RECALLCampaign #22V426000

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles. A malfunction in the antilock-brake system (ABS) module may illuminate the brake lights, and allow the vehicle to start and shift out of Park without the brake pedal being applied.

Fix: This recall is replaced by NHTSA recall number 24V838. Vehicles already repaired under this recall will need to have the new remedy completed. The remedy includes updated HCU/ABS module software that prevents the HCU/ABS module from falsely reading pressure in the primary circuit. FCA has decided to do a two-Phase Campaign remedy schedule. Phase 1 began November 17, 2022. Phase 2 begin date has not been determined yet. Interim owner notification letters explaining the safety risk were mailed July 28, 2020. Owner notification letters were mailed on November 29, 2022. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC's number for this recall is Z48.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles. A malfunction in the antilock-brake system (ABS) module may incorrectly illuminate the brake lights and disable the ABS and electronic stability control (ESC). In addition, the vehicle operator may be able to start and shift out of Park without the brake pedal being applied.

Fix: Dealers will replace the integrated pressure transducer and update the ABS module software, as necessary free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 16, 2025. Owners may contact FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA's number for this recall is 94B. This recall replaces previous recall number 22V-426. Vehicles previously remedied under 22V-426 will need to have the new remedy completed.

Your 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a safety recall for the brake system, but the required parts have been on backorder and unavailable at multiple dealerships. You're experiencing warning lights for the electronic stability control (ESC) and anti-lock brake system (ABS), and your vehicle has unexpectedly shifted out of gear — both serious issues that affect your ability to stop and control the vehicle safely. The manufacturer has confirmed the part exists but won't expedite it to dealers. Getting the brake system repaired and having a technician diagnose the transmission shifting issue will be necessary.

Your brake light won't turn off, and your service, seat belt, brake, and air bag warning lights stay on with a continuous buzzer sound. The dealer replaced your ABS module but the problem persisted, and there's no recall available for your vehicle. Fixing this will likely require diagnostic work to identify which sensor or electrical component is triggering all these warning systems.

Your 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee experienced a transmission display issue where the dashboard showed the transmission was in neutral even though you had the gear shifter in drive while sitting at a stoplight. This happened while a recalled brake system part was on backorder, and the dealer couldn't complete the recall repair. You're concerned that the manufacturer has taken too long to make the repair part available.

The HCU/ABS module falsely reads pressure in the primary circuit. The brake lights illuminate when brakes are not depressed, leading to risk of crashes. The car may be shifted in and out of park without depressing the brake, risking rollaway. The ABS is non-functional, a critical safety item standard on most vehicles that prevents crashes. The recall was issued NOV 7th 2024, over a year ago. The dealership states there are no parts available to fix the issue and the recall is listed as incomplete [Part 573 Safety Recall Report 24V-838]. This is extremely dangerous and unsatisfactory that the manufacturer will not remedy the issue. The warning lamps illuminated indicating this issue are "SERVICE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL" and the brake lights remain illuminated even when the brakes aren't depressed, including after the vehicle has been turned off. These warning indications first appeared on my vehicle within the last 2 months. The brake light issue started December 2024.

My vehicle was one that was showing symptoms of the current recall. It was still under investigation for recall at the time. That was in February, I have not been able to drive the vehicle due to the brake lights illuminating and never giving correct readings to other drivers. With small kids I do not want to cause a crash. There is still no solution or remedy for the recall while I have a car I cannot drive for 5-6 months. I cannot afford to just buy another vehicle. I have had to replace the battery due to the brake lights draining both batteries (there are two).

I am filing this complaint because Jeep/Chrysler has denied my reimbursement request for a repair directly related to Recall 94B, issued in November 2024, covering the ABS module on my 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Prior to the recall, in October 2024, I experienced failure of the ABS module and paid out-of-pocket to have the part repaired at a reputable independent repair shop. After the recall was issued, I submitted a reimbursement request with all supporting documentation, including the repair invoice and receipt, showing that the repair addressed the exact defect covered by the recall. Despite this, Jeep/Chrysler has refused reimbursement solely on the grounds that the repair was not performed at an authorized Jeep dealership. I believe this violates federal law under the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act (49 U.S.C. § 30120) and the related regulation (49 CFR § 573.13), which require manufacturers to reimburse owners for pre-notification repairs addressing the defect, regardless of where the repairs were performed, as long as proper documentation is provided. I am requesting NHTSA’s assistance in ensuring Jeep/Chrysler complies with its federal reimbursement obligations and processes my valid claim. I am prepared to provide all related invoices, receipts, and correspondence upon request.

I was sent a recall notice ( Z48/NHTSA 22V-426 ) and contacted the dealer to schedule. the recall is for the breaking system, and it took months to get an appointment, apparently bad breaks are not a concern? when I was finally able to get an appointment they claimed I had no recall? I described the issues to the service manager, and he said that I was experiencing the issue the recall was supposed to fix but they would not fix it as a recall, because they claim I do not have a recall despite getting more than 1 letter. the issue - the vehicle will not stop in and emergency situation. I have tried this at 25 MPH, and just slowed down, I have nearly hit other cars because I could not stop topping a blind hill. I have a long list of very scary examples. FCA says they will not add my vehicle to the recall list, so in case of a major crash or running over a child, I guess I will go public with legal backing. this complaint will also be noted that it was brought to your attention.
