Owner Complaints (208)
While driving, your gas pedal stopped responding and the engine wouldn't accelerate, forcing you to pull over safely. When you turned off the engine, it wouldn't start again. A mechanic determined the engine had completely failed. The repair will likely require engine replacement or a complete engine rebuild.

Your engine completely shut down while you were driving on the highway with your children, leaving you stranded in traffic with no warning signs beforehand. This is the second engine failure you've experienced in this vehicle — the first occurred at 100,000 miles and the replacement engine failed after just six months. Hyundai has refused to cover either failure under warranty despite service center confirmation of the defects. A complete engine replacement or rebuild will likely be needed to restore the vehicle to working condition.

Your car suddenly started shaking while driving, and the shaking got worse when you slowed down or idled—so bad you thought it might stall. The mechanic found misfiring in multiple cylinders and replaced the spark plugs, but the problem continued. When the oil was checked, it was nearly empty despite being only 2000 miles since your last oil change, and the engine had burned up from running on too little oil. You never received a low oil warning light. The mechanic says your model is known to consume oil quickly and runs hot, requiring oil level checks and likely additions between normal oil changes. Don't drive the car further as it risks overheating or stalling.

Your engine caught fire and began smoking while you were driving. You had to remove the battery and exit the vehicle to prevent it from burning further. The engine has now seized and is no longer functional.

Your engine's crankshaft has faulty oil passages that are causing the connecting rod bearings to wear out rapidly. Your car completely seized and broke down on the highway. While a class action lawsuit has been established for this issue and agreed to cover engine replacement, Hyundai and the lawsuit representatives have declined to help with your specific case. The repair will require a complete engine replacement.

Your engine locked up six months after purchasing this used 2013 Santa Fe from a dealership. Your VIN matches Hyundai's recall for engine failure on this model year, but the dealership initially denied your warranty claim and later Hyundai Corporate denied it as well, despite maintenance records showing the car was regularly serviced at that same dealership. Hyundai has been fined over $200 million by federal regulators for mishandling this exact recall issue on Santa Fe models from this year. Addressing this will likely require engine replacement or a complete engine overhaul as covered under the recall.

While your wife was turning and accelerating, the check engine light came on along with other warning lights, and the vehicle lost acceleration power. After pulling over and turning off the engine, it would not restart or turn over—your mechanic determined the engine had seized. There were no warning signs beforehand like rough idling, unusual noises, or fluid leaks. The repair will likely require engine replacement or a complete engine rebuild.

Your engine shut down unexpectedly while you were turning at a red light and wouldn't restart. A mechanic found that your engine is locked up, meaning the internal components have seized and won't turn over. This will require professional engine service or replacement to get your car running again.

Your engine's connecting rod failed without warning, causing the engine to suddenly seize while you were driving in an airport tunnel. There were no warning signs beforehand — no dashboard lights, strange sounds, or other symptoms. A Hyundai dealer told you this problem has become common on your vehicle model. The fix will likely require a complete engine replacement or internal engine repair involving the connecting rod and related internal components.

Your engine is burning through oil much faster than normal, even with regular oil changes and top-offs. You don't receive a warning light, but your service representative reports that your oil level drops to empty between service visits. This likely indicates an internal engine issue that will need diagnosis to determine the cause and appropriate repair.

Your engine is consuming oil faster than normal, and a non-Hyundai mechanic confirmed there are no external leaks, suggesting the problem is inside the engine itself. Your vehicle is affected by a known Hyundai campaign (TXX8) related to this issue, but Hyundai says you're ineligible for coverage because your car has over 150,000 miles. Addressing this will likely require a diagnostic inspection to confirm internal engine damage and possibly engine repair or replacement.

Your engine is burning through oil between regular oil changes, sometimes requiring you to top it off weekly. While you've kept up with scheduled maintenance and professional oil changes, excessive oil consumption isn't normal and could damage your engine if the oil level gets too low. The fix will likely involve diagnosing the source of the oil loss, which could range from worn piston rings to valve seal issues.

Your 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe started experiencing engine problems about three months after you purchased it in September. The complaint doesn't specify what the exact engine issue is, so you'll want to have a mechanic diagnose the problem with a scan tool to identify the root cause.

Your 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport is burning through about a quart of oil every 7-10 days, which is unusually fast. You brought it to a Hyundai dealership, but this issue isn't covered under any current recall. The problem likely involves internal engine wear or a leak that's causing oil to be consumed rapidly, and fixing it may require engine diagnostics to locate the source and potentially repair or replace worn seals, gaskets, or piston rings.

The engine on our 2013 Santa Fe Limited has seized. We have maintained this vehicle with regular oil changes, breaks, tires, and anything else our trusted mechanic has recommended. While driving, the car slowed down considerably and was not accelerating. No dashboard lights appeared. This was during evening rush hour and became very dangerous. I pulled over to the shoulder and called for help. Once the tow arrived, we started the car and the check engine light came on. I checked the oil, it looked good. Tow truck driver took it to the dealership. Dealership said the car had no oil and that the engine has seized. I saw that there was oil before the driver took the car. So, that's not possible. The dealership said they added oil and that we would need a new engine. After discussing with the dealership my very expensive option, I have been researching the recalls and problems others have been having with the exact same thing happening. If there was no oil, why wasn't the oil light coming on? Why am I not due for an oil change for 1000+ mile? Putting my family at risk in a well maintained car that should last 75k-100k more miles is a huge problem. I will continue to fight this until myself and others receive the proper care from Hyundai.
Hyundai sent a notification a few years ago about a known manufacturing defect in the engine of the 2013 Santa Fe Sport. Stated that due to the manufacturing process of the engine, burs could be left inside that could disrupt oil flow causing it to stall. Stated a software patch would prevent this. The patch was completed. It didn't prevent this. While getting on the highway, during afternoon noon rush hour traffic, experienced total engine failure as soon as it reached highway speed. Got off the ramp onto the highway and immediately next ramp rolled to a stop at the bottom. Safety was put at risk because the vehicle lost it's engine getting on a freeway in heavy traffic. Hyundai dealers couldn't see the car for 2 to 3 months so had it towed to a non-dealership mechanic who stated the engine was a total loss with metal shavings in the oil drained from the pan. Pulled the head and found the oil at the top of the block to be in good maintenance shape but engine totally failed. No lights or warnings prior to the failure. As soon as the engine stopped there was alternator, oil pressure, and check engine light. Those came on after loss of engine Hyundai states they extended the warranty to cover this because it's a known issue but local dealerships state they have so many engine failures they won't be able to look at it until the end of September (we are at the beginning of July) and when they do get a chance to look at it there is a chance they could refuse to cover it. Contacted Hyundai customer support where they stated there's nothing they can do. Currently vehicle is being stored in my garage pending outcome of inspection that's months away.
While driving at highway speed (70 mph) on 4/2/2024, the engine without any warning suffered an internal detonation caused by a crank shaft main bearing failure. This caused a vaporization of all the engine oil which was ejected through the vehicle exhaust system in a massive cloud of smoke which blinded the 18 wheeler tractor trailer traveling behind our vehicle. But for the fast response of this truck driver our vehicle would have been rear ended at high speed. Note that Hyundai USA had issued a recall a few years back regarding this Theta 2 engine failure condition that DID NOT include our vehicle. Nor did Hyundai USA inform us at anytime prior to this incident that our vehicle was in need of remediation. Hyundai USA did replace the engine under an extenuating circumstance but has declined to repair our exhaust system components that were destroyed along with the engine at the time of this incident. They have also declined towing expense / dealership diagnostic expense on the exhaust system / replacement of vehicle splash guard damaged in this incident / loss of use / transportation reimbursement. Any and all costs to us associated with this incident.
I was driving on the backroads on my way into town. I passed a vehicle and then slowed down to regular speed, when I tried to accelerate again my car would not accelerate. It began making like a clanking noise before it completely slowed down and I pulled over. I turned it off right away and had a friend come give us charge thinking it was the battery. It turned on but when I tried accelerating it would not and began making a weird noise and white smoke came out of the engine somewhere. I had to get it towed back to my house. No check engine lights turned on or any warning lights. My car has not been drivable for a month.
I was driving along and without any notification the engine stopped running causing me to have to try to get the car off of the road. It would not start back up and I had to have it towed to my house.
Engine failed in the middle of a 2 lane highway. There were no warning lights on at the time of failure. Vehicle needed to be towed to owners home and engine is “ blown “ and vehicle has been rendered no longer drivable. Vehicle only had 128,322 miles at time of engine failure. Police needed to be contacted to assist with getting car out of lane.
My engine failed at an intersection exiting highway. Found out this is a recalled engine. Vehicle stalled, without any warning. Lights came on after the stall. Vehicle would not restart. Had to wait at intersection for tow truck. Vehicle currently at reed hyundai Missouri, under going a 6 month wait to be told crankshaft part of engine failed. Hyundai not wanting to cover their recalled engine.
The contact owned a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at an undisclosed speed, a gasoline and smoke odor was ventilating into the interior of the vehicle through the vents, after which the driver observed flames emanating from the engine compartment on the passenger side of the vehicle, prompting him to pull to the shoulder of the roadway. Upon exiting the vehicle, the vehicle became fully engulfed in flames. Local emergency services arrived and were able to extinguish the fire. The ABS warning light was illuminated. A fire report was filed. A police report was reported, and injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and deemed a total loss by the contact's insurance provider. The contact stated that though medical treatment was not sought, the driver sustained minor injuries to his right arm, and a passenger sustained a quarter-sized burn to his right leg. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 138,000.
Hampton Hyundai in Fort Walton Beach, FL is refusing to do an inspection for Recall Campaign 162 (NHTSA #17V226000). Per the safety recall campaign, if the engine is experiencing issues as described by the campaign, the dealership must perform an inspection and do repairs as necessary under the safety recall. Hampton Hyundai is refusing to do such an inspection. Instead they are quoting $16.9k for a new engine but refusing to provide any diagnostic results or answer questions on the status of the engine or recall. For a dealership to ignore a safety recall campaign is not simply an unethical business practice, it is a danger to the public and to Hyundai customers. The NHTSA must address a dealership that refuses to acknowledge safety recalls or do the necessary inspections and repairs to ensure the safety of those on the road.
After reading through many complaints on this site for the engines seizing up and burning excessive oil, I decided to add my complaint in hopes that Hyundai will issue a recall and fix the problem. My problem: 1. My car is burning excessive oil. 2. Low oil warning lights are not displaying on dash. I'm sure the lack of oil is the root cause of the engine seizures other Santa Fe owners reported. Oil does not register on my dipstick less than 3000 miles after an oil change and the oil pressure warning light does not illuminate. There is no visible leak on my garage floor where the car is parked overnight. I've started adding oil between oil changes. I added 2 quarts this month and still registered low on the dip stick.
its been three mos now with no waiting for ABS module overheat. recall came 2mos after purchasing car. We have a 2013 hyundai santa fe and it has done the same thing that is described in the engine recall for the 2012 the bearings have worn out and now our engine is blown up at 120000 miles and every one that I have talked to has said the same thing they should be held responsible for this its the same engine same problem
While driving, engine suddenly shut off. Engine light was on and I had to pull off road in traffic, almost causing an accident. Tow truck was unable to start car, while stating the battery was good The car has been at dealership for 4 months. Hyundai requested and was given all maintenance receipts from local dealership in NC, and dealership in AZ where the car was purchased.. Still waiting for word if Hyundai will replace the engine. The car sat at dealership for 2 months before they even looked at it, and was then determined the engine was frozen/blown. There were no warning lamps, symptoms or messages before this incident. Was not offered a loaner car, am unable to afford a rental.
I purchased this vehicle 07/05/2022. I have had regular oil changes and maintenance. I have all of my maintenance records. I went in for an oil change on 05/15/2023 and the mechanic told me that there was only 3-4 drops of oil in the engine. I called Hyundai of Nicholasville and they told me that there was nothing they could do until the vehicle showed signs of engine failure. I was driving home from work one day in August and my vehicle would not travel over 40 MPH. I had my vehicle towed to Hyundai of Nicholasville and it has been there ever since. The mechanic at Hyundai has been trying to get Hyundai to do a motor replacement. Hyundai denied the request. We are now trying my extended warranty. I have done so much research on the motors of this specific make and model of car (2013 Hyundai Santa Fa Sport) and I have found several articles and personal testimonies of early engine failure. From the time I bought the car and put it in the shop I had only had the car for roughly 13 months and done all car maintenance on time.
The car ran great when I bought it and did for about one month before it suddenly stalled and went into limp mode. The engine started making a loud knocking noise that kept getting worse. Only got to drive the car for a little over one month. It’s been at the Hyundai dealership for almost 3 months now still waiting on the rod bearing clearance test because there were 17 other Hyundais in front of mine. If for some reason they won’t replace it then it’s a total loss because I don’t feel safe getting back in it and especially my kids. I would rather just be reimbursed for the price of the car so I can buy a different brand all together. I don’t want the same issue to keep happening. The dealership I bought it at completely failed to mention anything about the theta II engine recall, they even told me it didn’t have any recalls and that it was a great reliable car. If I would’ve known the smallest thing about the recall I would’ve NEVER bought it, period! It’s ridiculous that a company would rather keep letting people die than fix the problem completely.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated while driving approximately 25 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact stated that she depressed the accelerator pedal, but the vehicle failed to respond. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact attempted to steer the vehicle off the roadway, but the vehicle stalled. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle and after numerous attempts was able to restart and drove the vehicle to a nearby service station. A mechanic at the service station checked the vehicle and found metal shavings in the oil filter and determined that the engine had seized. The contact had the vehicle towed to a dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V226000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The failure mileage was approximately 144,000.

