A year and a half later exact same thing happened and again new mechanic says the alternator needs to be changed. BIG SAFETY ISUUE AS CAR DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF HIGHWAY WITH CARS GOING ALL AROUND ME TRYING TO AVOID ME. This is Second time the alternator has to be replaced with only 2000 miles on the car after the alternator was replaced the first time.

VALUES AT PRESSURE SENSOR CHANGED FROM 0.3 BAR TO 78.0 BAR; NO CHANGE IN SUPPLY VOLTAGE. SUPPLY VOLTAGE CONSTANTLY AT 14V. HYUNDAI HAS MENTIONED THAT THERE ARE NO ACTIVE RECALLS AND THAT THIS PART IS LIFE THREATENING IF IT FAILS - BUT SINCE THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED THEY ARE SHYING AWAY. ONLINE THERE ARE SEVERAL KNOWN ISSUES WITH HYNDAI AND HECU. SPECIALLY FOR MODELS BEFORE 2009. ITS HARD TO BELIEVE THAT HYUNDAI IS NOT AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND SEEMS LIKE THEY ARE AVOIDING THEIR RESPONSIBILITY AND PLAYING WITH HUMAN LIFE. WOULD APPRECIATE IF THE GOVERNMENT CAN DO SOMETHING.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SEVERAL INDEPENDENT MECHANICS WHO REFERRED THE CONTACT TO HERITAGE HYUNDAI TOWSON (801 YORK RD, TOWSON, MD, 877-387-5495) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,000.

WE PULLED OVER TO CHECK THE USUAL STUFF LIKE OIL AND ANTIFREEZE AND OTHER FLUIDS. BUT ALL OF THEM WERE OK. WE TRIED TO LEAVE AGAIN WITH NO SUCCESS. WE HAD NO POWER. THE ENGINE WOULD TURN OVER BUT WHEN WE TRIED TO PRESS THE GAS NOTHING WOULD GO. SO WE STOPPED THE CAR WAITED FOR A WHILE AND THEN THE CAR STARTED. WE COUNTINUED OUR TRIP CAREFULLY, BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON. AFTER WE ARRIVED TO OUR DESTINATION I WENT TO AUTOZONE TO CHECK THE PROBLEM. THEY SAID THE ELETRICAL AND CPU MODULES ARE DAMAGED. THAT OF COURSE HAS ME A LITTLE WORRIED. WE HAVE ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR A YEAR SO IT COULDNT BE FOR THAT REASON.

TL* THE CONTACT WAS REPAIRING A 2009 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE IGNITION WOULD INADVERTENTLY RESTART WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. THE STARTER MOTOR COULD BE HEARD RE-ENGAGING. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO DRIFT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, SHIFTED THE GEAR INTO NEUTRAL, AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE CORRECTLY. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES OF NORMAL OPERATION THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A NEW KEY CYLINDER AND IGNITION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE INSTALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. CAR STARTED AS USUAL AND I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET GETTING READY TO GET ON THE HIGHWAY. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR WOULD ONLY GO ABOUT 20 MPH AND REACH 1000 RPM. IT DIED SHORTLY THEREAFTER ON THE HIGHWAY FRONTAGE ROAD. ALL OF THE LIGHTS FOR ABS, BRAKES, CHECK ENGINE ETC. CAME ON BUT THE EMERGENCY FLASHERS WOULD NOT WORK SO I HAD TO KEEP PUMPING THE BRAKES SO NOBODY WOULD RUN INTO THE BACK END OF MY CAR. IT WOULD NOT RESTART SO I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALER. DEALER STATED VALVE COVER GASKET HAD LEAKED OIL ONTO THE ALTERNATOR AND RUINED IT. THAT IN TURN RUINED THE BATTERY. CAR WAS REPAIRED FOR $1400 INCLUDING THE TOW AND A RENTAL CAR. AFTER LOOKING AT HYUNDAI RECALLS, I NOTICED THE ONE FOR THE 2009 VERA CRUZ (NHTSA# 14V415000) IN WHICH 61,122 UNITS WERE RECALLED FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. IN RESEARCHING THE AFFECTED VALVE COVER GASKET, I FOUND THE SAME ONE WAS USED ON MY 3.3L ENGINE THAT WAS LISTED AS DEFECTIVE ON THE 3.8L VERA CRUZ ENGINE. IF THAT PART WAS DEFECTIVE ON THAT VEHICLE, WHY WAS THE SCOPE OF THIS RECALL NOT EXTENDED TO COVER ALL POSSIBLE VEHICLES THAT COULD BE AFFECTED? I WOULD LIKE THE COST OF REPAIRS REFUNDED TO ME SINCE HYUNDAI OBVIOUSLY KNEW THIS PART WAS DEFECTIVE BUT DIDN'T ISSUE A RECALL TO COVER ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES. *TR

