PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER/GUIDES AND THE CHAINS 61,000 MILES.
MY 2008 NISSAN PATHFINDER HAD TRANSMISSION ISSUES AND WAS REPLACED TWICE IN 2017. I BROUGHT TO THE NISSAN AUTHORIZED DEALER FIRST FOR A THUMBING SOUND WHEN PUSHING GAS PEDAL AFTER TAKING THE FOOT OFF. WHEN IT WORSENED THEY SAID IT WAS THE CALIPERS AND CHANGED MY CALIPERS FOR $2000. BUT THE THUMBING SOUND PERSISTED. AFTER A FEW MONTHS THEY SAID IT WAS TRANSMISSION ISSUE AND THEY CHANGED THE TRANSMISSION TWICE. THE THUMBING SOUND PERSISTED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN ABOVE 40 MPH. THE TRANSMISSION WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BUT THE SOUND GOT WORSE. I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP AND THEY FOUND BROKEN METAL PIECES IN THE REAL AXLE BOX. I CALLED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND THEY SAID THEY CANNOT HELP SINCE THERE IS NO RECALL. I SEE SIMILAR INCIDENTS REPORTED BY CONSUMERS IN THE INTERNET. NOW I HAVE TO PAY $3000 TO REPLACE THE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY ACCORDING TO THE QUOTE GIVEN BY THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP FOR PARTS AND LABOR. THIS WAS SOMETHING THAT COULD HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED DURING THE WARRANTY TIME AND NISSAN DEALERSHIP COULDN'T DIAGNOSE IT. NOT THEY SAY THE WARRANTY WAS OVER A YEAR AGO. HAVING THE GEAR BOX BROKEN IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN. THIS WAS SOMETHING THAT HAPPENED DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD BUT NOW NISSAN REJECTS TO CORRECT IT.
THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTING HARD.THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP SAYS MY TRANSMISSION COOLER FAILED, CAUSING MY COOLANT AND RADIATOR FLUID TO MIX. BECAUSE OF THIS I HAVE TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION, AND RADIATOR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN PATHFINDER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, ALL THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE VEHICLE LOST ACCELERATION. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DETERMINED THAT RADIATOR FLUID LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND DAMAGED THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND A CASE WAS OPENED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
WHEN THE CAR WAS PUT IN REVERSE OR PARK THE GEAR CHANGE STARTED TO BECOME DELAYED AND ROUGH THIS LATER PROGRESSED TO A LACK OF POWER WHILE DRIVING. THESE PROBLEMS HINTED TO THERE BEING A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. TOOK IT INTO A SHOP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE COOLANT WAS MIXING IN WITH THE TRANSMISSION FLUID THEREFORE DAMAGING BOTH THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION.

MY CURRENT MILEAGE AT DIAGNOSTIC WAS 104,000 MILES. MY PATHFINDER IS IN GREAT SHAPE AND HAS A LOT OF DRIVING LEFT IN IT. I FEEL LET DOWN BY NISSAN THAT THEY HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THIS DEFECT AND WILL NOT STAND BY THE FAULT TO KEEP CUSTOMER LOYALTY AND SATISFACTION. ENGINE CHAIN STARTED MAKING HUMMING/WHIRRING SOUNDS SEVERAL THOUSANDS OF MILES AGO -- I DON'T RECALL THE EXACT DATE. I HAD NO IDEA THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS FILED IN REGARDS TO THIS ISSUE UNTIL I RECENTLY RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE ONLINE. NISSAN FAILED TO INFORM ME OF THIS ISSUE.
OUR 2008 PATHFINDER LOST ALL POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY, CAUSING OTHERS CARS TO SWERVE TO MISS HITTING US. AFTER ABOUT 30 SECONDS WE WERE ABLE TO REGAIN A LITTLE BIT OF SPEED ( ABOUT 30 MPH) TO BE ABLE TO PULL OFF THE FREEWAY AND HEAD DOWN AN EXIT RAMP. THIS EXPERIENCE WAS VERY SCARY FOR MY FAMILY AND I WITH TWO YOUNG KIDS IN THE BACK SEAT, WITH CARS PASSING US AT SPEEDS UPWARD OF 70 MPH. EVEN ON THE WAY HOME THAT NIGHT, THE SUV WOULD START TO DRIVE AT NORMAL SPEED, THEN SUDDENLY COME TO ALMOST A COMPLETE STOP AT ABOUT 5 MPH.
