Owner Complaints (58)
Your engine is experiencing a known defect that's causing excessive oil consumption (losing half a quart every 800 miles), blue smoke from the exhaust, and engine knocking sounds. The mechanic's diagnostic codes indicate misfires in multiple cylinders, and Hyundai's own recall documentation acknowledges a fire risk with this issue. Your dealer has refused to repair it based on your vehicle's VIN number, even though your symptoms match the documented defect.

Your engine has developed a persistent knocking sound that has worsened significantly, making the vehicle unsafe to drive. You're concerned about potential fire hazards and engine stalling on the highway. The issue appears to be related to internal engine components (lifter knock/piston slap), and the manufacturer has refused to repair it despite multiple service visits. Resolving this will likely require engine diagnostics and internal engine component repair or replacement.

Your engine randomly stalls without warning while driving at any speed — from 15 mph to 70 mph on the highway — and about half the time it stalls, your power steering stops working too. When this happens, you have to coast to the side of the road, shut off the engine, and restart it; in one instance it happened 8 times in just 25 minutes. This is a serious safety hazard, especially at highway speeds. The fix may involve diagnosing the cause of the stalling (which could be related to fuel system, ignition, or engine control issues) and addressing the underlying electrical or mechanical problem.

Your 2015 Elantra is burning through oil faster than normal. After topping off the oil on November 28, the low oil warning light came on just 16 days later following a trip from Baltimore to New Haven, Connecticut — you had to add about a quart of oil. You haven't noticed any oil leaks underneath the car, which suggests the engine is consuming the oil internally rather than losing it to a leak. The mechanic will likely need to inspect the engine for worn piston rings, valve seals, or other internal damage that could be causing excessive oil consumption.

Your 2015 Hyundai Elantra may experience transmission gear slipping without warning. Hyundai has been replacing transmissions at no cost under a class action settlement, but only for original owners with vehicles under 100,000 miles — as a second owner, you're not covered by this program. A transmission replacement typically costs $4,000 or more and may involve removing and rebuilding or replacing the entire transmission assembly.

Your engine started knocking and rattling between 0-40 mph around 129,000 miles, which mechanics couldn't initially diagnose. At 133,000 miles, your vehicle stalled repeatedly and was found to have a failed timing chain and is burning about a quart of oil per 1,000 miles. After the timing chain was replaced, you experienced power loss during low-speed acceleration and engine rumble, diagnosed as a wrist pin failure in cylinder 2. The repair will likely involve engine disassembly to replace the damaged wrist pin and possibly further inspection of internal engine components.

Your check engine light is on with a misfire code, and the car runs rough. A mechanic found that your timing chain is loose, which causes the engine to skip or misfire and could snap unexpectedly, creating a safety hazard. The repair typically costs around $2,000 and involves tightening or replacing the timing chain.

I had a complete engine failure. The car had a loud knock sound and the engine shut off leaving the car inoperable.
The contact owned a 2015 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked outside his residence, it caught on fire. The contact stated the fire was emanating from the engine compartment. No one was injured during the fire. A volunteer fire department was notified and extinguished the fire. A fire department and police report were not filed. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by the insurance; however, the contact stated the vehicle was destroyed. The vehicle was not repaired and remains at the contact residence. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Was driving 2/6/24 and oil light came on. Engine smelled bad then entire car stopped working, e.g. brake pedal locked and the dashboard lit up. Ran over a median to manually stop the car. Had car towed to Hyundai dealership, who stated that an oil change from Firestone in 12/2023 was the culprit. Upon inspection the oil filter had a bulging gasket which was presumed to allow the car to slowly leak oil, leading to impending catastrophic engine failure. I appealed to Firestone and they completed an inspection and provided a report that showed the Hyundai engine itself was faulty and warped the oil filter based on detailed caliper measurements. In light of the Hyundai/Kia engine troubles, I wanted to submit a report in case my year and make and model make a recall list for engine issues.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power and failed to restart. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with rod bearing failure and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but denied the engine replacement due to the vehicle having a Salvaged Title. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact called the local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.
