Purchased vehicle from private owner. After a year the car began overheating, took in to auto shop for repair and was advised of a cracked engine block. Shop advised of recall on block and referred me to Honda. Honda denied my claim and advised to me the recall was expired.
The contact owns a 2007 Honda Civic. The contact stated while driving at 5MPH and parking in front of her residence, she noticed that smoke was coming out of the hood of the vehicle and the vehicle was overheating. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact turned off the vehicle. Upon opening the hood of the vehicle, the contact noticed that the smoke was originating from the engine compartment. There were no injuries sustained. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine block was cracked. The independent mechanic informed the contact that the failure was associated with Honda Technical Service Bulletin Number: 10-048. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer for diagnostic test. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine block had cracked. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer informed the contact that they could not provide any assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 109,000.
I purchased this Honda Civic In February 2022. I immediately had to have a O2 Sensor replaced. A few days later the car starting running hot and all the antifreeze leaked out. I replaced the antifreeze and had several mechanics look at it. Now the Honda dealer tells me the Engine block is cracked. I know Honda settled a class action lawsuit for this exact reason (engine block cracked) in Honda Civics 2006-2009. Now I can't use my car. I need your assistance in getting my car repaired by Honda due to the nature of the history of the Engine Crack recalls. Thank you
My engine block has cracked. I own an 07 Honda Civic. It overheated on the road and the only way to get it home was drive 15-20 mph even on highways. Honda knows there was a manufacturing defect from 06-2010 and all they did was extend the warranty from ten years of date of purchase. Meaning all of us who bought ours from another owner aren’t covered anymore. This keeps happening time and time again with countless Honda owners. It’s time something is done about this.
cracked engine resulted in vehicle heating
Engine Block cracked and leaked all coolant abruptly. Car has ~47k miles on it. Honda addressed this issue by extending the warranty discreetly to 10 years with unlimited mileage. This warranty extension was clearly designed to target owners who had more drive time than others. The bulletin posted here -> https://static.oemdtc.com/TSB/A10-048.pdf states it was posted in January of 2015. That means my well-cared-for 2007 Civic had only two years to encounter the issue, or else the replacement would not be honored. I purchased the car in 2019 used, and did not realize the engine was to be faulty. Not even 50k miles into the car's life the engine block failed, almost catastrophically. This leak could have lead to a fire hazard had I not been paying attention to the car's temperature. This is absolutely abysmal practice for a parts+labor fix that costs $5000+ due to a faulty designed engine. Honda doesn't even partially cover these costs despite knowing and acknowledging their issue in a poor fashion. To only provide repairs for people who encountered the issue when they knew it would keep coming up for owners after their warranties is completely unfair and should not be allowed, especially when lives are potentially at stake from the damage such a fault may cause.
As I was driving down the road my car began to smoke and I noticed it was overheating at a stop light. I managed to be able to pull off of the road before the smoke got any worse. It may have had the potential to cause a fire. I was able to fill it with enough fluid to manage to take the car to my house so we could take a closer look at the issue. We found that there was coolant leaking out of the engine block and that there is a known service bulletin for the issue that has been released by Honda. It was apparently only applicable to cars that were less than 10 years old to cover under warranty. Given that my car only has 81,000 miles on it I would expect it would be covered under this warranty but they are telling me they will not cover any of the costs at all.

The engine block cracked which resulted in the coolant leaking out of the vehicle. This is a safety issue to myself and others on the road as the engine could seize. The engine and coolant system were inspected and the problem has been confirmed by an independent mechanic. The first symptoms of an issue appeared on 09/12/2021 after I exited a highway and stopped at a traffic light. White smoke was coming from the hood and I could smell burning coolant. Honda is aware of a manufacturing defect of these engine blocks and issued an extended warranty for 10 years past original purchase date. This is a dangerous safety issue and Honda should be recalling all of these vehicles regardless of age.
There is a crack in the block that has nothing to do with external damage or lack of maintenance. It is available for inspection upon request. The engine lost a significant amount of coolant and started to overheat on the highway. This could have resulted in engine seizure and a major accident. Our service person has confirmed that the block is cracked and that this has been identified by Honda as a known manufacturing defect. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone else. The Honda dealer is not interested. The only warning was that the temperature gauge shot up.
In January of 2020 my engine started to overheat, It was lack of coolant of course, so after that incident I have to check every few days and I have to add more coolant into the vehicle, I have had it checked by three different mechanics and they said there is no leaks, but I keep having to add coolant to the reservoir, and when I don't check after a week the radiator is empty. I have heard about cracked engine blocks in my model, yet Hondas website says my vehicle has no recalls. This website says I have NINE that have NOT been repaired. I have tried calling Honda and they told me I had to pay for any engine issues since I bought the vehicle outside of the warranty time limit. I really like the car it's a shame.
Cracked Engine Block at Just over 50,000 miles. Engine began to get overheated on Highway and lost power. Daughter coasted off highway into parking lot. Everyone in the area of car including driver was put a risk . Upon research, found out this was a known issue on this VIn and there was a warranty extension that expired in 2016. No notice was sent to me or my father in law (original owner) regarding this issue.Dealership did not inform me.

ENGINE IS OVERHEATING BECAUSE THERE IS A CRACK IN THE BACK OF THE ENGINE BLOCK CAUSING COOLANT TO LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING ON A CITY STREET.
WHILE DRIVING THE ENGINE STALLED, FUMES APPEARED FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE CAR JUST DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. WE THOUGHT WE WERE GOING TO GET HIT BY SPEEDING CARS COMING FROM BEHIND. WE HAD TO TO L TOW IT TO A MECHANIC AND HE INFORMED ME THAT THE ENGINE BLOCK WAS CRACKED. AT FIRST I DIDN'T BELIEVE HIM, BUT THEN ANOTHER MECHANIC TOLD ME THE SAME THING.
HONDA HAS PRODUCED FAULTY ENGINE BLOCKS ON CIVIC MODELS FROM 2006-2009 THAT TEND TO CRACK. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS IT CAN CAUSE THE CAR TO STALL ON A HIGHWAY AND LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT. HONDA EXTENDED THEIR WARRANTY FROM 7 TO 10 YEARS INSTEAD OF ISSUING A RECALL EVEN THOUGH THEY KNOW THEY SOLD A FAULTY PRODUCT. ON TUESDAY, OCT 27TH 2020, DRIVING HOME FROM WORK THE CAR TEMPERATURE GAUGE MAXED OUT AND SHAKING WAS FELT AS IF THE CAR WAS GOING TO STALL. LUCKILY, THIS OCCURRED COMING OFF THE HIGHWAY AND WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREETS AND NEAR MY RESIDENCE AND NOT WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY WHERE THE CAR COULD HAVE STALLED AND CAUSED A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HONDA SERVICE CENTER THE FOLLOWING DAY FOR A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE BLOCK HAD CRACKED. THE ENGINE CRACKING WAS THE REASON THE CARS WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED TO 10 YEARS BUT THE EXTENSION OF THE WARRANTY TO MY VEHICLE HAS EXPIRED. HONDA HAS QUOTED ME $6,395.40 TO REPLACE A KNOWN FAULTY ENGINE BLOCK. I BELIEVE A FAULTY ENGINE BLOCK CREATES AN UNSAFE CONDITION TO ALL DRIVERS AND SHOULD BE REPLACED BY HONDA BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT.
THE CARS COOLANT AND OIL KEPT MIXING AND THE COOLANT WOULD QUICKLY DEPLETE AND LEAK OUT OF THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR, THE ENGINE WOULD ALSO HEAT TO THE MAXIMUM TEMP ON THE ENGINE IF I DID NOT CONSTANTLY FILL MY COOLANT. I WENT TO DISCOUNT TIRE TO GET THIS CHECKED OUT AND IT WAS A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK, I FOUND OUT THERE WERE RECALLS FOR THIS EXACT YEAR AND ISSUE BUT MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED FOR SOME REASON! I FEAR ONE DAY MY CAR WILL BLOW UP ON ME AND HONDA SHOULD CORRECT THIS PROBLEM FREE OF CHARGE.

MY AUNT, PURCHASED THIS CAR IN 2007. SHE DIED IN 2015 AND OUR MOTHER PURCHASED THE CAR FROM THE ESTATE. AFTER THE PURCHASE WE SAW THE RE-CALL AND 10 YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE CAR BECAUSE OF "ENGINE BLOCK CRACKING". WE TOOK THE CAR TO A DEALER WHO SAID THAT SINCE THERE WAS NO COOLANT LEAKING, THERE WAS NO CRACK IN THE BLOCK AND HE COULD NOT FIX A CAR THAT WAS NOT IN NEED OF REPAIR. THE CARE HAD 70,000 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME. MY MOM DIED THIS FEBRUARY AND WE AGAIN PURCHASED THE CAR FROM THE ESTATE. IT HAD 75,000 MILES ON IT. LAST WEEK, THE ENGINE BLOCK STARTED LEAKING AND IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH AN ENGINE BLOCK CRACK, AND THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WE COULD DO ABOUT IT BECAUSE IT HAD EXCEEDED THE 10 YEAR WARRANTY, EVEN THOUGH THE CAR ONLY HAD 79,000 MILES ON IT. HONDA SHOULD HAVE MADE A 10 YEAR AND 100,000 MILE EXTENSION. WE WERE PENALIZED BECAUSE WE ARE LOW MILEAGE DRIVERS. THIS IS VERY UNFAIR AND SHOULD CONSIDER A CLASS ACTION LAW SUITE. MY HONDA CIVIC HAS COMPLETELY OVERHEATED THREE TIMES TO THE POINT OF NEEDING TO REPLACE THE HEAD GASKET, WATER PUMP, RADIATOR AND COILS. ONCE WAS IN 2014, AGAIN IN 2018 AND NOW IN 2020. IT IS NOW DISCOVERED THE CAUSE OF ALL THESE OVER HEATING PROBLEMS OVER THE YEARS WAS DUE TO A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK WHICH THERE WAS A 10 YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THIS ISSUE. I TOOK MY CIVIC INTO BRANDON HONDA IN FLORIDA ON MARCH 5TH, 2016 AND NOTHING WAS SAID OR DONE RELATING TO THE ISSUE OF THE CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK WHICH HONDA HAD BEEN FULLY AWARE OF SINCE AT LEAST 2014 WHERE IT WAS STATED ON CONSUMER REPORTS. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION TWICE, ONCE ON A HIGHWAY AND IT WAS DUE TO THE ENGINE OVER HEATING EVERY TIME; BOTH SITUATIONS PUT MYSELF AND VEHICLE IN DANGER. I MAINTAINED MY RADIATOR AS WELL AS WATER PUMP AND HAVE HAD THEM REPLACED EACH TIME SO CLEARLY THE UNDERLYING PROBLEM WAS THE CRACK IN THE ENGINE BLOCK.

CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK, RANDOM OVERHEATING, MAJOR COOLANT LOSS, EMERGENCY PULLOVER
44,000 MILES ON VEHICLE AND DIAGNOSED AT HONDA DEALER THAT ENGINE BLOCK IS CRACKED! MANUFACTURERS DEFECT WITH UNPUBLICIZED SAFETY BULLETIN 10-048 WILL NOT REPAIR.
THE VEHICLE HAS DEVELOPED A COOLANT LEAK DUE TO A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK. THIS VEHICLE CAN NO LONGER BE DRIVEN AND WHILE IT IS IN OTHERWISE EXCELLENT CONDITION, REPAIRS ARE ECONOMICALLY UNFEASIBLE. THIS IS A 2007 HONDA CIVIC EX WITH THE R18 ENGINE. IT HAS A CLEAN TITLE AND I AM THE FIRST AND ONLY OWNER. THERE HAVE BEEN A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF SIMILAR FAILURES IN THE 2007, 2008 AND 2009 MODEL YEAR HONDA CIVICS WITH THIS ENGINE DUE TO BAD METALLURGY AND WEAK CASTING DURING THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS. HONDA KNOWS THAT THESE ARE DEFECTIVE ENGINES AS THEY CREATED TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 10-048 IN RESPONSE TO THESE FAILURES. THEY DID NOT HOWEVER ISSUE A RECALL. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, BECAUSE THIS FAILURE COULD OCCUR IN HIGHWAY DRIVING CAUSING THE ENGINE TO OVERHEAT AND SEIZE AND THE DRIVER COULD THEREFORE POTENTIALLY BE UNABLE TO LEAVE THE ACTIVE TRAFFIC LANES. REGARDLESS, EVEN IF THE DRIVER COULD MAKE IT TO THE SHOULDER, THAT IS NOT A SAFE ENVIRONMENT. I NOTICED THIS PROBLEM WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION JUST AFTER EXITING THE HIGHWAY. THERE ARE MANY EXAMPLES OF SIMILAR FAILURES ON VARIOUS OWNER GROUP WEBSITES.
UNFORTUNATELY IT IS THE SECOND TIME IT BRAKES THE ENGINE MOUNTS. I HAVE HEARD THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. I THINK IT IS A FACTORY PROBLEM.
I WAS DRIVING TO WORK ON A BUSY HIGHWAY WHEN I NOTICED THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE RISE QUICKLY PAST IT'S NORMAL RANGE. I QUICKLY GOT OFF THE ROAD AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE SHOP AND THE MECHANIC FOUND THAT THERE WAS NO FLUID IN THE RADIATOR. HE DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS A SMALL CRACK. HE INFORMED ME THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH 2007 CIVICS. HE TOLD ME I COULD PUT ANOTHER MOTOR IN IT OR BUY ANOTHER CAR. THE CAR HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AND I HAD EVERY INTENTION TO KEEP IT FOR SEVERAL MORE YEARS. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT HONDA DID NOT INFORM ME OF THE DEFECTS IN THE ENGINE.
AS MANY OF THE OTHER PEOPLE, I HAVE A LEAKING COOLANT CRACK IN THE ENGINE BLOCK DUE TO POOR CASTING, THUS RESULTING IN THE CAR TO DANGEROUSLY OVERHEAT. I HAVE VISITED A LOCAL MECHANIC AND THEY HAVE CONFIRMED IT IS A FAULTY PROBLEM AMONG MANY CIVICS MANUFACTURED THAT GENERATION. THE PROBLEM OTHERS AND I ENCOUNTER IS THE FACT THAT THE CAR EXCEEDS THE 10 YEAR WARRANTY. TO MAKE THE DILEMA WORSE, THE HONDA MANUFACTURING COMPANY DOES GUARANTEE FULL RECOMPENSATION. THEY SUGGEST FOR ONE TO GO IN FOR $100 + INSPECTION THAT DOES NOT COMPLETELY GUARANTEE AID. THE PROBLEMS I ENCOUNTER INCLUDE: AN ONGOING LEAK OF DANGEROUS COOLANT LIQUIDS WHILE DRIVING/PARKED, EXCESSIVE OVERHEATING OF THE ENGINE WHILE DRIVING, AND THE TEAR DOWN OF PARTS(COILS, CYLINDERS, AND SPARK PLUGS) DUE TO UNSTABLE/WORRISOME HIGH TEMPERATURES. I HAVE OVERLOOKED MANY FORUMS AND THREADS OF UNHAPPY HONDA DRIVERS THAT ARE ENCOUNTERING THE SAME PROBLEM AS I HAVE. THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS FOUND HERE HAVE INCREASED SIGNIFICANTLY IN RECENT DAYS. I PLEAD/BEG FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE! MANY OF THE PEOPLE ENCOUNTERING THIS PROBLEM ARE OF LOW INCOME, FEW OF WHICH CANNOT AFFORD REPAIR COSTS AND/OR PURCHASING A NEW VEHICLE; WE PURCHASE THESE TYPE OF CARS FOR THEIR SO-CALLED RELIABILITY. IN MY CASE, I AM A UNIVERSITY STUDENT WHO VITALLY NEEDS A SOURCE OF TRANSPORTATION. ONE MAY ARGUE THAT PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IS THE SOLUTION, BUT THAT LIMITS MY POSSIBILITY FRONTIER AS I ALSO HAVE TO WORK; PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION COSTS TIME ONE COULD BE USING ELSEWHERE. TRUTH OF THE MATTER IS THAT THIS DEFECT IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS TO THE PUBLIC. THERE IS HIGH CORRELATION BETWEEN ENGINE OVERHEATING AND ACCIDENTS THAT ARE WORRISOME.

WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR IT HAD A BLOWN HEAD GASKET. IT WAS FIXD, BUT YESTERDAY THE CAR DIED ON FREEWAY AND TEMP GUAGE SHOT UP. AFTER LOOKING AT OIL DIPSTICK, IT WAS COMPLETELY GONE. IT MELTED. I HAD AN OIL CHANGE ON THE 14TH. COULD THEY HAVE FORGOT TO PUT NEW OIL IN? WHAT WOULD CAUSE MY CAR TO JUST DIE?
THE CAR OVERHEATED SUDDENLY. THE ENGINE BLOCK HAS A CRACK. 134K MILES. WELL MAINTAINED VEHICLE. PERFECTLY GOOD ENGINE CRACKED.
WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY THE CAR STARTED FUMING WITH WHITE SMOKE AND IT GOT INSIDE THE CABIN OF THE CAR AND THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WAS AT 100% ALL OF A SUDDEN AND HAD TO PULL THE CAR TO THE SHOULDER. IT IS A KNOWN MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND HONDA HAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 10-048. INSTEAD WHEN SHE CALLED SHE MENTIONED THAT ITS NOT THEIR PROBLEM AND THEY WILL NOT COVER IT.
CAR BEGAN LEAKING ANTIFREEZE FROM THE ENGINE BLOCK. HONDA ADMITS THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS YEAR AS WELL AS OTHERS BUT REFUSES TO PAY FOR REPAIRS. I HAVE APPEALED WITH AMERICAN HONDA TO NO AVAIL. THEY DO NOT CARE BECAUSE THE CAR IS OUTSIDE OF ITS WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH THEY WILL ADMIT THAT THE ENGINE IS A DEFECT BY HONDA. CAR WAS PARKED AT THE TIME, HAS NO DAMAGES, AND HAS BEEN PROPERLY MAINTAINED.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2007 HONDA CIVIC ON 8/17/19 WHEN I NOTICED MY VEHICLE TEMPERATURE GAUGE INCREASING AT A FAST RATE. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND FOUND OUT THAT MY CAR DIDN'T HAVE ANY COOLANT. THINKING THAT THIS WAS THE PROBLEM, COOLANT WAS FILLED IN THE RADIATOR AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR HOME. HOWEVER, LESS THAN A WEEK LATER, THE CAR BEGAN TO OVERHEAT ONCE AGAIN. AFTER INSPECTION, MY CAR WAS OUT OF COOLANT AGAIN. I TOOK MY CAR TO ED NAPLETON HONDA IN OAK LAWN ON 8/26/19 AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINE CYLINDER BLOCK WAS CRACKED AND WAS CAUSING A LEAK OF THE COOLANT WHICH CAUSES OVERHEATING IN VEHICLES. ALTHOUGH THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT IN HONDA CIVIC MODELS 2006-2009, I WAS TOLD THAT HONDA ISSUED TWO WARRANTY EXTENSIONS FOR UP TO 10 YEARS AND THAT MY CAR WAS TWO YEARS OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY. BECAUSE I'M THE ORIGINAL AND SOLE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE WITH GREAT MAINTENANCE HISTORY, THE DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE MANAGER SUBMITTED A GOODWILL REQUEST TO HONDA CORPORATE ASKING FOR THE COST OF REPAIR TO BE COVERED. HOWEVER, THE REQUEST WAS DENIED BY THE REGIONAL HONDA DISTRICT PARTS AND SERVICE MANAGER. I ESCALATED THE SITUATION TO HONDA CORPORATE AND FOUND OUT FROM A CUSTOMER SERVICE SPECIALIST THAT HONDA DID NOT SEND THE LETTER INFORMING ME OF THE DEFECT AND WARRANTY EXTENSION TO MY CORRECT ADDRESS. FURTHERMORE, IT WAS NOT AN ADDRESS THAT I HAD EVER PROVIDED TO HONDA. AFTER ESCALATING MY ISSUE TO THE REGIONAL CASE MANAGER, I WAS STILL REFUSED ANY ASSISTANCE. THERE ARE OVER 300 COMPLAINTS ABOUT CRACKED ENGINE BLOCKS IN 06-09 HONDA CIVICS ON THE CAR COMPLAINTS WEBSITE ALONE. MANY OWNERS STATE THAT THEIR VEHICLES BEGAN EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS SHORTLY AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRATION. THIS QUESTIONS HONDA'S KNOWLEDGE OF THE LONGEVITY OF THE ENGINE BLOCK AND ALL PARTS INVOLVED. I APPEAL TO NHTSA TO INVESTIGATE THIS ONGOING MATTER AND HOLD HONDA ACCOUNTABLE BY ENFORCING A RECALL.

FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD IN TIME. HONDA RECOGNIZED THAT THE ENGINE BLOCKS FOR 2007 HONDA CIVICS WERE DEFECTIVE (HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN 10-048) BUT NO LONGER COVERS REPAIRS FOR THE SAFETY RISK THAT THEIR DEFECTIVE ENGINE BLOCKS POSE TO DRIVERS OF THESE VEHICLES AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD WHEN THEIR CARS OVERHEAT.
HAS CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM BY HONDA FOR '06,'07',08 AND SOME '9 CIVIC DUE TO A MANUFACTURE DEFECT ON THE BLOCK. HONDA UPGRADED THE WARRANTY TO 10 YEARS FROM DATE OF PURCHASE. THE CRACK OCCURS BETWEEN 95K-110K MILES. I HAVE 101K ON MY CAR. I AM OUT OF WARRANTY PERIOD THEREFORE HONDA HAS DENIED FIXING MY VEHICLE. THE CAR HAS 84,100 MILES ON ODOMETER AND IS IN OTHERWISE EXCELLENT CONDITION. THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ENGINE COSTS $7,600 AND I HAVE PAID FOR IT. LOOKING FOR GUIDANCE ON SOME RECOVERY FROM HONDA. UPON THEIR FINDINGS, THEY TOLD ME IT WAS MY ENGINE BLOCK. WHICH AT THAT TIME THEY EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THERE WAS A WARRANTY FOR CRACKED ENGINE BLOCKS IN WHICH, HONDA HAD EXTENDED IT TO 10 YEARS. THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN GREAT HAD I BEEN THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE VEHICLE TO HAVE IT REPLACED. SADLY I'M THE SECOND OWNER AND WAS UNAWARE OF THIS ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES, ALONG WITH BEING OUT OF WARRANTY BY 3 YEARS. ALMOST 3 YEARS OUT OF WARRANTY. I TOLD THEM THIS CAR IS SERVICED AT HONDA DEALERSHIP AND I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY NOTIFICATION FROM HONDA ABOUT THIS 10 YEAR EXTENSION WARRANTY. THEY WANTED ME TO PAY 5K FOR REPAIR. THIS IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT AND NO AMOUNT OF MAINTENANCE IS GOING TO AVOID THIS. I CALLED AMERICAN HONDA AND GAVE ME A CASE #. SEE HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN 10-48. THE WARRANTY WAS ONLY ISSUED FOR THOSE OWNERS WHO EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM WITHIN THAT 10 YEAR PERIOD OF TIME. AFTER MUCH RESEARCH, IT WAS FOUND THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE. THE REPAIR COST IS $5-6000. AMERICAN HONDA WILL ONLY PAY A VERY SMALL PORTION, LEAVING THE BULK OF THE COST TO THE CONSUMER.

VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. CAR ENGINE CRACKED WHICH IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND KNOWN ISSUE TO HONDA FOR THIS MODEL AND YEAR OF THE CIVIC. I HAD MY THREE KIDS, INCLUDING AN INFANT IN THE CAR. TOOK IT TO HONDA WHERE THEY EXPLAINED THAT THERE WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT WE HAD JUST MISSED. MY CAR IS IN IMPECCABLE SHAPE WITH LOW MILEAGE (80,000). HONDA REFUSED TO COVER THE ENGINE CRACK IN FULL (EXPECTING US TO PLAY 3,000), STATING THAT WE WERE NOT LOYAL HONDA CUSTOMERS AS OUR OTHER CAR WAS A TOYOTA. THE CAR HAD RECENTLY BEEN SERVICED BY HONDA AND THE AIRBAG RECALL WAS FIXED. AT THAT POINT, THEY SHOULD HAVE COMMUNICATED TO US REGARDING THE ENGINE AND THE CHANGES TO WARRANTY BASED ON THE KNOWN ISSUE.
CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK. MY CAR ONLY HAS 127K MILES ON IT AND OUT OF NO WHERE I HAD COOLANT LEAKING AND MY CAR ALMOST OVER HEATED BECAUSE OF IT WHILE I WAS ON THE FREEWAY. II HAD A MECHANIC LOOK AT IT AND THAT'S HOW WE FIGURED OUT THE ENGINE WAS CRACKED. NOT ONCE DID I GET A CALL OR LETTER FROM HONDA INFORMING ME THAT MY CAR HAD A RECALL BECAUSE OF THIS KNOWN ISSUE. WHEN I CALLED HONDA TO SEE IF THEY WILL IN GOOD FAITH FIX MY CAR THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WOULD NEED TO GET DIAGNOSISED BY A HONDA DEALER AND MAYBE THEY CAN DO A SHARED COST BUT IT IS NOT GUARANTEED. NOT ONLY CAN THEY NOT GUARANTEE THAT THEY WILL FIX IT BUT THEY WANTED ME TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE MY CAR TO A DEALER? HOW IS THAT SAFE TO DO? US CONUSMERS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR A DEFECTED CAR THAT THEY BUILT! MY HONDA SHOULD STILL HAVE MORE LIFE TO IT AND NOT DIED OUT ON ME SO EARLY. COOLANT LEAKING AS DESCRIBED BY TSB 10-048 BECAUSE OF DEFECTIVE ENGINE BLOCK THAT CRACKED, PART NUMBER 10002-RNA-A00. HONDA DEALER IN DUBLIN, OHIO SAID HONDA CORPORATION WOULD ONLY PAY 25% OF COST TO REPAIR SINCE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED APPROXIMATELY 1 YEAR AGO.
ANOTHER CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK (R18A1 SOHC 1.8L 4-CYLINDER I-VTEC ENGINE) HONDA CIVIC EX WITH 103,000 MILES. SERVICED REGULARLY WITH HONDA FLUIDS AND OTHERWISE WELL TAKEN CARE OF. BLOCK CRACK AND COOLANT LEAKAGE OCCURRED DRIVING IN URBAN TRAFFIC AT 40 MPH AND RESULTED IN A MODERATE RISE IN ENGINE TEMPERATURE IN TEN MINUTES WHEN THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WAS AT "H". SUBSEQUENTLY THE ENGINE HAS HAD A STEADY DRIP OF COOLANT RUNNING DOWN THE SIDE OF THE ENGINE BLOCK EVEN THOUGH THE ENGINE HAS NOT BEEN STARTED.

