Kia Motors America (Kia) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Rio and Forte vehicles. A bolt in the steering column may not be secured properly, which can cause the steering column to detach from the steering rack and result in a loss of steering control.

Your steering wheel tension feels inconsistent — it will suddenly loosen briefly then tighten back up, especially at highway speeds and in wind, forcing you to make constant small corrections to keep the car straight. Your car also won't stay in alignment, losing it again within a few hundred miles even after multiple alignment services. The dealership has replaced your steering column and housing and reprogrammed the system, but the problem persists. This issue may require a deeper diagnostic of the power steering system and suspension alignment components to identify the root cause.

Your 2022 Kia Forte's front passenger-side lower control arm fractured completely while driving normally, with no collision or impact involved. The break caused your suspension to misalign, damaged the CV axle, and created uneven tire wear, which made the vehicle harder to control safely. Kia denied the warranty claim and blamed external forces, but provided no physical evidence or documentation to support that claim. The dealer may need to replace the fractured control arm and inspect or repair the CV axle and suspension alignment.

Your steering wheel may have been unresponsive or acting unpredictably, which caused you to lose control and crash into a curb and rocks, resulting in injuries and total loss of the vehicle. You had recently had steering work done under a recall, but you're concerned the repair may not have been completed properly. The issue likely involves inspecting the steering system components to ensure the recall repair was done correctly.