IN ABOUT JANUARY OF THIS YEAR 2016 I NOTICED A VIBRATION DURING GEARSHIFTING WHILE DRIVING. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO MY MECHANIC BECAUSE WHEN I EXPLAINED THE ISSUE TO NISSAN THEY SAID OUT OF WARRANTY AND ALL PARTS AND LABOR WOULD NOT BE COVERED SO I WENT TO MY MECHANIC ANYWAY WHO SAID I HAD TRANSMISSION FAILURE DUE TO A LEAK FROM THE RADIATOR WHICH I BELIEVE IS A DESIGN FLAW ON THE CAR. IF NISSAN KNEW ABOUT A RADIATOR ISSUE WHY WAS I NEVER INFORMED SO I COULD POTENTIALLY REPLACE THE RADIATOR BEFORE IT DESTROYED MY TRANSMISSION? I AM SEEKING FULL REIMBURSEMENT ON ALL PARTS AND LABOR IN THE TRANSMISSION. CATASTROPHIC COOLING/TRANSMISSION FAILURE. TRAVELING EAST ON A HEAVILY TRAVELED SINGLE LANE HIGHWAY WITH NO BREAKDOWN LANE. SUDDEN NOISE FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, SOUNDING LIKE LIQUIDS BEING EXPELLED. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. ENGINE TEMPERATURE GAUGE PEGS TO HIGH. LIMPED ALONG THE HIGHWAY UNTIL I COULD REACH A SAFE POINT TO PULL THE OVERHEATING VEHICLE OFF ROAD. ARRANGED FOR A TOW AND HAD THE VEHICLE INSPECTED. THE INSPECTION REVEALED FAILURE OF THE RADIATOR. AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION AND WITH SOME RESEARCH, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT NISSAN HAS A KNOWN DESIGN FLAW THAT CONTRIBUTES TO THE EVENTUAL FAILURE, IN A CATASTROPHIC EVENT, OF THE COOLING AND TRANSMISSION COMPONENTS. MY VEHICLE WAS MIXING ENGINE COOLANT AND TRANSMISSION FLUID TOGETHER. THE SUDDEN FAILURE OF THE RADIATOR, EXPELLED ENGINE COOLING AND TRANSMISSION FLUID IN A SUDDEN AND RAPID EVENT. THIS IS A KNOWN AND DOCUMENTED EVENT THAT NISSAN IS FULLY AWARE OF. A SUDDEN FAILURE OF THESE COMPONENTS POSES A SAFETY RISK FOR THE OWNER, OCCUPANT, PUBLIC AND ENVIRONMENT. *TR

IN ADDITION, RADIATOR FLUID LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 114,000.

I DID RESEARCH AND FOUND THE CLASS ACTION SUIT REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. I PLACED A CLAIM WITH CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND WAS TOLD I WAS 1500 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY SORRY. I OWN A NISSAN PATHFINDER 2008. THE PROBLEM WAS NOTICED WHEN THE VEHICLE'S RADIATOR BEGAN TO RUN HOT. WE TOOK IT TO A REPAIR SHOP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE COOLANT WAS MIXING WITH THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. WE REPLACED THE RADIATOR IN HOPES THAT THE DAMAGE HAD NOT EXTENDED TO THE TRANSMISSION. WHILE OUT OF TOWN ON A TRIP, THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT IN THE PATHFINDER. THE TRUCK WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE LOCAL DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS GONE, AND IT WOULD REQUIRE REPLACING. I HAVE PREVIOUSLY CALLED NISSAN AND WAS ADVISED THAT THERE WAS SOME TYPE OF RECALL, BUT MY VEHICLE HAD TOO MANY MILES. THE DEFECT IS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT, NOT ONE OF MY OWN DOING. I DID RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON NISSANS PART AND THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY THIS ISSUE. I BOUGHT THE SUV IN 2010 AS A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED THAT ALREADY HAD 48K MILES ON IT. I ALSO HAVE A 84 MONTH/100K MILES LIMITED WARRANTY ON