When I come to a stop the car randomly shuts off and the engine lights come on. I have to put it in neutral and restart the car. This is happening all the time and scares me. I'm afraid that one day I will have to stop on the interstate and my car dies when traffic resumes putting me in danger.
When I come to a stop the car randomly shuts off. All the warning lights come on. I have to put it in neutral and it usually starts right back up. It's happening a lot more often now.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, cylinder #3 misfired and check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 179,000.
July 3rd - car was serviced at Humble Hyundai for engine recall July 8th- received email of recommended services needed for vehicle (only thing regarding engine were spark plug replacement) July 26th - car stalled while at red light July 27th - car was brought to Humble Hyundai for further diagnosis Aug 2nd - update regarding engine, cylinder 3 was not receiving enough pressure/low pressure Aug 7th- no longer covered under warranty, car is not operative, need to purchase new vehicle
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle started to shudder and lost motive power before the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the vehicle also lost power steering functionality and stopped in the right lane on the highway. The contact stated that she restarted the vehicle and was able to exit the highway. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled repeatedly while driving to the residence. The contact stated that while driving to an independent mechanic, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 72,561.
Complete engine failure at 129k miles, 3k miles after purchasing used off Hyundai car dealerships.
The car engine seized on me. Went to work in the am and by the afternoon the car was non drivable. Had it tolled to a Hyundai dealership and couple of other car repair shops and they all confirmed that the engine has died. I haven't even had the car for a year. There was no indicators on the screen or any kind of warning such as an engine light. Good thing the car was in park when before it seized, otherwise I could have been driving it and could have happened on the road.
Engine stalled while going at-speed on major highway; high risk of crash if not restarted in time. Continuous repeating stalls. Hyundai inspected car twice; failed to fix the problem on the first attempt, refused to replace engine alleging that maintenance was negligent due to residue inside motor. Hyundai did not report any residue on the first inspection, and likely did not inspect engine thoroughly when stalling was initially reported to their mechanics. Odd noises from engine present for months prior to stalling.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, she heard a knocking sound coming from the engine compartment. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the noise was intermittent at first but had become almost constant and would occur at various speeds. The contact stated that she recently saw white smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. Additionally, the engine was revving high when started in the morning. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V226000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000.
The engine failed under with under 100,000 miles on the car. It dies going under 20 miles per hour. This is a safety issue because it will die anywhere and can cause wrecks due to sudden failure. The vehicle was inspected Stivers Hyundai, and they could not determine what caused the failure. The problem was confirmed with the same dealer. There were no warning lamps or signs prior to the failure. Beneath, I am reporting the issue on the date it first occurred, though it has occurred multiple times since.
My vehicle is just over 80k miles and has received regular maintenance services. Inspection available upon request. My engine would rattle during idle, stopped at a light, and sounded as if the RPM were increasing. I would have to turn my car off then back on for it to stop. No engine or warning lights. As this became more frequent, I also noticed a very intense shaking coming from the front passenger side of the vehicle while driving on the highway. The shaking was most intense as the car accelerated from 2k-3k RPM. It felt like I could have lost control. On 11/29/22, my car was towed to a repair shop because the engine would stall when I started my car. After examination they recommended I take it to a Hyundai dealer, determined the engine may need replaced and informed me of other recalls from similar models. When the vehicle was brought to the Hyundai dealer, they stated they could not replicate the issue - the engine would start without stalling - but they also speculated my problem was from a loose cable, and attempted to send my car home with me the same day. It is important to note that the battery cable was examined and was connected prior to bringing it in to the dealer. My car is not under recall so my request was taken lightly, they stated I had no engine issues. I pressed for them to address the rattling of my vehicle, for which they then told me I had a leak in my front left axle. Axle was repaired and car brought home. My car drove for about 212 miles before it started stalling again with multiple attempts to start it. When I was able to successfully turn the engine over, I drove it back to the Hyundai dealer on 1/02/23. They found no codes but determined the crank sensor needed replaced. After replacement, they informed me my vehicle still “acted up” once, so they have held onto the vehicle for the past month, letting it sit and occasionally test driving it. Still no answer to this irregular issue.