The contact stated that while driving on the highway, the failure reoccurred with several unknown warning lights illuminated before the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the alternator had been replaced twice and the battery had been replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 144,904.
Our family 2013 Santa Fe was leaking fuel in June 2023. Hyundai of Chantilly failed to check on Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) that were related to our 2013 Santa Fe. TSBs are circulated to “General Manager, Service Manager, Parts Manager, Warranty Manager, Service Advisors, Technicians, Body Shop Manager, Fleet Repair”. Per Recall 180: Hyundai is conducting a safety recall in the United States to confirm the high pressure fuel pipe was properly connected by Hyundai dealers to the fuel pump outlet during prior engine replacement. What is the safety recall? Certain model year 2011-2018 Hyundai Sonata, model year 2013-2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, and model year 2014-2015 and 2018 Tucson vehicles had engines replaced. In some cases, during engine replacements, the high pressure fuel pipe may have been damaged, misaligned, or improperly torqued during the engine replacement procedure, allowing fuel to leak. What will Hyundai do? Hyundai dealers will inspect the connections of the high pressure fuel pipe to the fuel pump outlet for fuel leaking. If leaking fuel is detected, the fuel pipe will be replaced and properly installed with a new one. This procedure will be performed at NO CHARGE. My daughter mentioned to Hyundai Service Advisor, that the engine had been replaced under the recall last Spring 2023. Why didn’t the Service Advisor or Service Technician check the TSB? That should have been the first thing to do, especially when fuel lines don’t go bad that quickly. The level of incompetence at Hyundai of Chantilly Service Department is staggering. I paid over $1300 at Hyundai of Chantilly, most of which is covered by a recall. Now, I’m in the process of requesting reimbursement from Hyundai Motor America, which could take 120 days to process/receive. Why should customers have to do research to find out whether their vehicle was impacted by a recall? Hyundai should be fined civil penalties for failures in fixing recall issues.

