While driving your 2014 Hyundai Tucson, warning lights came on and the engine suddenly lost power, forcing you to coast to the shoulder. Both an independent mechanic and the dealer diagnosed complete engine failure requiring replacement. The manufacturer initially offered to cover the repair under goodwill, but then refused because you hadn't completed Campaign 953 (an extended engine warranty program you were never notified about). Your engine will need to be replaced, which typically involves removing the old engine and installing a new or rebuilt one.

While driving on a busy state highway, your engine suddenly lost all power and all warning lights illuminated at once. You managed to pull over safely, but when you tried to restart the car, smoke came from under the hood. Your mechanic found that the starter was burnt out and your engine has seized, meaning it won't turn over. The repair will likely require starter replacement and engine work to address the seized condition.

Your engine suddenly seized and stopped completely while driving at highway speed with no warning signs beforehand. You were able to coast to the shoulder safely, but this created a dangerous situation. The owner believes this matches a known manufacturing defect involving metallic debris left inside the engine during production that can cause bearing failure. Addressing this will likely require engine inspection, bearing replacement, or potentially a complete engine replacement under warranty.

Your 2014 Hyundai Tucson's engine failed due to premature bearing wear and seizure, which your dealership confirmed matches a known defect covered under Recall 20V-520 and a class-action settlement. However, Hyundai denied your repair claim, saying your vehicle doesn't qualify under the recall—even though you maintain regular oil changes and the problem occurred during normal driving. You're requesting that Hyundai investigate why your vehicle wasn't included in the recall or expand coverage to your car. The fix would involve a complete engine replacement or significant engine rebuild to address the bearing failure.

Your engine shut off suddenly while you were driving, which created a dangerous situation. You discovered your car is covered under Hyundai recall 22v056000, but the dealership refused to perform the recall work. The fix will likely involve the dealership performing the recall service as required by Hyundai.

Your engine seized due to an oil leak that developed after 100,000 miles, with no warning lights to alert you beforehand. Hyundai is refusing to cover the repair under warranty because you cannot provide oil change receipts for the entire 4.5 years you've owned the car, even though you've provided some documentation and your regular service station has closed. The repair will likely require engine rebuilding or replacement to address the seized engine caused by oil loss.

Your engine has failed and needs to be replaced following a recall campaign (Campaign 966). Hyundai is claiming the engine failure could have been prevented with a prior software update, but you were never notified about this update by email, mail, or any other contact method. You believe Hyundai is responsible for the engine failure and is trying to avoid covering the repair by shifting blame to the missed software update.

Your engine stalled and shut down while you were driving on the highway, nearly causing a collision with a large truck. You've taken your vehicle to a Hyundai dealership to address this issue under a recall, but Hyundai Motor has denied the repair. The problem likely involves the engine control system or fuel delivery and may require diagnosis and replacement of faulty components related to the engine stalling issue.

Your engine started knocking and losing power while driving. You took it to a service center where they identified a recall issue, and you then went to the Hyundai dealership. The dealership said Hyundai rejected the warranty claim to replace your engine, claiming you hadn't serviced the car properly—even though you say you did. Since this is a recall issue, you believe it shouldn't be your responsibility to pay for the repair.

Your car lost engine power while driving and had to coast to the shoulder before restarting, and this happened repeatedly. The low oil warning light came on, and the dealer found your engine is burning more than 1 quart of oil per 1,000 miles. The manufacturer has been notified and is investigating, but you may need an engine rebuild or oil seal replacement to stop the excessive oil consumption.

Your 2014 Tucson won't start and requires engine work due to a recall issue. When you took it to the dealership in October 2024, you were told the engine needs to be ordered and installed, which could take additional time beyond the original appointment. The dealership has stated the engine recall won't be covered because your name is listed under the dealership name on the title, leaving you without a working vehicle.

