Your 2012 Kia Sorento experienced engine failure at around 250,000 miles while driving into a parking spot — the vehicle suddenly lost power and stalled. Kia had issued two recalls for your vehicle (one for the engine and one for the brakes), but replacement parts were unavailable for an extended period. When you took the vehicle to a mechanic, they confirmed complete engine failure, and Kia refused to replace the engine because the recall sensor work hadn't been completed before the failure occurred. The dealer also denied coverage under warranty due to your vehicle's mileage. Resolving this would likely require pursuing a claim with Kia directly or exploring your state's lemon law protections, as the engine failure appears connected to the unperformed recall.

Your 2012 Kia Sorento caught fire in the engine compartment while idling, just days after the dealer completed a recall service for a brake system safety issue. You noticed smoke coming from under the hood, opened it, and found flames coming from the fuse box area. A fire investigator from the manufacturer examined the vehicle but could not determine the exact cause of the fire. The fire may be related to the recall work that was recently performed, and you should have your dealer or manufacturer investigate the connection between the recall service and this fire incident.

Your engine is making a knocking noise from the rod bearings, and your check engine light is on. You've been notified about three separate recalls affecting your powertrain, brakes, and engine, but your dealer hasn't diagnosed or repaired the vehicle yet, and your warranty company has declined to cover the repairs. Fixing this will likely require engine inspection and possible bearing replacement.

While driving at 60 mph, your 2012 Kia Sorento jerked with abnormal rattling from the engine, and the check engine light came on. A dealer inspection found metal shavings inside the engine, which relates to an open safety recall (NHTSA Campaign 23V652000). The dealer refused to perform the recall repair, citing inadequate maintenance history, and your vehicle was not repaired. This issue typically requires engine inspection and possible internal component replacement or engine rebuild to remove the metal debris.

Your parking lights stay on continuously, and even after replacing the brake light switch, the switch doesn't align properly with the brake pedal stopper mechanism that's supposed to turn off the brake lights. This causes the lights to remain on and drain your battery, requiring you to disconnect the battery to prevent complete discharge. The issue appears to be that the brake pedal mechanism has shifted out of alignment with the switch.