I was driving down the highway on my way out of town with my son was going 60 miles down the highway in my engine field in the middle of the highway. My car just shut off and I had to cut through traffic to get on the side of the road. Praying that me and my son were safe. Then my car started smoking.
The contact owned a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that her husband was driving at 55 mph while depressing the accelerator pedal but the vehicle failed to accelerate and began to decelerate its speed. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The driver was able to park on the side of the road and turned off the vehicle. The driver was unable to restart the vehicle, and he saw smoke exiting the hood. The contact and her husband exit the vehicle safely before the vehicle was engulfed in fire. The fire depart extinguished the fire. A fire report was filed. The contact called the police department and also filed a police report and deemed the vehicle was a total loss The contact stated no one sustained any injuries nor sought medical attention. The contact called the insurance company and had the vehicle towed to a towing lot. The vehicle was not diagnosed. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
My engine randomly misfired out of nowhere one day and a rod threw through my engine. I have a perfect history of proper engine maintenance with scheduled oil changes included. There is a safety recall on my year, make and model or vehicle for premature wear of bearings that cause the motor to seize but my VIN number says I’m not affected. I believe I have been.
I have had my Hyundai for 3yrs and religiously get my oil changed from my mechanic. My car is consuming oil. I got an oil change a month ago and went to check my oil on my dipstick and it was VERY low. There is no oil leaks. My car vibrates when I sit at a light or am parked it also has bad acceleration.
Engine consumes oil significantly. After 3 month of oil change, most no oil is shown on the dip stick. I noticed that there is a recall for 4 cylinder engines but no recall for V6 engines. However, same issue is happening to my V6 engine. I am refilling oils every month.
I was driving down the interstate coming up to a bridge with barely any emergency shoulder in the pouring rain with my 7 year old son in the back seat when all of a sudden my car lost power and would no longer accelerate over 60mph. I pulled to the side of the road and had to have my vehicle towed. After I finally made it back home, I researched the issue and found that this has already been recall on my vehicle back in 2017 prior to me purchasing the car and it supposedly fixed but either it wasn't fixed or the repair has failed again. I see many other owners of other Hyundai models and Kia are having this issue even after these so-called repairs have been made.
The engine is burning oil without any warning lights come on engine almost seized up . No no oil low light came on. Do you like that came out was check engine so we bought it to the dealership for service and then the ones they told us with the problem with the engine and looks like the same problem that a Hyundai is having with the four cylinders which they are replacing unfortunately is only up to 150,000 miles a Hyundai will not do nothing for us on this engine because it’s not part of the recall, oh this is the same problem. The four-cylinder’s are having I was told by the mechanics in the service tech from a Hyundai. This is the second time this happened the first time they said we need a new toilet. We need a pressure switch We needed some other stuff in the car which almost came out to $4000 to get fix that at Hyundai add Voz , Ed Voyles and Hyundai in all Semira Georgia. I was just hoping you could help us with the situation to see if there’s anybody else out there with that problem.
While driving the vehicle, power was lost several times, the engine redlined because it could not switch gears. All of the oil was used by engine 40 days after oil change. Hyundai has repeatedly ignored our request for a new engine.
The engine is failing due to a broken bearing inside the engine. This caused oil to leak inside the engine and burn out through the exhaust. There were no warning lights such as a check engine or low oil. The reason we took it to the shop is because the car started making raddling and knocking noise when pressing the gas pedal. The mechanic shop informed us there was no oil in the vehicle when we just got a synthetic oil change in December. They diagnosed that significant engine damage was done and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle is almost 10 years old and has 108,000 miles. There were no warning signs of this happening it just happened. There were no major issues with this vehicle. We consistently maintained the vehicle maintenance and oil changes and kept all records.
I purchased a Hyundai Santa Fe V6 3.3 L what's 67,000 miles on it from an owner that kept it maintained at the dealership and we have records. I kept it maintained I have records to support. The complaint is the engine started failing without notice while driving which was very dangerous because of the loss of speed while in traffic. The engine would rev up to redline which would force me to let off the gas call losing all power. My four year old daughter and I almost got plowed over from behind on the interstate by a semi truck because our engine would suddenly rev way up to redline without any notice. I contacted Hyundai about it, the engine has now died and we lost $15,000 vehicle because of it. Hyundai has ignored us regarding the dead car and the safety component. They should not be allowed to conduct a business in the United States. The amount of lawsuit stacked up against them for ripping off we Americans, is absolutely absurd. Get off [XXX] and do something about it. I'm a tax paying Citizen and you're allowed me to get [XXX] in my own backyard with regards to a [XXX] car for my family. I was driving my Santa Fe into my garage and there was a misfire in the engine. And then it stopped running, I have had it parked there now for 1 month because I don’t have the money to put a engine in it ,
Since I bought this vehicle it has done nothing but burn oil. I do regular oil changes on a regular basis. In between these oil changes I have to add 3 to 5 quarts of oil every 2 weeks. I have only had the vehicle for 2 yrs and 6 months. I am constantly checking the oil I believe there needs to be a recall on this vehicle engine.
I bought this car brand new and have never had any problems with it until the engine seized. The car has been driven 64,691 miles. On 2/11 the car was started in a shopping center parking lot and the engine began ticking. There were no lights present. We drove it home (1 mile) and I called Piazza Hyundai. Their next diagnostic opening was for March 3rd. I made the appointment, left the car in the driveway, and called my own mechanic on Monday, hoping for a quicker repair. On 2/13 the engine still ticked and ultimately shut down on a major road a mile from my home en route to my mechanic. I had it towed to Mighty Muffler and it was declared seized on Tuesday, 2/14. I then had it towed to Piazza Hyundai where it is waiting for it's appointment. There were no lights illuminated until it shut down. After the car stopped working, the engine, oil and battery lights appeared.
I was driving to work January 12th and I turned on my left blinker and touched my breaks to slow down and make a stop at a red light in a turning lane. After touching my break my car stalled for the first time since I owned the vehicle in the middle of the road. I put it in park and tried to turn it over twice. The hood of my vehicle started smoking and my engine seized up. I dropped my vehicle off at Horne Hyundai on January 18th after Pep Boys did an engine diagnostics confirming it fell under a recall I was never notified about. There were no engine lights on previous to my car breaking down and I have not heard back from Horne Hyundai since I dropped off my vehicle. Prior to the breakdown, there were not engine malfunctions. Ever since I got the car it didn't accelerate well, but thought it was the specific model of the vehicle.
Not sure if it had anything but Hyundai replaced the rod bearing due to a notice we received to bring it in. A month after this, and just after getting an oil change the check engine light turned on. Upon arriving home, my husband found the car basically on empty for oil. I took it and our mechanic confirmed this. I then took to Hyundai in Cornelius, NC and after many tests they confirmed the car was burning oil, but could not determine the reason. There were no visible leaks etc. Nothing was provided as a solution, we continued to have to due monitor the oil, add when necessary, and take it in for an oil change once a month. As of January 1st, 2023 the car lost power while my 19 yr. old son was driving it with his younger brother and the engine light started flashing. The car is now has no viable engine. I feel this is very poor handling by Hyundai and more attention should have been giving by them for their product which we paid and ended up with a bad apple. Based on what I have researched this seems to be more of a common problem.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. Additionally, the vehicle was experiencing excessive oil consumption. An unknown dealer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 128,000. The VIN was unavailable.
2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited FWD bought 6/1/22. We bought the car used at 89,000 miles and drove it to 100,000 miles. On 12/19/22 this incident occurred. On the freeway, at speed, I experienced a sudden engine failure/loss. No warning lights prior to this loss and the car had no previous mechanical issues. Acceleration was lost with no warning, no light or indication that something was (going) wrong. I was able to coast to a stop on the side of the road. Once safely off the road I inspected the vehicle for damage, found none and opened the hood. I found no oil on the dipstick, Oil changed 3000 miles before, no interior dash warning about low/no oil. Luckily this was not during rush hour traffic or bumper to bumper where it could have completely died on me in a traveling lane and been a hazard to other drivers. Waited 3 hours for a tow and it is currently sitting at the repair shop where they provided a confirmation that the engine is seized and will need to be completely replaced. Insurance Appraiser was out Friday (12/23) at the Repair shop to look at the vehicle. Repair cost is more than the car is worth and Hyundai Warranty/Recalls are not applicable to the 3.3L V6 Engines which is what our model car has.
Hernstine Hyundai of chillicothe Ohio refused to replace my engine after it failed the inspection when I took it to have the recalls repaired and a week later my engine blew up going 65 on the highway on my way home almost causing me to get into an accident
Driving at approx. 55 mph on busy 2-way road when the engine stopped completely. There were vehicles all around me when I lost power brakes, power steering and nearly lost control. There was no prior warning. I managed to get off the road into a field. Towed to service station. They thought engine had failed but it was too big a job for them. Then had it towed to the nearest Hyundai dealer in Augusta, ME. They checked it and agreed the engine had simply frozen. According to the dealer 2 days later, Hyundai agreed that the engine had to be replaced and was covered under warranty. They have offered a rental car until the car is repaired. Dealer estimated to be 10/14/22. The dealer has been a pleasure to deal with but my problem is that this seems to be a very common issue with 2013 Hyundai Sports vehicles. After checking several websites there seem to be dozens of these incidents reported and probably many more unreported. We were very fortunate to not be in a severe accident. It seems just a matter of time before someone is killed because of this vehicle malfunction. Hyundai should have a complete recall.
* Vehicle started blowing smoke out of the tailpipe, was losing power and began to stall out, the vehicle is available for inspection and is located at my local dealership * Vehicle began to lose power and started stalling out as I was driving which could have caused an accident * The problem was reproduced by both an independent service center and the Hyundai dealership; both indicated the engine needs to be replaced * Vehicle has been inspected and tested by an independent service center and the Hyundai dealership; both indicated the engine needs to be replaced * There were no warning lamps or messages prior to the problem occurring * There is a safety recall (NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V-226) for this very issue * The dealership claims they ran the diagnostics and the vehicle is considered to be operating at a functional level and is outside of the parameters set by Hyundai for an engine replacement even though they agreed the vehicle can not be driven in its current condition and that the engine needs to be replaced * Hyundai is refusing to replace the engine * It is questionable as to whether or not the dealership conducted a proper inspection according to Hyundai's "Recall 162 Dealer Best Practices Guide" (which required testing to be conducted and results to be uploaded to HMA via utilization of the GDS mobile tablet) and Technical Service Bulleting (TSB) #17-01-047 for this recall which was published on 6/23/17 as they are is unwilling or unable to supply any testing results or parameters and did not replace the dipstick, oil or oil filter as the recall service requires *Vehicle has been at the dealership since it was towed there on 8/11/22 and we have not had use of it since 7/18/22
Engine light blinking and engine knocking
A knocking noise from the engine that increases in frequency as the engine rpm increases. Reduced power and/or hesitation and vibration. Illumination of the “check engine” light in the instrument cluster. Illumination of the “engine oil pressure” warning lamp.
Every time u start my car if knocks don’t matter if the engine is hot or cold and even after u change the oil
While driving for approximately 4 hours I heard a loud pop and the car shut off with no warning. Smoke began to come from under the hood and as I opened the hood you can see a small fire coming from underneath the engine. Luckily I was able to put out the fire and had the car towed to a mechanic who informed me that I had a hole in my engine block. Had vehicle towed to dealership and contacted Hyundai about issue. I’m told their was a recall but I never received notice. There’s a case being investigated by Hyundai but as of now no details. Vehicle remains at dealership until further notice.
My car shut completely off while turning at the traffic light.
This car has 81K miles on it and the engine started knocking, no engine light nor oil light came on. The car stalled a couple of times at a red light. I dropped the car off at my local repair shop and they said it had very little oil in it and advised me to take it to a Hyundai dealer. I have video of the dash showing no lights ever came on. The dealership confirmed it had very little oil in it and no dash lights were on and advised me to call Hyundai to see about getting a replacement motor. I had the oil changed at the dealership and drove the car home. The engine was still knocking very badly and the engine ended up seizing up and the car shut down and isn't working now. I'm waiting on Hyundai to call me back. This is evidently a known problem with these cars/engines and they've had numerous class action lawsuits but haven't done an official recall. This is unacceptable. I realize the government has fined them as well but more needs to be done.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle started losing motive power, with the check engine warning light illuminated. As the contact continued driving, he began to hear an abnormal knocking sound coming from the engine. The contact pulled over and discovered that there was no oil in the engine. The contact added oil to the engine however, the knocking sound persisted. The contact towed the vehicle to his home where his brother inspected the vehicle and diagnosed the vehicle with a defective timing chain. The contact then had the vehicle towed to a dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed with a defective rod bearing. The contact was then given an estimate for the replacement of the engine. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a complaint was filed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 141,000.
The engine stopped on me in a traffic lane. The check engine light came on and the oil light. I had to sit in the traffic lane until a tow truck arrived. I had it towed to my mechanic, they said there was an issue in cylinder 1. I had it towed to Auto Nation Hyundai in Savannah, a month later they told me the car had carbon build up from using ethanol gas. They said it is regular maintenance and would cost $1600. This car only has 117,000 miles. I have had cars I drove up to 250,000 miles and did not have this issue. I had the car towed to Auto Nation in South Carolina, they said I need a new intake manifold and a new exhaust manifold. The only thing both places said were the spark plugs. I told them I could not afford $13,000 to replace the spark plugs. They called me back and stated that changing the spark plugs will do no good the car has no compression. I said, oh I did not know you did the compression test. I have spoken to a case manager at Hyundai, they are refusing to pay, saying the car is not under the extended warranty and that these are not the parts covered. I guess they are trying to say it is normal wear and tear and 117,000 miles are high miles. But in reality, the spark plug had no gap so it is likely pieces of metal in the engine component and Hyundai is not repairing cars that are a hazard. I would venture to guess that I am not the only one.
The engine light came on, a loud sound is coming from the engine. I took my car to the mechanic and they mentioned there are metal shaving in the oil from the engine. I know of one other person who has the same issue and numerous others on google with the problem.
2013 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO ENGINE ISSUES. THE CONSUMER STATED THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AFTER HAVING BEEN REPLACED UNDER RECALL. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE ENGINE SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED.
While driving my kids to school, I was attempting to speed up on highway and could not. I was less than a mile away when I could feel the car dying. Luckily it was just as I coasted into the school drop off line, but engine failed and would not start. First of course we attempted to charge battery but eventually realized it was not the the battery. I have contacted my local Hyundai dealer and am getting it towed to service department. I wanted to report this because what if I and my kids were on the interstate at 70mph and my engine seized with no warning lights or indications there was a problem. We could’ve very easily been inured or killed. Scary stuff!
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal knocking sound detected. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and the contact was informed that the engine needed to be taken apart to determine the cause of the failure; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.
When driving on a main highway at about 65 MPH, my engine started to make a weird ticking sound and my car was slowing down. I was able to cross 3 lanes of traffic to an exit and stop at a gas station. There were no warning lights on initially but after a few minutes, a solid engine light came on and stayed on. Prior to this incident, there were no warning lights for my engine, oil, battery, etc. When getting to a repair shop, they told me the engine had seized and my battery was dead. They said there may be a recall but after calling Hyundai, they said there was no recall on my specific car, although it seems like many people with my type of engine have had the exact problem.
While driving on the freeway, without warning the driver was unable to accelerate to change lanes and suddenly multiple warning lights illuminated. Car was able to coast and driver slowly made way to exit and left the freeway to off ramp. Steering and brakes were still operable. No signs of smoke, odors or noises during incident. Once stopped car was placed in park and turned off and engine would not turn over. Slight smell was noticed a few minutes later. Before driving no indicator lights were illuminated warning of possible issues with car. This was a dangerous situation as the driver and family was on a freeway at high speeds. Automobile is currently at Dealer who has confirmed that the engine has seized and is no longer operable. Dealer is in contact with Manufacturer on next steps. Automobile is up to date on all recall repairs. Last service maintenance was conducted 2 months prior.
I bought my Santa Fe from a used auto dealer in September 2021 with 102,000 mi. November 2021 I had to have rear brakes done including rotors and calipers that were stuck. In January 2022 it stalled and wouldn’t start. Towed to my mechanic since closest Hyundai shop is an hour away. My mechanic replaced starter first then realized the engine had seized. Also replaced air filter. When I entered my VIN on the Hyundai site it didn’t show the engine recall. So, I read through the court case and found out my engine was supposed to be included. When I called Hyundai they agreed that it is part of the recall. Good thing I read the court case info. Next I have my 2013 Santa Fe Sport AWD towed to the Hyundai shop. When they were checking to make sure it was a seized engine, they burnt out the brand new starter. No loaner cars available and they said I would need to pay for a rental and get reimbursed after which I couldn’t afford. When my car was ready, I got a ride to the the one hour away Hyundai shop. Also they charged me for an air filter, saying there wasn’t one in my “bad” engine. As soon as I got on the highway in my Santa Fe there were multiple issues. It wouldn’t shift right and steering was messed up so I had to take it back to Hyundai shop and have my ride turn around to come get me. The next time I picked it up there weren’t the prior issues. However, Hyundai refused to reimburse me for the starter my mechanic replaced. I had no prior starter issues and it was obviously caused from trying to start a seized engine. After a month I finally signed off on being reimbursed for the tow charges which they called a “courtesy”. By February my sunroof was having issues closing and eventually got stuck open. After applying white lithium grease and having it tarped for 3 days I finally got it closed. However I don’t dare open it again. In the same month rear wiper stopped working and I developed an exhaust leak at the converter in front of the front muffler and burning odor
The vehicle started to stall and smoke started to come from the engine compartment. People started yelling the vehicle was fire. Vehicle stopped in the road and burst into flames. Fire department and police were called to scene. Vehicle was a total loss.
We took this vehicle over for a relative who originally owned it. We had no idea about all the engine problems We had some trouble with accelerating and a knocking sound on our engine. We called in to get it checked out. We were told there was a recall to install a chip to monitor these exact symptoms. We went in and got the chip. The engine finally quit and we were stuck in the middle if the road while driving a child to school. First the dealer said there was nothing wrong with the car accept, “this can happen if the oil is changed anywhere but the dealer.” So, that’s obviously dishonest and made everything after, suspect. It’s the type of filter you use that matters and it’s not going to cause the problems we described. Then we told them all the problems we had that were identical to the recalls. Soon after saying that they said “we have more to talk about” and told us this was “piston scoring” not covered by the extended warranty. Now they said even though they put the recall chip in for these EXACT problems. This was not related to those problems. This was “scoring on the pistons.” So, now I see piston problems are being addressed in many Hyundai Models but not ours. This is ridiculous to have a vehicle that you can’t count on and then a dealer that is dishonest even for only $50 oil change. The EXACT SAME ISSUES HAPPENED TO US AS LISTED IN THE RECALL. If it didn’t pass a bearing test we would have gotten a new engine. But Hyundai did the test after lying to us about the car’s oil change and being fine. So how can we trust anything they say?
Hello, well, I want to inform you that the check engine code P1326 is arrowing and it lost power, it does not go from 1800 to 2000 revolutions and the engine is sounding down. And I called the Hyundai and they washed their hands saying that it's already over 100,000 miles, it's out of warranty when I know that's a problem with those factory wear engines.
Hello I have a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe sport 2.4l and looked up Vin and says no open recalls. My question is why is there no recalls on 2.4l engines and there is on the 2.0? The 2.4l engines are having the same issues as others as far as engine bearings and other things
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while driving at 65 MPH, the vehicle started rattling. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact continued to drive the vehicle. Upon arriving at his destination, the contact opened the hood of the vehicle and noticed that the dipstick was dry, indicating a lack of engine oil; however, there were no oil leaks found. The contact added 5 quarts of oil to the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there was an internal engine failure and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 156,000.
Car has 122000 and lost power. Hyundai said it needs a new engine and refuse to pay
VERY WELL MAINTAINED LOW MILES WITH A P1326, P0014, C1611 CODES WHICH I HAD CLEARED AND LOOKED AT BY MY SHOP ONLY TO BE STANDARD HALF-MILE LATER ON A VERY BUSY ROAD, HAD A TOW COME AND GET ME WHICH WAS EXPENSIVE ALONG WITH THE BILL I HAD JUST PAID FOR. I THOUGHT IT HAD CAUGHT ON FIRE B/C THE SMELL WAS SO TERRIBLE. THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE. THIS SUCKS AND THEY PROBABLY WON'T DO A [XXX] THING ABOUT IT. AS I LIVE ALREADY LIKE I'M IN POVERTY THIS ISN'T ENOUGH. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