The connecting rod bearing failed. The dealer has the car and has not provided me with detailed documentation as I have requested. I was traveling ~70 MPH on [XXX] in Maryland when the engine threw a rod. I could control the braking and steering, but had no ability to accelerate. I was able to magically go across 3 lanes of traffic and exit the highway to a safe resting place. I had the car towed to Porter Hyundai in Newark, DE. They inspected the engine and sent documentation to Hyundai. Prior to the event, no warning lamps were on. The "check engine" light came on as the incident was occurring. Hyundai Corporate and Bentley Huntsville are refusing to fix faulty engine in vehicle. Bentley Hyundai submitted a fake PA asking for Hyundai Corporation to pay for engine combustion cleaning. Hyundai Corporation and Bentley Hyundai Huntsville Alabama are not honoring extended warranties on known engine failure in their vehicles that are stalling on highways, catching fire and damaging other car parts such as catalytic converter, compressors and rod throwing of engines on highways. This is a danger to consumers and should be addressed.

Friday [XXX] I was driving my 4 year old to preschool. We were on the highway traveling about 55 mph. Without warning my car engine turned off. After coasting for awhile, because I couldn't pull over due to guardrails, I was able to get to shoulder of road. Vehicle was towed to local chevy dealership with inspection result of seized engine. car is available for inspection at chevy dealer, manufacturer has not inspected yet because I will need to have it towed the 35 miles to their dealership but they are aware of the situation. I didn't notice any symptoms prior to engine failure. This was a very scary situation for me and my child. I was so worried I was going to get hit by a car traveling behind me since my car was slowly coasting in the lane of the traffic and I couldn't get off of the highway right away because of guardrails. Once I could get off the highway, my car could only coast enough to get about 1 foot off of road which caused a hazard to other vehicles, myself, and child. On Monday, August 7, 2023, I was accelerating, using the gear shifter and then went back into automatic-mode and the lights came on and car just stopped. It wouldn't restart - there was no noise, but the battery seemed to be working as the radio, lights, clock, etc. were all working fine. I was travelling at about 40 mph. There was a small shoulder and I was able to pull off, but I wasn't all the way over. A huge storm was about to start and the sky was turning dark. Heavy rain and up to 80 mph gusts of winds. I had my flashers on but it was hard for people to see me. I was afraid someone was going to hit me. My car was towed to the mechanic where they told me the battery had died. I picked it up the next day and began to drive home. Less than two miles away, I was stopped at a red light and when I went to drive again the lights were on and car had stopped. I was able to start it one more time to get it over to the side of the road where it wouldn't start again. This time I was on a 6-lane road during rush hour traffic. The car had to be towed again and I had to call 911 to have a police officer come and set up his car behind me so I wouldn't get hit by the cars speeding by. The next day the mechanic told me that the engine had seized up and my only option was to have the engine replaced which would cost $8,000! The car only has a little over 100,000 miles and has been well taken care of.

Engine Failure with no warning at all. All recalls were resolved prior to the engine failure. I was on a 4 lane bridge that was 7 miles long over Tampa Bay in heavy traffic. The engine light started flashing, the oil light came on and there was a loud knocking noice. Traffic was going anywhere from 65-75+ MPH. I lost acceleration, had to turn on hazards to try to get over. It’s amazing that we were not rear ended and injured when this happened. The Tucson was running fine prior to the engine failure. The dealer notes display: 99947 - engine failed bearing replaced long block engine and road tested. The engine blew on 5/28/2023. The replacement was completed on Saturday July 1, 2023 when the dealer called to say it was ready. I had 99,947 miles on it and always kept up on maintenance and recalls.

While passing a vehicle in a passing zone, all of my dash lights came on simultaneously and the engine killed. My fiancee and I were traveling at approximately 57 mph. She was driving and had to try maneuvering safely to the side of the road. We couldn't get it completely past the white line on the shoulder however and put our flashers on to warn other vehicles. Her great uncle Jim picked us up and towed us home on Mother's Day. My vehicle is available for inspection. My fiancee's uncle Dani came to look at it the following weekend and replaced the starter in case that was the issue. That didn't fix the problem. At that time he suspected the engine possibly "froze up". It sat in our yard until we had it towed the following month to a licensed auto repair facility (Dennys Auto in Dresser, Wisconsin). They inspected the vehicle and stated the engine was bad and replacement would cost $6,500+. I have owned this vehicle for 4 months prior to this incident and have put on less than 4,000 miles. I didn't file a police report or file an insurance claim as it was not damaged by an animal or other vehicle. We could have been hit by the car we were passing or any vehicle that drove by us when we were disabled on the side of the road. At this time I don't have any invoices available to upload as my vehicle is still at the auto shop until early next week. I can get statements from all parties involved upon request.

