2017 Hyundai Sonata Other Problems

The contact is a death investigator calling on behalf of the owner of a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while he was driving at an undisclosed speed, another vehicle failed to yield causing the front of the vehicle to crash into the front end of another vehicle. The events leading to the crash were unknown.

I heard a pop noise. My car started to smoke a few seconds later full fire. The whole dashboard radio was gone.

I purchased the vehicle in December and the same weak it began leaking oil the window won’t roll down and the car shuts down by itself. It caused me to have an accident and the dealership has repaired it 14 times with the same issue. They are forcing me to drive an unsafe vehicle I need to report this vehicle as unsafe

On February 11, 2022, I took my car to the dealership because my oil light came on. I was told I had no oil in the engine. So they said to get an oil change and that would take care of the problem.

I was driving north bound on I-95 north in Georgia when I heard a loud bang and then at same time looked out my driver side mirror when I see the cover of my antenna flying down the road, which was dangerous since it could have it a car behind me, a car could have run it over and gotten a flat time, or a car could have seen it and made it swerve and caused an accident.

Check Engine light on,, throttle stuck/revving high in idle. Vehicle lunges forward without touching the gas pedal. Difficult to keep brake applied to stop it from lunging forward.

My steering wheel has been locking on me for about a year several times I’ve almost crashed with my children in the car It seems to be getting worse and staying locked longer I used to be able to just turn the car off and turn it on and it go away back to normal but now it’s getting worse I did take it to a dealership and they cannot find anything wrong with it I’m reading so much bad reviews on this car and what it’s doing not safe at all I don’t even drive on the highway anymore I’m too scared I should not have to live like this

While being driven, the check in engine light came on. Next the battery light came on followed by the other lights on the dashboards. It then became difficult to accelerate and smoke began to come from under the hood.

I was driving on the interstate when I heard a long noise that sounded like a gunshot. I then heard a noise coming from the area of the sunroof like broken glass. I had the cover closed.

For the past several months, my vehicle has been burning oil. The oil lamp would only come on when the oil was completely gone and that would happen at least a month before I was set to get another oil change. This morning my check engine light came on for the first time and I was barely able to make it to work without my car stalling.

The engine is stalling and shut off at a traffic light. Using oil on a weekly basis. Gas mileage is not efficient at all.

The oil plug fell out and seized the engine. I bought the car and drove it lightly for 2 days through city streets and highways. Right before the engine seized.

My vehicle was purchased in 2018 and currently has 128,000 miles. I took it to the dealership because it was puttering and not holding pil. The dealership did some work on the vehicle.

Driving home car just shut off still had power to steer and brake but no engine. Pulled it off the main road and it leaked oil but still no engine. Already had the dealer replace the intake manifold at my expense despite hyundai knowing the plastic lever inside fails.

My car has cut off in the middle of the highway and street. I feel vibration under my seat and I was unable to start my vehicle. Hyundai repaired my engine and I am still having the same issues.

Several weeks ago, the trunk would not open. The latch was determined to be defective. I paid for a repair and replacement at a local garage.

At the beginning of March 2023, I observed that the white paint on the roof top is peeling off. Since Hyundai sent a extended warranty at the end of last year I took it to the dealership when I went for fixing a recall (Anti-theft software upgrade). They said that they don’t do paint job and asked me to call Hyundai US.

My Hyundai sonata hybrid has always experienced issues with a loss of power as well as warnings illuminating on the dashboard which also would result in a check engine light and occasionally a complete shutdown of the car.

My Steering Wheel Would Lock Up On Me Sporadically & my EPS & ESC Malfunction Indicator Light Will come on & don’t illuminate, but once I cut the car off & cut it back on my steering wheel will go back to normal & the warning lights will go off.

I was driving and the steering wheel completely locked up. I was unable to turn. I had to turn the car off then back on in order to reset the computer.

dealership has failed to fix the issue since aug 2021 this is my business ar im out of business because of this

Steering wheel sticks at about 6:00 position, it takes an extra effort to move the steering wheel to the left or right. While this is occurring I experience dangerous and excessive lane travel. I hear a faint crack coming from the steering column at about the 6:00 position and then it feels like the steering wheel is loosening up again.