My wife was driving down the highway on her way home from work. It was dark and at the evening rush hour, when the highway is already dangerous to be traveling on at that time. All of the sudden while traveling in the second lane her engine lost power and dropped in speed to 20 mph from 65 mph. There were no warning lights, or prior sounds ,vibrations or other symptoms to indicate an issue. She immediately became worried about trying to get the car off the highway and to a safe place, with out causing or being involve in an accident. She called me scared and didn’t want to drive it any further. After we got the car home, I checked for fouled plugs, bad coil pack, maybe bad fuel in the tank or possibly a bad or stuck injector. None of these had any issues. Our son who works at Somersworth Hyundai here in New Hampshire,as a salesman, talked to the technician there and he told us to bring the car there and he’d take a look at it. When we heard back from him the technician said that there was no compression in cylinder number 2. My safety concern is that when this the case the injectors continue to dump fuel into the cylinder. Causing excess fuel that doesn’t get combusted in the cylinder to be dumped into the exhaust manifold and out the tail pipe as a heated vapor. The concern is the fumes, the possibility of a fire igniting in the hot exhaust manifold and causing an uncontrollable situation. The technician also said if you take a bore scope you will see that a valve in the head has broken off for cylinder 2 and has caused this issue. The car has been sitting in my garage now for 4-5 months. We still owe on this car and it can’t be safely moved anywhere with out being towed.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 MPH, the vehicle started vibrating and making a knocking sound. The contact stated that he then took his vehicle to an independent mechanic who advised him that he needed to take his vehicle to the dealer. The contact stated that once he arrived at the dealer he was advised that he would need a new engine and it may be covered under the warranty. The contact stated that he was denied the warranty coverage from the manufacturer, as he did not follow up with a recall to update the engine software to prevent the engine from knocking. The contact stated that he never received a recall notice regarding the recall. The contact also stated that he was informed that even if he had the software updated the engine failure would have still occurred. The contact stated that he spoke to the manufacturer who explained the denial and a case was opened. The approximate mileage failure was 99,023.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently stalled. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer where an oil consumption test was performed. The contact was informed that the engine was blown and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed the contact that they were unable to assist. The failure mileage was approximately 123,000. The VIN was unavailable.
The engine(3.3L) on my vehicle went out. It has well under 100,000 miles on it. I was driving down the highway and the engine just started making a noise and instantly shut down. There were no check engine lights on or any warning at all. The vehicle wasn't making any noises at all until the moment it shut down without warning. There wasn't any oil pressure lights on or low oil lights or nothing. The oil was always regularly changed. My family and I are just lucky that we were on a cold, dark, empty highway that night instead of on a busy interstate. If we had been in busy traffic, it would have been a very dangerous situation. I have called the Hyundai dealership(Crain Hyundai, North Little Rock,AR)where I bought the vehicle from. I explained to them what was going on. They said there is nothing they can do about it because I'm the second owner of the vehicle. I called the Hyundai Cooperation and explained the situation to them as well. They gave me a case number and also said there is nothing they can do about it. I went on the internet and found that several people have had the same problem with their vehicle engine (3.3L)as me. I also found that Hyundai had done a recall on that same vehicle year, make and model for the exact same problem. But their recall was only for the 4 cylinder engine and not for the 6 cylinder engine. I called Hyundai Cooperation back and told them that they needed to add the 6 cylinder engine to their recall as well. They still insisted that there was nothing they could do. I think the Hyundai Cooperation needs to fix this problem. It's very expensive to us consumers of theirs. Someone could also get hurt if their vehicle shut down on them in heavy traffic or in the wrong place.
The back of the engine is smoking and has a burning smell
This is my daughter car and she is getting no where with Hyundai. The middle of November I was driving her car from Raleigh nc , we stopped to get gas , then I got to my house and then she drive to her house. After 20 minutes later she called and her car had stopped on the side of the road. She waited for triple a but no luck so she had to leave on the side of the road. The next day car was towed to garage. They said motor was gone. No warning no nothing. He told us about a recall 953?? Or something so we towed to Hyundai. They said she didn’t have a recall so they will not pay for her car to be fixed. We feel like Hyundai should stay behide this engine. My daughter is a hard working nurse and purchases this car used snd still owes 5,000 and they said they would give her 500.00 for the car. The car was driving great and no lights ever came on the dash. Please help me to get in touch with the right people bc I know this all has to do with all the engine problems all Hyundai’s are having. She did say right before it stopped running some lights came on the dash then it just died. She thought it was just a battery so she tried to get triple about with a battery but they were behide that night and never showed. The oil had been changed about 3,000 miles when this happened. Please help us get her car fixed. Thank you
hyundia and darcy hyundia dealership (815) 725-5200 know of this excessive oil consumption problem with the engine and now this vehicles oil consumption has ruined the catalytic converters . vehicle is using 1 qt. a week driving about 150 miles estimated. My Daughter was driving home from work during rush hour and car lost power and went into limp mode . car was towed to dealership .12/3/2021 and had vehicle 7-10 days and said problem is plugged catalytic converters. root cause to much oil consumption.this problem started years ago with oil consumption . we took it to the dealership and they kept saying it was normal .I said that it was excessive .which it was .I could not get them to repair the motor and they new it was excessive oil consumption. My Daughters safety was put at risk.It was night time and rush hour .Now were getting nowhere with hyundia and Darcy hyundia of joliet IL.60436
My wife’s 2013 Santa Fe 2.0 Sport AWD started consuming 1-2 quarts of oil a week a few months prior to the problem that inevitably ended in a very stressful and unsafe situation for her on her drive home. The engine with out warning on the dash or any other signs lost the number two cylinder compression and caused the car to have major acceleration issues. As well as raw fuel being dumped into the cylinder and entering into the exhaust manifold. As you can barely breath when standing behind the car or even driving behind it. Her car was taken to a Hyundai dealership after I had seen there was a recall on her motor for a failure of a Nok Sensor. The dealership technician diagnosed the issue and said that there was no compression in the second cylinder due to a valve in the head breaking off. We were told that the repairs would not be covered by a recall and that the cars engine would need to be replaced as the fact that the raw fuel being dumped into the engine destroyed that cylinder. Again no warnings or warning lights, car acceleration was extremely slow and the car shook while trying to get it home safely. I am concerned that in an area where the temperature outside is significantly higher than where we live, that raw fuel could ignite in the exhaust system, as well as cause a vehicle low on fuel to combust due to the vapor of the tank possibly igniting due to to the possible fire in the engine compartment and exhaust system.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. The contact stated that as he pulled into his workplace, he saw smoke coming from underneath the hood of the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that he parked the vehicle and left. The contact also stated that the vehicle was burning a significant amount of oil. The contact did not sustain any injuries. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was not diagnosed by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact became aware of the recall for NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V226000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING), the vehicle was taken to the dealer for the recall repair; however, the dealer informed the contact that no issues were found upon inspecting the engine. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring while driving. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The contact was still awaiting a call back from the manufacturer. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000.
The engine has a Knock. As if the rod or bearing are lose. The connecting Rod bearings sound loose. It started in my way to Dance class for my daughter.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently started to stall. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact veered to the side of the road and turned off the vehicle. The contact stated that she was unable to restart the vehicle after several attempts. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to tow the vehicle to the dealer for the recall repair under NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V586000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the engine had failed. The dealer notified that the manufacturer of the diagnostic test result and the manufacturer informed the dealer that they would not cover the repair of the vehicle because the ECM and cluster update had not been completed. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 187,000.
Engine seized up while driving. How many complaints before NHTSA investigates?
October 15, 2021. Driving South on Hwy 99 near Pixley when all of a sudden the engine died and the car started coasting. I was in the fast lane doing approximately 65mph. Put the blinker on and when a semi truck on the other lane finally passed me I was able to coast off the 99 onto a off ramp where I pulled over shaking because the engine stopping could have caused a very tragic accident. Tried to restart the engine and it did but could hear it rattling so I shut it off and called Auto Club for a tow. Had it towed back to Fresno to Auto Works where they confirmed the lower end had failed. Left it there and picked up my Jeep and continued my trip to So Cal. While there I was told by a friend there were numerous 4 cyl engine failures. I then found out thru Hyundai that there was a recall on my vehicle.
Engine oil level is low even though the car had just an oil change. Car was brought to Subaru dealership where we bought the car. They said the engine is burning oil and the oil was very dark. They recommended to bring it to a nearby Hyundai dealership for engine recall or warranty. We contacted Hyundai dealership but they told us there was no recall nor warranty nor are they going to conduct a diagnosis. We brought the car to a trusted auto repair shop and they said the same thing the Subaru dealership told us. We contacted Hyundai dealership but told us again that there is no recall or warranty.
My vehicle engine has an oil consumption problem that was diagnosed in July of 2021. The car was making a bad vibrating rattling noise, and the red oil light came on which prompted immediate diagnostics July 6th, 2021. When they assessed they stated to drive it and check the oil level and on August 2nd I brought the vehicle back and they recommended starting the Hyundai protocol for diagnosing burn of oil due to smoke The Hyundai dealership I have had my car serviced at went through the 1000 mile burn test to diagnose the problem and this was confirmed to be the issued September 10th, 2021. Hyundai states that engine is under warranty but will only repair (or replace) the engine if the engine undergoes a catastrophic failure involving the bearings. This seems highly dangerous and illegal. If the engine burns too much oil the engine will seize. When the engine seizes, this could cause the operator to lose control of the vehicle causing harm to the driver, passengers, or others on the public roadway. I have contacted Hyundai corporate headquarters about this, though links provided on their website are broken and make it difficult to get clear answers. I have done the required maintenance and have records to prove this. However I am VERY FRUSTRATED AND SCARED. My engine has not seized or failed yet, but if this issue is not resolved, it WILL fail. When the manufacturer knows this issue exists, and when the consumer proactively maintains their vehicle, brings it into the dealership to be told “to drive it and let it catastrophically fail” for Hyundai to acknowledge their warranty is unethical and if not illegal, it should be. Reading online, there are many others who are having similar problems. These are the cases related to this issue: Hyundai and Kia Engine Litigation, No. 8:17-cv-00838-JLS-JDE (C.D. Cal.) Flaherty v. Hyundai Motor Company, et al., No. 18-cv-02223 (C.D. Cal.) PLEASE look into this. On Saturday, September 11, 2021 while driving, the engine light came on and the car started to to hesitate a little. We were able to make it home and to a mechanic. The mechanic said the engine seized up and now needs to be replaced. There was a recall on this model due to this very thing but my car was not part of the recall. Hyundai is now saying the 10year/100,000 mile power train warranty only applies to the original owner. I have never missed an oil change, I'm up do date on all the manufacturers recommendation for service for the mileage, which is just under 94,000. I feel they should be responsible. Thank you.
There has been a recall on vehicles like this one with the smaller engines. But, not for the 3.3 engines like I have. Everything the small engines were recalled for, this one is doing too. When you get up to high speeds on the highway the engine starts to knock/stall. I almost was in a car accident with my children because of this. Hyundai is refusing to help pay because they are saying the 3.3 engines weren't affected. But, clearly they were. I took it to a mechanic and he confirmed it was the engine and he has seen dozens just like mine going through the same issues. The check engine light came on last September. It only blinks when at high speeds on the interstate. We had tried fixing other things on it, not thinking it was the engine itself. Until when we took it in yesterday and they ran a test and said that this has been reported multiple times on the tsb mechanic website of these 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe vehicles, the engines going out. My car only has 94k miles and they are still refusing to help us. I am floored with how we are being treated. This is a known problem and I have four children who need a vehicle to get around for school, doctors appointments, activities. This has been some the worst stress of my life dealing with this SUV. I have kept up so well on my vehicle, only for something that is not my fault to go wrong and now my kids/family is having to suffer because of it.
A hole developed in the bottom of the engine while driving, after a popping noise. Smoke started, and fluid leaked. Why was this VIN not part of the engine recall for Sante Fe Sport SUVs that was announced in May 2021? I just bought this car from a dealer in July, and they said there were no open recalls. Now the car is useless, and not sure if it is still covered by the limited used car warranty.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated the vehicle would not immediately start-up and required several attempts before the vehicle would start-up. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times, but the dealer informed the contact that they could not duplicate the failure. The contact stated upon starting the vehicle, she heard abnormal knocking sounds coming from the engine. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist as the vehicle was out of warranty. A case was opened. The failure mileage was 95,934.
The waste guage on the turbo stalled and would not work while I was driving. Next the call stopped and the engine stopped working with no warning while I was driving. This could have been very serious if I was in traffic on the highway or in front of a truck at a high rate of speed.
engine failed driving down the road. was told by hyundai mechanic said to report matter possibly was missed by manufacturer metal debris that caused lock up no recall for my vin as of yet
Right before the Christmas Holidays our vehicle began leaking oil profusely and running hot. We quickly took to a local mechanic who told us there were major issues with our vehicle. At his urging, we promptly called your service department to look over the vehicle. We were told it would need a new motor and radiator at a cost of $10-$13K. The vehicle was 6 years old and we have maintained the vehicle regularly. Early on, we were told that an oil consumption test needs to be completed, which was a complete waste of time. The car would not go 50 miles without losing 100% of it’s oil. We took it back to Hyundai and they stated there was nothing they could do.
The problem related to the class action for the Theta II GSD engine happened to my engine (Rod Bearing Failure). This is causing the engine to knock. Will have to replace the entire engine with less than 100k on the vehicle. Ran the vehicle normally and then parked it. Once I got back in the vehicle, I tried to start it and it would not start. I brought it to the dealer, and they came back and said there is a Rod Bearing Failure causing the engine to knock.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. THE CONTACTS WIFE STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH, WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTED SMOKING AND WAS ACCOMPANIED BY A KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND POWER OFF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALER (MAJOR HYUNDAI 1534 N 9TH ST, STROUDSBURG, PA 18360 (570) 972-2578) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH NEEDING ENGINE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT ASSOCIATED THE FAILURE WITH, NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V226000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) HOWEVER THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A RESPONSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 95,000.
ON A COMMON DAY TWO WEEKS AGO, I WAS DRIVING MY 2013 SANTA FE AND I ACCELERATED TO PASS A VEHICLE WHEN IT INSTANTLY TURNED OFF AND BEGAN TO EMIT SMOKE FROM THE ENGINE. I PARKED AND WAITED FOR THE SMOKE TO FINISH COMING OUT WITH THE SMELL OF BURNING PLASTIC. I PROCEEDED TO CALL A TOW TRUCK AND THEN A MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC CHECKED IT AND TOLD ME THAT THE ENGINE WAS STUCK AND HAD TO BE REPLACED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITH SEVERAL UNKNOWN WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HYUNDAI OF NORTH CHARLESTON (8485 RIVERS AVE, NORTH CHARLESTON, SC 29406) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH THE ENGINE NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT METAL SHAVINGS WERE FOUND IN THE OIL PAN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE AND AGREED TO PAY A PARTIAL AMOUNT FOR THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 74,374.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND THE CAR JUST SHUT DOWN
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. MY LUCK AFTER LOOKING INTO THIS MY VIN DOES NOT MEET THE RECALL FOR THE 2013 HYUNDAI SANTA FE 2.0T. BUT THE DEALER WHO SOLD ME THE CAR WILL GLADLY TAKE MY MONEY FOR AN ENGINE REPLACEMENT
UPON DRIVING THE ENGINE STARTING RATTLING THERE WERE NO LIGHTS OR CHECK ENGINE CODES THAT CAME ON. AFTER THAT THE ENGINE LOCKED UP
AT ONLY 78,754 MILES THE ENGINE EXHIBITED A LOUD KNOCKING SOUND THAT INCREASED IN FREQUENCY AS THE ENGINE RPMS AND DECREASED IN FREQUENCY AS ENGINE RPMS DECREASED. HYUNDAI SAID THE ENTIRE ENGINE NEEDS REPLACEMENT. IT SOUNDS JUST LIKE THE PROBLEM REPORTED IN THE 2012 SANTA FE RECALL. SINCE I'M CONSIDERED THE SECOND OWNER (VEHICLE WAS ORIGINALLY LEASED BY SOMEONE ELSE), THE WARRANTY WAS NOT HONORED.
I DROVE TO WORK AND PULLED IN THE PARKING LOT THE SANTE FE ACTED LIKE IT WAS HESITATING. I CHECKED EVERYTHING AND IMMEDIATELY DROVE IT 1 MINUTE ACROSS THE STREET TO FIRESTONE. THEY SAID IT WAS COMPRESSION IN THE 4TH CYLINDER AND CHANGED THE OIL INCASE I NEEDED TO DRIVE IT TO A DEALER. I CHOSE TO TOW. THEY UNCOVERED THE SIMILAR PROBLEM. THEY SENT IT UP TO WARRANTY AND IT WAS DENIED TWICE. THEY DEALER AND THE HYUNDAI SPOKESPERSON FOR THE DEALER WERE SHOCKED. I THEN SPOKE WITH A LESSON TO THE WARRANTY COMPANY AND THEY REFUSED AGAIN AS IT WASN'T THE "BEARING". HOWEVER THE CAR ENGINE WAS NOT TORN APART TO KNOW, THE CYLINDER IS CONNECTED TO THE BEARINGS, AND THE ENGINES ARE PROVEN JUNK OVER AND OVER. A FEW YEARS AGO I HAD A RECALL FOR THE OIL HAD IT FIXED AND WAS GIVEN A ENGINE WARRANTY TO 120000 MILES. I HAVE 96000. BUT BECAUSE NOW THEY HAVE A "NEW" ISSUE THEY ARE ONLY COVERING IF IT'S SPECIFICALLY THE "BEARING". WHICH THEY DOMT KNOW FOR SURE AS THEY HAVE TAKEN THE ENGINE APART. AND THE DEALER INFORMED THAT IF I WOULD HAVE BROUGHT IN THE CAR A FEW DAYS PRIOR IT WOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED. THEY HAD REPLACED ENGINES FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM. HOWEVER MY CAR WAS DENIED 1 DAY BEFORE THE "NEW" RULE WENT OUT TO DEALERS. HOW SHADY IS THIS. NOW I HAVE A 15000.00 PIECE OF JUNK THAT HYUNDAI WON'T EVEN ATTEMPT TO MAKE RIGHT.
MY ENGINE IS BURNING OIL I KNOW IT'S NORMAL BUT IT BURNS A LOT I JUST CHANGED MY OIL A WEEK AGO AND IT'S NOW BELOW THE LOW LEVEL I WONDER WHERE THE OIL IS AND I CHECK IF THERE IS A LEAK I REMOVED THE ENGINE COVER UNDER TO SEE THE OIL PAN ETC I FOUND NOTHING
MY CAR WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY OUT OF OIL EVEN THOUGH I JUST BOUGHT IT 4 MONTHS AGO AT CARMAX WHERE THEY PERFORMED AN OIL CHANGE. MY CAR STALLED WHILE GETTING OFF THE FREEWAY AND STARTED TAPPING. THE FIRST SHOP COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG AND NOW HYUNDAI IS INVESTIGATING.
ON 11/02/2020 MY HYUNDAI SANTAFE SPORT BROKE DOWN. I WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC AT UNIVERSAL HYUNDAI THAT THE 4TH CYLINDER WAS MISSFIRING AND THAT GASOLINE WAS SPRAYING INTERNALLY. I HAVE ALWAYS TAKEN CARE OF MY CAR AND HAVE CHANGED OIL REGULARLY AND HAVE NEVER HAD A SINGLE ISSUE WITH THE CAR. AFTER SOME INVESTIGATION I GOUND THAT HYUNDAI HAD TWO RECALLS ( 164 AND 194) I WAS TOLD BY THE REP AT UNIVERSAL HYUNDAI THAT MY CAR WOULD NEED A NEW ENGINE AND THAT IT WOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. HOWEVER HYUNDAI ENDED UP GOING BACK ON THEIR WORD AND SAID MY EGINE WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL AND THEY WOULDN'T PAY FOR ANYTHING.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY ON 12/21/20 AND MY ENGINE COMPLETELY SEIZED, NO WARNING AND INCREDIBLY TERRIFYING. THE CAR CAME TO A VERY SUDDEN STOP, AND WE WERE VERY LUCKY THAT WE WERE NOT KILLED IN AN ACCIDENT. MY CAR BEGAN SMOKING AND IT SMELLED AS IF IT WERE BURNING, WE CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT IMMEDIATELY. I WAS UNABLE TO START THE CAR AGAIN, AND I WAS ALSO UNABLE TO SWITCH IT TO NEUTRAL SO THAT I COULD GET OUT OF THE BUSY TRAFFIC. HAD TO CALL 911 AND PRAY THAT I WAS NOT HIT WHILE WAITING FOR THEM. I TRIED CONTINUOUSLY TO START MY CAR SO THAT I COULD MOVE OUT OF THE TRAFFIC, BUT ENGINE COMPLETELY SEIZED, GEAR WOULD NOT SHIFT TO NEUTRAL, AND WE WERE STRANDED IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. ONCE COPS CAME WE HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED 40 MILES AWAY AND IT IS NOW SITTING USELESSLY IN THE DRIVEWAY.
ORIGINALLY I DROVE THIS VEHICLE WHICH IS MOSTLY DRIVEN BY MY WIFE ON THE WEEK OF 27OCT20. I NOTICED A FEW TIMES SOMETHING SMELT LIKE IT WAS BURNING, I COULDN'T DECIPHER IF IT WAS A BURNT OIL OR ELECTRICAL SMELL. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WITH MY KIDS IN THE VEHICLE THE ENGINE JUST SHUT OFF, I WAS ABLE TO THROW IT INTO NEUTRAL AND PRESS THE START BUTTON AND IT STARTED RIGHT BACK UP AS I WAS ROLLING DOWN THE STREET. IT DID THIS TWO MORE TIMES BEFORE I GOT TO MY DESTINATION. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT FRIDAY, 30OCT20 FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND FOR THEM TO LOOK INTO IT. IT WAS AT THE END OF THE DAY SO THEY HAD NO UPPER TECHNICIANS TO CHECK IT OUT BUT THEY DID PERFORM AN OIL AND CABIN AIR FILTER CHANGE AND ASKED THAT I BRING IT BACK. 3 WEEKS LATER ON 19NOV20 I WAS DRIVING MY KIDS AGAIN WHEN THE ENGINE STARTED TO KNOCK AND SHUT OFF AGAIN. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER ON 28NOV20 AFTER LOOKING INTO THIS ISSUE AND READING A BUNCH OF ARTICLES ABOUT HYUNDAI & KIA BEING FINED FOR NOT RESPONDING TO A RECALL WHICH STATED DEBRIS FROM MANUFACTURING COULD RESTRICT OIL FLOW TO CONNECTING ROD BEARINGS, WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT THE KNOCKING IN MY ENGINE SOUNDS LIKE, POTENTIALLY CAUSING THE FOUR-CYLINDER ENGINES TO STALL OR CATCH FIRE. I HAVE HAD ALL OF THIS MINUS THE FIRE THANK GOD! BUT, NOW THE IT MAKES SENSE ABOUT THE BURNING SMELL I WAS SMELLING. I BELIEVE ALL THESE ISSUES ARE TIED INTO CAMPAIGN#/RECALL 162. FOR THIS RECALL A SENSOR SHOULD'VE BEEN INSTALLED IN MY VEHICLE BACK IN 2017 ACCORDING TO SERVICE RECORDS THAT SHOULD'VE INDICATED THIS ISSUE AND ALERTED ME. EVEN TO THE DAY IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP THE ENGINE WOULD RUN, KNOCK BUT NOT ONE SERVICE LIGHT WOULD LIGHT UP ON MY DASHBOARD. I'M STILL WAITING FOR A HYUNDAI REPRESENTATIVE TO COME AND INSPECT MY VEHICLE AS IT HAS NOT MOVED SINCE IT WAS DROPPED OFF WITH THE DEALER.
THE ENGINE JUST SEIZED UP WITH NO WARNING WHILE DRIVING. CAR WAS WELL MAINTAINED WITH ONLY 95 THOUSAND MILES. THEY HAVE A RECALL ON THE OTHER ENGINES BUT NOT THE 3.3 ENGINE. THE SHOULD RECALL ALL OF THE ENGINES
ENGINE STARTS BUCKING AND JERKING AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS SOMETIMES IT WILL LAST FOR MOMENTS AND OTHER TIMES IT WILL LAST FOR HOURS. MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE RUNNING OUT OF GAS OR PROBLEMS WITH FUEL SYSTEM OR BAD GAS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN HE ACCELERATED FROM A STOPPED POSITION THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ENGAGE IN GEARS TO ACCELERATE AND IT WOULD PERFORM LIKE A MANUAL TRANSMISSION VEHICLE STUCK IN NEUTRAL. THE RPMS WOULD REEVE UP AS A RESULT BEFORE THE VEHICLE WOULD FINALLY SHIFT INTO GEAR TO ACCELERATE WHEN THE CONTACT PRESSED ON THE FUEL PEDAL. THIS CONDITION WOULD OCCUR OFF AND ON WHILE HE DROVE HIS VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE DRIVE TO HIS DESTINATION. HE HAD THE ENGINE REPLACED BEFORE WITH A RECALL REPAIR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V226000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) BUT THE ISSUE RECURRED AGAIN. THE DEALER FRED BEANS HYUNDAI 4465 WEST SWAMP ROAD, DOYLESTOWN, PA 18902 (215) 345-8200 STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE THE ENGINE A SECOND TIME. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT SAME AS THE DEALER. THE REPLACEMENT COST WOULD BE THE CONTACT'S TO PAY. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