Multiple times now, the vehicle has stalled while I am driving and turned off. Both my battery and alternator are still good, however this continues to happen. This happens at any speed, but most commonly at low speeds, while slowing down. This typically starts with the engine chugging or the car begins lurching instead of moving fluidly. As this is happening the light cluster will also flash and then go off or will illuminate the oil pressure warning light. I have had the oil level checked and can confirm this is also not an issue. The only way to get the car back on is to put the vehicle in park, and turn it over until it starts. It will normally start on the first try but at times it has taken several attempts. Additionally the car now produces a strong exhaust smell anytime I am driving it even though it has not done so before and there are no issues with my exhaust system currently. The vehicle currently has around 180,000 miles but from what I have read on this site there are many individuals experiencing this same issue with varying mileage. This is obviously a major concern as I have kept the vehicle maintained normally and this seems to have come out of nowhere and this is a significant safety hazard both for myself and others. As many have stated already in their complaints their vehicle has also experienced this exact issue while driving putting themselves and others in danger. The only fix I have seen on the site here is to replace the engine which is absurd given that this seems to be a manufacturer issue and not on the vehicle owner from what I can tell based on the number of related complaints that are the exact same issue.
When driving the car shuts off. The dash lights come on oil battery check engine. Once I stop and put the car in park and restart it it will start right back up. I will die anytime and anywhere. I've been on the highway and it just stops. It does it multiple times before I get to were I need to go. I was almost hit by a semi in traffic doing 40 because it died in the lane
The low-pressure oil light flickers at idle and then stalls the engine. This often happens at intersections while waiting for traffic to clear and then the car shuts off. The oil pressure has been tested and is at proper pressure. Additionally, the oil sending switch has been replaced. At this time the vin shows the engine is not eligible for manufacturer recall. It is my understanding that the engine shut off is by design as to preserve the engine from seizure. However, the root of the issue needs to be addressed as it is a major safety concern if the engine stops during idle in a busy intersection.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle hesitated and stalled. The contact stated that he was able to navigate the vehicle off the roadway. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not covered under recall or warranty. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the gear shifter only operated in second gear (D2) and the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact stated that the shifter locked Mr. Transmission where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000.
The car engine started just cutting off while driving. There is no warning except for the engine, oil and battery light comes on. The dash lights and radio remain on with no engine. I have to brake and put the car in park to start the engine back up. It may do this several times before I get to my destination. I've had it looked at and diagnosed at 3 places and none can find what is wrong. The 3 lights only come on when engine stops. The car has about 53,000 miles.
Car stutteres than stalls especially near time of oil change , oil light flashes when going moderate to low speeds and than it stutters and the engine cuts and the engine light , oil light and battery light come on if engine not started right away the power brakes and steering also die making it a dangerous situation especially on a highway happened many times between 2020-2022 but it has been getting worse happening 4 times just today 4/21/2022 Engine type NU 1.8L Car make and model:2015 Hyundai Elantra Limited
Car shuts down while driving. Usually as I slow down to turn, stop or change lanes. Very scarey.
