Filed: Jun 2024

Your original tires from the factory have experienced multiple belt failures. The first tire failed during a long drive at 16,760 miles and required emergency replacement in January 2024, followed by a second tire failure just days later at 18,927 miles. After inspection, all four original tires were found to have defective belts and were replaced under warranty in March 2024. The tire manufacturer (Kumho) has not yet reimbursed you for the first two emergency replacements. Resolving this issue will likely involve pursuing a warranty claim with the tire manufacturer and providing documentation of the failed tires.

While driving at 80 mph, you noticed abnormal vibration from your tires. A mechanic found that the tread was separating on both rear tires, which is a serious safety issue. The original Kumho Crugen tires were replaced. You'll need to have your tires inspected regularly and replaced if you notice similar vibration or uneven wear.

Vehicle Speed Control,lane Departure1 issue
criticalVEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,LANE DEPARTURE
Filed: Jun 2025

Your Sedona intermittently refuses to accelerate or shift properly, creating dangerous situations on highways and when merging into traffic. There are no warning lights to alert you of the problem, and the only fix is to pull over, turn off the engine, and restart the vehicle—after which it works normally for days or weeks before the issue returns. Two Kia dealerships have been unable to diagnose or fix the problem. A transmission control module replacement or engine control software update may be needed to resolve this acceleration failure.

Air Bags,seat Belts1 issue
criticalAIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS
CrashFiled: May 2025

During a car accident, your airbags failed to deploy and your seat belt didn't lock, even though the other vehicle's airbags deployed properly. This left you without the safety protection you should have had during the crash. The airbag and seat belt systems may need to be inspected and repaired by a dealer to identify why they didn't function as designed.

Unknown Or Other1 issue
criticalUNKNOWN OR OTHER
CrashFiled: Jun 2021

Your vehicle may be vulnerable to theft due to security vulnerabilities in Kia's design. Stolen vehicles are being used in dangerous situations including high-speed police pursuits and crashes, creating safety risks for you and others. The complaint notes that your car sustained mysterious damage, possibly from being stolen and involved in an incident. Addressing this issue would likely require a software security update or hardware modifications to the vehicle's anti-theft system.

Electrical System,exterior Lighting,unknown Or Other1 issue
highELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
Filed: Oct 2025

Your headlights or exterior lights are going out every six months without a clear cause. Additionally, your car shudders or sputters when you accelerate, which feels like it could be related to belt slipping or transmission issues, but multiple shop visits haven't identified the root cause. This problem has persisted since you bought the car. Resolving this will likely require a thorough diagnostic to identify whether it's an electrical, belt, or transmission-related issue.

NHTSA #: 11691853
Electrical System,engine1 issue
highELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
Filed: Aug 2025

Your engine started making a knocking sound while driving on the highway in a construction zone with no safe place to pull over. The knock sensor warning light didn't come on, so you had no advance warning of the problem. Your car was towed to the dealership, but Kia declined to take responsibility since there's currently no recall for this issue. The knock may indicate an engine timing or fuel quality problem that needs diagnostic testing and possible engine repair.

NHTSA #: 11683663
Vehicle Speed Control, forward Collision Avoidance1 issue
highVEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
Filed: Apr 2021

While using cruise control at 45 mph on an empty road, your vehicle suddenly braked hard and the front end dropped, triggering multiple collision warning alerts on the dashboard even though there were no obstacles present. The alerts cleared after restarting the engine, but the same issue happened again about 20 miles later when you re-engaged cruise control. The problem appears to be a malfunction in the forward collision avoidance system or its sensors that caused false braking events.

NHTSA #: 11414324