I HAVE A 2013 HYUNDAI SANTA FE LIMITED WITH MAJOR ENGINE OIL PROBLEMS V6 3.3LITER ENGINE ALUMINUM ENGINE ALUMINUM PARTS AND DUE TO ( BAD DESIGN ) ODM 95400 MILES. I TOOK MY CAR TO HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP MY CAR WAS IN AND OUT OF THEIR SHOP FOR 2 MONTHS THEY COULD NOT FIX IT. I TOOK IT TO AN OUTSIDE MECHANIC AND THEY CANNOT FIX THE OIL LEAK. 10 OF THE CYLINDER HEAD BOLTS THREAD HAD PULLED OUT OF THE BLOCK . I CALLED HYUNDAI CORPORATE ASKED THEM TO FILE MY CAR UNDER THE LEMON LAW , CASE # 17317214 . HYUNDAI CORPORATE COULD NOT GET ANY INFO FROM THE DEALERSHIP SO AFTER A MONTH LONG OF WAITING CORPORATE EMAILED ME AND SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. I DON'T EVEN WANNA DRIVE MY CAR SHOULD IT BREAD DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY IT COULD CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT. DUE TO ME BEING THE SECOND OWNER NO WARRANTY. I ALSO BELIEVE THAT EVERYONE THAT HAS THE SAME CAR/ENGINE IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE.
MY CAR WAS STALLING, AT A STOP LIGHT, WOULDN'T START UP AT HOME AND WOULDN'T START AT WORK. CALLED TRIPLE AAA AND PURCHASED A BATTERY FROM THEM, HOWEVER I HAD THE OLD BATTERY TESTED AND IT WAS STILL GOOD. TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE MY CAR WAS LEAKING OIL AFTER 2 MONTHS BACK AND FORTH IN THEIR SHOP THEY COULD NOT FIND THE ISSUE. I CALLED CORPORATE TO FILE A COMPLAINT A FEW TIMES AND WAS ALWAYS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY CAN DO BECAUSE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. I TOOK MY CAR TO AN OUTSIDE MECHANIC WITHIN 30MINS THEY FOUND THE ISSUE. WHEN THE TECH REMOVED THE CYLINDER HEAD 6 OF THE REAR HEAD BOLTS WERE LOOSE AND THE THREADS HAD PULLED OUT OF THE BLOCK AND 4 FROM THE FRONT HEAD. TECH DRILLED OUT ALL REAR BLOCK HEAD BOLT HOLES AND INSTALLED TIME SERTS AND THE 4 IN THE FRONT HEAD. AFTER REPAIR NO MORE OIL LEAKS. I CALLED HYUNDAI CORPORATE BECAUSE OF THERE DESIGN FAILURE IT WAS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO PAY FOR IT $4526.02. AGAIN HYUNDAI SAID THEY WERE NOT LIABLE. I WANT TO BE REIMBURSE FOR ALL MY OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES.
MERGED INTO I-95/THRUWAY FROM DUNKIN DONUTS AND NOTICED THE VEHICLE HAVING DIFFICULTY GOING UP SLIGHT HILL. THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T ACCELERATE AND HAD A LIGHT NEW NOISE. I PULLED ONTO THE SHOULDER AND NOTICED A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, OPEN THE HOOD NOTICED HEAT COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD BUT NOTHING NOTICEABLE. TRIED TO TURN THE VEHICLE BACK ON AND IT WOULDN'T TURN ON. HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO NEAREST MECHANIC WHO SAID THEY WOULDN'T TOUCH IT BECAUSE IT SEEMS LIKE AN ENGINE ISSUE AND TAKE IT TO HYUNDAI. ALL THE HYUNDAIS NEARBY WERE CLOSING AND COULDN'T HELP FOR 2 DAYS. HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED BACK TO MY BOROUGH ALMOST 2 HOURS AWAY. VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY SITTING THE HYUNDAI SERVICE TO BE LOOKED AT IN 2 DAYS AND NO GUIDANCE ON WHAT TO DO IN THE MEANTIME BESIDES CALL YOUR INSURANCE. THANKFUL WE CAUGHT THE ISSUE AND PULLED OVER BEFORE IT COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. OTHERWISE 5 PEOPLE INCLUDING A 4 YEAR OLD WOULD HAVE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT WITH ANOTHER/OTHER VEHICLES BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OR TURN ON AFTER I PULLED ONTO THE SHOULDER. THE VEHICLE HAS 42,000 MILES ON IT, PURCHASED CPO 4 YEARS AGO AT HYUNDAI ALONG WITH TLP AND FULL COVERAGE. FIRST TIME THIS CAR EVER GAVE US ANY ISSUE. NO WARNING SIGNS BETWEEN THE DUNKIN AND THE INCIDENT 4 MILES OF GUT FEELING SAYING PULL OVER SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT.
MY HYUNDAI SANTA FE GLS RECENTLY SEIZED MID DRIVE. THERE WAS NO PRIOR WARNING, NO LIGHTS INCLUDING OIL LIGHT OR ENGINE LIGHT. THE CAR, WHICH HAS BEEN SERVICED THROUGH THIS DEALERSHIP AND PURCHASED THROUGH THIS DEALERSHIP IS UNDRIVEABLE AND ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY DO NOT KNOW WHY AND HYUNDAI IS "NOW TIGHT IN THE PURSE" AND WON'T FIX ISSUES WITH THEIR CARS SINCE COVID. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS TYPE OF CIRCUMSTANCE WAS SEEN WITH THE ELANTRA, BUT NOT THE SANTA FE BEFORE. I AM ADVISED THAT THIS VEHICLE, WHICH IS THE THIRD HYUNDAI I HAVE PURCHASED AND STILL MAKE LOAN PAYMENTS ON IS NOW A LEMON AND I WOULD BE BETTER SUITED TO GET A NEW MOTOR FROM A JUNK YARD. I AM A FAMILY OF SIX PEOPLE AND JUST RECENTLY MOVED INTO A NEW HOME, SO HAVING AN UNUSABLE VEHICLE AND BEING ABLE TO FUND A NEW MOTOR IN WHAT WAS TOLD TO ME IS A QUALITY CAR IS NOT OK. DESPITE THIS, IT IS STILL UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES OK THAT A VEHICLE LIKE THIS SHOULD HAVE A MOTOR JUST QUIT. ACCORDING TO ARTICLES ONLINE, I SEE THAT THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR/MAKE/MODEL. THE MAN AT THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT DISCUSS ANY FURTHER AND WILL OFFER VERY LITTLE INFORMATION. I AM AT AN UTTER LOSS. I HAVE BEEN A GOOD CUSTOMER. I HAVE A FAMILY. PLEASE, PLEASE HELP. PLEASE.
I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE HAD JUST MERGED OFF THE HIGHWAY AND NOTICED THAT ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD FLASHED AND THE VEHICLE HAD STOPPED WHILE I WAS DRIVING STILL IN PARK. I TRIED TO PUT THE CAR ON IN PARK BUT IT WOULDN'T ALLOW ME TO THE CAR ROLLED BACK WHILE STILL IN DRIVE. I CUT THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN AND WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE NEXT LIGHT WHERE THE CAR CUT OFF COMPLETELY STILL IN DRIVE DURING ONCOMING TRAFFIC AGAIN. THE PASSENGER DRIVER WAS ABLE TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON PLACE THE CAR IN REVERSE INTO AN PARKING LOT WHERE I CALLED FOR A TOW TRUCK CAUSE THE CAR WOULD NEVER START BACK UP. WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINE LOCKED UP ON AFTER HAVING SEVERAL MECHANICS LOOK AT THE VEHICLE AND STILL TODAY I HAVE A CAR THAT I JUST PURCHASED IN MAY AND CAN'T DRIVE DUE TO THE ENGINE LOCKING UP.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNDISCLOSED SPEED, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITH THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT AND SEVERAL OTHER UNKNOWN WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A LARGE QUANTITY OF OIL UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V226000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE BILL HOOD FORD LOCATED AT 1500 N MORRISON BLVD, HAMMOND, LA 70401 WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 168,000.
I WAS DRIVING THROUGH THE HIGHWAY AT 80MPH AND I JUST LOST POWER. CHECK ENGINE AND OIL WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. WHEN I TURNED THE CAR ON TO EXIT HIGHWAY I HEARD A KNOCKING SOUND COMING FROM ENGINE. BASICALLY I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. I FOUND OUT THE NEXT DAY ABOUT A RECALL 162 ABOUT ENGINE FAILURE FOR THIS MODEL. I CONTACTED HYUNDAI USA BECAUSE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN THE US AND AFTER 5 DAYS NOT HEARING FROM THEM I DECIDED TO CALL BACK ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT THE CASE HAS NOT BEEN HANDLED YET. SO NOW I AM BEING TOLD THAT THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING FOR ME. I AM LEFT WITH A RECALL THAT IS NOT MY RESPONSIBILITY. WAY TO GO HYUNDAI. *TR
DRIVING ON A 45 MPH ROAD THE ENGINE LOST ACCELERATION
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2013 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND CALLED STERLING MCCALL CHEVROLET (17800 NORTH FWY, HOUSTON, TX 77090) WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE DEALER WAS UNABLE ASSIST WITH THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THEIR RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE LOCAL DEALER FOR ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN UNKNOWN DEALER HOWEVER, NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT SHE WAS NOT INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V226000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
THERE'S A LEAK LEADING TOWARDS THE GAS TANK. I WENT TO GET IT DIAGNOSE AND THAT WHAT IT SAID. BUT DONT KNOW WHERE THE LEAK IS COMING FROM.
THE CHECK ENGINE CAME ON AND A FEW MINUTES LATER, BEGAN FLASHING. THE CAR BROKE DOWN ON THE SIDE OF I-95. WE HAD IT TOWED TO A MECHANIC WHO SAID THE "ENGINE IS BLOWN"
MANY TIME MY HYUNDAI ENGINE HESITATES WHEN STARTING OFF. ONLY DOES THIS OCCASIONALLY. MY 2013 SANTE FE HAS DONE THIS HESITATION SEVERAL TIMES WHEN I DO NOT EXPECT IT TO BE DONE. THE DEALER HAS CHECK IT AND ADJUSTED IT BUT STILL HESITATES, BUT NOT OFTEN.DEALER INDICATES THAT THERE IS NO RECALL. HAPPENS WHEN I AM STARTING OFF.
COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE AT 105K MILES, OIL WAS PRESENT IN FAILED ENGINE AND WAS NOT THE CAUSE OF ENGINE FAILURE. 5 MONTHS AND I AM STILL WAITING FOR A NEW ENGINE FROM HYUNDAI.
VEHICLE WAS IN THE DEALERSHIP FOR SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN 162 ON 11/6/19. DEALERSHIP INSTRUCTED ME TO GET AN OIL CHANGE, DRIVE MY VEHICLE, AND RETURN EVERY 700-1000 MILES TO HAVE OIL LEVELS CHECKED. I COMPLIED AND DROVE MY VEHICLE ON A SHORT TRIP ON 11/8/19. AT APPROXIMATELY 8:30 PM, AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, MY VEHICLE'S ENGINE SEIZED AND I LOST ALL POWER TO MY VEHICLE. MY WIFE AND 2 CHILDREN (4 AND 6) WERE IN THE VEHICLE. WE WERE ABLE TO COAST OFF OF THE ROAD AND INTO A GAS STATION PARKING LOT. I CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD BE MY RESPONSIBILITY TO TOW THE VEHICLE, FIND IMMEDIATE TRANSPORTATION, AND PAY FOR A RENTAL VEHICLE UNTIL IT HAD BEEN DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE FAILURE WAS DUE TO HYUNDAI SAFETY RECALL 162. I FEEL THAT MY FAMILY'S SAFETY WAS UNNECESSARILY PUT AT RISK AS I HAD MY VEHICLE AT THE DEALERSHIP TWO DAYS PRIOR FOR THIS EXACT RECALL. THE ORIGINAL DEALERSHIP EXAMINING THE VEHICLE IS CHECKERED FLAG HYUNDAI. BECAUSE I WAS OUT OF TOWN, MY VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO TYSINGER HYUNDAI WHERE IT IS CURRENTLY LOCATED AWAITING AN ENGINE REPLACEMENT.
WE WERE DRIVING DOWN 231 WHEN SUDDENLY MY CAR STOPS AND WE TRY TO GET IN NON TRAFFIC...WHEN WE GO TO CRANK IT...IT SOUNDS LIKE THE ENGINE IS FALLING APART...WE HAVE REGULAR OIL CHANGES! NOW THEY SAY MY ENGINE IS BLOWN? WHAT IS GOING ON HERE? RECALL
WHILE UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS, AFTER OPERATING FOR APPROX. 10 MINUTES, I WAS DRIVING ON A STATE ROUTE WITH TRAFFIC AND THE ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. NO WARNING, NO DASH WARNING LIGHTS, NOT STALLING OF ENGINE, IT SIMPLY SHUT OFF. HAD TO PULL OFF SIDE OF ROAD, THRU TRAFFIC, AND LEAVE VEHICLE SITTING UNTIL IT COULD BE TOWED.
2013 HYUNDAI SANTA FE SPORT - HAD ENGINE REPLACED DUE TO RECALL END OF JUNE 2019. OCTOBER 6TH CAR STARED BUCKING AND UNABLE TO GO MORE THAN 3-5 MPH WITH PEDAL TO FLOOR. CAR TOWED TO HYUNDAI WHO AFTER INSPECTION SAID IT WAS THROTTLE BODY. COST TO REPAIR WAS JUST ABOUT $900. HAD TO RENT CAR IN ORDER TO GET TO WORK. PICKED UP CAR ON MONDAY NIGHT. WEDNESDAY MORNING MADE IT ABOUT 2 MILES FROM HOUSE AND CAR DID EXACTLY THE SAME THING. HAD IT TOWED TO HYUNDAI AGAIN!!! THE PROVIDED A RENTAL CAR THIS TIME. THEY RESET CODE AND CHECKED THAT THROTTLE BODY WAS PROPERLY INSTALLED AND THAT ALL CONNECTIONS TIGHT. HYUNDAI SAID THEY DROVE CAR FOR 60 MILES AND COULD NOT REPLICATE PROBLEM. PRIOR TO PICK UP I INFORMED HYUNDAI SERVICE MANAGER THAT I WAS NOT CONFIDENT THAT THEY FIXED PROBLEM. PICKED UP CAR FRIDAY. IT IS NOW MONDAY MORNING (3 DAYS LATER) AND DIDN'T EVEN MAKE IT OUT OF MY DEVELOPMENT. SAME PROBLEM!!! SHAME ON HYUNDAI!!! I AM FEARFUL TO DRIVE THIS CAR EVEN IF THEY FIX THIS PROBLEM. DON'T TRUST THAT ENGINE REPLACEMENT WAS DONE CORRECTLY.
AT LESS THAN 73,000 MILES, MY ENGINE STARTED "KNOCKING" ON MY 2013 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. BROUGHT IT IN TO TONY HYUNDAI WAPAIO FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. METAL SHAVINGS WERE FOUND IN THE OIL. OFFICIAL ASSESSMENT: PREMATURE BEARING WEAR WITHIN THE ENGINE.
ENGINE FAILED ON HIGHWAY, HAD TO PULL OVER AND CAR NEVER STARTED BACK UP.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AROUND 65MPH WITH MY WIFE AND 6 MONTH OLD WHEN I REALIZED THAT APPLYING THE GAS PEDAL WAS HAVING NO EFFECT. THE TACHOMETER SHOWED 0 RPM. I APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT THEY WERE VERY HARD TO PRESS. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL OVER. WE THEN NOTICED A BURNING SMELL AND A LITTLE SMOKE AND GOT OUT OF THE CAR. THE VEHICLE WOULD MAKE NO ATTEMPT TO START AND HAD TO BE TOWED. THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP HAS TOLD ME THE CRANKSHAFT SEIZED. THEY ARE SUBMITTING DOCUMENTATION TO HYUNDAI FOR WARRANTY AUTHORIZATION RELATED TO THE RECALLS INVOLVING ENGINE FIRES. THE VEHICLE GAVE NO WARNING THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG UNTIL AFTER THE ENGINE STOPPED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE HESITATED AND SEIZED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, BUT IT CONTINUED TO HESITATE WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BEARING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT ASSOCIATED THE FAILURE WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V226000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE CONTACT CALLED HYUNDAI OF CUMMING (LOCATED AT 750 PEACHTREE PKWY, CUMMING, GA 30041, (470) 281-9228) AND INFORMED THEM OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
MY ENGINE IS VERY LOUD AND IS KNOCKING. I HAVE A FEW FRIENDS WHO HAVE THE SAME VEHICLE AND THEIRS IS QUITE BARELY HEAR IT RUNNING. I SENT A LETTER TO THE HYUNDAI CORPORATE OFFICE TO COMPLAINT HEARD NOTHING BACK MY VEHICLE HAS A LITTLE OVER 64,000 MILES ONE OF MY FRIENDS HAS 93,000 MILES AND HER SANTA FE IS QUITE. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE IS SOMETHING GOING ON WITH MY VEHICLE,ALSO THE OILD STICK LOOKS BURNT.
HAD OIL CHANGED 1,100 MILES AGO. THREW A ROD, RUINED ENGINE. MECHANIC SAID MY DIPSTICK WAS 'BONE DRY'. IT WASN'T EVEN TOUCHING THE OIL. MY OIL WAS CHANGED AT THE DEALERSHIP. I'VE BEEN TOLD BY ENGINE PARTS SUPPLIER THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH MY YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL. HE DIDN'T KNOW THE DETAILS OF MY ISSUE AT ALL. YET DESCRIBED IT PERFECTLY . I WAS DRIVING ON A BUSY HIGHWAY WHEN ENGINE FAILED. I WAS TRAVELING 65 MPH WHICH WAS THE SPEED LIMIT. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO SIDE OF ROAD.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE EMITTED A LOUD SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE, THE VEHICLE SEIZED, AND WOULD NOT RESTART. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS PUSHED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS ENGINE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V226000 (ENGINE), BUT NEVER HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE VIN TOOL DID NOT SHOW AN OPEN RECALL. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. WHILE DRIVING UP A HILL, THE VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESTART AND THE OIL LEVEL WAS ON EMPTY. THERE WAS NO WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL REGARDING AN OIL SHORTAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE ENGINE SEIZED. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE OIL TANK OR ANY EVIDENCE OF AN OIL LEAK. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 109,500.
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING AND THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD. FIGURED IT WAS THE ALTERNATOR, CHANGED IT OUT AND NOW THE CAR MAKES A VERY LOUD CLICKING NOISE. HAD IT DIAGNOSED AND IT NEEDS NEW LIFTERS ALONG WITH POSSIBLE MACHINING OF THE PISTONS/HEAD TO GET THEM SMOOTH AND THE MECHANIC STATED THE CAR WAS A FEW HUNDRED REVOLUTIONS FROM SEIZING. ADDITIONALLY THERE WERE SMALL METAL SHAVINGS IN THE OIL WHEN CHANGED, WAS TOLD IT WAS A TOP END PROBLEM (HENCE THE LIFTERS). I CALLED THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP IN DOVER DE AND THEY STATED THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE BUT NO RECALL SO THEY'RE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR FIXING IT!!
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN I ACCELERATED TO PASS A CAR, IT STARTED TO LOSE POWER. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS AN ENGINE RECALL THAT I WAS NOT INFORMED ABOUT. THEY DIDN'T HAVE A LOANER FOR ME SO I HAD TO RENT A CAR UNTIL ONE BECAME AVAILABLE. THEY HAD THE CAR FOR 3 MONTHS. 1 MONTH LATER SAME EXACT PROBLEM. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD IT WAS BECAUSE OF THE RECALL. WHY WOULD THIS HAPPEN AGAIN WITH A NEW ENGINE? I WAS TOLD THEY GOT A BAD BATCH OF ENGINES AND A NEW ENGINE WAS REPLACED WITH A NEWER ENGINE. THIS TIME THEY HAD THE CAR FOR A MONTH. I PICK UP THE CAR 4 DAYS LATER SAME PROBLEM. I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO TURN. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH HYUNDAI USA AND I AM WAITING TO HEAR BACK.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT HAD TO EXIT THE VEHICLE AND PUSH IT OFF THE RAILROAD TRACK. THE CONTACT CALLED ELYRIA HYUNDAI (LOCATED AT 845 LEONA ST, ELYRIA, OH, 44035, (440) 324-770) AND WAS INFORMED THAT ALL THE RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE WERE COMPLETED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 144,000.
SHORT VERSION- THIS CAR STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF HIGHWAY TRAFFIC AND WOULD NOT START AGAIN, CREATING A TRAFFIC HAZARD AND REQUIRED TOWING AND HYUNDAI DEALER SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. LATER IT ALSO CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE MOVING IN A PARKING LOT. THERE WAS SMOKE INSIDE THE CAR AND SMOKING COMING OUT THE FRONT GRILL. IT HAS SEVERAL KNOWN FACTORY MANUFACTURE KNOWN ISSUES THAT ARE WELL DOCUMENTED NATIONWIDE TO CREATE ENGINE FIRES, STALLING, SEIZED ENGINES, JUST LIKE OURS. . HYUNDAI REFUSES TO REMEDY. HYUNDAI ALSO DID A SOFTWARE UPDATE TO PREVENT ENGINE SEIZURE ON AN ALREADY DEAD MOTOR, THAT IS NOT PERFORMING ITS SAFETY FEATURES AS DESIGNED AND THEY WILL NOT REMEDY. THEY ARE CHARGING US FOR THE MOTOR THAT IS STILL DEFECTIVE, AND A SAFETY ISSUE, AND THEY WILL NOT FIX THEIR FACTORY DEFECT LEMON CAR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO START THE ENGINE, IT TURNED OVER AND TOOK MORE THAN ONE ATTEMPT TO START. ALSO, THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. I WAS DRIVING ON A TWO LINE HIGHWAY IN THE COUNTRY AND AS I WENT TO ACCELERATE THE CAR ENGINE QUIT. I COULD NOT RESTART THE CAR. AS I WAS PULLING OFF TO THE SIDE I SAW SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE ENGINE OR HOOD. I GOT MY DAUGHTER AND MYSELF OUT OF THE CAR SAFELY AND ONCE WE STEPPED AWAY FROM THE CAR I SAW AN ORANGE GLOW IN THE ENGINE AND THEN THAT GLOW BURST INTO FLAMES. I WAS IN MOTION AND I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT WITHOUT TURNING. I BELIEVE I WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 45 MILES AN HOUR AND ACCELERATED WHEN THE CAR ENGINE DIED. WE DID SMELL GAS AS I WAS PULLING OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE COUNTRY ROAD. I DID NOT HAVE A COLLISION, AN ACCIDENT OR HIT ANYTHING IN THE ROAD. AGAIN, I STARTED TO ACCELERATE AND THE ENGINE DIED. I HAD CONTROL TO GET THE CAR OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE COUNTRY ROAD. I WAS SURROUNDED PRIMARILY BY FARM FIELDS AND NO SIDEWALKS. I WAS ON ROUTE 47 AND I WAS ON THE STRAIGHT PART OF THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT ANY BENDS. I CALLED NINE-ONE-ONE IMMEDIATELY AND THEY DISPATCHED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND THE POLICE DEPARTMENT.. THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED AND THE CAR TOWED TO MY PREFERRED AUTO SHOP. THIS HAPPENED ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 11TH, 2019 AT APPROXIMATELY 5:15 P.M. THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE WAS APPROXIMATELY 16 DEGREES. I HAVE CALLED MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND THEY ARE SENDING OUT SOMEONE TO LOOK AT IT.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN A 4 LANE DIVIDED STATE HIGHWAY I STARTED TO HEAR A CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM FRONT OF CAR; BUT CAR WAS STILL RUNNING. GOT WORSE AND STARTED HESITATING A LITTLE AS I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL. I GOT STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. WHEN I STARTED OFF FROM BEING STOPPED IT WOULD BARELY GO, THEN IT DIED. WITHIN A FEW MINUTES I NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE, GOT OUT AND SAW FLAMES COMING OUT OF GRILL AREA AND UNDERNEATH THE ENGINE AREA. CALLED 911, CAR WAS ON FIRE! I HAVE MANY VIDEOS OF THE INCIDENT. I HAD NO PREVIOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR BEFORE NOW.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE ON FRIDAY, JUNE 29, 2018 IN MY 2013 HYUNDAI SANTA FE LIMITED 3.3L V6 AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I HEAR SOMETHING SIMILAR TO A SHOTGUN GOING OFF & MY CAR BEGAN TO STALL AND I NOTICED SMOKE & FLAMES FROM THE SIDEVIEW MIRRORS AS I COULDN'T SEE OUT OF THE REARVIEW MIRROR. LUCKILY NO ONE BEHIND ME WAS INJURED BEHIND ME SINCE ENGINE PARTS & SMOKE FROM THE OIL POURING OUT ON THE SIDE OF THE BLOCK. ONCE I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER ON THE EXIT RAMP I NOTICED MY VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE & LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FLAMES. I CALLED A WRECKER SERVICE & UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I NOTICED A BIG GAPING HOLE IN THE ENGINE BLOCK. MY CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP CRENSHAW HYUNDAI ON JULY 3, WHERE IT HAS REMAINED & NO ONE HAS CONTACTED ME SINCE. I HAVE CONTACTED THEM ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS & HAVE MET WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER WHO ADVISED ME THAT HYUNDAI INSTRUCTED HIS TEAM TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE FOR NEGLIGENCE ON MY BEHALF WHICH THEY DID NOT FIND AND WAS BACKED UP BY ALL SERVICE RECORDS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2013 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE COMING THROUGH THE AIR VENTS. HE THEN OBSERVED FLAMES UNDER THE HOOD. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. I CHECKED THE DIPSTICK THE ONCE HONEY COLORED OIL WAS BLACK WITH METTALIC AND BRASS COLORED SHAVINGS EVERYWERE, I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TOWED BACK TO TENNESSEE. I LET THE DEALERSHIP KNOW WHAT HAPPENED MIKE THE CAR SALESMAN SAID TO BRING IT IN SO THE NEXT DAY MY WIFE, TODDLER, AND I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT DROPPED OFF ORIGINALLY THEY DIDN'T HELP OF PUT IN ANY EFFORT TO HELP US AND THE SALESMAN WAS OFF THAT DAY THE SERVICE ADVISOR BRIAN HE SAID THERE WASNT ANY PAST RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE AT LEAST WHAT SHOWED UP ON THEIR SYSTEM. MY WIFE LOOKED UP VIN HISTORY AND FOUND THAT IT SUPPOSEDLY HAD ENGINE WORK FOR A RECALL. THE GUY STILL DIDN'T HELP ME EVEN AFTER I TOLD HIM I WILL PAY TO HAVE IT DIEGNOSED. WELL A FEW DAYS LATER CORPORATE CALLED ME AFTER I POSTED THIS STORY ON THIER ADVERTISEMENT THEY HAD FOR A HYUNDAI SONATA FE. CORPORATE MUST HAVE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THIS TIME THEY WERE APOLOGETIC AND FRIENDLY THEY SAID BRING YOUR VEHICLE BACK BACK TO US AND WE'LL HELP YOU UNLOAD IT AND GET IT DIAGNOSED. I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE TO WORK AND THE ENGINE STOPS AND ALL THE DASH LIGHTS ARE ON. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT EVEN TURN OVER LET ALONE START. I HAD AAA TOW THE VEHICLE TO MY HOUSE AND AFTER PUTTING A WRENCH ON THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY BOLT AND PHYSICALLY TRYING TO TURN THE MOTOR OVER I REALIZED THE MOTOR IS SEIZED. I HAD NOTICED AFTER DRAINING MY OIL DURING ALL THE PRIOR OIL CHANGES, THE VEHICLE WAS LOSING OIL. THERE IS NO SIGNS OF THE ENGINE LEAKING OIL EXTERNALLY SO IT HAS TO BE AN INTERNAL MALFUNCTION ON THE ENGINE. KNOWING THIS I WOULD CHECK AND ADD OIL AS NEEDED BETWEEN Y OIL CHANGES. THE ENGINE HAD PLENTY OF OIL BEFORE AND AFTER THE ENGINE FAILED. SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH MY ENGINE FROM DAY ONE FROM THE FACTORY. I GUARANTEE THIS ENGINE FAILED BECAUSE OF THE FACTORY THAT ASSEMBLED THE ENGINE.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2013 HYUNDAI SANTA FE HAD SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. WHILE DRIVING ON I-95 ATTEMPTING TO PASS ANOTHER CAR, THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER. BARELY MANAGED TO MANEUVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. CAR WOULD NOT TURN OVER. AFTER BEING TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, DEALER INFORMED US THE NEXT DAY THAT THE ENGINE WAS BLOWN AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. I KNOW THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE BECAUSE WE HAD THE CAR AT THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT A WEEK PRIOR FOR THEM TO "CHECK" IT! THEREIN LIES MY COMPLAINT - I QUESTION WHETHER HYUNDAI'S PROCEDURES FOR THIS RECALL ARE ADEQUATE. ALTHOUGH THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ENGINE WILL PROBABLY BE COVERED BY WARRANTY/RECALL (WE HAVEN'T GOTTEN OFFICIAL CONFIRMATION YET), MY SAFETY WAS UNNECESSARILY JEOPARDIZED. NOT TO MENTION THE COST INVOLVED FOR TOWING AND REPLACEMENT CAR RENTAL.
MY WIFE AND I WENT OUT FOR A RIDE, I NOTICE A LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING ON 95S IN RHODE ISLAND, I STARTED TO PULL OVER TO THE BREAK DOWN LANE WHEN I NOTICE SMOKE OUT OF THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE, I CAME TO A STOP AND THE CAR FILLED UP WITH SMOKE , I TOLD MY WIFE TO GET OUT AND I GOT OUT BUT COULD NOT SEE, I YELLED FOR MY WIFE AS I COULD NOT SEE HER, THE FIRE DEPT CAME AND SAID THEY THINK THE TURBO BLEW, I PAID OVER $300 TO HAVE IT TOWED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHICH CONFIRMED THE ISSUE AND IT WILL COST OVER $3000 TO REPAIR, THIS IS RIDICULOUS THE CAR ONLY HAS 113,000 MILES ON IT AND I TAKE CARE OF IT OIL CHANGES ETC AT THE DEALERSHIP. I HAVE READ ONLINE THAT NUMEROUS FOLKS HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE, I BELIEVE THEY HAVE A FAULT ENGINE, THEY ALREADY HAVE ONE ENGINE RECALL ISSUE WITH METAL IN THEIR ENGINE, PLEASE LOOK INTOTO THIS, WE WERE ALMOST KILLED DUE TO THE SMOKE AND ONCOMING TRAFFIC NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE.