Hyndai performed a service campaign to enhance their vehicle software to better detect abnormal engine noise. Since the campaign, this vehicle has had 3 instances in 8 weeks where the P1326 Knock Signal error code was detected. Per Hyundai's Service Campaign bulletin, this code indicates engine bearing failure. When the code is detected, the check engine light flashes and the engine is limited at 2000 rpm. This has occured while driving at highway speed in heavy traffic, and there is a significant safety risk due to the vehicle's sudden and unexpected deceleration which creates a high chance of being hit from behind. Hyundai has repeatedly treated this error code as sensor and electrical problem replacing electical components, clearing the code, and allowing the vehicle to be returned to service as if normal. However, per their service campaign, the failure is due to faulty engine bearings. This action of not correcting the mechanical problem has created multiple chances of potential collision and injury.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL AMOUNT OF SMOKE COMING FROM THE EXHAUST TIP. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER SANSONE HYUNDAI (90-100 US-1, AVENEL, NJ 07001, (888) 566-5311) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT FAILURE WAS DUE TO OIL DEPOSITS BLOCKING THE VALVES. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
I NOTICED A SLIGHT TICKING SOUND AT AROUND 63,000 MILES IN MY 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA WHILE MY CAR WAS IDLING. I HAD THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED BY AN ASE CERTIFIED MECHANIC. THEY DETERMINED A KNOCKING/PINGING IN THE AREA OF CYLINDER NUMBER ONE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. OIL HAS ALWAYS BEEN CHANGED AROUND 3,000 MILES. THE SOUNDS HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE AND HAS BECOME A LOUD KNOCKING SOUND WITH LOSS OF POWER. THE VEHICLE HAS ABOUT 70,000 MILES ON IT NOW AND THE ENGINE IS STARTING TO FAIL MORE. THE LOUD KNOCKING SOUND IS CONSTANT FROM IDLE THROUGH ACCELERATION. I WAS CURIOUS IF OTHER PEOPLE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE SO I DID SOME RESEARCH. MANY CARS WITH THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL WERE RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE I'M HAVING. IM AFRAID THE ENGINE IS GOING TO SEIZE SOON WHILE DRIVING AND I'M CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THIS PROBLEM NOW. I DON'T THINK A CAR SHOULD BE DOING THIS AT 70,000 MILES
CAR STALLS WHEN STOPPING OR IDLING IF YOU DO NOT KEEP YOUR FEET ON THE GAS. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN IN THE FIRST 10 MINS OF WARMING UP THE CAR BUT THEN HAPPENS FOR THE REMAINING TIME. I HAVE HAD A TUNE UP, THROTTLE BODY SERVICED, CRANKSHAFT SENSOR REPLACED, AND FUEL PUMP REPLACED. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET THIS FIXED FOR THE LAST 3 YEARS AND NOTHING HAS HELPED.
I HAVE A 2015 ELANTRA THAT DEVELOPED AN ENGINE NOISE AT 135,000 MILES. AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, AT A SPEED OF 65, THE ENGINE BECAME EXTREMELY LOUD. I PULLED OVER TO CHECK MY VEHICLE. I PULLED OUT THE DIPSTICK AND IT HAD METAL SHAVINGS IN THE OIL. THE CAR LOST ALL ABILITY TO MOVE. THE GAS PEDAL DID NOT WORK AND THE VEHICLE WOULD REV ON ITS OWN. I HAD IT TOWED TO A HYAUNDAI DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID THE VEHICLE ONLY HAD 1 QUART OF OIL. THE ISSUE WITH THAT, IS MY LOW OIL LIGHT NEVER CAME ON IN THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP RAN THE CODES, AND IT SHOWED NOTHING ON THE SCANNER.