I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2016 WITH 95,000 MILES FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. I PREFORMED MAINTENANCE AS REQUIRED AND HAVE NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES. THE CAR HAD BEEN WORKING PERFECTLY UP UNTIL JUNE 5, 2018. HE MENTIONED THAT THIS HAD BEEN A PROBLEM HE'S SEEN WITH HONDA'S. IT WAS A VERY SMALL MAYBE HAIRLINE FRACTURE WHICH HAD CAUSE MY COOLANT TO LEAK AND MY CAR TO OVERHEAT. I WENT HOME AND GOOGLED MY ISSUE. CONSUMERS REPORTS HAD AN ARTICLE DESCRIBING THE ISSUE WITH 2006-2009 HONDA'S WHICH WERE CRACKING AND LEAKING COOLANT. I FOUND A NUMBER AND CONTACTED HONDA BUT THEY INFORMED ME THAT I AM OVER THE WARRANTY LIMIT. I AM STILL WAITING ON A FINAL RESPONSE. I USE MY CAR FOR WORK SO IT ISN'T HEAVILY USED. I KNOW I'M WITHIN THE RANGE OF MANY WHO'VE HAD ISSUES WITH THIS CAR. IT WOULD HAVE TAKEN MORE THAN 10 YEARS TO ADD THE MILES THAT WOULD BE NEEDED FOR THE ENGINE TO START TO FAIL. I NOTICED COOLANT ON THE GARAGE FLOOR. THE COOLANT LEVEL SEEMED LOW. I TOPPED IT UP. NEXT DAY THE CAR ENGINE OIL INDICATOR BECAME HIGH AND THERE WAS SOME SMOKE. I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP AND THEY PRESSURE TESTED THE SYSTEM. THEY FOUND A CRACK IN THE ENGINE BLOCK. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM IN THE 2006-2009 HONDA CIVICS. HONDA HAS APPARENTLY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THIS ENGINE BY 10 YEARS FROM DATE OF PURCHASE BUT HAVE NOT MADE IT PUNLIC NOR HAVE I RECEIVED NOTICE. THE MECHANIC LOOKED AT MY OIL AND IMMEDIATELY DETERMINED THERE WAS COOLANT IN MY ENGINE AND SIGNIFICANT BUILD UP. I WAS NOTIFIED THAT THERE WAS A TSB #10-048 AND #SB-08-044 FOR MY VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD THAT SINCE I AM 5 MONTHS PASSED MY 10 YEAR WARRANTY, THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO FOR ME. MY ISSUE IS, HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS? OUR 2007 HONDA CIVIC IS APPARENTLY PART OF THE SERVICE POSTING HONDA SENT TO ITS SERVICE DEPARTMENTS IN 2010, BUT NOT TO ITS CUSTOMERS, REGARDING A CASTING ISSUE WITH THE ENGINE BLOCKS IN 2006 THROUGH EARLY 2009 CIVICS. WITH THE ENGINE CASTING ISSUE A PERFECTLY MAINTAINED VEHICLE IS STILL BOUND TO OVERHEAT AT SOME POINT IN TIME BECAUSE A BAD ENGINE BLOCK WILL EVENTUALLY LEAK COOLANT. THE UNKNOWN CUSTOMER EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS GOOD FOR SOMETHING LIKE 8 YEARS, OR MAYBE 10, I DON'T KNOW. IN THE LAST YEAR I'VE HAD 3 COIL PACKS GO BAD IN THIS CIVIC ENGINE, THE WATER PUMP REPLACED AND THEN REPLACED A SECOND TIME BECAUSE THE ENGINE KEPT OVERHEATING PROBABLY BECAUSE OF THE LEAKING ENGINE BLOCK. MY DAUGHTER WAS LEFT STRANDED 3 TIMES ON THE ROAD BECAUSE OF THIS ENGINE BLOCK CASTING ISSUE WITH A FORESEEN FUTURE FAILURE THAT WAS HIDDEN FROM THE CUSTOMER. THE LAST TIME THE CAR QUIT SHE WAS LEFT STRANDED ON THE INTERSTATE IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION. EVERYTHING I HAVE READ ON THE INTERNET POINTS TO HONDA ONLY HONORING WHAT THEY WANT TO HONOR ON THIS KNOW MANUFACTURING PROBLEM, AND THIS IS ONLY AFTER CUSTOMERS HAVE BEEN OVERHEATED, AND SOMETIMES LEFT STRANDED ON THE ROAD IN MANY CASES BECAUSE THE COIL PACKS GO BAD AND DO NOT ALLOW THE CAR TO RESTART AND RUN SAFELY. HONDA HAS NOT BEEN FORTHRIGHT CONCERNING THE CASTING MALFUNCTION OF THE 2006 THROUGH EARLY 2009 ENGINE BLOCK. THEY ARE NOT ACTIVELY LOOKING FOR THIS LEAK, AND IF AN ENGINE SNEAKS PAST THE EXTENDED WARRANTY DATE THEN ALL COST IS ON YOU. A SAFETY RECALL NEEDS TO BE PUT OUT ON THESE ENGINES, AND HONDA NEEDS TO BE FORCED TO DO THE RIGHT THING SINCE TO DATE IT LOOKS LIKE THEY HAVE NOT BEEN A GOOD CORPORATE CITIZEN. TO WHOM THIS MAY CONCERN, I AM THE SOLE OWNER OF A 2007 HONDA CIVIC WITH 57,576 MILES ON THE ODOMETER AND I WOULD LIKE TO FILE A FORMAL CLAIM AGAINST AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR COMPANY FOR NOT EXTENDING THE 10 YEAR WARRANTY ON THE ENGINE BLOCK DUE TO AN ENGINEERING/MANUFACTURING DEFECT DURING THE PRODUCTION OF THE VEHICLE. ON 2/1/18 MY CAR WAS DIAGNOSED BY A HONDA CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN, WHO DETERMINED THAT MY ENGINE BLOCK WAS LEAKING COOLANT DUE TO A CRACK BETWEEN CYLINDERS 1 & 2 ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE BLOCK. THE TECHNICIAN EXPLAINED TO ME THAT HONDA ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE BLOCK TO COVER THIS ISSUE BUT MY WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED BY 3 MONTHS AND THEREFORE HONDA WOULD NOT COVER IT. SO, I DECIDED TO FILE A FORMAL CLAIM WITH HONDA AND AFTER GOING BACK AND FORTH FOR A WEEK AND A HALF THEY AGREED TO PAY 50% OF THE COST TO REPLACE THE ENGINE BLOCK, WHICH MEANT THAT I WAS RESPONSIBLE TO PAY $2,658.75 TO MAKE UP THE DIFFERENCE. I FEEL THAT HONDA SHOULD HAVE COVERED THE ENGINE BLOCK REPLACEMENT 100% FREE OF CHARGE DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE ISSUE WAS DUE TO A MANUFACTURES DEFECT. ALSO, THE CAR IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, HAS LOW MILES, AND HAS BEEN MAINTAINED AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT IT WAS PURCHASED AT. AS A CUSTOMER, WHO PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW, I FEEL THAT I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO INVEST MONEY ON REPLACING THE MOTOR DUE TO A DEFECT. THE CUSTOMER SHOULD ONLY BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE . KNOWN ISSUE OF CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK HAPPENING AROUND 90K-110K MILES. MINE JUST HIS 95K AND THE ENGINE BLOCK CRACKED. HONDA ONLY OFFERED TO FIX IT AT FULL RETAIL PRICE MINIMUM OF $4,000. THE CAR WORKED GREAT AND THEN STOPPED WORKING WHILE I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY.
I'VE HAD MU CIVIC 11 YEARS AND DRIVEN THE CAR 167,000 MILES TROUBLE FREE. ON JAN 26, 2018 I DETECTED A SUDDEN COOLANT LEAK WITH ENGINE OVERHEATING AND STEAM COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD WHILE DRIVING. I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE AND WAS SHOCKED WHEN I WAS TOLD I HAD A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK. I WAS FURTHER INFORMED HONDA HAD IDENTIFIED THE DEFECT AND EXTENDED A WARRANTY FOR IT. HOWEVER, I WAS ONE YEAR BEYOND THE WARRANTY PERIOD. IT DOESN'T SEEM FAIR TO ME. THE REPAIR COST WOULD HAVE BEEN EXCESSIVE SO I WOUND UP SELLING THE CAR FOR ITS PARTS VALUE. I'M A BIG HONDA SUPPORTER., I'VE HAD 6 OF THEM, BUT THIS LEFT A BAD TASTE. I STILL THINK HONDA SHOULD DO SOMETHING FOR THOSE OF US WHO HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM. I WOUND UP REPLACING IT WITH A SUBARU.
ENGINE BLOCK WARRANTY EXTENSION. I RECENTLY NOTICED THAT MY CAR STARTED TO OVERHEAT, AND THAT THE COOLANT WAS ALWAYS GONE WITH NO LEAKS. SO I BEGAN THE PROCESS OF CHANGING THE THERMOSTAT, IT ENDED UP NOT BEING THE THERMOSTAT. I CONTINUED THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO TRACK THE PROBLEM. AFTER A RADIATOR, HOSES WATER PUMP AND ALL OTHER THINGS A CAR WOULD NEED TO FUNCTION INVOLVING COOLANT WAS REPLACED I WAS LEFT CLUELESS AND STUMPED. THEREFORE, I WENT TO HONDA FORUMS AND GOOGLE, AND THAT IS WHEN I FOUND OUT ABOUT THE WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR CIVICS BECAUSE THEY WERE DEVELOPING A PROBLEM WITH CRACKED BLOCKS. THIS EXPLAINED EVERYTHING, WENT TO FORUMS AND A LOT OF PEOPLE WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS THE WORST AND BASICALLY TOLD MOST PEOPLE THAT IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND MOST OF THE PEOPLE DID NOT EVEN RECEIVE A NOTICE SUCH AS MYSELF. THE ENGINE BLOCKS AREA COMPLETELY WEAK AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED. THIS ISSUE USUALLY OCCURS AROUND 80,000-110,000 MILES. THIS WARRANTY NEEDS TO BE EXTENDED ESPECIALLY FOR PEOPLE WHO BOUGHT THE CAR USED AS MYSELF, I RECEIVED A NOTICE FOR THE AIRBAGS AND DID NOT RECEIVE A NOTICE ABOUT THE MOTORS, SO I BELIEVE IT IS NOT FAIR AND THAT HONDA REALLY IS STEALING MONEY FROM PEOPLE.
I HAVE A 2007 HONDA CIVIC EX COUPE WITH ONLY 99K MILES AND DUE TO A MANUFACTURING DEFECT NOW HAS A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK. HONDA HAS A SERVICE BULLETIN #10-048 WHICH STATES THE 2007 CIVIC AND OTHER YEARS HAVE MANUFACTURING DEFECT. MY CIVIC STARTED OVER HEATING ON DEC.25TH 2017 ON THE WAY OUT TO MY FAMILIES HOUSE FOR CHRISTMAS AND I HAD TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD DUE TO THE OVERHEATING AND SMOKE WE SAW COMING FROM THE ENGINE. AFTER LOOKING UNDER THE HOOD I SAW THERE WAS NO COOLANT IN THE RESERVOIR AND I COULDN'T DETECT A COOLANT LEAK. THE NEXT DAY DEC.26TH 2017 I REPLACED THE THERMOSTAT ON MY CIVIC PRESUMING THAT THE THERMOSTAT WAS STICKING AND COOLANT WAS NOT CIRCULATING. THAT WAS OBVIOUSLY NOT THE CASE BECAUSE YET AGAIN THE NEXT DAY DEC.27TH 2017 IT OVERHEATED AND I HAD TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOTICED A SEVERE COOLANT LEAK COMING FROM THE ENGINE BLOCK. WHEN I GOT THE CAR HOME I DID SOME RESEARCH AND NOTICED A HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN (ABOVE) AND SAW WE WERE NOT THE ONLY ONES HAVING THIS ISSUE. WE CALLED AMERICAN HONDA AND THEY STARTED A CASE FOR US AND RECOMMENDED THAT WE TAKE IT TO OUR LOCAL HONDA TO BE INSPECTED FURTHER. WE MADE A APPOINTMENT FOR THE INSPECTION AND AFTER HONDA INSPECTED IT THEY DIAGNOSED IT WITH A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK. THIS IS DO TO THEIR FAULTY DEFECTED PRODUCT. HONDA SHOULD STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT AND FIX THE ISSUE. THIS CAR WAS METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED BY MY LOCAL HONDA AND HAS BEEN IN THE FAMILY. WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED OF THIS BULLETIN OR ELSE WE WOULD HAD BROUGHT OUR CIVIC IN SOONER BEFORE THERE SUPPOSED EXTRA 10 YEAR WARRANTY EXPIRED. IT SHOULDN'T MATTER HOW MANY YEARS HONDA KNOWS THIS IS A ONGOING ISSUE AND IT WILL CONTINUE TO HAPPEN IF IT DOESN'T GET TAKEN CARE OF THE RIGHT WAY. THIS COULD POTENTIALLY BE A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND I BELIEVE HONDA NEEDS TO STEP UP.

THIS CAUSE TEMPERATURE TO BECOME RED WITH WHITE SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE FRONT HOOD WHILE I WAS DRIVING WITH MY WIFE AND 3 MONTH BABY. IT LOOKS VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. WE FOUND OUT HONDA HAD EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THIS TO 10 YEARS BECAUSE OF KNOWN DEFECTS. UNFORTUNATELY, I EXPERIENCED THE DEFECT 14 MONTHS AFTER MY CIVIC'S 10 YEAR WARRANTY PERIOD. HONDA CORPORATE AND OUR LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIPS ARE NOT WILLING TO HONOR AND FIX THIS DEFECT. THE WANT TO CHARGE $5,000 TO FIX IT. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL AS SO MANY PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THIS. A CAR SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED UNSAFE TO DRIVE AT 11 YEARS OLD AND REQUIRE $5,000 REPAIR, AND POSE A RISK OF ENDANGERING A FAMILY WITH A NEWBORN SAFETY.
I WAS IN A HIGHWAY AND MY ENGINE HEATED. I LET IT COOL DOWN AND FOUND OUT THAT THE COOLANT/ ANTIFREEZE HAD BEEN DEPLETED COMPLETELY. I REPLENISHED IT. LATER DIAGNOSIS RESULTED IN IDENTIFICATION OF CRACK FROM THE ENGINE BLOCK. MY 2007 CIVIC HAD GONE OUT OF WARRANTY FOR THEIR EXTENDED 10 YEARS. IT HAS LOW MILEAGE OF 94000 MILES. THESE SPECIFIC PROBLEMS SEEM TO OCCUR IN HONDAS AT AROUND 90K TO 110K. SO FOR PEOPLE LIKE US WHO HAVE LOW MILEAGE, WE ARE NOT HELPED BY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET WHICH I CANNOT AFFORD. I FEEL LIKE I HAVE BEEN CHEATED. THE RECALL NUMBER IS A10-048
ENGINE BLOCK- ENGINE BLOCK CRACKED CAUSING MY TO LEAK FLUIDS AND HAVE MY CAR OVERHEAT INSTANTLY WHILE DRIVING. HONDA ISSUES A TEN YEAR WARRANTY ON THE ENGINE BLOCK BUT MY CAR IS FIVE MONTHS PAST DUE OF THE WARRANTY. HONDA KNEW THAT ITS ENGINE BLOCK WAS FLAWED AND REFUSES TO FIX IT EVEN THOUGH I COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY HURT OR EVEN KILLED BECAUSE OF THIS DEFECT.

I WAS FLABBERGASTED! I PURCHASED MY HONDA DUE TO THEIR REPUTATION OF RELIABILITY AND LONGEVITY. HOW COULD THEY BE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND ONLY ISSUE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND NOT A RECALL. I CONTACTED THE AMERICAN HONDA CORPORATION AND THEY SAID BASED ON MY VIN#, MY VEHICLE IS OUT OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD BY 4 MONTHS AND THEY WILL NOT COVER THE REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF THE ENGINE BLOCK. I FEEL THE NHTSA NEED TO FORCE HONDA TO ISSUE A RECALL ON ALL HONDA CIVICS BETWEEN THE YEARS OF 2006 TO 2009 WITH CRACKED ENGINE BLOCKS. I HAVE READ IT WAS DUE TO POOR CASTING THAT CAUSED THESE ENGINE BLOCKS TO CRACK. HONDA WILL CONTINUE TO RECEIVE CALLS AND COMPLAINTS IN REGARDS TO THIS ISSUE BECAUSE THEY HAVE SOLD MILLIONS OF THESE VEHICLES TO UNBEKNOWNST AMERICANS.

