.

THE KEY AND THE IGNITION SWITCH ARE LOCATED SUCH THAT MY RIGHT KNEE CAN BUMP THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND TURN THE VEHICLE OFF WHILE IT IS RUNNING... LIKE THE GM IGNITION ISSUE THAT CAUSED SUCH A STIR.... MY TRUCK HAD TURNED OFF ONCE ALREADY THIS WAY WHILE IT WAS RUNNING SINCE I BOUGHT THE TRUCK NEW ON JULY 22, 2015, I TOLD MY DEALER WHO SAID TO CALL RAM CUSTOMER CARE, WHICH I DID AND THEY JUST SAID THEY HAD NO RECALL NOTICE. ON 10/20/15 I CALLED THE LAW FIRM LIEFF CABRASER HEINMANN AND BERNSTEIN WHO REPRESENTED THE SAME ISSUE TO GM AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING WITH THE ISSUE SINCE THERE HAD BEEN NO DAMAGES ... YET.