THE VEHICLE ENGINE STARTED KNOCKING AROUND 80,000 MILES. AT 101000 MILES THE ENGINE HAD A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD TERRIBLE LOUD KNOCKING AND CRUNCHING NOISES WITH VERY LITTLE POWER. THIS HAPPENED ON THE INTERSTATE GOING 70MPH. THE KNOCKING ISSUE HAD BEEN BROUGHT UP SEVERAL TIMES TO ALLEN TURNER HYUNDAI IN PENSACOLA, FL AND IGNORES. THE SERVICE STAFF TOLD ME IT WAS BECAUSE I WAS NOT GETTING THE OIL CHANGED (I STOPPED GOING TO THEM BECAUSE OF THEIR TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE). ONCE I PRODUCED RECEIPTS PROVING THEM WRONG THEY SAID THAT I WASN'T GETTING IT CHANGED OFTEN ENOUGH EVEN THOUGH I GOT IT CHANGED ACCORDING TO THE TIME FRAME THEY TOLD AND WHAT WAS STATED IN THE OWNERS MANUAL. THEY EVENTUALLY AGREED TO FIX IT FOR $500 AFTER HAVING TO GET LOUD AND OBNOXIOUS WITH EVERYONE UP TO THE GENERAL MANAGER. IT WAS ONE OF THE MOST STRESSFUL SITUATIONS I'VE EVER HAD. THE VEHICLE STILL HAD $10,000 OWED ON THE LOAN. EVEN AFTER THE ISSUE WAS CORRECTED THE CAR NEVER GOT BACK TO WORKING WELL AT ALL. TO GET RID OF IT I HAD TO LEASE A VEHICLE FOR NEARLY $600 A MONTH TO RID MYSELF OF THE NEGATIVE EQUITY. BUYER BEWARE
ENGINE HAD A CLICKING NOISE, CAR DIED WHILE DRIVING. BRAKES AND STEERING WHEEL DID NOT OPERATE. CAR ROLLED UNTIL IT GOT SLOW ENOUGH TO PULL THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. *TR
2015 ELANTRA-ENGINE KNOCK/TICKING ON STARTUP. CURRENTLY WITH EVERY START. VEHICLE HAS 53000 MILES. QUIETS DOWN SLIGHTLY WHEN NORMAL OPERATING TEMP IS REACHED. MORE PRONOUNCED UPON ACCELERATION AND LESS WHEN COASTING.
THE ENGINE ON MY CAR STALLED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND GET IT STARTED AGAIN. I TURNED AROUND TO GO BACK HOME AND IT STARTED KNOCKING AND STALLED AGAIN. AFTER THAT, IT WOULD NOT START AGAIN. I HAD IT TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP WHO SAID THE ENGINE WAS SEIZED. THEY WERE ABLE TO GET IT STARTED AGAIN BUT IT WAS KNOCKING LOUDLY. I ENDED UP HAVING TO REPLACE THE ENGINE WHICH COST CLOSE TO $6000 FOR A USED ENGINE. I HAD CLOSE TO 127,000 MILES ON THE CAR (I DRIVE 100 MILES PER DAY FOR WORK) AND HYUNDAI WOULD NOT HELP SINCE I AM OUT OF THE WARRANTY MILEAGE.
WE JUST BOUGHT THE CAR TWO MONTHS AGO FROM A USED CAR DEALERSHIP. MY SON WAS DRIVING WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN ALL OF THE DASH LIGHTS FLASHED ON THE CAR AND THE CAR STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. WE HAD IT TOWED TO A CAR DEALERSHIP NEARBY AND THEY LOOKED AT THE ENGINE AND SAID THAT THE ENGINE LOCKED. ALSO, WHEN YOU OPEN UP THE HOOD OF THE CAR THERE'S ALSO OIL ON THE INSIDE OF THE HOOD OF THE CAR.
ENGINE BEGAN KNOCKING AT VERY LOW MILEAGE. KNOCK WAS APPARENT WHILE STATIONARY, DRIVING, ACCELERATING. ENGINE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY, NO QUESTIONS ASKED. IF ENGINE HAD FAILED DURING OPERATION IT WOULD HAVE CREATED A DANGEROUS DRIVING SITUATION.
SEEKING TO ACCELERATE AS I MERGED ONTO A HIGHWAY, VEHICLE RPM EXCEEDED 6,000 WITHOUT ACCELERATION. DEPRESSED ACCELERATOR, TRIED AGAIN AND THE ENGINE BACKFIRED. RESULT: BLOWN HEAD GASKET ON VEHICLE WITH ONLY 62,000 KM. I CHANGED THE OIL EVERY 8,500 KM AND HYUNDAI IS DEBATING THE WARRANTY.
