2021 Ram 1500 Engine Problems

I just recently purchased this vehicle about a month ago. It had 39,000 miles when I bought it. This past weekend I was changing the oil and found out that the oil pan was rusted through.

The truck went on fire after 15 min parking on [XXX]. Dodge did an initial inspection and could find nothing. I am glad we moved out of the vehicle with my pregnant wife and a 2-year-old toddler.

Truck would not start at first. Finally got it started to go home. All my Dash lights were all lit up but truck was running fine.

On 8/18/22, I pulled out from a stop sign and as I was moving over to my desired traffic lane, my vehicle shut down, we heard one ding from the dash board, no warnings appeared. I was on a major roadway (north decatur ave at the 215 North Beltway) and was fortunate to be able to move to the far righthand lane. Since there was a sidewalk I wasn't able to get my vehicle out of the roadway.

Fuel is pouring out of the lines onto the engine. Not just a leak, but flowing out. This could cause my engine to catch fire.

In July-2021 soon after purchasing Ram truck with EcoTec V8, I was slowing down to enter a driveway, at very slow speed of 2-3 MPH and turning right and the truck stopped and shut the engine off. There was a car behind me that had to stop to avoid me. Then in April-2022 when slowing down in a residential neighborhood to make a left turn the truck abruptly stopped again, and shut off the engine.

On at least 12 occasions since purchasing the vehicle new, when driving at low speed (below 20 MPH) the vehicle stalls. The engine turns off, leaving the vehicle undrivable in the middle of a road. This presents a significant safety issue as it leaves the driver stranded and vulnerable of an accident.

I was coasting to a stoplight to make a right turn. Just as I am starting the turn the truck's engine shuts off. I have enough energy to make the turn and coast to a stop.

April 12, 2022 multiple warning lights ( check engine, electronic throttle, etc. ) appeared, screen warning to get to dealer to service. April 13, 2022 visited local dealer, earliest to service April 20, 2022.

Today 02/27/2022 2021 Ram Etorque 5.7 Engine stalled while vehicle was braking at stop sign at a low speed, vehicle rolled to a stop. Auto emergency brake deployed and the auto shift engaged putting my truck from drive to park before I could place the vehicle in Neutral. I was able to restart the truck on first try after being stuck in the middle of the intersection.

Purchased this brand new truck back in July, 2021. As of today, it only has 7,200 miles on it. It has been hesitant when I press on the gas, as if it is going to stall out.

My 2021 Dodge RAM 1500 eTorque just stalls while driving. It's happened twice in the last 2 weeks. Both times were making a left hand turn going approximately 10-15 miles an hour.

After stalling the transmission tries to put itself in park and the electronic E-brake is automatically applied causing the truck to grind and stop abruptly. I have a 2021 ram 1500 and the belt started to make a lot of noise. I got it to the dealership and they had it a whole month and a half. They said it was the alternator but no it was something called a MGU (motor generator unit).

The MPU system was going out caused engine noises, the engine didn't sound like it wanted to change gears I drove very rough to the repair shop, it looks to be like a well known issue on Dodges with Etourqe they are 3 to 6 months behind in parts manufacturing

At 45mph the engine cut off. I had to coast to a stop on the side of the road and place the truck into park and then restart the engine. I have already taken the vehicle into the dealership to have recall 37A remediation performed last year.

The defective part is an exhaust manifold, both on the left and right hand side. Yes, it is available for inspection anytime. I have the right side part off of the vehicle for inspection as I have had it replaced.

When slowing down for a traffic light vehicle salled and e-brake was automatically engaged, Also happened when making a slow right hand turn, Has happened twice so far. Both times tok into dealer and it could not be reproduced. No warning for it happening and all software was up to date,

2nd report Had Timing cover replaced for a second time. Only has 17500 miles. It has started to leak again after 35 miles and has to go in for repair again.

Today I was driving on the freeway (Interstate 5) speed limit 70MPH in a rainstorm when my yellow check engine light came on and my truck began running roughly for about 3 minutes. The exhaust manifold bolts break from the exhaust manifold warping... I have repaired twice out of my own pocket ... I believe the mechanic said its because the exhaust manifold is made of cast iron and my block is aluminum

My 2021 Ram 1500 has an exhaust leak that has been leaking since June when I took it to the dealership, and they told me about the leak. They told me it would take 17 weeks before they could order my parts. Now my dealership has told me 6 to 8 months for parts.

