Multiple critical mechanical and safety issues have occurred with my 2018 Hyundai Sonata Sport. The vehicle has experienced persistent engine misfire, a severe oil leak, emissions system failure, and extensive paint deterioration. A certified technician confirmed an active oil pan leak with no dashboard warning lights, posing a fire and stalling hazard.

When I bought the car from Mathews in Marion Ohio the car looked like it was already in some form of accident due to a previous owner and I was unaware what caused the accident or any other problems with the vehicle upon buying. I was not presented with a carfax. I have electrical tape at the bottom of my bumper and there’s a problem with acceleration.

I noticed that there was a check engine light on and I took it to autozone to have it checked out, they told me that it was coming back with the code of an o2 sensor. I thought nothing of it until it started not wanting to start right. On July 1, 2023 I took my car in to the dealership for an oil change and they never said anything about why my car was doing a delayed start.

Hyundai boosted about their emergency response system included with my vehicle and charged extra. They failed to tell me that they were discontinuing the system. If I crash and need assistance bc I'm unconscious, I won't get it.

We drive a 2018 Hyundai Sonata with Hyundai Quartz White Pearl (W8) paint. It has 62000, so just out of regular warranty. Last week I noticed that we were missing a huge chunk of paint on the roof.

Purchased a certified pre-owned 2018 Hyundai Sonata - found out recently the car is burning/losing oil- A few weeks after having an oil and filter change my oil warning light started flashing while driving.. Checked engine oil and could not believe that oil was almost empty.. Major concern is for major engine malfunction and possible locking up while driving- which could be fatal !!!

I purchased my 2018 Sonata on 10/23/21 from South Point Austin with 30-35k miles on it. In the year of owning it, I've had 3 manufacture issues occur. Once on 12/31/20, there was an issue where my car detected an issue, and my maximum speed was 30 MPH while I was on the interstate.

My starter failed after 35,683 miles leaving me stranded in a parking lot at night. The life expectancy for a starter is between 100,000and 150,000 miles. Hyundai replaced the part at a cost of $1,139 which is way above what it normally costs to replace a starter.

For now the fifth time in the last 16 months the HEV light and engine light has lit up while the car jerks and sputters and dies. Below is the incident report that I filed on or about August 8, 2022. Again at the end of the day yesterday on October 20, 2023 the same issues still arise for the fifth time.

For the fourth time the HEV light (and others) has come on and the dash has lit up while I was driving, with the last three times leaving us stranded in dangerous road situations with little or no power. The light first came on in July 2020 at 40,089 miles.

On the way home from the produce store today, the engine seemed to stall or seize while I was driving and the car reacted in a jerky manner. I kept going, as I was close to home, but could only travel about 20 MPH, and it would periodically feel as if it were about to conk out. Check engine light came on at this point.

Excessive oil consumption. I am routinely getting notifications of low oil about 1,000 miles before the oil change is due. When I bring it in for an oil change it is nearly empty.

When starting car warning lights came on for ABS, AEB, Cruise Control. Cruise control is locked out and not working due to these warnings.

⸻ In early 2024, I brought my vehicle to a Hyundai dealership due to rapid oil loss. I reported having to refill the oil weekly and suspected a leak. They diagnosed a cracked oil pan, claimed to fix it, and returned the car.

When driving the car on the highway - "check engine - hybrid system" warning lights come on and indicate hybrid system issue and to shut car off immediately. Extreme safety issue as the car goes from highway speeds to 35MPH almost instantly.

when the car is cold it would not start. I checked what the problem can be online and it turns out that there are a lot of out cars with the same problem. The problem is starter.

UNKNOWN— Engine has been making noises, vehicle keeps breaking down (ENGINE ISSUES, alleged starter) and Hyundai dealerships keep ignoring and not documenting my complaints and passed the vehicle for all inspection after others have documented some of my complaints that I brought to them.

Accelerator malfunctioned as I removed my foot to hit the brakes. The speed increased. When attempted to hit brakes, would not brake.