I WAS IN MOTION ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND CITY STREETS AND THE VEHICLE WOULD MAKE AN AWFUL TICKING AND GRINDING NOISE AND THEN STALL. I LOSE STEERING AND BRAKES AND HAVE BEEN IN TOO MANY CLOSE ACCIDENTS DUE TO THIS. I HAVE KIDS AND THIS IS NOT SAFE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. THERE ARE NO DASH INDICATORS ON NOR ANY CODES COMING UP WHEN SCANNED. I READ ABOUT THIS FROM OTHER PEOPLE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. THE SCARIEST TIME WAS WHEN I WAS GOING DOWN A STEEP HILL, CARS IN FRONT AND BACK OF ME. MY CAR STALLED AND WITH NO POWER STEERING AND NO BRAKES I BARELY MANAGED TO SWERVE AROUND THE CAR IN FRONT, DODGE THE ONCOMING CAR IN OTHER LANE, I THEN HAD TO GO INTO AN INTERSECTION PRAYING TO GOD THAT NO OTHER CARS WERE COMING THRU AT THE SAME TIME AND THEN MANAGED TO PULL OVER. DID I MENTION MY KIDS WERE IN THE CAR!!!! PLEASE RECALL THESE CARS FOR STALLING BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED! IT IS VERY DANGEROUS.
ITS A LOUD CRACKLING TICKING NOISE THAT COMES FROM MY 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRAS ENGINE. WHEN I DRIVE THE THE TICKING TURNS INTO KNOCKING AND THE CAR SHUTS OFF COMPLETELY IN MOTION. I HAVE LOOKED ONLINE TO SEE WHAT THIS ISSUE COULD BE. I'VE READ COUNTLESS STATEMENTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND ACKNOWLEDGE THIS IS A URGENT MANUFACTURING ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO FIXED IMMEDIATELY.
VERY LOUD TICKING NOISE FROM ENGINE. WOULD NOT STOP WHEN CAR WAS WARMED UP AS I WAS ORIGINALLY TOLD BY THE DEALER IN THE FALL OR 2018. CONTINUALLY GOT LOUDER AND LOUDER AND I KNEW IT WAS NOT RIGHT. TOOK TO DEALER HAVE BEEN TOLD NEEDS A BRAND NEW ENGINE. FAULTY PISTONS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CONTACT HEARD ABNORMAL NOISES COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. BILLION AUTO HYUNDAI (3401 W 41ST ST, SIOUX FALLS, SD 57106) DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
VEHICLE WAS MAKING A "TICKING" SOUND. GETS LOUDER AS YOU ACCELERATE. TOOK VEHICLE TO MECHANIC - ADVISED PISTONS/ENGINE ARE CAUSING SOUND TO CONTACT HYUNDAI DEALER AS THERE HAS BEEN MANY ISSUES WITH THE CARS ENGINES. CAN DRIVE THE CAR AT THIS TIME, WAITING ON DEALER TO RESPOND AND HOPE ENGINE DOESN'T BLOW UP ON ME. CAR ONLY HAS 55,000 MILES.
MY ENGINE BEGAN MAKING A CLICKING NOISE IN JANUARY 2019. I DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT. THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, THE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT AND THE BATTERY LIGHT ALL WOULD START FLASHING WHEN I WAS DRIVING AND MY ENGINE WOULD DIE. I TOOK IT TO MY CAR DEALERSHIP, WHO SAID THEY COULDN'T TELL ME WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT, BUT THAT IT WAS COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY SO THEY ARE REPLACING IT. I HAVE LOOKED ONLINE AND NOTICED MANY OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT CARS BUT I DO KNOW THAT AN ENGINE TOTALLY DYING AT 58,000 IS NOT GOOD. THEY DID MENTION THAT THEY WOULD CHECK THE OIL FOR METAL SHAVINGS. I LOOKED THAT UP ONLINE, WHICH HAPPENS WHEN AN ENGINE IS POORLY MADE AND THE MOTORS ARE SCRAPING AGAINST EACH OTHER, PRODUCING METAL SHAVINGS, WHICH THEN GO THROUGH THE ENTIRE ENGINE THROUGH THE OIL. EVERY TIME THE ENGINE DIED I WAS DRIVING ON A SIDE STREET, GOING ABOUT 30 MPH.