HONDA TSB# 10-048, MY SONS HONDA CIVIC OVER HEATED DUE TO A KNOWN CRACK ISSUE IN THE ENGINE BLOCK. THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED AS A USED CAR FROM A HONDA DEALER. HE WAS DRIVING HIS CAR WHEN IT JUST STARTED TO SHUT DOWN AND HE HAD TO PULL OVER. THE ENGINE OVERHEATED WITHOUT WARNING WHILE HE WAS DRIVING AND GOT SO HOT THAT IT MELTED THE OIL DIP STICK (SEE IMAGE), LUCKY IT DID NOT GO ON FIRE, THE IGNITION COIL WAS ALSO MELTED TO THE ENGINE BLOCK. I KNOW THAT HONDA EXTENDED THEIR WARRANTY ON THIS, AND MY CAR IS 2 MONTHS PASS THAT DATE WITH ONLY 57K MLES ON IT. WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO PAY FOR A KNOW ISSUE THAT CAN SHOW UP AT GIVEN TIME. WHETHER IT IS 5,10 OR 20 YEARS IT IS A KNOW DEFECT AND HONDA AS COMPANY SHOULD BE STANDING BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT. I NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTIFICATION OF THIS ISSUE IN WRITING FROM HONDA AT ANYTIME TO WATCH FOR THIS POTENTIAL PROBLEM. I UNDERSTAND IT WOULD BE A FINANCIAL BURDEN TO DO A COMPLETE RECALL BUT I BELIEVE THAT IS WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT AWARE OF THIS POTENTIAL DANGER.

VEHICLE WOULD NOT START UP AGAIN AND REQUIRED TO BE TOWED.IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE BLOCK WAS CRACKED AND LEAKING FLUIDS. HONDA KNEW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 10 YEARS. MY CAR WAS PURCHASED IN OCT OF 2006 AND INCIDENT OCCURRED IN SEPT OF 2017. MY VEHICLE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION BUT HONDA HAS ONLY OFFERED TO PAY $3000 OF THE $6100 REPAIR. I FIND THAT THAT IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH AND THEY SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS DEFECT AND SHOULD HAVE RECALLED THIS MODEL AND NOT WAIT FOR THE ENGINE TO CRACK. THEY KNEW OF THIS DEFECT AND PLAYED THE ODDS THAT NOT ALL OF THE CARS WOULD BREAKDOWN. I NEVER EVEN RECIEVED THE NOTIFICATION OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. I FOUND OUT ABOUT IT AFTER BREAKDOWN AND RESEARCHING IT ON INTERNET. A FULL RECALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN IMPLEMENTED IF THEY KNEW THERE WAS A FAULTY ENGINE BLOCK.

THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE UNKNOWN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER FOR THE FAILURE HAD EXPIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 166,000.
WE HAVE A 2007 HONDA CIVIC WITH 62200 MILES AND NOTICED IT STARTED RUNNING HOT AND ROUGH IDLE. TOOK IT IN TO A REPAIR SHOP WE HAVE USED FOR YEARS( THAT ALSO DOES MANUFACTURES AUTHORIZED MAINTENANCE) FOR THE PROBLEM, AND IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK. WE ARE TWO MONTHS TO THE DAY OUT OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THIS KNOWN PROBLEM. WE HAVE NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTICE FROM HONDA ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THIS WAS MY WIFE'S MAIN VEHICLE, AND THANKFULLY THIS WAS NOT A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE THAT LEFT HER STRANDED. THIS IS NOT A SMALL COMPONENT FAILURE. THIS LEAVES THE CAR UNDRIVABLE AND PRACTICALLY WORTHLESS FOR TRADE-IN OR RESALE.
THE PASSENGER-SIDE MOTOR MOUNT HAS COLLAPSED PREMATURELY, CAUSING THE ENGINE VIBRATION TO BE TRANSFERRED TO THE FRAME OF THE CAR. THIS IS A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM WITH HONDA CIVIC OWNERS.

MY ENGINE CRACKED AT 10 YRS, 3 MOS. CALLED HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE (CA) 800-999-1009. HONDA AGENT SAID CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, HONDA CAN'T HELP ME. SPOKE TO HONDA AGENT'S REGIONAL MANAGER; SAME STORY, UNWILLING TO HELP. IF ENGINE CRACKED 3 MOS EARLIER, FREE REPLACEMENT. I OFFERED TO SHARE REPAIR COST, HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER SAID NO, AND SHE WOULD NOT LET ME SPEAK TO HER SUPERIOR. SHE TOLD ME TO TAKE LEGAL ACTION IF I FELT HONDA OWED ME SOMETHING. NEW ENGINE IS A $4000-$5000 FIX, MORE THAN VALUE OF CAR. I'M STUCK WITH WORTHLESS CIVIC WITH CRACKED ENGINE AND ONLY 124K MILES. WILL NEVER BUY HONDA AGAIN AFTER THIS EXPERIENCE. BUYER BEWARE OF USED 2006-2009 HONDA CIVICS.

I HEARD THAT HONDA GAVE CIVIC OWNERS A 10-YEAR WARRANTY FROM DATE OF PURCHASE BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED 10-YEARS AND 3 MONTHS AFTER THE DATE OF PURCHASE (MAY 2007). WHEN THIS OCCURRED, I WAS DOING CITY STREETS AND NOTICED IT WHEN IT WAS STATIONERY.
AFTER DRIVING MY CAR 3 MILES, I NOTICED STEAM COMING FROM THE ENGINE. I PARKED THE CAR AND IT HAD A SMELL OF RADIATOR FLUID. AFTER LETTING IT COOL, I LOOKED INSIDE THE RADIATOR AND NOTICED THERE WAS NO FLUID LEFT. WE FILLED IT UP AND BROUGHT IT TO THE LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. THEY SAID THE ENGINE BLOCK HAD CRACKED. HONDA HAD ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR 10 YEARS FOR THE ORIGINAL SELL DATE FOR CARS WITH THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM. UNFORTUNATELY, MY CAR IS OUT OF THE 10 YEAR WARRANTY BY 6 MONTHS. HONDA WILL NOT HELP OUT IN ANY WAY SINCE I AM OUT OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD EVEN THOUGH IT'S A KNOWN FAULT.

I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE THIS SPRING IN MAY 2016. IT HAS ONLY 46,000 MILES ON IT AS OF TODAY 1/9/17. I HAD NOTICED THIS FALL WHEN IT WAS GETTING COOLER OUTSIDE A VIBRATION IN THE FRONT END. THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE ENGINE BLOCK OF MY VEHICLE CAUSING IT TO LEAK COOLANT, WHICH LED TO THE VEHICLE OVERHEATING. BECAUSE OF THIS I HAVE MULTIPLE ISSUES WITH MY CAR AND NOW NEED A NEW ENGINE. FOR THAT I TOOK MY CAR IN BUT THE HONDA DEALERSHIP IS ONLY OFFERING TO PAY FOR THE CRACKED BLOCK AND NOT THE DAMAGE DONE DO TO THIS ISSUE. THEN HE SAID THIS CAR HAS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT I ASKED HIM HOW MUCH A REPAIR WOULD BE OR NEW ENGINE HE SAID ABOUT 1800. I WENT ONLINE AND FOUNDS 100S MAYBE 1000S OF REPORTS ON THIS SECRET EXTENDED WARRANTY ON CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK ON MODELS 2006 TO 2009 HONDA CIVIC. MOST REPORTS WERE THAT HONDA COULDN'T DO ANYTHING IF YOUR VEHICLE WAS DEEMED SALVAGE. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL. THE PREVIOUS OWNER MY MOTHER OR, MYSELF COULD'VE BEEN IN BAD ACCIDENT ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS CAR HAS BEEN IN ZERO ACCIDENTS THAT WOULD IMPACT THE ENGINE ASIDE FROM TINY FENDER BENDERS IN THE SHOPPING MARKET. I BELIEVE ALL HONDA OWNERS SHOULD COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SAFETY ISSUES WITH BAD ENGINE BLOCK. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL. THE CAR HAD A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK THAT HONDA ADMITTED IS A DEFECT OF THIS MODEL CAR BUT THEY ARE ONLY COVERING REPAIR FOR PEOPLE WHO COME IN WITH A PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP SUPPOSEDLY REPLACED THE CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK WITH A NEW ONE. THE ENGINE LIGHT HAS COME ON 3 ADDITIONAL TIMES IN THE PAST MONTH SINCE THE ENGINE BLOCK WAS REPLACED. THE FIRST TIME WE WERE TOLD IT WAS THE OXYGEN SENSOR AND PAID APPROX. $380 FOR REPAIRS BECAUSE THEY CLAIM IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE INITIAL PROBLEM. LESS THEN AN HOUR AFTER GETTING THE CAR BACK THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. THIS TIME THEY SAID THAT THERE WAS DUST ON A SENSOR DO TO THE WORK THEY DID. THEY CLAIMED TO REPAIR IT FOR NO CHARGE. I HAVE A 2007 HONDA CIVIC LX WITH 36,000 MILES. I WAS TURNING LEFT INTO A PARKING SPACE GOING VERY SLOWLY (<5 MPH) WHEN MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. MY FOOT WAS NOT ON THE GAS PEDAL. AFTER A WHILE THE CHARGE INDICATOR JUMPS UP TO FULL, USUALLY WITH DO PARTIAL FULL STEPS, AND THEN THE BOOST RESUMES WORK. HOWEVER IF I CLIMB ANY REASONABLE HILL ON THE HIGHWAY THE CHARGE INDICATOR DROPS TO THE POINT WHERE THERE IS NO BOOST. IT IS QUITE CLEAR THAT THE BATTERY WILL NOT HOLD A PROPER CHARGE. IT IS INCREASINGLY BECOMING A SAFETY PROBLEM SINCE WHEN STARTING UP IN TRAFFIC I CANNOT RELY ON THE IMA BOOST TO BE THERE WHEN NEEDED. WHAT HAPPENED TO ME AT 60,000 MILES HAS HAPPENED TO OTHERS AT 600 MILES, AND IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN TOMORROW. THE REPAIR COST TO REPLACE THE CONDENSER ($600) IS PROHIBITIVE, AND THE LACK OF A PROTECTIVE GRILLE IS A GLARING DESIGN FLAW. A RECALL IS WARRANTED. I WAS DRIVING UP A HILL TOWARD AN INTERSECTION WITH A HEAVILY TRAVELLED CROSS STREET. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AS I APPROACHED THE INTERSECTION AND IMMEDIATELY THE ENGINE REVVED UP. WITHIN A FEW SECONDS IN SPITE OF PUTTING ALL MY WEIGHT ON THE BRAKE THE CAR BEGAN GRADUALLY EDGING FORWARD INTO THE INTERSECTION. WITHOUT TAKING MY FOOT OF THE BRAKE I SHIFTED INTO PARK AND THE ENGINE WENT BACK TO ITS REGULAR IDLING SPEED. I TOOK IT INTO A HONDA DEALER AND THEY CHECKED IT OUT BUT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THIS PROBLEM HAS NOT RECCURRED, YET.