My uses up a lot of oil, I have to put in oil a lot an now the engine in my car is gone it makes a weird noise in the engine, can't speed up an the engine is knocking.

After spending over $1000 to have my serpentine belt replaced, transmission and brake fluids flushed; I've attempted to open my trunk on multiple occasions and will not open. Dealership is saying it will cost over $700 to fix, with all the complaints this shows to be manufacturer issues.

Trunk latch works intermittently...only 3 year old car...I have called the dealership for repair...they have not or will not call back. Latch works sometimes...but other times will not open or other times will not stay shut.

The car was stationed in my garage, came home from shopping, hit the trunk button on my key fob, just starting hearing some clicking noises, tried to press the the truck release from inside, continue to hear clicking noises. I had a mechanical to look at it, they had to pull my seats in the back down to look inside the trunk and they said it look like a malfunction on the trunk box inside.

Paint chipped on it's own. In less than 1 year of having my vehicle I had to take it back to the dealership to have it repainted. Now that the warranty is over they don't want to fix the continuing issue.

My trunk latch mecanisum broke and it was troubling to think that my purse or luggage was in it or I could not get to my meds or a spare tire in the event it was needed. There is no way to get into the locked trunk accept to take the entire back seat out unlike most cars where you can pull a latch on the back of the rear seat and bring the seat down.

I brought this in oct 6, 2017 at win hyundai in carson. A couple week later, I am having tire pressure problems. The tires is sliding on the freeway and the street.

Sun roof flew off while driving, the metal framing was twisted and dent. Sun Roof was closed at the time. Pictures were sent to insurance company but no one has looked at it yet.

1.Sunroof disengaged from car. Glass falling from car. Glass could have landed inside car, killing or injuring driver.

My car is burning a lot of oil to the point I have no oil in my car and that’s bad

My trunk will not unlatch and open. Trunk opening buttons are functional, however the trunk will not open

Key is stuck in ignition and won't come out. Key comes out maybe a half inch but won't turn either way. Steering wheel is not in locked position.

Shark fin antenna came off

My engine oil consumption is more. I have driven 70 miles the oil comes from full to low level

My 2017 hyundai is not listed on the recall for excess oil consumption and I am trying to find out why it is not included. I have to add oil every week to my car and have to change the spark plugs every couple of months.

Check Hybrid system. Turn off engine. Driving one hour in 90 degree temperature and this warning appeared on dash with VERY loud warning.

The power steering stopped working. I am unsure if this is powertrain, electrical or something else. My wife was driving the vehicle without an issue and then the steering became very difficult to the point of not being able to control the car.

Trunk latch will not latch. Trunk will not close.

I just bought this car about 10 days ago everything was great until about 2 days ago, I started feeing my steering wheel lock for a little bit or get extremely loose. It did that a couple times through out the day and everything was fine. Next day about the same thing.

I have had my 2017 since July of 2017. Specifically, I have a petal white Hyundai Sonata sport. Over this past summer I started to notice that there was paint chipping on my roof directly above the passenger side window.

Bought car 8/30/20 on 9/29/20 engine light came on and went into limp mode. Friend came and 1st thing we done was checked oil. Car had 2 codes that came up.

As I am driving my steering wheel locked up. I am in lunch hour rush and my steering wheel is locked up. Very unsafe.

Hood does not stay open. Last oil change it slammed down. I heard there was issue with trunk latch.

The truck won't open an there is no emergency handle to open it my things are stuff in my trunk. Car is parked

Trunk won't open using key fob or dash. can't close it manually with key. The trunk latch mechanism is not working.

Truck latch initially would not open with out the key or dashboard option now will not remain close.

Trunk latch failed completely. Failure to release by key fob, failure to release from interior button, and failure to release from manual lock cylinder.

Antenna cap keeps coming off. Second time replacement. This is really aggravating now the warranty will not cover it.

While I was sitting at a red light my car cut off. After it turned of I tried stating it back up 3 times. First I tried once I put it in park once in neutral and finally the third time I was in park ad it started back up.
