After you refuel your Jeep, within 1-2 miles the engine sputters, bucks (jerks), and then stalls completely. This has been happening every time you refuel for the past 6 months, creating a safety hazard since the engine dying while driving could cause an accident. I JUST GOT GAS AND WAS ABOUT TO PULL INTO TRAFFIC WHEN OUT OF THE BLUE MY ENGINE JUST STOPPED RUNNING. THE RADIO AND LIGHTS WERE STILL WORKING BUT WHEN I PUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL I NEVER MOVED. I HAD TO RESTART THE ENGINE JUST TO GET GOING AGAIN. THERE WAS NOT EVEN ANY WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD AND STILL AREN'T.
SUB-FRAME CROSS MEMBER IS COMPLETELY RUSTED AND DANGEROUS, CAR HAS LOST ALIGNMENT. LOST CONTROL BUT MANAGE TO STOP, CAR WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET MIAMI FLORIDA , ABS LIGHT, BRAKE LIGHTS AND 4X4? LIGHTS ARE ON.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP COMPASS. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEAT WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED SUDDENLY. ALSO, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED AND FAILED TO ACCELERATE WHEN DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
I FINANCE THIS JEEP IN 2014. ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR 2YRS. CURRENTLY MAKING PAYMENTS ON THE CAR. MY JEEP JUST STOP RUNNING ON ME. TOOK IT IN FIRST PROBLEM THE ALTERNATOR HAD IT REPLACE. THEN WHILE DRIVING IT STOP RUNNING AGAIN NOW I'M TOLD IT'S MY TIPM. WHICH IS GONNA COST ME OVER $1,000 TO HAVE THAT REPLACE. DID SOME RESEARCH ON IT. A LOT OF OTHER PPL ARE COMPLAINING BOUT THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE TIPM. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE BOUT THIS PROBLEM. TO MANY ISSUES WITH THAT SAME PART. I HAD MY JEEP TOW 4 TIMES.
WHILE ME AND FIANCE DRIVE DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT ABOUT 65-70MPH ON A HOT DAY, THE TRANSMISSION FLUID TEMPERATURE LIGHT TURNS ON AND WE LOSE ALMOST ALL POWER AND CANT GET IT TO GO. WE HAD IT LOOKED AT BY A DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE TRANS COOLER, TRANS LINES,AND TRANS FLUID. BUT THE ISSUE IS STILL HAPPENING. IT IS ALMOST GETTING TO THE POINT OF WHETHER WE SHOULD EVEN TRY TO GET IT FIXED OR WHAT WE NEED TO DO TO FIX IT. WHEN THE PROBLEM FIRST OCCURRED WE HAD ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR TWO WEEKS.
MANUAL TRANSMISSION WENT. *TR
MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING THE SPEED LIMIT WHICH WAS 70MPH. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR SLOWED DOWN TO 40MPH. IT WOULD NOT GO ANY FASTER. HE EVEN TRIED TO GIVE IT A LITTLE MORE GAS BUT IT STILL WOULD NOT GO ANY FASTER.THEN IT SLOWED DOWN TO 35 THEN 30. THERE WAS NOTHING YOU COULD DO. IT SOUNDED LIKE THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT. IT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS IN A LOWER GEAR AND WOULD NOT SHIFT TO A HIGHER GEAR. THE CAR THEN STARTED TO OVER HEAT. WE OPENED THE SUN ROOF, ROLLED DOWN THE WINDOWS AND TURNED OFF THE AC. WE EVEN TURNED THE HEAT ON AS RECOMMENDED IN THE MANUAL BUT NO LUCK. WE ENDED UP HAVING TO STOP. ON THE INTERSTATE THIS WAS HORRIBLE. I THOUGHT WE WERE GOING TO BE HIT FROM BEHIND. PEOPLE ARE GOING TO FAST AND EVEN THOUGH YOUR IN THE RIGHT LANE THEY DON'T SLOW DOWN BUT TRY TO GO AROUND YOU. IT'S THE PEOPLE WHO CAN'T GET OVER INTO THE LEFT LANE AND JUST ABOUT RUN OVER YOU THAT IS TERRIFYING. WE WERE TOLD BY THE CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP THAT THIS HAPPENED TO THE JEEP COMPASS ALL THE TIME. SOMETIMES 1-2 TIMES OR 2-3 TIMES. THEY WILL DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND FIX IT. HOW CAN YOU FIX SOMETHING AFTER ITS RUN THE TRANSMISSION SO HARD? MY THING IS PUT A NEW TRANSMISSION IN IT AND WHATEVER ELSE IT NEEDS NEW. WE HAVE A BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY AND I CAN BET WE WILL BE CHARGED SOMETHING. WHO IS TO SAY IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN, OR WHEN MY GRANDCHILDREN ARE WITH ME? I WISH I HAD KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WITH THIS JEEP I PERSONALLY WOULDN'T HAVE BOUGHT IT. IT HAS ALREADY BEEN PAID OFF AND DARN, LOOK WHAT JUST HAPPENED. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM AND HOW MANY TIMES AND WHAT WAS DONE ABOUT IT. *TR
THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH SHORTED OUT CAUSING THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO FAIL, TRANSMISSION TO SHIFT INCORRECTLY (STUCK IN WRONG GEAR), AND MELT ELECTRICAL WIRES INSIDE THE DASHBOARD. THE FIRST SYMPTOM WAS THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK. THIS CAN BE OVERRIDDEN WITH A RELEASE SWITCH. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR, THE BRAKES LIGHT FAILED TO ENGAGE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS PUSHED AS WELL AS CAUSING EXTREMELY POOR PERFORMANCE FROM THE TRANSMISSION. THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT PROPERLY, WHICH CAUSED SPEED AND CONTROL INSTABILITY. DUE TO THE ELECTRICAL SHORT IN THE BRAKE LIGHT MODULE, IT CAUSED SEVERAL ADDITIONAL WIRES TO OVERHEAT AND MELT. I HAVE SERIOUS CONCERNS FOR ANYONE ELSE THIS HAPPENS TO. I BELIEVE THERE IS A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW THAT WOULD ALLOW A FAULTY BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH TO HINDER THE OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE IN SUCH A WAY THAT COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. WHY DID THE SHORT NOT BLOW A FUSE? TYPICALLY, THAT SHOULD HAPPEN WITH AN ELECTRICAL SHORT. PLEASE INVESTIGATE. *TR
CVT TRANSMISSION CAUSING WHINE UPON ACCELERATION AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT 70K MILES. WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY REPLACED AT 70K MILES. *TR
ON FREEWAY, SUDDENLY FELT NO POWER. CAR LOST POWER AND WOULD NOT GO OVER 20 MPH. GOT OFF FREEWAY, PUT CAR INTO PARK, WOULD NOT GO IN REVERSE, STARTED UP AGAIN, SAME PROBLEM. RPMS GO UP, BUT NO MOMENTUM TO CAR EVEN WITH FOOT ON FLOOR ON GAS PEDAL. AFTER CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND KEY WAS TAKEN OUT, IT STARTED UP LIKE NOTHING WAS WRONG. CAR REPAIR COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. HAS HAPPENED ABOUT HALF A DOZEN TIMES SINCE THEN, AS LONG AS KEY IS TAKEN OUT, IT WILL WORK FINE. UNTIL THIS LAST TIME, LAST WEEK. CAR DIED AGAIN ON FREEWAY, GOING FROM 70 MPH TO 20 MPH QUICKLY. LIMPED IT TO CAR SHOP, WHO FINALLY WAS ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE - FOR AN ALMOST $800 REPAIR. CALLED AND COMPLAINED TO CHRYSLER WHO SAID BECAUSE I WAS THE SECOND OWNER AND IT HAD TOO MANY MILES ON IT AND WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND NOT IN THE RECALL....THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO! WILL FIX AND SELL - ALONG WITH MY OTHER TWO JEEPS - WRANGLER AND CHEROKEE SPORT, WHICH I TOLD CHRYSLER AS WELL. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT ON ANY INCLINE IN THE DRIVE POSITION WHEN SHE TOOK HER FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE PEDAL THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS INSTEAD OF FORWARD OR REMAINING STEADY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THEY FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BUT THE OWNER TOLD HER THAT THEY REPROGRAMMED "IT" BUT DID NOT IDENTIFY WHAT COMPONENT WAS REPROGRAMMED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 13,000.