THE CAR THAT COVERS THE TRANSMISSION, BUT I WAS TOLD THAT THIS WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER MY TRANSMISSION SINCE MY TRANSMISSION WAS DAMAGED BY NISSAN'S FAULTY RADIATOR. THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE WENT OUT. NISSAN STATED IT WOULD COST 1000.00 FOR THE PART AND 500.00 LABOR. I HAVE HAD SO MUCH TROUBLE WITH THIS VEHICLE SINCE I BOUGHT IT IN 2010. NOW THIS ABOUT THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE. THIS IS NOT A GOOD CAR. I FEEL I HAVE BEEN SCREWED AND NOW I HAVE TO PAY FOR A CAR THAT I CAN'T AFFORD TO HAVE FIXED. *TR
MY 2008 NISSAN PATHFINDER HAS A RADIATOR THAT FAILED CAUSING ENGINE COOLANT TO MIX WITH THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID THUS CAUSING A TOTAL FAILURE OF MY TRANSMISSION. IN RESEARCHING AFTER THE FAILURE I HAVE FOUND THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH NISSAN PATHFINDERS, FRONTIERS, AND XTERRAS FROM 2005-2008. IT IS TO THE POINT WHERE PEOPLE HAVE TAKEN THE TRANSMISSION LINE OUT OF THE COOLANT SYSTEM LOOP PRIOR TO THE RADIATOR FAILING IN ATTEMPT TO SAVE THE TRANSMISSION FROM THE INEVITABLE FAILURE. THESE RADIATORS NEED TO BE RECALLED TO PREVENT ANOTHER TRANSMISSION FROM TOTAL FAILURE AND THUS PREVENT SERIOUS ACCIDENTS RESULTING IN INJURY OR DEATH IN THE FUTURE. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN! IN MY INSTANCE WHILE DRIVING MY WIFE AND MY 7 DAY OLD FIRST BORN SON TO HIS DOCTORS APPOINTMENT MY NISSAN PATHFINDER BEGAN TO HESITATE AND SLIP, THEN CATCH, AND SLIP, AND LOCK UP, AND JERK, AND THEN ONLY SLIP. I WAS FORCED TO PUSH MY VEHICLE A DISTANCE WHILE VEHICLES PROCEEDED TO PASS ME AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. ALL THE WHILE MY WIFE AND 7 DAY OLD INFANT INSIDE. I THEN NEEDED TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER CALLING THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP I WAS TOLD THAT IS FAIRLY COMMON AND THEY WERE NOT SURPRISED. 2005-2008 NISSAN PATHFINDERS, XTERRAS, AND FRONTIERS HAVE FAULTY RADIATORS THAT ARE CAUSING CATASTROPHIC FAILURE TO THE TRANSMISSION AND ARE EXTREMELY UNSAFE FOR THE PASSENGERS OF THESE VEHICLES. DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE BEFORE NISSAN ADMITS TO AND FIXES THIS AVOIDABLE PROBLEM? THIS IS VERY COMMON KNOWLEDGE FOR ALL TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOPS AS WELL AS NISSAN DEALERSHIPS. *TR
RADIATOR LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION, BOTH WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED $4500-4800 FIX. *TR
MY 2008 NISSAN PATHFINDER SUDDENLY STOPPED WHILE DRIVING. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT THE RADIATOR CRACKED AND FLUID GOT INTO THE TRANSMISSION. THERE WERE NO SIGNS THAT JY CAR WAS HAVING ANY PROBLEM PRIOR TO THIS. BECAUSE MY CAR IS 1000 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY THEY REFUSE TO WARRANTY IT EVEN THOUGH THIS IS Q KNOWN PROBLEM. MY CAR IS LEASED AND I CAN NOT TURN IT IN UNTIL I HAVE IT IN WORKING CONDITION. IN ORDER TO FIX IT THE DEALER WANTS TO CHARGE ME $9,000. *TR
THE COMPUTER SYSTEM IN THE 2008 NISSAN PATHFINDER MALFUNCTIONS AND ALL GAUGES, SPEEDOMETER, AND WARNING SYSTEMS STOP WORKING. THIS HAPPENS WHEN DRIVING. THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL CAUSE THE CARS TO ACCELERATE. *TR