Since I purchased the car on 9/14/2020 I have had to get brakes done 3 times. First bought and replaced the brakes within 30days then on 12/22/21 replaced again and on 6/24/2022 brakes rotors and calipers.
In 2017 there was a recall on the Rear Wheel Sensor that I had already paid to have fixed in 2016. I was refunded in 2017 for the paid recall. The same issue has come up again on my car with the ABS, traction and stability control lights coming on. I will be taking it to the shop to repair again. I feel this could be another recall issue.
The rear wheel speed sensor housing covers are prone to water intrusion. The rear wheel sensor signal is interrupted and illuminates the ABS(anti-lock brakes),the ESC(electronic stability control) and the downhill sensor warning lights in the instrument cluster.Kia fixed the problem on July 24 2017. The same problem is occuring again (the warning lights came on last month) and Kia states that its out of warranty. I am not certain if it is a safety concern, but I don't want my rear wheels to fall off. Thank you
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 KIA SORENTO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE ENGINE BLEW OUT AND MADE A LOUD NOISE. ALSO, THE BRAKES FAILED. THE CONTACT TEMPORARILY LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, BUT MANAGED TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER. THE ENGINE SPRAYED OIL ALL OVER THE GROUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO PARKSIDE KIA (9929 PARKSIDE DR, KNOXVILLE, TN 37922, (844) 755-6461). THE DEALER WANTED THE CONTACT TO PAY OVER $2,000 TO DETERMINE WHO WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ENGINE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE FAULTY ENGINES THAT WERE SHIPPED FROM KOREA; HOWEVER, THERE WERE NO RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,337.
SORENTO RECALL. FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE STANDARD NO.114.REQUIRES THE SERVICE BRAKE TO BE DEPRESSED BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION CAN BE SHIFTED OUT OF PARK. WHEN EXCESSIVE FORCE IS APPLIED TO THE GEAR SHIFT LEVER, THE PARK POSITION CATCH IN THE BRAKE-SHIFT INTERLOCK MECHANISM CAN CHIP OR CRACK. THIS DAMAGE CAN CAUSE THE SHIFT LEVER TO BE MOVED OUR OF PARK WITHOUT PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL THUS THE VEHICLE CAN ROLL INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH AND OR INJURY ESPECIALLY IF DRIVER IS NOT PRESENT.
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED ON 3-25-15 WITH A FULL FACTORY WARRANTY. AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR A FEW DAYS MY WIFE AND I BOTH NOTICED THE BRAKE PEDDLE DRIFTING TO THE FLOOR WHILE STOPPED AND THE VEHICLE WOULD START TO CRAWL FORWARD. DURING LONG STOPLIGHTS THE BRAKE PEDDLE WILL SLOWLY DRIFT TO THE FLOOR AND HAS TO BE PUMPED UP. I HAVE TAKEN THIS TO THE KIA DEALER TWICE AND THE FIRST TIME WAS TREATED LIKE I WAS AN IDIOT THEY DID A CURSORY INSPECTION AND SAID THERE WAS NOTHING FOUND AND RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO ME. I LEFT AND DROVE THE VEHICLE FOR ABOUT A WEEK AND FOUND THAT AT ALMOST EVERY STOPLIGHT IT WOULD DO THE SAME THING LOOSE BREAKING AND BEGIN TO ROLL FORWARD. I THEN TOOK IT TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC "IN & OUT AUTO" HE STATED TO ME THERE WAS BREAK LOSS AND PEDDLE MOVEMENT TO THE FLOOR AND RECOMMENDED I RETURN IT TO THE DEALER. I DID SO THE NEXT DAY EXPLAINING WHAT I WAS TOLD SO THEY HAD A DIFFERENT MECHANIC LOOK IT OVER AND HE WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE & MAKE THE VEHICLE DO THE SAME THING "BUT" THEY KIA SAID THERE WAS NO NEED OF REPAIR AND THIS IS NORMAL AGAIN SENDING ME HOME. THIS IS VERY DISCONCERTING ESPECIALLY IN TRAFFIC AND ALSO I NOTED ON REVERSING AT A STORE PARKING LOT THE BREAKS FADED WHEN PEDESTRIANS WERE WALKING BEHIND MY VEHICLE. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN FOR NOT ONLY MYSELF BUT OTHER DRIVERS AND PEDESTRIANS. I HAVE KIAS PAPERWORK SHOWING BOTH TRIPS TO THEIR SHOP WITH NOTHING BEING DONE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. *TR