DEALER STATED HONDA WOULD COVER REPLACEMENT OF THE ENGINE BLOCK UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. HOWEVER WHILE REPLACING THE ENGINE BLOCK, ADDITIONAL DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE ASSEMBLY WAS FOUND THAT RESULTED FROM THE ENGINE OVERHEATING. I RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM HONDA CORPORATION THAT THE WARRANTY ON MY 2007 HONDA CIVICS' ENGINE BLOCK HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO EIGHT YEARS FROM DATE OF PURCHASE. I READ ONLINE THAT THE ENGINE BLOCKS WILL CRACK AS A RESULT OF DEFECTIVE CASTING AT THE TIME THE ENGINE BLOCKS WERE MANUFACTURED. I TOOK MY 2007 CIVIC HYBRID FOR A SERVICE AT BUENA PARK HONDA ON 9/16/10 AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE IS A RECALL TO MY CAR ABOUT THE IMA BATTERY. THEY SAID THEY WILL FIX THE PROBLEM. AFTER 2 DAYS OF DRIVING, I NOTICED THAT I WAS NOT GETTING THE BATTERY ASSIST THAT I USED TO GET. MY 2007 HONDA CIVIC EX. FIRST STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS AT AROUND 50,000 MILES WHEN THE CAR WAS HESITANT TO ACCELERATE, AND THE CAR OVERHEATED ONCE. I TOOK INTO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP, VERY INFORMAL, THEY GAVE ME NO PAPERWORK OR PROOF THAT THEY LOOKED AT MY VEHICLE, THEY CLAIMED THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE AND THAT IT MAY HAVE BEEN PLACE UNDER UNUSUALLY HARSH CONDITIONS OR THE EXTREME OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE OF 92 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT COULD HAVE CAUSED THE OVERHEATING. THE HONDA CERTIFIED MECHANIC DID NOT OBSERVED THE VEHICLE TO BE OVERHEATING, AND COULD NOT REPLICATE ANY ISSUES ON THE VEHICLE. THINKING THAT THEY MADE A FULL DIAGNOSIS I CONTINUED TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE. A FEW MONTHS LATER THE CAR STARTED TO SMELL LIKE SOMETHING WAS BURNING AND THE CAR WAS VERY HESITANT TO MOVE, I PLACED THE VEHICLE ON PARK AND LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD, SMOKE WAS COMING OUT AND I LOOKED UNDER THE CAR AND WHAT LOOKED LIKE ANTIFREEZE WAS DRIPPING UNDER THE CAR. I IMMEDIATELY HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND ASKED TO MAKE ANOTHER DIAGNOSIS, THIS TIME THEY CAME BACK AND SAID THAT MY VEHICLE HAD A CRACK ON THE ENGINE BLOCK. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP SAID THAT SINCE THE CAR IS OVER THE DESIGNATED WARRANTY MILES TO BE COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET, ABOUT 5,000 DOLLARS. DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THE ENGINE BLOCK CRACKING IS A COMMON ISSUE ON THIS VEHICLE AND THAT IT COULD BE A MANUFACTURER DEFECT, BUT THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIX IT BECAUSE THE MANUFACTURER IS NOT COVERING THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE FACT THAT ITS OVER THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY. WHEN I ENTERED THE LANE, THE NEXT CAR BEHIND ME WAS 30-40 YARDS BACK, BUT I DID NOT HAVE SUFFICIENT ACCELERATION TO MATCH THE SPEED IN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. THANKFULLY THE DRIVER BEHIND ME WAS PAYING ATTENTION AND ABLE TO SLOW DOWN TO AVOID A COLLISION. 2007 HONDA CIVIC EX FAULTY AC CONDENSER. STOPPED WORKING ABRUPTLY. DEALER TOLD ME BEFORE LOOKING AT IT THAT IT WAS A ROCK THAT HAD PUT A HOLE IN IT. INDICATED THEY HAD SEEN NUMEROUS CONDENSERS ON 2007 HONDA MODELS THAT THIS HAD HAPPENED. THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE IT, EVEN WITH IT UNDER WARRANTY SINCE THEY DETERMINED IT TO BE A ROCK THAT CAUSED THIS SMALL HOLE. I FOLLOWED UP ON INTERNET AND SAW THAT THERE HAVE BEEN HUNDREDS OF OTHER HONDA OWNERS WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM AND HONDA REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING TO HELP. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY A DEFECTIVE MAKE IN THIS VEHICLE. HONDA DOES NOT WANT TO ASSUME ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS PROBLEM THAT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SUN VISORS WERE WARPED AND WOULD CONTINUOUSLY SWING DOWN AND FLAP BACK AND FORTH, OBSTRUCTING THE DRIVER'S VIEW OF THE ROADWAY. THE ENGINE WOULD ALSO OVERHEAT FREQUENTLY AND THE ENGINE BLOCK WAS CRACKED. IN ADDITION, THE TEMPERATURE GAUGES WOULD NOT PROPERLY MONITOR THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE. THE ENGINE RPMS WOULD OFTEN EXHIBIT AND ABNORMAL INCREASE. ON ONE OCCASION WHILE EXITING THE HIGHWAY ON AN INCLINE, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND BEGAN TO ROLL BACKWARD ON THE RAMP. THE CONTACT BARELY MISSED CRASHING INTO A TRACTOR TRAILER. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED TAKING THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER ALSO STATED THEY WOULD COVER NINETY PERCENT OF THE ENGINE BLOCK REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN THE POSSESSION OF THE DEALER FOR OVER ONE MONTH. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 74,900.
I DRIVE A 2007 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. THE CAR IS BARELY 3 YEARS OLD WITH LESS THAN 36,000 MILES. IN JUNE WHILE STARTING FROM A DEAD STOP ON A HILL AND DRIVING IN GENTLY ROLLING HILLS THE INTEGRATED MOTOR ASSIST WOULD OFTEN FAIL TO ENGAGE TO PROVIDE THE EXTRA POWER NEEDED TO CLIMB THE HILL. THE ENGINE REVVED TO 3000 - 3500 RPM BUT HAD NO POWER. WHEN STARTING FROM THE DEAD STOP THE CAR COULD NOT HOLD IT'S POSITION ON THE HILL. THE DEALER COULD NOT FIGURE OUT THE CAUSE BUT THEY APPLIED TWO SOFTWARE UPDATES TO THE COMPUTER THAT MIGHT HELP. THEY ALSO CONTACTED THE HONDA TECHLINE. HONDA TOLD MY DEALER THAT GIVEN THE AGE OF THE BATTERY (3 YEARS) AND WHEN THE TEMPERATURE REACHES 100 DEGREES (THERE WAS A COINCIDENTAL HEAT WAVE IN THE EAST) THIS WAS NORMAL OPERATION. ON THE SPECIFIC DAY THIS PROBLEM STARTED TEMPERATURES WERE IN THE EIGHTIES. THE DEALER SPENT TWO WEEKS TRYING TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND A THIRD WEEK ARGUING WITH HONDA THAT THE CAR DID NOT RUN RIGHT. AT THIS POINT I CONTACTED HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY OPENED AN 'INVESTIGATION'. THEY TOOK MY STATEMENT AND CONTACTED THE DEALER. THEIR CONCLUSION WAS THAT THE CAR IS OPERATING PERFECTLY NORMALLY. THIS TIME THEY SAID THAT GIVEN THE AGE OF THE BATTERY, IF YOU USE THE IMA TOO MUCH THE IMA BATTERY MAY OVERHEAT AND SHUT DOWN. THAT IS HONDA'S OFFICIAL POSITION AND THEY REFUSE TO TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE SAFETY CONCERNS OF THIS PROBLEM ARE OBVIOUS. FORTUNATELY TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT AND THERE WERE NO ACCIDENTS. MY WIFE DRIVES A 2003 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID WITH OVER 100,000 MILES AND HAS NEVER ENCOUNTERED THIS PROBLEM. THERE WAS A TOTAL REDESIGN OF THE CIVIC IN 2006. PERHAPS THE HONDA ENGINEERS OUTSMARTED THEMSELVES AND INTRODUCED A DESIGN FLAW. 2007 HONDA CIVIC EX 4DR - THE ENGINE LEAKED COOLANT WITH NO WARNING. HAD IT TOWED TO HONDA DEALER AND THEY SAY THE ENGINE BLOCK IS CRACKED AT THE COOLANT PASSAGES. HONDA DEALER SAYS THEY HAVE SEEN THIS IN THE PAST (TSB #SB-08-044). I AM BEING TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT I NEED A NEW ENGINE BLOCK (APPROX $5,000.00). THE CAR HAS 99,600 MILES ON IT AND I HAVE BEEN THE ONLY OWNER. ALL MAINTENANCE / SERVICE HAS BEEN PROVIDED BY THE HONDA DEALER FOR CARS LIFE. AS OF RIGHT NOW, HONDA SAYS IT WILL PAY 50% (APPROX. $2,500.00). *TR

