Every time you fill up your gas tank, your Jeep jerks and then shuts off completely. When you restart it and try to drive onto the street or highway, it jerks for a few seconds before stalling again. You've had a diagnostic test done and replaced the canister, but the problem has continued for seven months. The fix may involve inspecting the fuel system components, including the charcoal canister and related sensors, to identify what's causing the repeated stalling.

I JUST FILLED UP MY CAR AND ABOUT 1 MILE FROM MY HOME THE CAR STALLED OUT WHILE MAKING A TURN. I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 15 MPH IN THE CITY. I ALMOST CRASHED THE CAR BECAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND I NEEDED AN ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP MY CAR.

AFTER RE-FUELING MY JEEP 2010 JEEP COMPASS UNTIL THE TANK IS FULL (NOT OVER FILLED) THE CAR DRIVES HEAVY; ENGINE STALLS AND ENGINE HAS STOPPED COMPLETELY WHILE IDLING IN TRAFFIC AND AT A INTERSECTION STOP LIGHT ON ROUTE 102 IN LONDONDERRY, NH OFF OF EXIT 4 OFF OF INTERSTATE 93. IT HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BRIEFLY HAS FLICKERED ON, HOWEVER, MY MECHANIC STATED THE WARNING LIGHT DID NOT SHOW IN THE COMPUTERS HISTORY. THUS CAUSING NO WAY TO ACTUALLY DIAGNOSE AND FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS IS DANGEROUS AS I HAD DIFFICULTY RESTARTING THE ENGINE AFTER EACH INCIDENT . HOWEVER, I WAS ABLE TO EVENTUALLY START AND DRIVE(ALTHOUGH WHILE THE GAS TANK IS FULL IT DRIVES HEAVY)THE CAR. IT SEEMS, THAT THE PROBLEM DISSIPATES AFTER USING THE GAS AND IT HAS NOT OCCURRED WHEN THE GAS TANK IS NOT FILLED TO ITS POTENTIAL CAPACITY. THE CAR HAS APPROXIMATELY 83,960 MILES AS OF TODAY, JULY 3RD, 2011. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND COVERED COST WISE/RECALLED WITH JEEP ACCORDINGLY. THIS HAS ONLY OCCURRED ON A FULL TANK OF GAS WHILE IDLING AT INTERSECTIONS. I KNOW THAT ON THE CAR GURUS WEBSITE MULTIPLE JEEP COMPASS OWNERS AND JEEP OWNERS IN GENERAL HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS SAFETY ISSUE.

INITIAL INDICATION WAS A CHECK ENGINE ERROR. MECHANIC TROUBLESHOT AND DETERMINED ERROR RELATED TO FUEL SYSTEM. REMOVED REPLACED SUSPECTED FAULTY GAS CAP AND ERROR CLEARED. WITHIN 62 MILES ACROSS 19 DAYS, THE CHECK ENGINE ERROR RE-APPEARED. MECHANIC TROUBLESHOT AND FOUND FUEL SYSTEM ERROR AGAIN. MECHANIC PROBED THE FUEL SYSTEM AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS A FUEL LEAK AND FUEL BREACH/PUDDLING DUE TO CORROSION ON THE FUEL PUMP. MECHANIC REMOVED & REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP TO CORRECT THE LEAK AND THE CHECK ENGINE ERROR MESSAGE.

WHEN FILLING UP MY GAS TANK (AFTER LONGER TRIPS 75+MILES) THE CAR WILL STALL THEN DIE WITHIN FEET OF LEAVING THE GAS STATION. THE CAR WILL BUCK AND JUMP FORWARD TO PREVENT ITSELF FROM STALLING / DYING AFTER THE FILL UP. USUALLY I AM FILLING UP WITH THE FUEL GAUGE 1 GALLON FROM EMPTY. I BELIEVED IT WAS JUST AIR IN THE FUEL LINES, BUT FOR THIS TO HAPPEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS WAITING AT A STOP LIGHT OR PULLING OUT OF THE GAS STATION, I AM NOW CONCERNED IT IS NOT JUST AIR IN THE FUEL IN LINES. PLEASE PROVIDE INFORMATION AS WHAT TO DO, AND FIX THIS! MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS WHILE IN TRAFFIC AND ITS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM!

I HAVE A 2010 JEEP COMPASS LIMITED BY CHRYSLER AND I HAVE NOT SEEN A RECALL FOR THIS SUV BECAUSE OF THE GAS TANK BEING EXPOSED. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS BEND OVER AND LOOK UNDER THE REAR BUMPER AND SEE HOW CLOSE THE GAS TANK IS. YOU CAN SEE THE FULL GAS TANK FROM 3 FEET AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE. I'M WONDERING WHY IT ISN'T BEING RECALLED NOW WITH ALL THE OTHER CARS WITH GAS TANKS THAT MIGHT HAVE A FIRE IF THE CAR IS REAR ENDED. I'M ALSO HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH AND HAVING A HARD TIME GETTING MY KEY IN AND OUT OF IT TO START MY CAR OR TO SHUT IT OFF. I HOPE MY CAR WILL BE ADDED TO THE LIST OF RECALL OR BUY BACK DEAL. THEY RECALLED 2009'S FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT MY SUV IS A 2010 AND CHRYSLER DOESN'T SEEM TO WANT TO RECALL JEEPS OF THIS YEAR.