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE WITH APPROXIMATELY 35000 MILES ON IT, AND SINCE THAT TIME, ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE, THERE IS A BRIEF LACK OF RESPONSE FROM THE VEHICLE. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO GET UP TO SPEED WHEN MERGING ONTO THE HIGHWAY, OR EVEN WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A STOP LIGHT, THE VEHICLE WILL BEGIN ROLLING, AND WHEN I PUSH ON THE GAS PEDAL THERE IS A 2-3 SECOND HESITATION FROM THE ACCELERATOR. THIS ONLY HAPPENS ONCE IN A WHILE. DUE TO IT NOT HAPPENING EVERY TIME, IT IS HARD TO DUPLICATE AT THE MECHANIC SHOP FOR TESTING.
2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ENGINE FAILURE. *LD
CAR STALLS WHEN EVER IDLING OR COMING TO A STOP.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY THE MECHANIC THAT THERE WERE METAL SHAVINGS IN THE ENGINE OIL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER (STEW HANSEN HYUNDAI, 11344 HICKMAN RD, CLIVE, IA 50325, (515) 253-3000) WAS CONTACTED AND AN APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE SHORT BLOCK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
MY 2015 ELANTRA STARTED TO MAKE A TICKING NOISE WHILE PARKED AND WHILE ACCELERATING AT 50,000 MILES. THERE WAS NO NOTICEABLE CHANGE IN DRIVING PERFORMANCE AND NO DASHBOARD LIGHTS TURNED ON. WITHIN A WEEK I BROUGHT IT TO A HYUNDAI DEALER FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND TO DIAGNOSE THE NOISE. I WAS TOLD THE OIL HAD METAL SHAVINGS IN IT AND THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE HAD REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND OIL CHANGES PRIOR TO THIS.
STARTING A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO, MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN MAKING A RATTLING NOISE WHILE IN PARK AND WHILE IN DRIVE (ESPECIALLY WITH ACCELERATING). NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO GET SERVICED AND WAS TOLD THERE ARE METALLIC SHAVINGS IN THE OIL TO SUPPORT THAT THERE IS LOWER ENGINE FAILURE (CRANKSHAFT WITH TOO MUCH CLEARANCE) AND THAT I NEED A NEW ENGINE. I WENT TO OTHER AUTO SHOPS AND WAS TOLD THE SAME THING. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 76,000 MILES AND HAS RECEIVED REGULAR MAINTENANCE WITH OIL CHANGES EVERY 5,000 MILES.
ENGINE STARTED MAKING A TICKING NOISE WITH NO INDICATION OF A PROBLEM. RAN FINE AND NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AND THEY FOUND METAL SHAVINGS IN OIL, CAUSED FROM EITHER A BAD MAIN OR ROD BEARING. CAR HAD 37,000 MILES AND THE OIL WAS CHANGED EVERY 3,000 MILES.
CAR CUT OFF. WAS NO LONGER DRIVABLE. HAD TO GET IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT I NEED A NEW ENGINE. MY CAR IS A 2015 AND ONLY HAS 74,000 MILES ON IT.
HIGH OIL PRESSURE CAUSED OIL FILTER TO FAIL
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH OR LESS, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED OFTEN. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE RPMS IDLED HIGH AND LOW AT TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE SHOP SEVERAL TIMES FOR THIS FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200.