I purchased a 2021 RAM Big Horn truck for 58k. At 33k miles both exhaust manifolds cracked causing the cab of the truck to fill with exhaust! This exhaust causes me headaches.

Pulling into my daughter's school this morning, I made a right, then a left into the parking lot/drop off line and the truck shut off completely. The parking brake came on, locked the truck up and automatically shifted itself to Park. Went to ACC mode.

Vehicle’s engine randomly shuts off while making slow turns. Error message appears saying to shift to park before starting engine then auto park engages. While driving the MIL chimed , check engine light is active along with low battery gauge illumination and low battery warning light , in park vehicle idling is erratic in drive or reverse idle is erratic also with spurts of motion, no active or stored codes are present but MIL is active

Exhaust manifold on passenger side has cracked leading to exhaust fumes in cabin, causing dizziness and headaches due to carbon monoxide ram has acknowledged this issue with a TSB but the fact that exhaust fumes come into the cabin on a vehicle that is five years old is concerning and in my opinion, a safety concern.

Oil pans are rusting through . Mine has 45,053 miles. In the 60k mile powertrain warranty.

Failed Motor Generator @ 74,000 miles while is covered under the Federal emissions warranty. Vehicle has been off road for 30 days with no ETA on replacement parts

Made a turn at 15 MPH and the car shut off by itself randomly. This is the fourth time it’s happened since owning the vehicle.

Was driving at low speed approaching a turn. As soon as I turn the vehicle shut off and I had to restart my truck. It is similar to what happened in this video [XXX] Believe the truck software needs a reflash.

On 02/27/2025 my wife drove the 2021 RAM 1500 Limited Diesel truck and the engine certainly stopped running. It happened once around 2:10PM on the freeway I-5 Southbound near exit 189 in WA State. She was on the most inboard lane to prepare to take exit 189 with speed about 45-50 MPH.

While driving I slowed down to make a left turn the truck shut down and safe hold temporarily disable message appeared. I had to wait to come to a complete stop and put the truck in drive and disengage the emergency brake. This has been happening frequently.

While driving down the road my vehicle randomly prompted me to engage the break, then shutdown and abruptly engaged the emergency brake. This could have easily been a life threatening situation for me and other nearby motorists. It is my understanding this is becoming a common occurrence and should be investigated immediately.

Car has turned off on multiple occasions while driving and emergency brake engages. Very dangerous. Forums show this is a common issue but does not produce an error code.

While driving the vehicle multiple times the engine has completely shut off and had zero power. The most recent time was traveling down the freeway at the speed limit and the vehicle shut off and lost all power steering.

The truck Shut down while driving 5 different times asking to be placed in Park. This creates a hazard as it stops in traffic. The truck restarts and resumes normal operation after these incidents.

Was making left turn in neighborhood truck shot off . Came to stop automatically went in to park , emergency brake came on restarted truck turned off brake drove away.

The engine cut off while driving out of the intersection and killed in the middle of the lane. Thankfully no cars were coming at the time. Had there been traffic, I was a sitting duck.

Driving on a 35 MPH highway and slowed to 10/15 MPH to make a left turn and engine stopped running. Drifted to get out of intersection and when almost stopped the e brake locked on. Restarted vehicle and continued driving.

Making a right turn under 20mph and the truck shut off on me . Got the "Shift to P to Start" message, followed by "Shifter Autocorrect Active", then after restarting got the message "Park Brake Auto Engaged Press Brake + Push Switch to Release" and "Safe-Hold Temporarily Disabled" and "AutoPark Disabled".

This following has now happened twice, first time 9/7/21- second time 11/12/21. While slowing from approximately 35-40 MPH to make a right hand turn the vehicle shuts off - auto braking engages - must restart the vehicle.

While performing left hand turn, braked to make turn, truck slowed down and engine cut off and display indicated put in park, emergency brake engaged. Had to come to complete stop and put in park to start back up. Had to manually disengage parking brake.

Taking a low speed (10mph) right turn into traffic the truck cut off and the emergency brake came on. Took 15-20 second to get the truck moving again.