WEDNESDAY MY CAR STALLED AT THE STOP LIGHT WHILE IN DRIVE WITH THE BRAKE ON. THEN 2 DAYS LATER DOWN THE INTERSTATE MY ENGINE STARTED KNOCKING VERY LOUDLY SO I PULLED OVER AND GOT IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. THEY REPORTED THE ENGINE HAS FAILED AND WILL SEE WHAT THEY CAN DO ABOUT THE RECALL.
ENGINE SEIZED, THANKFULLY I WAS BARELY LEAVING MY HOME. ENGINE TOTALLY FAILED WITH NO WARNING. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS WENT ON UNTIL AFTER THE ENGINE FAILED. ENGINE ALSO BEGAN SMOKING. HYUNDAI CONCLUDED THE CAR HAD TOTAL ENGINE FAILURE. THE CAR RECEIVED REGULAR MAINTENANCE/ OIL CHANGES AND TAKEN CARE OF. BEING A 2013 SHOULD NOT HAVE HAD ENGINE FAILURE.

NOTICE HESITATION WITH VEHICLE WHEN ACCELERATING BOTH ON HIGHWAYS OR FROM LOWER SPEEDS ON ANY ROADS. I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH AND STARTED A FAINT RATTELLING NOISE COMING FROM THE MOTOR COMPARTMENT. I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE A WHEEL BEARING.TRAVELED 3-4 MORE MILES, THEN WITH WHAT I WOULD DESCRIBE AS COMPLETE MOTOR FAILURE, ALOUD CLATTERING NOISE FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND LOSE OF POWER HAPPENED. I IMMEDIETLY PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY A AND SND LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD. I CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL AND IT WAS FINE, BUT IT WAS VERY BLACK AND SMELLED BURNT. I CALLED FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND THE VEHICLE WAS HAULED TO THE NEAREST HYUNDAI DEALER. 1ST THING THE SERVICE DEPT. PERSON DID WAS CHECK THE OIL AND SAID THAT IT WAS FINE ALSO. THEY THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE INSIDE, THEY DROP THE OIL PAN AND FOUND PIECES OF METAL THEY THOUGHT TO BE FROM BEARINGS FROM THE BOTTOM END OF THE MOTOR. I HAD JUST BOUGHT THIS USED VEHICLE IN SEPTEMBER 2016 AND THE MOTOR FAILED IN NOVEMBER 2016 ALMOST 2 MONTHS TO THE DAY I BOUGHT IT. IT WAS PURCHASED FROM A HYUNDAI DEALER SO THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AND CERTIFIED. THE MOTOR AND THE TURBO BOTH HAD TO BE REPLACED AT THE COST OF $6364.11 OUT OF MY POCKET. THE SERVICE MANAGER TRIED TO GET SOME SORT OF GOODWILL HELP FROM HYUNDAI AND THEY REFUSED. TO SAY I'M NOT HAPPY IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT, I DID FILE A COMPLAINT WITH HYUNDAI MOTORS USA. I'VE BEEN DOING INVESTIGATING ON THE INTERNET AND I'M FINDING OTHER PEOPLE WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THEIR 2013 2.0T SANTA FE'S.