One of my continental pure contact tires failed at highway speed at 4,926 miles. All four tires were purchased new from my dealer on 11/25/20. Mileage at that time was 47,314.

I was traveling on the highway with no existing problems. I drove off my intended exit when suddenly my vehicle jerked really hard, check engine light started blinking and my car started slowing down almost to a complete stop. didn't know what to do so I just kept driving as the car kept jerking and slowing down on its own!

WE WERE DRIVING THE CAR LAST NIGHT ON CITY STREETS AND THE HIGHWAY, WHEN WE ENCOUNTERED A BAD SMELL COMING INTO OUR VEHICLE. WE FIRST THOUGHT IT SMELLED LIKE NATURAL GAS COMING FROM THE OUTSIDE AREA WE WERE DRIVING, BUT THEN CONCLUDED AFTER ANOTHER 5 MINUTES OF DRIVING THE CAR THAT IT WAS OUR CAR THAT WAS MAKING THE BAD ODOR OR SMELL. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD, AND SHUT THE ENGINE IN THE CAR OFF. I LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD OF THE CAR TO SEE IF ANYTHING WAS BURNING OR IF SOMETHING LOOKED LIKE IT WAS VERY HOT. I DID NOT DETECT ANYTHING WRONG UNDER THE HOOD. THE COOLANT WAS FINE, AND THE MOTOR OIL WAS GOOD. SO THEN WE GOT BACK IN THE CAR, AND THE SMELL WAS STILL THERE. WE NOTICED THE CELL PHONE WAS SITTING ON THE "SELF" CHARGER THAT THIS CAR HAS AS A FEATURE. WE TOOK THE CELL PHONE OFF OF THIS AREA WHERE IT CHARGES, AND NOTICED THE TOP RUBBER AREA WAS VERY VERY WARM OR HOT TO THE TOUCH. SO WE CONCLUDED THIS HAD TO BE THE AREA THAT WAS CAUSING THIS CAUSTIC SMELL THAT WE WERE BREATHING FOR ABOUT 15-20 MINUTES OF DRIVING. THE TOP SURFACE OF THIS RUBBER PAD AREA DID NOT LOOK BURNT OR DESTRUCTED, SO IT MUST BE UNDERNEATH THIS AREA THAT WHATEVER IS RECHARGING THE CELL PHONES, MAYBE A BATTERY OF SOME SORT, IS NO GOOD. WE WERE AFRAID IT WOULD START A FIRE THE SMELL WAS SO STRONG. SO AFTER A FEW MORE MINUTES, WITHOUT THE CELL PHONE RECHARGING ON THIS AREA, THE SMELL STARTED TO GO AWAY. SO THAT IS WHY WE ARE DEDUCTING THIS MUST BE THE PROBLEM AREA. AND IT COULD BE A SERIOUS ONE. I DROVE THE CAR TODAY, AND THE "STRONG" SMELL DID NOT COME BACK. BUT YOU CAN STILL SMELL THE RESIDUE SMELL FROM LAST NIGHT'S PROBLEM THAT OCCURRED.

TRUNK LATCH BROKE. ITS A KNOWN ISSUE BY HYUNDAI ON 2017 & 2018 MODELS.

WHILE DRIVING CRASH WARNING, ABS, TRACK AND CHECK BRAKES WARNING LIGHTS WOULD COME ON. HYUNDAI DEALER INITIALLY REFLAGGED ECO BUT LIGHTS CAME BACK. DEALER HAD CAR FOR SEVERAL DAYS AND AFTER CHECKING WITH HYUNDAI TECH CENTER AND GOT TEST CODES C2402 C1741 AND C1360 AND SYSTEM FOUND CONNECTION AT ABS MODULE. ALLEGED FIX WAS TO REPAIR ABNORMAL CONNECTION / CONNECTOR AT ABS MODULE. CAR IS HYUNDAI SONATA 2 LITER TURBO WITH 19639 MILES WHEN BROUGHT TO DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND REPAIR. WE HAVE PICTURES OF ERROR LIGHTS ON OUR CELL PHONE.

MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE CAR STARTED TO BUCK AND WOULDN'T ACCELERATE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND SHE PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY. SHE CALLED HYUNDAI AND THEY TOLD HER NOT TO DRIVE THE CAR AND TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP. WE WERE THEN TOLD BY HYUNDAI THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM. THEY INSTALLED A KNOCK SENSOR WIRING HARNESS AND SAID THEY HOPE THAT DOES THE TRICK BUT IT COULD NEED A WHOLE NEW ENGINE. EXPECTED REPAIR TIME IS 6 WEEKS SINCE PARTS ARE ON BACKORDER. WE HAVE SINCE SPOKEN TO SEVERAL DEALERSHIPS AS WELL AS CONSUMERS AND THERE ARE SO MANY COMPLAINTS THAT SOME PEOPLE HAVE BEEN WITHOUT THEIR CARS FOR MONTHS.

The lane departure warning sound does not have adequate volume and there is no option or software adjustment to increase this volume according to hyundai corporate or my local dealer service department.

I BOUGHT MY 2018 SONATA IN JANUARY 2018. I HAVE NOTICED THAT IT TENDS TO HESITATE WHEN MAKING TURNS ESPECIALLY RIGHT TURNS. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS RANDOMLY WHEN ACCELERATING FROM STOP OR SLOW MOTION. LAST WEEK, I SLOWED DOWN TO TAKE A NEAR 90 DEGREE LEFT TURN. THE SPEED LIMIT IS 25 MPH ON THIS ROAD. THERE WAS A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME - SO, I MAINTAINED A SAFE SPEED AND DISTANCE. AFTER TAKING THE TURN, MY CAR SKIDDED VERY SUDDENLY AS I WAS COMING OUT OF THE CURVE, AND IT WAS ALL I COULD DO TO CORRECT IT AND PREVENT IT FROM HITTING A CONCRETE PILLAR OF THE FREEWAY PASSING ABOVE. THE ROAD APPEARED DRY AND THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME DID NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS. WHILE I CANNOT RULE OUT THE PRESENCE OF BLACK ICE, I WAS CONCERNED THAT ONE OF THE WHEEL MAY HAVE LOCKED UP EITHER DUE TO HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE PROBLEMS. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER TODAY. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT CHECKED OUT CAR AND THEY DID NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS. I AM REPORTING THIS INCIDENT SINCE I NOTICED THAT SOME OTHER OWNER COMPLAINED OF ENGINE HESITATION WHEN TAKING TURNS. PERHAPS, OTHER OWNERS MAY BE EXPERIENCING SIMILAR ISSUES.

I looked up my car on carfax and it shows a 3 different odometer readings. on 10/14/19 it had 15.125 miles. On 03/04/21 it had 61,284 miles.

This vehicle consumes one quart of oil every 1000 miles. I have documentation to prove it. Hyundai has done their own asessments and claimed that it consumes less.

This car will not start when it is cold. I have only had this car for over one year and four months. The car ran perfect up until we began to have extreme cold weather.

For the past 3 Oil changes, I find myself having to add 5 quarts of oil to my car after driving over 1,000 miles from getting my oil change. This third oil change I have added 15 quarts of oil to my car due the check oil light comes on. When I first purchased this car in March 2021, I didn’t experience this issue.

The overhead console does not close. It does it all the time. I know there was a recall on it but not on the 2018 model.

The trunk latch released failed and is malfunctioned. My safety along side passengers were put at risk when the car experienced a flat tire on the highway far from city limits in extremely hot weather and trunk was not opening to get to spare tire/tools. Trunk had to be forcefully opened after hours to finally to get to spare/tools.

I am affected by the new decal in regards to my trunk latch and it urgently needs to be fix. It would not open after multiple attempts and a few days later it started working again and now that it’s open it will not close

Trunk latch locking arm can break with few miles on the odometer. When the arm breaks due to it being plastic connecting to metal via a strong tension spring, the emergency trunk release lever is defeated and the trunk cannot be opened, or closed if it broke while open.