ON 10/08/2009 MY 209 HYUNDAI SONATA WENT INTO AN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. AS SOON AS I PUT THE CAR INTO DRIVE IT BEGAN TO ACCELERATE. THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK AND I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL. I WAS ON A NARROW DIRT ROAD WITH LITTLE LIMITED OPTIONS AS TO WHERE TO STEER THE VEHICLE. I MISSED A BOULDER, GARAGE, AND TREE BEFORE HITTING THE SIDE OF A HOUSE. THE AMBULANCE WAS CALLED AND I WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE LOCAL EMERGENCY ROOM. I HAD A CONCUSSION, FRACTURED KNEE ALONG WITH A NUMBER OF BRUISES AND ABRASIONS. THE EMTS TOLD ME HOW LUCKY IF WAS SINCE THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY.. AN INTERNET SEARCH, INCLUDING YOUR WEBSITE, NOTES THESE PROBLEMS GOING BACK SEVERAL YEARS. TOYOTA HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND DID A RECALL. MY INJURIES WILL EXCEED THE LIMIT OF MY INSURANCE AND I WILL HAVE TO PURCHASE A CAR. I KNOW HOW LUCKY I WAS TO WALK AWAY. AFTER VEHICLE ENGINE WAS RUNNING THE STARTER MOTOR ENGAGED WHILE THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING. THE VEHICLE WAS IDLE PARKED THE SHIFT POSITION LEVER WAS IN THE PARK POSITION.THE STARTER MOTOR WILL ENGAGE ON IT'S OWN IN THE PARK POSITION AND IN THE NEUTRAL POSITION. THE STATER MOTOR WILL ALSO ENGAGE AND CRANK THE THE VEHICLE ENGINE IN THE DRIVE OR REVERSE POSITIONS THIS SYMPTOM DEVELOPED LATER. I HAD A CERTIFIED MECHANIC LOOK AT THE VEHICLE AND HE SAID THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS DEFECTIVE AND WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. I CHECK FOR RECALL INFORMATION ONLINE AND FOUND NO REFERENCE TO THE PROBLEM. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000.

IGNITION IS STICKING, KEY WILL NOT TURN ON THE AUTO. IN 2011 WE STARTED HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE IGNITION ON THE CAR. WE HAD BEEN TO THE DEALER FOR THEM TO SPRAY, RECUT THE KEY AND EACH TIME IT WAS A TEMPORARY FIX. IN AUGUST OF 2011 THEY REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH. AGAIN WE HAD SOME PROBLEMS WITH THE KEY NOT WANTING TO START THE CAR. IN 2013 WE WENT BACK TO THE DEALER FOR THEM TO RECUT KEYS, AND FIX THE IGNITION BECAUSE THE KEY WAS NOT TURNING THE CAR ON, YET AGAIN. IN 2014 THE CAR WAS STRANDED IN A PARKING LOT AFTER THE CAR WAS AT THE DEALER FOR THEM TO FIX THE IGNITION PROBLEMS. THEY CLEANED THE IGNITION OUT AGAIN. WE HAD TO CALL A LOCK SMITH TO COME AND WORK ON THE IGNITION TO GET THE CAR STARTED. THIS FIXED THE CAR FOR ABOUT 3 MONTHS. AGAIN THE CAR WAS STRANDED AT A BUSINESS. WE CALLED THE LOCK SMITH AGAIN AND THIS TIME IT HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. TO DATE: WE HAVE BEEN TO DEALERS 15+ TIMES FOR WORK ON OR REPAIR TO THE IGNITION. OTHER ASPECTS LIKE THE LOCKING MECHANISM, OR OTHER PARTS THAT ARE INVOLVED IN MAKING THE KEY TURN HAS NEVER BEEN ADDRESSED, I AM TOLD THAT THE COST WILL BE 250.00+ FOR AN ISSUE THAT STARTED BEFORE THE WARRANTY RAN OUT. *TR

PROBLEM WAS WITH THE SWITCH ON MY CAR. WHEN I TURNED THE CAR ON IT MADE A STRANGE SOUND FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS, IT WOULD ONLY HAPPEN ONCE OR TWICE A MONTH. WHEN IT BECAME MORE FREQUENT AND BEGAN TO MAKE THE SOUND A COUPLE OF TIMES WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN PARK, I TOOK MY HYUNDAI BACK TO THE CAR DEALER. THEY CLAIMED IT WAS THE STARTER. MY HUSBAND AND HIS MECHANIC SAID IT SOUNDED MORE LIKE THE SWITCH. THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ALMOST 500.00 DOLLARS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. MY HUSBAND BOUGHT THE SWITCH FOR ABOUT $15.00 DOLLARS AND HIS MECHANIC PUT IT ON. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS SINCE. I DO NOT KNOW IF ANY ONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM. *TR