WE WERE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY AROUND 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY WITH NO PRIOR WARNING, NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, NO OVERHEATING.... THE ENGINE HAS OIL AND THE RADIATOR IS FULL OF ANTIFREEZE. WE TOOK IT TO A HYUNDAI DEALER, THEY ADVISED THE ENGINE IS LOCKED UP AND WE NEED NEW ENGINE THAT COSTS $8500.00. ACCORDING TO SOME REVIEWS ON THE INTERNET, THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MANY PEOPLE AND HYUNDAI ENDED UP REPLACING THE ENGINES FOR THEM. I CALLED HYUNDAI CUSTOMER CARE CENTER, THEY REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT BECAUSE THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY PERIOD (79K MILES). IT LOOKS LIKE THIS IS A COMMON DEFECT IN THESE CARS AND THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD RECALL THESE ENGINES.
WHILE ACCELERATING TO MERGE WITH TRAFFIC THE ENGINE BEGAN MAKING A RATTLING SOUND. AS I LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO JOIN THE TRAFFIC FLOW THE ENGINE NOISE STOPPED. IT CAME BACK A FEW MORE TIMES BEFORE WE MADE IT HOME. THE NEXT DAY WHILE DESCENDING A HILL THE ENGINE QUIT. SINCE IT WAS DOWN HILL MY WIFE WAS ABLE TO COAST ONTO A EXIT RAMP AND PULL ONTO THE SHOULDER. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE ENGINE RESTARTED AND DROVE TO THE DEALER. THEY DETERMINED THERE WAS METAL DEBRIS IN THE OIL AND THE ENGINE NEEDED REPLACEMENT.
2013 HYUNDAI SANTA FE SPORT 2.0T TURBO WITH COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE AT 75000 MILES. ON 12/5/16 AT AROUND 7:00 PM, WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, SMOKE STARTED TO COME OUT OF THE CAR. AFTER PULLING OVER, LARGE AMOUNTS OF SMOKE WAS COMING OUT OF THE TAILPIPE. WE CUT OFF THE ENGINE AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO AUTONATION HYUNDAI MALL OF GEORGIA IN BUFORD GEORGIA. ON 12/6/16, WE RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE SERVICE ADVISOR STATING THE ENGINE WAS BLOWN, AND THAT A REPLACEMENT WAS NEEDED, BUT THAT IT WILL NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. A CALL TO HYUNDAI NATIONAL CUSTOMER CAR (S/W [XXX]) AT 8006335151-CASE 9790795, PRODUCED NO RESULTS AS [XXX] STATED THAT THE REPAIR WILL NOT BE COVERED BY HYUNDAI IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, FORM, OR AMOUNT. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON IN MY HYUNDAI ON SATURDAY. THE NEXT DAY, SUNDAY, I TOOK MY HYUNDAI SANTA FE SPORT 2013 TO THE CAR REPAIR FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. THE TECH SAID THE CODES WERE RELATED TO A TIMING BELT AND THAT WE COULD DRIVE IT SHORT DISTANCES AND BRING IT BACK LATER BEFORE CLOSING (5PM) BECAUSE THE REPAIR MECHANIC WOULD NOT BE IN UNTIL MONDAY. ON THE SAME DAY, SUNDAY, WE DROVE TO PICK UP A RENTAL CAR SO THAT MY HUYNDAI COULD GO BACK TO THE SHOP FOR THE MECHANIC ON MONDAY. WHILE DRIVING TO THE CAR RENTAL, WE PULLED INTO THE CAR RENTAL PARKING LOT AND MY HYUNDAI JUST STOPPED/SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING. IT WOULD NOT TURN BACK OVER. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK TO HAVE IT TOWED BACK TO THE CAR REPAIR. THE NEXT DAY, MONDAY, THE CAR REPAIR CALLED AND TOLD ME THAT MY ENGINE HAD SEIZED AND THAT A NEW ENGINE WOULD HAVE TO BE PURCHASED. I HAD MY HYUNDAI TOWED AGAIN ON THAT SAME DAY TO HYUNDAI SERVICE CENTER FOR A SECOND OPINION AND THEY SAID SOMETHING ABOUT MY CAMSHAFT AND THAT THE ENGINE HAD SEIZED AND THAT A NEW ENGINE WOULD HAVE TO BE PURCHASED. MY HYUNDAI HAD JUST HAD A TUNE-UP AND IT HAD OIL IN IT. WE CHECKED THE OIL ON SATURDAY. A BRAND NEW CAR WITH REGULAR OIL CHANGES AND MAINTENANCE DOES NOT JUST DECIDE TO GO KAPUT! I AM THANKFUL THAT WE WERE NOT DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AND THAT WE DID NOT LOSE OUR LIVES ON THAT SUNDAY.