On November 17, 2022, I purchased a 2014 Hyundai Tucson from Premier Motorcars Inc. located at 3110 W. Tennessee St., Tallahassee, Florida 32304. The vehicle was advertised on their website as available for purchase. When I arrived and inquired about it, I was taken to the back where it appeared to be getting detailed. There was no Buyer’s Guide on any window of the vehicle, anywhere on the vehicle, nor one anywhere in the vehicle. When I asked about it, I was told it was because it had just been used for a trade in, passed inspection, and being considered for purchase by another party. I took it for a test drive and everything appeared to be in good working order so I proceeded with the purchasing process since the salesperson lowered the asking price. Less than four months later, on March 3, 2023, while I was taking my children to school, my check engine and check oil lights came on simultaneously and my vehicle shuttered to a complete stop and would not start. I finally managed to get it to crank and barely made it to a nearby gas station. I had it towed to my mechanic and was told it needed a new engine. My payments for this vehicle commenced in February 2023. I’m financed for a current balance of $12,015.95 that I am still paying $232.00 per month (and $114 per month for auto insurance) for a vehicle that I cannot drive and cannot afford to repair. A repair that I now know is due to a recall issued on February 2, 2022: Manufacturer Recall Number 218/ RECALL CAMPAIGN 218/ NHTSA Recall Number 22V056000 that I was never informed pertained to my vehicle.

Dec. 14, 2018 while driving 50 M.P.H. my 2014 Hyundai Tucson engine: 2.0-L I4-di with 113,000 miles, made an awful sound then moments later, the car engine lost all power, lights and steering. I nearly crashed my car. I was fortunate not to hit the car in front of me who immediately after my engine failed, suddenly stopped to make a left turn barely missing this car, I then had to correct my skid then make an abrupt 90 right hand turn off the highway and up a steep driveway, praying it was enough of an incline to slow my car bringing my car to a safe stop. Unable to restart the engine, the key having failed to illuminate the engine lights again, I was forced to call and pay for the car towed back to the Laconia, N.H. Hyundai dealer where I purchased the car and within 2,900 miles before the catastrophic engine failure. After five days I called the dealership only to find out then that the Hyundai Tucson's engine was blown and needed to be replaced. I was told there were no new Hyundai engines available, due to thousands of reported engine failures of the Hyundai 2.0 engine and, I would need to purchase a junkyard engine with and pay for another warranty. I can only hope the seriousness of the 2014 Hyundai Tucson catastrophic engine failure hazard convinces the N.H.T.S.A. to force Hyundai USA, 2.0 L I 4 direct injection engine to recall all Tucson models with these motors, joining other 2.0 engines installed in the recalled Santa Fe's and Santa Fe models with the exact same motor in my car.

