2017 Kia Sportage Engine Problems

My wife was driving home from work on 10-15-2025 when the car started to lose power and started shaking, vibrating really bad. She got off the exit and at the red light and it died. She called me crying and scared.

End of July, the engine died on the highway when performing an emergency swerve to avoid a collision. This is an issue that is subject to the settlement of one of the several related class action lawsuits against Kia/Hyundai for catastrophic engine failures but not, to my knowledge, one of the specified engine models. Engine caught on fire

The vehicle was in motion on a highway, there was white smoke coming from the engine. Immediately after pulling over more white smoke came out of the engine towards the rear of the motor. After exiting the vehicle flames appeared from under the car near the rear of the motor, the flames grew from all side of the engine.

I received a product improvement campaign letter from kia motors of america incorporated dated december 2nd 2018 they said they would like to perform a software update to the ecu in my vehicle it also states kia is providing lifetime warranty coverage to both new and used vehicle owners for engine long block assembly repairs needed due to excessive connecting rod bearing damage upon completion of this product improvement campaign I did take the car in for the ecu sensor update and ask them exactly what does that mean and they said the ecu sensor will indicate to the driver that the engine is experiencing damage or problems and to bring it in.

Dealing with oil loss since last year, single owner new vehicle. First time no oil towed to fayetteville nc kia where they said nothing was covered under warranty because I had the oil changed somewhere else. I paid for tow and repair which basically involved adding oil jumping battery in morning.

My Kia engine has failed and Kia is refusing to submit or honor my engine replacement claim under the known engine defect class action/recall. The dealer told me that the claim cannot be submitted because a prior owner did not receive the KSDS (Knock Sensor Detection System) software update.

Oil change completed on 6/19/2025 Noticed oil leaking 3-4 days after change. Performance Plus, came to my work and inspected oil leakage. They stated the leak was coming from the oil pressure switch.

I was driving down the hiway and my vehicle just shut down without warning. Kia will fix for $12,000 . This is unfair I feel it should be fixed this happened almost a years ago and still nothing!

The warranty was issued by Route 66 CO. Both parties (Bank & Warranty CO.) granted the loan and warranty understanding there was a “Prior Salvage” title and had been cleared to sell the vehicle.

My 2017 Kia Sportage has been a problem for several months and I have taken or had it taken (by tow truck) to the dealership several times. Engine not running properly, oil consumption, making strange noises and have been told that there was nothing that they could find or they would say they fixed something minor. The problems just keep compounding.

I purchased a pre-owned 2017 Kia Sportage (~34,000 miles) from a Kia dealership in January 2020. I had my oil changed in late June 2022 at approximately 64,500 miles. In early October 2022 at approximately 67,800 miles (+3300) I noticed my oil light flickering when I would break form a high rate of speed.

My engine locked up 8/29/22 , my mechanic informed me there was a recall associated with the engine .We had the car transferred to the local dealership . I was denied due to the dealer, Bill Byrd kia stating that the manufacturer , Kia , wouldn’t cover it due to not receiving the previous safety recall .

My Sportage SX started to slow in an off-ramp & then died completely stranding me in traffic. 2/13/22 is when this happened. Dealer is saying that engine pressure caused a spark plug to break & batter the cylinder.

I have performed the required oil changes since the car was purchased with the KIA dealer network. At 50,000 miles my oil light came on while making a turn and I brought it to the nearest dealer. They changed the oil and started an oil comsumption test.

I just changed my oil 2 weeks ago and it has lost 3 quarts of oil already, and I do not have any oil leaks, nor is the oil/engine light coming on.

Mileage at 94,000 miles, less than 100,000 warrantied for, and this car is using oil until its dry less than every 1000 miles. I can't go anywhere without carrying oil in the car. Took it to the dealer and was told Kia would not approve engine work.

2017 kia sportage lx 2.4l bought brand new and has been using oil. Car now has a little over 22,000 miles and is using 1.4 quarts of oil during the 5000 mile dealership oil changes which have all been done at the dealership since purchasing new.

This is the second time the car has cut off in the last 2-3 months. The first time I was in traffic waiting for a traffic light, the car was in drive, it started to rough idle and then it cut off, it took a couple of tries to restart the car, I took it to the dealership the next day and was told it was due to dirty fuel injectors and was charged for fuel injector cleaning. Yesterday 2/13/19.

My kia sportage engine light came on and the engine started making a knocking noise while driving down road on a saturday night . (dealerahip was closed) first thing monday morning called kia dealer. Took into dealer .

The Catalytic Converter in the Kia. We were driving to Texas to take my kids out for mini vacation and it’s cut off right in the middle of the highway. My car was running just fine everything was fix properly.

Kia Sportage has had serious oil consumption issues for 3 years. And recently is loosing pressure in cylinder 2 as a result of excessive carbon build up on valves and head from oil burning in the combustion chamber.

Blown engine P1236 knock sensor circuit

Kia when producing the engine left metal shavings that they didn't blow out. This lead them to put a KSDS sensor in. The sensor just let's you know of a catastrophic engine failure.

My Kia engine is blown.Kia engine rod bearing failed due to metal shavings when they made the engine. They didn't blow the shavings out.They are stating it's my fault do to lack of maintenance records they will not replace my engine. This is there loophole in the lawsuit to deny people of there claims.

excessive engine oil consumption, 2 quarts every 1,000 miles. which prompts me to change spark plugs every 10,000 miles because they get so fouled up. this has been going on since 55,000 miles and now have 80,000 miles, it started with .5 quart and now it is up to 2 quarts.

Engine seized on my way to work on July 26,2024. Oil consumption, riding rough.

After an oil change and driving the vehicle 375 miles the oil level is between full and low. This would be an excessive oil consumption issue.

My car keeps burning oil at a rapid rate. I have to replace every 3 weeks.
