ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANEL

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2025-2026 Tucson Hybrid, Tucson Plug-In Hybrid Electric (PHEV), 2026 IONIQ 5, Santa Cruz, Kona, Palisade, Palisade Hybrid, Santa Fe, Santa Fe Hybrid, Sonata, Sonata Hybrid, and Tucson vehicles. Due to a software error, the instrument panel display may fail. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 101, "Controls and Displays."

Fix: The instrument panel display software will be updated over-the-air (OTA) or by a dealer, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 24, 2026. Owners may contact Hyundai's customer service at 855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 293. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on January 28, 2026.

Your 2026 Palisade experienced sudden unintended acceleration followed by severely delayed braking while using adaptive cruise control on the highway, forcing other vehicles to take emergency evasive action. The dealership found electrical resistance problems in the CAN-Bus system (160 ohms instead of the designed 120 ohms) that controls acceleration, braking, and driver assist features, with prior symptoms including flickering interior lights. The vehicle has three active safety recalls with no permanent fixes, and repair requires a full wiring harness replacement with no confirmed parts availability or timeline. The repair will likely involve replacing the entire wiring harness and related electrical modules to restore proper communication between the vehicle's safety and control systems.

Your 2026 Palisade has a safety recall affecting the 2nd and 3rd row power seats — they lack proper anti-pinch protection during seat adjustments like power-folding and the one-touch walk-in feature. You experienced the defect firsthand when your second-row seat continued moving without stopping automatically, which could trap or injure an occupant. This is especially dangerous for children and infants who will use these seats. Hyundai has issued a stop-sale on affected vehicles, but no repair has been completed on your vehicle yet. The fix will likely involve updating or replacing the seat motor control system and anti-pinch sensors to ensure seats stop automatically when detecting resistance.

Your vehicle unexpectedly shifted into neutral while you were driving on the highway, which created a dangerous situation with no warning. This loss of engine power while driving poses a serious safety risk. The issue likely involves the transmission control system or electrical connections that manage gear selection.

Your rear power-folding seat failed to detect your child while closing and continued applying force instead of stopping automatically. You had to manually intervene to prevent injury. This is a serious safety issue, and your vehicle is currently under recall for this specific defect.

Your second-row seat's power button operated without proper safety sensors to prevent injury. When the button was pressed, the seat began folding down and trapped a child who was buckled in the seat, compressing them dangerously until the seat finally stopped moving. The seat was eventually able to be moved back to its normal position, but the lack of obstruction detection allowed the seat to move despite a person being in the way.

Your third-row seat on the driver's side folded down unexpectedly while the car was running, trapping your 9-year-old niece's head against the second-row seat. The fold/unfold buttons in the cargo area didn't respond to stop or reverse the action as they normally do, and the seat continued pressing against her. You were able to resolve the situation by moving the second-row captain seat forward to create space for her to escape. After this incident, the buttons eventually worked again, and you've tested them multiple times since without the problem recurring.

Your second-row passenger seat's one-touch tilt-and-slide button caused the seat to fold unexpectedly while someone was sitting in it, nearly trapping them. The seat continued folding even though the vehicle was parked and the occupant was in the seat, though they were able to escape without injury. This issue is part of a known Hyundai recall (Number 296), but the repair hasn't been made available yet.

Your Palisade's power seat anti-pinch safety feature failed to stop the seat from moving when your grandson accidentally activated it, causing him to be pinched by the seat. This safety feature is supposed to detect when someone is in the way and stop automatically, but it didn't work in this case. Hyundai has issued a recall (Campaign Number AWAITING1, Recall Number 296) to fix this, but the repair parts aren't available yet.

Your rear captain chairs and third row seats don't detect when cargo is placed against them during folding, which can cause the chairs to unexpectedly move forward when your dogs bump the controls while loading. Additionally, your car experiences jerky acceleration from a complete stop until you reach speeds above 30 mph, then smooths out—this appears to be engine-related but the exact cause isn't clear. The fix may involve recalibrating the seat occupancy sensors and having the engine's fuel injection or transmission shift points inspected.

Your car is displaying an error message for the Active Air Flap System, and the air flaps are getting stuck and not opening and closing automatically as they should. There's no visible damage or debris causing the problem. This issue has been reported by other owners with the same vehicle. The fix will likely involve inspecting or replacing the air flap motor or control module.

I am reporting a serious safety issue involving my 2026 Hyundai Palisade with fewer than 5,000 miles. Hyundai has now issued Recall 296 stating that the second and third row power seats may not respond properly when contacting an occupant or object. Prior to receiving the recall notice, I had already taken the vehicle to the dealership three separate times regarding problems with the rear seats and unexplained battery failures. Each time I was told nothing was wrong with the seats. The first incident occurred when my child was seated in the rear seat. I attempted to move the seat backward to create more space, but instead of opening properly the seat continued moving in a way that began closing toward my child and would not stop. I was able to quickly remove my child before the seat fully closed. The seat then continued moving on its own. The second incident involved the vehicle battery completely dying without warning. When AAA came to jump start the vehicle, I heard the rear seat motors operating mechanically even though no one was using the seats. The third incident occurred when the battery died again and AAA was called a second time. During the jump start I again heard mechanical movement from the rear seat motors. I had to pay to replace the battery even though the vehicle was nearly new. I informed the dealership multiple times that I believed the issue was related to the seat system, but they told me they could not find anything wrong. Given that Hyundai has now issued Recall 296 regarding malfunctioning power seats, I am extremely concerned that this defect presents a serious safety hazard, particularly to children in the rear seats. I believe the seat system may also be draining the battery due to unintended motor operation.

Entire instrument cluster goes black while driving. Speedometer, odometer, tachometer, turn signal indicators, everything stops working and just a blank screen. Have a video of it happening. Took it to hyundai and they would not approve tear down to find what is causing and said that it is not a safety concern, yet this would cause the vehicle to fail safety inspection in our state.

Batteries in the brand new 2026 Hyundai Palisade are failing by dying unexpectedly with under 500 miles on the vehicle. I have documented over 20 instances with new owners online. This is a safety concern because it can leave people stranded in cold weather. It appears to be an issue with the digital key. I contacted Hyundai and they are not concerned. They just test the battery and say they can't find anything wrong.

NHTSA SAFETY DEFECT REPORT Vehicle: 2026 Hyundai Palisade Hybrid Mileage at Failure: Approximately 3 weeks from new Location: Colorado DESCRIPTION OF FAILURE While driving under completely normal conditions on a local road with no overpasses, no debris, and no external hazards, the sunroof glass suddenly exploded upward without warning. There was: No rock impact No falling object No roadway debris No weather event The glass failure originated from within the sunroof structure and shattered outward/upward. OUT-OF-CONTROL SHIPPING PERIOD Because this vehicle was purchased new, it spent a period of time in manufacturer and dealership custody during shipping and storage prior to delivery. During that time: The vehicle was not in owner control Any manufacturing defect, stress fracture, or transit-related glass damage could only have originated before delivery DANGER CREATED Sudden explosive glass failure while driving, no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure or after the failure. Risk of facial injury Risk of shattered glass entering vehicle cabin Risk of loss of vehicle control Extreme startle response at speed This could easily have caused a serious accident or injury. MANUFACTURER RESPONSE Hyundai dealership and Hyundai Consumer Affairs reviewed photographs submitted by the dealer and wrongfully denied warranty coverage, claiming outside damage without any physical proof. IMPORTANT NOTE This appears to be a tempered glass manufacturing or transit defect, consistent with internal stress fractures that cause spontaneous sunroof explosions.
