The car slammed on it's brakes on the off ramp even though I had plenty of time to slow down. It came to a full stop before it let me accelerate again and I almost got rear ended.
While driving 70mph on the freeway, the car’s emergency braking assistance activated twice for no apparent reason. This is very dangerous at such high speeds and could result in a serious accident if cars are following close behind. This car has not been inspected for this issue. A google search of this issue revealed many similar complaints that have not been addressed or taken seriously. A possible related warning message about “blocked forward safety” has appeared a few times in the last week.
The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Tucson Limited Edition. The contact stated that while driving at 25 MPH, he lost consciousness and crashed into a swing, curb, vehicle, fence, and pole where the vehicle came to a stop. The contact stated the automatic braking and collision mitigation braking system failed to engage. The contact was provided with medical attention. A police report was filed. There was no reported fire. The air bags were deployed. The vehicle was towed to a vehicle wreck auction site. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, who opened a case and informed him the system was working as designed and only recognized people. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was deemed a total loss. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000. The VIN was not available.
Sudden braking / collision warning. Approximately 10 times in reverse at a very low speed. 2 times in forward Drive (once at a very low speed & once at approximately 30 mph). Dash constantly alternates between warnings for Uneven Roads Ahead and Slippery Roads Ahead. I took it to Brookshire Hyundai service on 7/19/23. I was told that Hyundai is aware of the problem but doesn’t know how to fix it so just take my car home and check back to see if they have a fix in a month or so.
Driving on highway long distance on sunny days the radar becomes blocked disabling critical forward safety functions and cruise control. Numerous times this has caused a near collision due to the automobile malfunctioning. Many times my cruise control has just stopped working and my vehicle has rapidly decreasing speed, causing people behind me to have to slam on their brakes. My vehicle has also automatically braked on the highway when there was no one in front of me. these are just two incidences that have nearly resulted in collisions on the highway. This has been occurring since I purchased the vehicle in September 2022. Unfortunately, dealership has not been able to duplicate what has occurred.
I was pulling out of a parking lot when my auto-braking activated. There was absolutely nothing anywhere around my car. I was entering a 2 lane road with zero traffic on it at that moment. When I pressed the gas pedal the brakes stayed locked. I quickly pressed the brake pedal at which time it released the brakes. I was then able to accelerate freely.
The automatic emergency braking has numerous false alerts, several times each day. The problem seems to be worse when a vehicle travelling the same direction in a different lane slows. The problem also appears when the Tucson's own shadow shifts directly in front of the car near sunrise and sunset when longer shadows are present. The car will brake hard though there is no risk of forward collision. This creates a danger as vehicles behind my own cannot anticipate this sudden hard braking, thus increasing the risk of a rear end collision.