2014 Hyundai Tucson bought used with 20,781 original miles in November 2021, thru an estate sale. On December 01, 2021, took the vehicle to dealer for analysis on an engine knocking noise that would not go away by driving it. I then researched the problem on the internet, and read these Hyundai engines had bad engine manufacturing defects, and regularly had engine failures, with some blowing a hole thru the engine block a causing fires. After tests at the dealer, they stated it had “past” the engine knock noise test and I could bring in back at a later date for another test. They stated they could not do anything with it passing the noise test. I told him I could not use a car that was defective and not safe. I told him I knew Hyundai had settled engine failure lawsuits. No other attempts or offer was made. On 02/23/22, I took the vehicle to the dealer again for another engine knock noise test. I believed the noise was now louder and stronger. After being tested again, the dealer stated it past the test again, and they could not replace the engine without a failed test. The dealer stated to come back when it fails or makes a really loud knocking noise. I told him I did not want it to blow up on me or make me cause an accident on the freeway before they would act. They stated it needed to fail the noise test. I told them I did not like this at all. Was told to keep using it until it failed. On 09/22/22, I spoke to the dealer representative in person. He was very busy, I asked him to keep my engine noise case open on my car, as it was still making a loud knocking noise. He stated it was closed now. He offered no other further assistance on my problem, and started to talk to some else. I felt I was just blown off. Now, I guess they want the engine to blow up before any thing is done to fix it. I further believe they don’t care if it causes an accident. Even though they know of the problem of engine defects, they refuse to just fix it with another engine.

On 7/29/2022 we took a trip with a 2014 Tuscan from from Boise Idaho to Worland WY. About 2 hours past Pocatello in a town called Kemmerer Wyoming the vehicle started to knock in the engine. As this happened the Vehicle started to derate its self from 80 MPH to 50mph and wouldn't accelerate past 1500RPMs. We pulled over and checked the oil and found metal on the rag used to check the oil. Ran a code reader and it read P1326. That means The Knock Sensor Detection System is tripped. In 2020 they fixed the sensers on most vehicles using the GDI engine because they would have a faulty trip. The tell tale sign that it wasn't a faulty senser was the engine knock and metal in the oil. We drove two hours the night before and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. I would get oil changes every 3k to 5k miles. I checked fluids the night before when I left Boise. This issue came up with no warning. Turns out Hyundai has a life time warrantee on the GDI engine because they have major problems. They was a 1 Billion Dollar Law Suit against Kia/ Hyundai for issues during the manufacturing. This issue applies to the Hyundai Sonata, Santa Fe, Tucson and Kia Optima, Rio ,Sorento ,Soul and Sportage. Make sure to call Hyundai/Kia and they should replace the engine free of charge or give you a option to trade even if you DO NOT have a warranty. I attached a link that should prove to be helpful in researching this issue. https://www.safetyresearch.net/hyundai-kias-billion-dollar-engine-problem-that-broke-the-nhtsa-civil-penalty-barrier/

56k ish miles on my car, 2nd owner. Oil pressure light flickered on and off about .5 miles from home after 20 mile highway drive, steady on when pulled into driveway. Turned off car immediately. Have noticed excessive oil consumption but check and top off frequently. Topped off less than 200 miles prior. About halfway or less since last oil change mileage wise from what I recall. Checked oil and about halfway between bottom and top markers on dipstick. Took to dealer Monday (.8 miles from home). Oil light did not come back on. Dropped off. Dealer said light came on shortly after driving. Said problem could be caused by “aftermarket” oil filter aka not a OEM filter. Said would do oil & filter change to see if resolved. Yesterday (Thursday) said oil & filter change complete & oil light not on. Reiterated previously mentioned concern of engine failure and potential accident. Service advisor said hyundai will not entertain engine replacement unless oil consumption gets documented. Oil consumption test to be completed after 1000 miles or until low oil levels noticed/oil pressure light illuminates. Will pick up tomorrow to see what happens. Engine is covered under newly extended warranty if failure occurs. Service advisor says nothing else was checked internally, spark plugs, etc. as this would incur engine being taken apart and extra charges prior to hyundai “entertains” covering engine replacement etc. Although no failure has occurred yet I’m worried something will and it will result in something potentially catastrophic for not only the engine/car but myself.

Upon further inspection, the dealer told me that the engine is dead and to replace it would cost 15K. I have 121K miles on the car and Hyundai's warranty ends at 120K. They refused any coverage and I am expected to cover the expense.

