Airbags Recalls (1)
AIR BAGS
Honda is recalling certain model year 2009-2013 Pilot and 2011-2013 Odyssey passenger vehicles manufactured from March 13, 2008, through December 21, 2012. One or more rivets that attach the airbag module to the airbag cover may be missing.
Fix: Honda will notify owners and instruct them to take their vehicle to a Honda dealer. The dealer will inspect the driver's airbag module and replace it if necessary, free of charge. The recall began on March 14, 2013. Owners may contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009.

While driving 65 MPH, your sister's 2013 Honda Odyssey ran over a trailer hitch on the road, which struck the exhaust. Both the driver's and passenger's side curtain airbags and seat airbags deployed without any warning light appearing first. All three passengers in the vehicle were injured — your brother-in-law sustained burns and swelling on his elbow from the driver's seat airbag, your niece in the rear was hit in the head by the curtain airbag and experienced bruises and hearing loss, and you experienced lower back pain from the passenger's seat airbag impact. The airbag deployment may need inspection to determine if the system functioned as designed and whether any airbag components were damaged or defective.

You were not notified by Honda about a safety recall affecting your 2013 Odyssey's airbags or seats, despite being the registered owner. You drove the vehicle with your children while unaware of a potential safety defect. You're requesting that NHTSA investigate why the recall notice wasn't sent and ensure other owners are properly notified. The issue may require Honda to contact you with recall details and potentially repair or replace the affected airbag or seat components.

I was in a motor vehicle accident, and when the airbags deployed. A woman, who leaned into the passenger side of my vehicle to see if I was hurt, said she could smell something burning and saw the sleeve of sweatshirt jacket on fire. Had she not checked on me, the sleeve of my sweatshirt may have burned all the way up my arm. As I only have use of the arm that caught fire The vehicle is at a body shop, waiting for insurance issues to be worked out. I’d never had an opportunity/reason for the airbags to ever be looked at.
The contact owns a 2013 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while her husband was driving approximately 25 - 30 mph when another vehicle was coming towards him. To avoid a crash the driver turned the vehicle but ended up crashing into the curb in the middle of the road. The contact stated that the vehicle's front end was severely damaged and the tires blew out. The air bags failed to deploy. There was no police report. The driver had no injuries and no medical attention was needed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the seat belt, sensors, and air bag needed to be replaced. The vehicle had been repaired for the exterior damage, however the air bag failure was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 81,000.
I came to a stop at the stop sign and dropped off the my kids for PE at a local church. After the stop sign I went left going slowly because of kids in the area. I then went around a dark grey minivan that was pulled over on my right side of the road letting her kids out for PE. I then proceeded to take another left. I was pulling into the first parking space close to the PE field, with a fully turned steering wheel, as in doing a U turn. Since I was going slow my right foot was lightly pressing the brake. My minivan was in the parking spot and I was creeping closer to the concrete parking stop with my right foot pressing more down on the brake so I can come to a complete stop. I was about to place the car in park when the engine revved, the car jerked, it accelerated sending me up and over the curb and into the grassy median in front of the parking space and into a tree. The coaches and one other person came running to assist me since I was in shock. There was smoke coming out of the engine so I placed the minivan in park and shut the engine off. The airbags did not deploy.