I PURCHASED CAR AROUND SEPTEMBER 2013. I STARTED TO NOTICED SOMETIME LATER IN 2013. AS I PULL OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, GET TO THE END OF DRIVEWAY AND STOP TO WAIT ON TRAFFIC. I NOTICED THIS GRINDING LIKE SOUND WHEN I APPLY MY BRAKES. HOWEVER I ALSO NOTICED THIS SOUND WHEN I APPLIED MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE TO GAS PEDAL. SO WHEN I TOOK CAR IN FOR SERVICE I ASKED IF MY BRAKES WOULD BE CHECKED, THEY SAID YES. TOLD ME BRAKES WERE FINE. CONTINUED TO HEAR THIS NOISE. EXPLAINED THE NOISE ON ONE OCCASION AT THE DEALERSHIP WHILE GETTING SERVICE AND THEY STILL SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. IT IS NOW JANUARY 2015 AND I STILL HERE THAT SAME NOISE. I DECIDED TO CHECK ONLINE TO SEE IF OTHERS WERE HAVING THIS SAME ISSUES AND SINCE I WAS ABLE TO FIND AT LEAST 2 OTHER CASES REPORTED. I THOUGHT MAYBE I SHOULD REPORT WHAT WAS HAPPENING TO ME TO AND HOPEFULLY IT WOULD BE LOOKED AT SOONER RATHER THAN LATER. THEY CALLED IT BRAKE HYDRAULIC PROBLEMS. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT OR IF ANY SOLUTIONS ARE BEING LOOKED AT BECAUSE THESE PEOPLE REPORTED THIS BACK IN 2012 AND HERE IT IS 2015 AND I HAVEN'T HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT ANY RECALLS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 KIA SORENTO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 2 MPH, THE VEHICLE STOPPED ABRUPTLY WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. 2012 KIA SORENTO. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE PEDALS ARE TOO CLOSE TOGETHER. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN HE APPLIED THE BRAKE PEDAL, HIS FOOT ALSO HIT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD TRAVEL BELOW THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL.
DURING SLOWING, AT LOW SPEEDS, WITH THE FOOT ON THE BRAKES, THIS VEHICLE MAKES LOUD NOISES WHICH GO AWAY IF THE FOOT IS TAKEN OFF THE BRAKES. THE NOISE EVENTUALLY STOPS AS THE VEHICLE COMES TO A STOP. THIS KIA SORENTO APPEARS TO STOP NORMALLY, BUT THE NOISE DOES NOT INSTILL CONFIDENCE, NOR DOES THE NOISE SOUND NORMAL FOR A VEHICLE WITH 6,615 MILES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2012 KIA SORENTO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING ON A MOUNTAINOUS ROAD AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY INCREASED ACCELERATION. THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT THE PEDAL DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AND CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE EVENTUALLY STOPPED AFTER CRASHING INTO A CEMENT WALL. THE AIRBAG LOCATED IN THE STEERING WHEEL DID NOT DEPLOY UPON IMPACT. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE HEAD AND THE ENTIRE BODY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE INSURANCE DECLARED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS AND BRAKES WERE FAULTY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 385. WHILE COMING TO STOP AT INTERSECTION OR PULLING INTO PARKING LOT SPACE AT LOW SPEED, I COULD HEAR AND FEEL BRAKES GRINDING TO A COMPLETE STOP, UPON RELEASING THE BRAKE PEDAL I COULD HEAR AND FEEL WHAT I BELIEVE TO BE THE CALIPERS GRINDING AS THEY RELEASE. IT HAPPENS WHENEVER I COME TO A STOP OR WHEN I AM ABLE TO DRIVE FORWARD UPON RELEASE OF THE BRAKES. I FEEL UNSAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. THIS NOISE OCCURRED JUST AFTER 10000 MILES. BEFORE THIS QUIET AND SMOOTH BRAKING. ON JANUARY 11, 2012 I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN AND SERVICE DESK PERSON SAID THE SERVICE MANAGER WOULD LIKE TO TEST DRIVE THE VEHICLE. I OBSERVED THE SERVICE MANAGER DRIVE OUT OF LOT AND AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES SERVICE MANAGER WALKED BACK IN AND TALK WITH SERVICE DESK PERSON. AFTER THREE HOURS OF WAITING THE SERVICE DESK PERSON INFORMED ME THE SERVICE MANAGER DID HEAR THE NOISE FROM THE BRAKES AND APPARENTLY THEY WERE IN CONTACT WITH KIA CORP. THRU E-MAIL CONCERNING THIS MATTER TO SEE IF THE MANUFACTURER WILL COVER THE REPAIRS. AFTER A WHILE I WAS INFORMED BY THE SERVICE DESK THAT KIA HAS BEEN RECEIVING NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS CONCERNING GRINDING NOISE FROM BRAKES, AND THAT THEY ARE WORKING ON THE PROBLEM, AND I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THEN FOR A SOLUTION, ALSO PER KIA SO SAID THE DESK PERSON (VEHICLE IS SAFE TO DRIVE UNTIL A SOLUTION CAN BE FOUND.) I HAVE LOST CONFIDENCE IN THIS VEHICLE AND FEEL ONE DAY IT MAY NOT STOP AT ALL. I RESPECTFULLY REQUEST A QUICK REVIEW OF THIS MATTER AND HOPEFULLY A QUICK SOLUTION. *TR