TAKING MY CAR FOR THE FIRST OIL CHANGE SINCE I BOUGHT IT AND THE CAR STALLED WHILE IN NEUTRAL WAITING FOR AN OIL CHANGE. RESTARTED WITHOUT A PROBLEM. IT HAS ALSO TRIED TO STALL WHILE DRIVING SEVERAL TIMES SINCE, MORE FREQUENT THAN BEFORE. IT'S ALSO STALLED IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. MY CHECK LIGHT ONLY COMES ON FOR A SPLIT SECOND WHEN THE CAR TRIES TO DIE, BUT AFTER THAT, IT'S JUST FINE. BROUGHT IT TO 3 DEALERSHIPS THAT TOLD ME THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH MY CAR. I BOUGHT AN OBDII SCANNER AND FOUND TROUBLE CODES P0335 AND P0108. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AGAIN AND THEY STILL COULDN'T FIND A CODE. THE INCIDENT IS SIMILAR TO NHTSA ID# 10508953 WHICH STATED THERE WAS A GRINDING NOISE AFTER STARTING THE CAR. I EXPERIENCED THE SAME MALFUNCTION BUT SOMETIMES THE GRINDING DOESN'T STOP UNTIL THE ENGINE IS TURNED OFF. IT DOESN'T HAPPEN EVERYTIME THE ENGINE IS STARTED BUT I ALSO HAD OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH. A FEW TIMES THE ENGINE STARTED WHILE THE KEY WAS JUST TURNED TO THE "ON" POSITION. AFTER HEARING OF ALL THE IGNITION SWITCH PROBLEMS WITH GM VEHICLES, I THOUGHT THIS SHOULD BE HANDLED BY HYUNDAI AS A RECALL BECAUSE IT IS DEFINITELY AN UNSAFE SITUATION. I HOPE THE NHTSA WILL TAKE ACTION ON THIS MATTER. THE VEHICLE OWNERS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR DEFECTIVELY MANUFACTURED COMPONENTS NO MATTER HOW OLD THE VEHICLE. *TR

ON OCTOBER 27 2013, THE DASH BOARD LIGHTS AND THE BACK ILLUMINATING LIGHTS, GLOVE COMPARTMENT AND OVER HEAD LIGHTS WENT OUT, I TOOK IT TO A CAR REPAIR SHOP AND THEY CHANGED OUT THE DIMMER SWITCH, WHICH KEPT BURNING OUT,SMOKE HAS COME OUT OF THE DASH BOARD AND IT SMELLED LIFE FIRE, I PULLED OVER AND CALLED THE DEALER. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE I AM NOT ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR AT NIGHT AND I AM AFRAID THE CARE MIGHT CATCH FIRE. AFTER CHANGING IT OUT 4 TIMES, THE MECHANIC TOLD US TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER.WE DID TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND $700.00 LATER THEY STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IT, SO I HAVE FILED A CASE WITH THE CORPORATE OFFICE, THE CAR HAS HAD SOME ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS BEFORE, BUT IT HAS BEEN FIXED BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN RECALLS. THE DEALER DOES NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO AND THEY WANT US TO TAKE THE CAR SOMEWHERE ELSE. THE DEALER IS NO HELP, THEY SUGGESTED WE JUST BUY A NEW CAR!!! *TR

MY ESC OFF AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON. MY MECHANIC INDICATED IT WAS DUE TO A BAD BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH AS MY REAR BRAKE LIGHTS AND CRUISE CONTROL DID NOT WORK. HE REPLACED THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH BUT A COUPLE DAYS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. THE COMPUTER LISTED A DIFFERENT CODE, STATING THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH IS NOT COMPATIBLE, BUT THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS WORK OFF AND ON. AWAITING FOLLOW UP WITH MY MECHANIC AS HE WAS GOING TO CHECK WITH HYUNDAI.

A FEW DAYS AFTER THE IGNITION CYLINDER WAS REPLACED, THE SPEEDOMETER STARTED MALFUNCTIONING. MY WIFE DROVE THE CAR TO WORK. WHILE THE CAR WAS RUNNING, SHE NOTICED THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE WAS AT ZERO READING WHILE THE CAR WAS DOING AT LEAST 25 MILES PER HOUR. SHE TURNED AROUND AND DROVE AN OLDER CAR INSTEAD. OVER THE WEEKEND, I DROVE THE HYUNDAI SONATA AROUND BUT THE SPEEDOMETER PROBLEM DID NOT SHOW UP. BUT THE FOLLOWING MONDAY AFTERNOON, I EXPERIENCED THIS SPEEDOMETER PROBLEM FIRST HAND. I NOTICED THE CAR WOULD ACCELERATE FROM STOP WITH THE NEEDLE EITHER SLIGHTLY GOING UP OR NOT AT ALL. I WAS AT LEAST GOING 25 MILES PER HOUR ON AN EXPRESSWAY. THE NEEDLE CONTINUED TO BE STUCK AT ZERO UNTIL I HAD TO APPLY THE BRAKE, AND THEN MOMENTARILY, THE NEEDLE WOULD BOUNCE UP BETWEEN 20-30 MPH BEFORE GOING BACK TO ZERO AGAIN. *TR