WE RESTARTED THE CAR AND GAVE IT THE GAS AND IT QUIT AGAIN STILL NO ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON.WE WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND RESTARTED THE CAR AND GOT OFF THE INTERSTATE AND DROVE ON A SIDE ROAD TO SEE IF THE COMPUTER WOULD RESET ITSELF.WE HAD NO PROBLEM AFTER THAT.WE THEN TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER AND THEY WENT THROUGH THE VEHICLE AND COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG.I ASKED THE DEALER IF THIS COULD HAPPEN WHEN WE WERE GOING 65MPH AND HAVE THE ENGINE QUIT AND HE SAID YES.IF WERE ON THE INTERSTATE AND GOING 65-70MPH AND THE ENGINE QUITS WE COULD BE KILLED BY A TRUCK HITTING US.THIS IS OUR 3RD SANTA FE BUT WERE ARE TERRIFIED OF DRIVING THIS VEHICLE ESPECIALLY WITH THE GRAND KIDS.I DID CALL HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TREATED LIKE I WAS AN IDIOT HE WAS ONE OF THE WORST PERSON I HAVE EVER TALKED TO IN CUSTOMER SERVICE.THE REASON I'M SENDING THIS TO YOU SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED BECAUSE OF THIS. *JS
TOOK 2013 SANTA FE SPORT 2.0T AWD IN FOR ROUTINE APPOINTMENT AT LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER TO HAVE WARRANTY SERVICE ON FUEL FILLER DOOR (WHICH WAS NOT OPERATING DUE TO FAILURE TO RE-CONNECT SOLENOID DURING PRIOR RECALL - BEFORE DELIVERY - FOR DOOR LOCKS) AND ALSO TO CHECK ON "TAPPET NOISE" IN ENGINE. CONFIRMED THESE WOULD BE WARRANTY ITEMS BEFORE LEAVING. STUNNED TO RECEIVE CALL LATER THAT AFTERNOON INFORMING ME THAT METAL WAS FOUND IN ENGINE OIL AND HYUNDAI WOULD REPLACE ENGINE, AND WANTED OLD ENGINE FOR INSPECTION. APPROXIMATELY 1,000 MILES ON ODOMETER. VEHICLE WAS OPERATING NORMALLY. TAPPET NOISE TYPICALLY SUBSIDED AFTER "COLD" (I.E. GARAGED) START-UPS. EXPERIENCED ONE ENGINE "BACKFIRE" AT LOW SPEED ON SERVICE ROAD JUST AFTER LEAVING DEALER LOT ..... DAY OF PURCHASE. ALSO EXPERIENCED SOME VERY MINOR HESITATION / STUMBLE ON OCCASION WHEN ACCELERATING AFTER FULL STOP. OTHERWISE ENGINE PERFORMING NORMALLY AT CITY AND HIGHWAY SPEEDS. NOW SUSPECT THAT "TAPPET NOISE" MIGHT HAVE BEEN PISTON SLAP! NOISE WAS WORST AFTER RELEASING GAS PEDAL AT ABOUT 1,000 RPM, WITH RPM FALLING. SOUNDED LIKE AN OLD FARM TRACTOR. DEALER SAYS THEY JUST FINISHED REPLACING ENGINE ON ANOTHER 2013 SANTA FE TODAY. LOUSY FEELING TO HAVE LEMON LAW AS THE ONLY SAFETY NET AFTER TRADING IN A PERFECTLY GOOD 4WD TRUCK, AND THEN PAY THOUSANDS MORE! *TR
MY NEIGHBOR SOLD ME MY CAR. SO HE USUALLY WILL TAKE IT IN FOR MY OIL CHANGES TO SAVE ME THE TRIP. HE PICKED MY CAR UP AS USUAL AND HEADED TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHICH IS ABOUT 25 MILES AWAY. HE CALLED ME LESS THEN A HALF HOUR LATER SAYING THE CAR WAS BROKEN DOWN ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I WAS LIVID. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO CIRCLE HYUNDAI OF SHREWSBURY NJ. THEY DID NOT TOUCH THE CAR THE AFTERNOON IT CAME IN. THAT UPSET ME EVEN MORE. THE NEXT DAY I FINALLY RECEIVED A CALL IN LATE AFTERNOON THAT THE ENGINE SUFFERED A "CATASTROPHIC FAILURE:" MY ENGINE WAS SEIZED. I WAS TOLD MY OIL LEVEL WAS FINE. MY OIL WAS CLEAN. THE COULD NOT EXPLAIN THE CAUSE OF WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE. I WAS INFORMED THAT A NEW ENGINE WOULD BE INSTALLED. A LONG BLOCK. I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THE DEALER SINCE. I HAVE TO SAY, I DRIVE ALLOT FOR MY WORK. I ALSO TAKE AT LEAST TWO CROSS COUNTRY TRIPS A YEAR. I DON'T TRUST THIS VEHICLE ANYMORE. I FEEL I AM ENTITLED TO A NEW VEHICLE AT WHAT MY CURRENT LOAD DUE AMOUNT IS. HOW CAN I TRUST THIS CAR TO GET ME TO MY JOB? I SHOOT WEDDINGS FOR A LIVING. I AM PRETTY SURE A BRIDE IS NOT GOING TO WANT TO HEAR ABOUT MY CAR ENGINE SEIZING, THAT IS WHY I MISSED HER WEDDING CEREMONY. HYUNDAI SHOULD MAKE THIS RIGHT!!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE ENGINE FAILED TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS HOWEVER, A TROUBLE CODE WAS NOT DETECTED FOR THE MALFUNCTION. THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE ENGINE HAD SEIZED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I WAS AT A LIGHT, AS I LET GO OF THE BRAKE, I HEARD A LOUD CLANKING SOUND AND THE FRONT OF THE CAR SHOOK AND THE CAR IMMEDIATELY DIED. I TRIED TO RESTART, MADE THE SAME SOUND AND DIED. CALLED ROADSIDE AND HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP AFTER AN HOUR AND A HALF BEING STUCK AT A LIGHT/INTERSECTION. I WAS TOLD THE NEXT DAY THAT MY CAR SUFFERED A "CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE". NO CODES CAME UP. THEY DROPPED THE PAN AND SAID METAL PIECES FELL OUT! I WAS LIVID! I'VE ONLY HAD THE CAR LESS THAN A MONTH, ONLY ABOUT 1500 MILES AND THE ENGINE WENT OUT! THANK GOD, I JUST DROPPED THE KIDS OFF TO SCHOOL AND THE ROAD WASN'T SO BUSY AS TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I HAD NO WARNINGS FROM STARTING THE CAR, NO MESSAGES FROM BLUE LINK. SERVICE MANAGER AT DEALERSHIP STATES I WOULD NOT HAVE RECEIVED ANY WARNING, BECAUSE IT HAPPENED QUICK WHICH IS WHY IT IS LABELED AS "CATASTROPHIC FAILURE". WHAT IF THIS HAPPENED WITH MY KIDS IN THE CAR, ON THE FREEWAY, OR TRAVELING? SO A REPLACEMENT ENGINE IS BEING ORDERED FROM SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. I DON'T TRUST IT. I REPORTED IT TO CORPORATE, WHICH SENT TO REGIONAL OFFICE. AND I AM AWAITING A RESPONSE. I ORIGINALLY REQUESTED A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE BUT AFTER READING THE COMPLAINTS ON NHTSA, I WANT MY MONEY BACK. I DON'T TRUST THIS CAR ANYMORE, I DON'T FEEL SAFE AND I DON'T WANT THE THOUGHT IN THE BACK OF MY MIND THAT THERE COULD BE A CHANCE OF SOMETHING ELSE HAPPENING! MY HUSBAND IS DEPLOYED RIGHT NOW, AND WHAT I DESERVE IS SOME PEACE OF MIND AND NOT PUT MYSELF OR MY CHILDREN AT JEOPARDY OF A POSSIBLE REPEAT ENGINE FAILURE, CRACKED FRONT AXLE, ISSUES WITH ACCELERATION OR WHATEVER ELSE THAT CAN OCCUR THAT I'VE READ ON THIS SITE. THIS IS A DEFINITE SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD NOT HAVE TO WAIT FOR MORE COMPLAINTS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! PLEASE HELP ME RESOLVE THIS WITH GETTING MY MONEY BACK! A BRAND NEW CAR SHOULD NOT HAVE SUFFERED A CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE! *TR
WHILE DRIVING OUR 2013 HYUNDAI SANTA FE SPORT 4CYL. ON THE MASS. TURNPIKE, 200 MILES FROM HOME, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STARTED TO RUN VERY ROUGH. MY SON BOUGHT THE CAR INTO THE RIGHT HAND LANE AND ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF AS HE INVESTIGATED THE PROBLEM. NO DAMAGE WAS VISIBLE. AS THE CAR WAS RESTARTED, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR CONTINUED TO RUN VERY ROUGH AND SHOOK. WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF THE MASS. STATE POLICE, THE CAR WAS REMOVED FROM THE TURNPIKE TO AWAIT ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A NEARBY HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. THE FOLLOWING DAY THE SERVICE MANAGER CALLED TO SAY THAT THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN FOUND. A SPARK PLUG IN CYLINDER 2 HAD BROKEN, WITH THE BROKEN PIECE MISSING. THEREFORE, THE ENGINE HAS TO BE DISMANTLED AND INSPECTED FOR ADDITIONAL DAMAGE UNTIL THE LOOSE PART IS FOUND. WE ARE VERY DISAPPOINTED IN OUR RECENT PURCHASE AND WONDER IF THE REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE ENGINE IN A 3 1/2 MONTH OLD CAR WITH LESS THAN 4,500 MILES ON IT IS A CAR THAT WE WILL FEEL SAFE IN AGAIN. THERE HAS BEEN MINIMAL CONTACT WITH THIS DEALERSHIP AS THEY ARE STILL "WORKING ON IT" OUR LOCAL DEALER THAT WE BOUGHT THE CAR FROM HAS ALSO BEEN OF VERY LITTLE HELP. HYUNDAI ASSISTANCE STATES THAT THEY WILL PAID FOR THE REPAIRS AND COST OF OUR RENTAL CAR AFTER WE SUBMIT OUR RECEIPTS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING AT UNKNOWN SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 320.
THE AIR CONDITIONER CUTS OFF FOR NO REASON WHICH CAUSES THE HEAT INSIDE THE VEHICLE TO GO EXTREMELY HIGH CAUSING US TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO RESTART THE VEHICLE.THIS CAN BE DANGEROUS AS THERE IS NOT ALWAYS A GOOD PLACE TO PULL OFF. IF YOU DON'T PULL OFF TO RESTART THE VEHICLE TEMPERATURES CAN RISE TO 100+ DEGREES VERY QUICKLY ESPECIALLY HERE IN FLORIDA! *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2013 SANTA FE ON THE HIGHWAY ON APRIL 6, 2013 AND I WAS COMING TO A FOUR WAY STOP. I HEARD MY ENGINE START MAKING A TICKING SOUND. WHEN I WENT THROUGH THE INTERSECTION THE NOISE WAS EVEN LOUDER. AT THAT POINT I PULLED OFF ALONG SIDE THE ROAD AND CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. MY CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND ON APRIL 8, 2013, THE DEALERSHIP CALLED ME AND SAID THAT THE ENGINE HAD BLOWN UP. HOW DOES AN ENGINE BLOW UP ON A BRAND NEW CAR. THIS IS THE SECOND INCIDENCE I HAVE HAD WITH THIS CAR. LAST MONTH THE AXLE BROKE ON THE VEHICLE. FOR ME I DON'T FEEL IT IS SAVE TO DRIVE ANYMORE. *TR
VEHICLE WILL NOT FILL PAST 3/4 TANK. IF YOU STAY AT PUMP AND KEEP CLICKING IT WILL OVERFLOW AND EVENTUALLY FILL BUT, THEN ENGINE LIGHT APPEARS AND MUST TO RETURN TO DEALER FOR SERVICE. MANY PARTS HAVE BEEN INSTALLED IN AN ATTEMPT TO FIX BUT NOTHING WORKS. ELECTRONIC STEERING EXCEPTIONALLY VAGUE IN ANY OF THREE SETTINGS, TRAILER CONNECTOR NOT FUNCTIONING. VEHICLE ENGINE ALMOST CUTS OFF AT TIMES. *TR