I CURRENTLY OWN A 2007 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. THE HONDA CIVIC HYBRID RELIES ON THE HYBRID BATTERIES (IMA BATTERIES) TO POWER THE VEHICLE DURING ACCELERATIONS AND ON A NORMAL BASIS THE BATTERIES ARE RECHARGED DURING VEHICLE DECELERATIONS. THE ISSUE I AM HAVING HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER A YEAR WITH NO SUPPORT TO FIX THE ISSUE FROM HONDA. THE CHARGE IN MY IMA BATTERIES IS ALWAYS 0-2 BARS (I HAVE PHOTOS SHOWING THIS) WHICH CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO HAVE VERY LIMITED ACCELERATION. ADD THE A/C BEING ON NOW IN THE SUMMER AND THE CAR IS BASICALLY USELESS. ALSO, WHEN THE SYSTEM (VEHICLE COMPUTER) SEES THAT THE IMA BATTERIES ARE LOW OR EMPTY IT FORCES THE ENGINE TO RECHARGE THE BATTERIES WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED ,WHICH IS NOT A 'NORMAL' OPERATION. WHEN THE SYSTEM GOES INTO A 'FORCED' RECHARGE IT COMMANDS THE ENGINE TO GO TO A HIGHER RPM TO CHARGE THE BATTERIES WHEN YOU ARE STOPPED THIS IN TURN CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO JUMP OR LURCH FORWARD WHEN YOU RELEASE THE BRAKE PEDAL. THIS ALSO CONCERNS ME SINCE YOU NEED TO ENSURE YOU LEAVE ENOUGH SPACE BETWEEN YOU AND THE CAR IN FRONT OF YOU AND ESPECIALLY LEAVE SPACE IF YOU ARE BEHIND A PEDESTRIAN CROSSWALK. I HAVE CONTACT ALL THE HONDA DEALERS IN THE EAST VALLEY AND THEY TELL ME THE SAME STORY. I HAD AN APPOINTMENT AT A DEALER FOR TODAY ALREADY, SO I BROUGHT THIS UP TO THEM. THEY SAID IT WAS A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK. THIS CAR IS A 2007 HONDA CIVIC LX, WITH ~65K MILES ON IT. MY HONDA CIVIC 2007 GOT OVERHEATED AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 7 MINUTES FROM HOME ON MY WAY TO WORK EARLY MORNING. NEVER SEEN ANY VISIBLE LEAKS ON THE DRIVEWAY. THE MAINTENANCE ON THE CAR IS ALWAYS UP TO DATE AND MOST OF THE TIME IS DONE BY THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM. AFTER I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED, THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE CAR HAS POROUS LEAK ON THE ENGINE BLOCK CAUSED BY A DEFECT WHEN THE CASTING OF THE ENGINE TOOK PLACE AT HONDA'S MANUFACTURING PLANT. THIS POROUS LEAK CAUSED THE ENGINE BLOCK TO CRACK AND LOSE COOLANT AND EVENTUALLY OVERHEAT THE CAR. THE DEALER RECOMMENDED ME TO REPLACE THE WHOLE ENGINE. THE DEALER EVEN FAXED ME THE SERVICE BULLETIN FROM HONDA REGARDING THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM. THE CAR CURRENTLY HAS ABOUT 90,000 MILES ON IT. SINCE THE CAR HAS PASSED THE WARRANTY PERIOD OF 60,000 MILES OR 3 YEARS WHICHEVER COMES FIRST, THE DEALER WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR AND ADVISED ME TO CALL AMERICAN HONDA. AFTER CALLING AMERICAN HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER AND TELLING THEM ABOUT THE PROBLEM, THEY REFUSED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE AND INSISTED THAT IT WAS NOT CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE ENGINE INSTEAD IT WAS TOTALLY MY FAULT FOR LETTING THE CAR OVERHEATED. I TRIED TO CALL HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE ABOUT THREE TIMES WITH NO RESULTS WHATSOEVER. THEY KEPT SAYING THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO DUE TO HIGH MILEAGE THAT THE CAR HAS. *TR

IN NOVEMBER 2009, I PURCHASED A USED 2007 HONDA CIVIC FROM A USED DEALERSHIP IN ALPHARETTA, GA. IT WAS PURCHASED AS IS SO I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO VOYLES HONDA IN MARIETTA, GA FOR A TOTAL CHECK-UP. THE CAR WAS SERVICED AND GIVEN THE GREEN LIGHT. IT HAD 74,960 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME. ON MARCH 8, 2010, ON MY WAY BACK HOME FROM JACKSONVILLE, FL THE CAR STARTED TO DECELERATE QUICKLY. I WAS ON I95 NORTHBOUND WITH MY SON, AND IT WAS A VERY SCARY FEW MOMENTS FOR US. WE MANAGED TO PARK THE CAR ON THE EMERGENCY LANE. THE CAR WOULD NOT COME BACK ON. WHEN WE LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD, THERE WAS NO SMOKE BUT THERE WAS A FUNNY SMELL. MY SON TOOK THE DIPSTICK OUT OF THE ENGINE AND IT WAS MELTED! WE HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO YULEE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO SAID THE ENGINE WAS GONE. AFTER STAYING IN A LOCAL HOTEL FOR THE NIGHT, MY HUSBAND PICKED US UP ON MARCH 9. WHEN I GOT HOME I MADE ARRANGEMENTS TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO GRAINGER HONDA IN SAVANNAH. GRAINGER GETS THE CAR IN AND AFTER A $92.00 CHARGE FOR LOOKING AT IT, TELLS ME THAT THE ENGINE IS GONE AND THEY CAN GET ME A GREAT DEAL FOR $4,600.00 (A USED ENGINE WITH 19,000 MILES ON IT). WELL IN THE MEAN TIME, MY SON HAD BEEN RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM ON LINE AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE MANY 2006-2007 HONDA CIVIC OWNERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. HE FOUND HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN 08-044 WHICH STATES THERE IS A MECHANICAL DEFECT IN SOME OF THESE ENGINES. THE BULLETIN ALSO STATES THAT CUSTOMERS THAT ARE OUT OF WARRANTY WHEN THIS HAPPENS MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR GOODWILL CONSIDERATION. I EXPLAINED SEVERAL EMPLOYEES OF GRAINGER HONDA BUT THEIR RESPONSE WAS THAT THEY WOULD NEED TO 'TAKE DOWN' THE ENGINE AT A TUNE OF ABOUT $500-$600. HE SAID THEY MIGHT BE WILLING TO PICK UP 25% OF THE COST. I TOLD HIM ABSOLUTELY NOT. I TOLD HIM THIS WAS A DEFECT THAT HONDA WAS VERY MUCH AWARE OF AND THAT HONDA SHOULD PAY FOR THE ENTIRE REPAIR. I ALSO CONTACTED HONDA OF AMERICA AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD DO NOTHING. *TR
2007 HONDA CIVIC WITH CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK AND COOLANT WAS LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE. *KB THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THERE WAS A CASTING DEFECT IN THE ENGINE BLOCK AND A TSB HAD BEEN ISSUED. *JB
IT COULD BE SERIOUS ACCIDENT ON THE HIGHWAY, AND I COULD BE DEAD, TOO. BUT HONDA DOESN'T GIVE ME A GOOD RESPONSE FOR THIS CASE. I PURCHASED THIS CAR 35 MONTHS AGO, AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 68,000 MILES. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR SERVICED SINCE PURCHASE BY HONDA OF DECATUR AS RECOMMENDED BY THE OWNER'S MANUAL. I HAD THE CAR SERVICED THE FIRST WEEK OF FEBRUARY WITH A TYPE B SERVICE. THE DEALER PERSONNEL DIDN'T MENTION ANY MAINTENANCE ISSUES WITH THE DRIVE TRAIN AFTER THIS SERVICE. ON FEBRUARY 9, 2010 I NOTICE AN UNUSUAL SWEET SMELL AS I DROVE MY CAR TO THE AIRPORT. BECAUSE I WAS TRAVELING ON BUSINESS, I HAD TO LEAVE THE CAR AND PICK IT UP ON FEBRUARY 11TH. SHORTLY AFTER RETURNING ON FEBRUARY 11, 2010 THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE SHOWED THE ENGINE WAS OVERHEATING AND SOME SMOKE CAME OUT. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE HONDA DEALER IN HUNTSVILLE, AL WHICH WAS THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP. AFTER THE CAR WAS EXAMINED I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER'S SERVICE ADVISOR THAT THERE IS A CRACK IN ENGINE BLOCK. AT THIS TIME THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO IDENTIFY A CAUSE FOR THIS CRACK. AS I EXPLAINED ABOVE THE CAR WAS RECENTLY SERVICED AND THE ANTI-FREEZE SHOULD HAVE PREVENTED FREEZE DAMAGE. THE DEALER HAS ESTIMATED THE REPAIR WILL COST $3,500-$3,700 AND BECAUSE OF THE MILEAGE THEY INDICATE THAT HONDA OF HUNTSVILLE WILL NOT ABLE TO SUBMIT A WARRANTY CLAIM ON MY BEHALF. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY 2007 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID, I WAS STOPPED IN TRAFFIC ON A BUSY STREET. I WAS WAITING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN INTO A BUSINESS. WHEN I WENT TO TURN, THE CAR WAS VERY SLUGGISH AND HAD WHAT APPEARED TO BE SIGNIFICANTLY LESS ACCELERATION THAN NORMAL. THIS WAS CAUSED BY THE CAR'S COMPUTER RECALIBRATING THE BATTERY. THIS RECALIBRATING STARTED HAPPENING AFTER A SOFTWARE UPDATE. IT HAPPENS EVERY FEW DAYS AND THERE IS NO WARNING. WHEN IT HAPPENS THE COMPUTER ARTIFICIALLY LOWER THE CHARGE STATE FORCING THE CAR TO GO INTO REGENERATION STATE TO FULLY CHARGE THE BATTERS. EVEN THOUGH THE BATTER IS NOT REALLY EMPTY, SINCE THE COMPUTER SET THE BATTERY LEVEL TO BE EMPTY, THE ELECTRIC MOTOR IS NO LONGER USED. THERE SHOULD BE A WARNING TONE OR SOMETHING TO INDICATE THAT THERE WILL BE A SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF POWER. I BELIEVE THAT HONDA DID THIS SOFTWARE UPDATE TO MAKE THE BATTERIES SEEM TO LAST LONGER, BUT IT'S REALLY LESS SAFE! IT'S ALSO CAUSED MY MILEAGE TO GO DOWN BY ABOUT 10% BUT I REALIZE THAT IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
2007 HONDA CIVIC EX SEDAN: UPON A TRIP (60 MILES) HOME FROM THE CLEVELAND AIRPORT 1-26-10, I SMELLED COOLANT BURNING AND A SUDDEN CLOUD OF STEAM FROM UNDER THE HOOD. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION OF THIS INCIDENT, THE DETERMINED CAUSE WAS THE ENGINE BLOCK HAD CRACKED ALLOWING COOLANT TO BE SPRAYED ONTO THE MANIFOLD CAUSING THE BURNING SMELL AND CLOUDS OF STEAM. WHILE HONDA CANNOT PROVIDE A REASONING BEHIND THIS FAILURE, IT APPEARS OR WOULD SEEM TO BE A CASTING ISSUE FOR THE 2006-07 MODELS. THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY BY 35K MILES AT THE TIME OF FAILURE AND HONDA DECLINED ALL EFFORTS TO ASSIST WITH THIS PROBLEM. I AM HEARING AND SEEING NUMEROUS ISSUES EXACTLY IDENTICAL TO MINE WELL WITHIN THE WARRANTY PERIOD FOR OTHERS AND HONDA IS CLAIMING THERE IS "NO" PROBLEM WITH THESE ENGINES. THE CAR HAS BEEN DEALER MAINTAINED AND HAS ALL HIGHWAY MILES DUE TO MY JOB. NOT SURE HOW MANY COMPLAINTS IT TAKES TO ISSUE A RECALL BUT THERE IS DEFINITELY A PROBLEM WITH THE 2007 CIVIC ENGINE CASTINGS. ON THURS. OCT. 1 I DROVE TO WORK IN MY '07' HONDA CIVIC EX 4-DR WITH 48,900 MILES(APPROX) AND I STARTED HEARING A NOISE. THE CAR KEPT RUNNING PRETTY WELL THOUGH SO I CONTINUED THE 22 MILES TO MY OFFICE. WHEN I GOT THERE I WAS SMELLING BURNING RUBBER AND IT WAS MAKING QUITE A RACKET. I CALLED ROUSH HONDA IN WESTERVILLE, OHIO AND BROUGHT IT IN THAT AFTERNOON. I HAD TO RUN ON BACK ROADS INSTEAD OF THE FREEWAY BECAUSE I WAS AFRAID THAT IT WOULDN'T MAKE IT - I PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE HAD IT TOWED. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE WATER PUMP PULLEY BROKE, RUINED THE WATER PUMP, TENSIONER AND BELT ETC. I HAVE A DRIVE TRAIN WARRANTY THROUGH 100,000 MILES BUT NOT A PART OF THE DRIVE TRAIN! I HAD AN OVERALL WARRANTY BUT I AM ABOUT 900 TO 1,000 MILES PAST. IT WILL COST $500.00 PLUS TO FIX. I GOT ON THE INTERNET AND THEN ON YOUR SITE AND I FIND A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN # 08=039 (NHTSA # 10026791) ON BOLTS COMING LOOSE ON WATER PUMP PULLEYS AND DOING DAMAGE. I EVEN ASKED THE ROUSH SERVICE MAN WHEN HE CALLED TO TELL ME WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS IF THESE DO THIS A LOT. HE SAID THAT THIS IS THE FIRST ONE THAT HE HAD EVER HEARD OF. DO YOU BELIEVE HIM? I SURE DON'T! WHAT CAN I DO? I AM GETTING SICK AND TIRED OF AUTO MAKERS BUILDING JUNK AND THEN NOT STANDING BEHIND IT. I BOUGHT CHRYSLERS FOR 30 YEARS AND GOT SICK OF THEIR GAMES AND SWITCHED TO HONDA TO GET AWAY FROM IT BUT IT LOOKS LIKE THEY PLAY THEM TOO. NOW ADMITTEDLY, NO INJURY OR PHYSICAL DAMAGE WAS CAUSED, BUT I AM SURE GLAD THAT THE PUMP DIDN'T FAIL COMPLETELY ON THE FREEWAY WHEN I WAS DRIVING TO WORK. *TR
2007 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID ENGINE/HYBRID SYSTEM OPERATION HAS BECOME ERRATIC AND UNPREDICTABLE. ADEQUATE POWER TO ACCELERATE, MERGE AND SAFELY OPERATE VEHICLE CAN SUDDENLY CUT OUT, LEAVING VEHICLE WITH UNACCEPTABLE PERFORMANCE AND CREATING SAFETY HAZARD IN NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. *TR
2007 HONDA CIVIC LX BECAME COMPLETELY DISABLED WHILE DRIVING. ON THE ROAD, THE CAR STOPPED WITHOUT PRIOR ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALER. DEALER SERVICEMAN REPORTS A BOLT WAS SEVERED POSSIBLY FACTORY ERROR. DAMAGES INCURRED WERE BROKEN TIMING CHAIN, ROCKER ARM BOLT BROKEN, BROKEN HEAD AND MAJOR LEAKAGE. SERVICEMAN REPORTS ALL PARTS REPLACED, HOWEVER VEHICLE NO LONGER WORKS AT FULL CAPACITY. ENGINE/TRANSMISSION MAKES GRINDING NOISE. ADDITIONAL NOISES FROM REAR SUSPENSION ALSO. VEHICLE RETURNED FOR SERVICE 2X'S SINCE INCIDENT WITHOUT SUCCESS. CURRENT PROBLEMS, (NOISE AND SLUGGISHNESS) OCCUR AFTER VEHICLE IS DRIVEN FOR MORE THAN 1 HOUR. CUSTOMER REQUESTED OLD PARTS AT TIME OF SERVICE, BUT WERE NOT GIVEN. SERVICEMAN STATED PARTS WERE RETURNED TO THE FACTORY FOR INSPECTION. *TR
I HAVE OWNED MY 2007 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID FOR ABOUT 21MONTHS. I STARTED TO HAVE ISSUES WITH THE IMA (INTEGRATED MOTOR ASSIST, HYBRID BATTERIES) LAST SUMMER (2008) AND CONTINUE TO HAVE ISSUES TO DATE (MAY 2009). THE IMA BATTERY THAT POWERS THE ASSIST MOTOR HAS BEEN UNPREDICTABLE AND HAS HAD DEGRADED PERFORMANCE FOR THE PAST YEAR CAUSING THE CAR TO BE UNDERPOWERED AND UNSAFE TO DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY. THE IMA SYSTEM ROUTINELY FULLY DISCHARGES (ESPECIALLY DURING THE HOT SUMMER MONTHS IN ARIZONA) AND LEAVES THE CAR ONLY TO RUN ON THE UNDERPOWERED 1.3 L GAS ENGINE. THE CAR IS VERY SLUGGISH, CAUSING SAFETY ISSUES WHEN ACCELERATION IS NEEDED IN CITY OR INTERSTATE DRIVING. MY WIFE DRIVES 3 KIDS TO SCHOOL (35 MILES ON WAY) ON A DAILY BASIS AND IS CONCERNED FOR THE KIDS AND HER SAFETY ON THE HIGHWAY. THE BATTERIES ALSO ARE LOCATED UNDER THE REAR PASSENGER SEAT. DUE TO THE EXCESSIVE HEAT THE REAR PASSENGERS (MY KIDS) ARE ALWAYS COMPLAINING THAT THE SEAT IS WARM AND THAT IS EXCESSIVELY HOT IN THE BACK SEAT SINCE THE PROBLEM FIRST WAS OBSERVED IN LAST SUMMER 2008, I HAVE TAKEN IT TO SEVERAL DIFFERENT HONDA DEALERSHIPS. THEY ALL STATE THAT THIS IS 'NORMAL' OPERATION AND UNLESS THE SERVICE LIGHT COMES ON THAT NOTHING IS WRONG. THE SERVICE LIGHT THEY ARE REFERRING TO IS THE P1433 BATTERY DEGRADED CODE THAT STATES TO REPLACE THE BATTERIES. IT SEEMS ODD THAT THEY WAIT UNTIL THE BATTERIES ARE TOTALLY FAILED AND DEPLETED BEFORE THEY WILL CHANGE THEM. I NOTICED THAT HONDA DOES HAVE A TSB OUT COVERING EXCESSIVE HEAT AND THAT IT CAN SEVERELY DAMAGE THE IMA BATTERIES. THIS STATES THAT IF THE TEMPERATURE IS ABOVE 150 DEGREES F THAT THE BATTERIES CAN BE DAMAGED OR FAIL. I KNOW THAT HEAT SOAKING THE CAR FOR 8-10 HOURS IN THE FULL SUN AT 110+ DEGREES (SHADE TEMP) CAN EASILY HEAT THE IMA BATTERIES TO VERY CLOSE TO 150 DEGREES. I AM HIGHLY CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF MY WIFE AND KIDS THAT SHE DRIVES AND OTHERS THAT MAY BE EFFECTED. *TR