Acquired vehicle in November 2021, with 20,718 miles. I noticed a small knocking noise coming from engine area, but discounted any major problem due to the fact it only had 20k miles. After using the car for two weeks, and researching this engine knock noise, I discovered there is a long history of engine failures due to faulty internal engine components on this type of engine. I took it to the Hyundai dealer to diagnose the problem, and was informed the knock was normal and had past the “engine noise test”. They stated there is no open recalls for this vehicle, and that I should go back if the noise increases. I feel this vehicle is now unsafe to drive because the engine has to basically fail, and thus place my family’s safety at risk and even possibly cause an accident or engine fire, in order for it to be fixed by the dealer. I believe this model year and engine type needs to be investigated and be recalled, as many other vehicles with this same exact engine have had this same problem, resulting in total engine failures, near accidents and even fires. I have read there are even lawsuits on this dangerous engine defect.

WHILE DRIVING THE TUCSON WALKING DEAD EDITION WE NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE WAS MAKING A GRINDING NOICE AND HAD TROUBLE ACCELLERATING. WE EVEN TRIED TO SHIFT IT AND STILL HAD PROBLEMS. WE DROVE IT RIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM THEY HAD TO CHECK THIS OUT. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS EVEN ON. THEY CALLED A COUPLE DAYS LATER AND TOLD ME THEY HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE ENGINE.

MY 2014 HYUNDAI TUCSON'S ENGINE BURNED OIL AND NOW THE ENGINE IS COMPLETELY DESTROYED AT ONLY 108,000 MILES. I RESEARCHED AND FOUND THAT THIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL HAS THE SAME ENGINE AS MY WIFE'S RECALLED 2014 HYUNDAI SONATA. HER CAR IS ALSO BURNING OIL AND IS NOW GOING THROUGH TESTS TO DETERMINE IF THEY NEED TO REPLACE HER ENGINE. IN THE MEANTIME I HAVE A CASE NUMBER WITH HYUNDAI. HYUNDAI CAN'T ANSWER WHY MY MODEL HASN'T BEEN RECALLED YET. I LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND A PRIVATE FACEBOOK PAGE OF OTHER HYUNDAI TUCSON OWNERS WITH BLOWN ENGINES. IF MY CAR WAS RECALLED LIKE MY WIFE'S CAR I WOULD STILL BE UNDER WARRANTY AS THEY EXTENDED HER TO 120,000 MILES DUE TO RECALL. MY CAR IS 8000 MILES OUT OF THE WARRANTY WHEN MY ENGINE BLEW. WE'RE STILL WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM HYUNDAI CORPORATE AS TO WHAT WILL HAPPEN WITH MY CAR. MEANWHILE STILL PAYING A LOAN ON A CAR I CAN'T DRIVE. DISGUSTED AND FURIOUS ARE JUST THE BEGINNING OF HOW I FEEL.

VEHICLE ENGINE SHUT DOWN 2018 MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND. HYUNDAI SERVICE CENTER RAN A COMPRESSION TEST AND SCOPED THE ENGINE AND FOUND THE CYLINDER WALLS SCORED. PRIOR TO THIS BACK IN 2016 ANOTHER ENGINE ISSUE REGARDING THE ENGINE CARRYING HARNESS WAS ADDRESSED & FIXED. LESS THAN 6 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING VEHICLE BRAND NEW IN NOV 2013/I AM THE 1ST & ONLY OWNER, I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE IN THE SPRING AT IT CUTOFF. I REACHED OUT TO THE RACINE WI HYUNDAI SERVICE CENTER OVER A YEAR IN ORDER TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS HAPPENING, THE VEHICLE TURNED OFF MULTIPLE TIMES OVER THAT YEAR AS WELL AS MY TOWING THE VEHICLE TO HYUNDAI MULTIPLE TIMES BEFORE ISSUE WAS FOUND & FIXED I HAVE BEEN ADVISED THAT THE SPECIFIC ENGINE IN MY VEHICLE WAS RECALLED BUT SOMEHOW MY VEHICLE DID NOT MEET THE ENGINE RECALL QUALIFICATION. HOW? WHEN BEFORE I CAN EVEN FINISH PAYING OFF THE VEHICLE THE ENGINE HAS HAD 2 DIFFERENT PROBLEMS WITH THE 2ND PROBLEM RENDERING THE ENGINE USELESS. 6 MONTHS AFTER BUYING THE VEHICLE BRAND NEW, IT STARTED CUTTING OFF