I HAVE A 2007 HONDA CIVIC. I HAVE REPLACED 4 SETS OF TIRES ON THIS CAR DUE TO THE BACK TIRES WEARING FLAT. HONDA REPORTED IT WAS A REAR END PROBLEM AND REPLACED PARTS. THE CAR STILL MAKES TOO MUCH ROAD NOISE. NO TIRES WERE REPLACED BY HONDA FOR THIS PROBLEM. IN ADDITION, MY ENGINE BLOCK IS NOW CRACKED, AND IT HAPPENED WITHOUT WARNING. THE BLOCK IS BEING REPLACED BY HONDA WITH ONLY A 12,000 MILE WARRANTY OR ONE YEAR. *TR
WITHIN 60 DAYS OF PURCHASING A 2007 HONDA CIVIC FROM A DEALER I EXPERIENCED ROADSIDE DAMAGE TO MY CONDENSER WHICH WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. TWO DIFFERENT MECHANICS INFORMED ME THAT THE UNIT WAS COMPLETELY EXPOSED AND THERE WAS NO PROTECTION/GRILL TO KEEP THIS FROM HAPPENING. THEY ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THIS APPEARED TO BE A DESIGN FLAW SINCE MOST AUTOS DO NOT EXPERIENCE THIS SAME ISSUE. 2007 HONDA CIVIC EXA/C STOPPED WORKING. BOUGHT CAR 2/18/07 WITH 18 MILES ON IT. TOLD BY DEALER ROCK PROBABLY HIT CONDENSER. DEALER COULD NOT SHOW ME WHERE THE PUNCTURE AREA WAS. DEALER INDICATED WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER REPAIR. BEFORE THIS HAPPENED, MY AIR CONDITIONING WHEN TURNED ON WOULD RATTLE REALLY BAD, TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICING, THEY TIGHTENED THE DRIVE BELT, AIR CONDITIONING WAS STILL RATTLING, THEY INDICATED THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG. NOW I HAVE NO AIR. I HAVE RESEARCHED OTHER HONDA OWNERS AND THEY HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS. I HAVE PRINTED OUT MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS HAPPENING TO A/C CONDENSERS AND THE REASONS THAT THE DEALER HAS GIVEN. THIS SEEMS TO BE A DEFECT IN HONDA'S MANUFACTURING OF THE CAR THAT HAPPENS TO BE A VERY COSTLY REPAIR TO THE CONSUMER WHEN IT IS NOT THEIR FAULT. *TR
I BOUGHT A HONDA CIVIC SEDAN IN 2007 AND LESS THAN TWO MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT MY AIR CONDITIONER STOPPED WORKING. I TOOK IT INTO THE SHOP AND WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT IT THEY TOLD ME A ROCK PROBABLY HIT MY CONDENSER AND BROKE MY A/C. NORMALLY, THE ELECTRIC MOTOR FUNCTIONS AS A BRAKE WHENEVER THE VEHICLE NEEDS TO STOP; HOWEVER, THAT FUNCTION HAS BEEN FAILING. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY THE DEALER; HOWEVER, THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY MUST EXPERIENCE THE FAILURE THEMSELVES IN ORDER TO PROVIDE AN ACCURATE DIAGNOSIS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,800 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 13,800.

MY HONDA CIVIC HYBRID IS GIVING OFF UNSAFE LEVELS OF EMF'S. IT HAS CAUSED ME TO FALL ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL 3X AND HAVE HAD TO TAKE NAPS AFTER 1/2 HR OF DRIVING. MY B/P HAS BEEN OUT OF CONTROL SINCE USING THE CAR ALOT. MY DOG GOES INTO PRE-SEIZURE AFTER 5 MIN IN CAR. I HAVE TO GET RIDES WHEN I TAKE HER TO THE DR.HONDA WILL NOT ADDRESS THIS ISSUE WITHOUT DOCUMENTATION FROM MY LOCAL DEALER. MY DEALER REFUSES TO DOCUMENT. THE FIELD ENGINEER WILL NOTO LOOK AT THE CAR WITHOUT DOCUMENTS. THIS IS A VERY BIG SAFETY ISSUE WITH FATIGUE ALSO ONLY THE PRIUS. THINK OF ALL THE HYBRIDS OUT THERE WITH PEOPLE GETTING TIRED AND POSSIBLY FALLING ASLEEP. THESE CARS CAN BE SHIELDED FROM THESE VERY HIGH LEVELS OF EMF'S.