NOTICED AN ENGINE KNOCKING NOISE AND SLIGHT LURCHING OF CAR AFTER A COLD START. TOOK IT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS AND MAINTENANCE AND THEY TOLD ME I WOULD NEED TO REPLACE MY SHORT BLOCK FOR FIVE OR SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS VERY SOON OR MY ENGINE WOULD SEIZE UP. THEY MENTIONED THAT MY CAR'S SYMPTOMS WERE IDENTICAL TO THOSE OF THE HYUNDAI MODELS THAT HAVE A RECALL FOR THEIR ENGINES, NAMELY THICK OIL WITH DEBRIS IN IT. MY 2014 TUCSON USES THE EXACT SAME ENGINE AS THE ONE CURRENTLY BEING RECALLED SO I THINK IT'S JUST A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL ENOUGH COMPLAINTS ACCUMULATE THAT THE TUCSON IS RECOGNIZED AS BEING EFFECTED BY THE SAME ISSUE AS THE OTHER MODELS USING THIS ENGINE.

WHILE DRIVING THE CAR AT 55 MPH, THE ENGINE DIED COMPLETELY AND I LOST ALL CONTROL OF THE CARS FUNCTIONS. IT COULD NOT BE THAT THE BATTERY DIED, SINCE EVEN THOUGH THE CAR WOULD NOT START BACK UP, THE LIGHTS, NAVIGATION AND RADIO WE ALL STILL ON AND WORKING. I THOUGH IT WAS A STRANGE AND DANGEROUS SITUATION BUT FIGURED IT WAS A ONE TIME OCCURRENCE. THIS HAPPEN ON SEPTEMBER 9TH OF 2016. SINCE THEN, THE CAR HAS DIED WHILE IN MOTION 4 MORE TIMES, BECOMING MORE FREQUENT AFTER EACH OCCURRENCE. I TOOK MY CAR IN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT AND THEY KEPT IT OVERNIGHT. I ALREADY HAD SOMEONE AT AN ADVANCED AUTO PARTS STORE TEST MY BATTERY, ALTERNATOR AND STARTER, AND ALL OF THOSE CHECKED OUT FINE. I SHOULD ALSO MENTION THAT WHENEVER THE CAR DID DIE WHILE I WAS DRIVING, THERE WAS NO WARNING THAT IT WAS GOING TO DIE AND NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON BEFORE AFTER IT WOULD DIE. THE VEHICLE WOULD ALWAYS START UP AGAIN AFTER WAITING A FEW MINUTES. I HAVE BEEN LUCKY THAT EACH TIME IT HAS HAPPENED I WAS NOT ON THE HIGHWAY OR IN ANY DANGER OF HITTING SOMEONE, BUT I GUESS I WAS JUST LUCKY FOR THAT. AFTER TESTING THE CAR, I WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR AND THEIR TESTING OF THE COMPUTER REVEALED THAT NO PROBLEMS HAD OCCURRED. THIS IS MOST LIKELY DUE TO NO WARNING LIGHTS COMING ON WHEN IT HAPPENED SO WHEN THEY TESTED IT, NOTHING APPEARED SAYING THE CAR HAD DIED. THEY WERE TOTALLY FINE WITH GIVING ME THE CAR BACK AFTER NOT BEING ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM, EVEN AFTER I TOLD THEM THEY ARE ALLOWING ME TO GET BEHIND THE WHEEL OF A DANGEROUS VEHICLE. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME FROM THE DEALERSHIP YESTERDAY AND TO WORK TODAY WITHOUT EXPERIENCING ANY NEW PROBLEMS SO I AM HOPING THAT THE ISSUE HAS BEEN RESOLVED SOMEHOW. IF THIS HAPPENS AGAIN I KNOW I WILL NOT BE BRINGING IT BACK TO THAT SERVICE CENTER.
