RECALLCampaign #16V651000

AIR BAGS:FRONTAL

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015-2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD, 3500 HD, Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Sierra 2500 HD and 3500 HD, GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade and Cadillac Escalade ESV vehicles and 2014-2017 Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500, Trax, Caprice Police Pursuit Vehicle, GMC Sierra 1500, Buick Encore, and 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse, Chevrolet Spark EV and SS vehicles. In the affected vehicles, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.

Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the SDM software. Vehicles that have had a previous air bag deployment will have the SDM replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on October 13, 2016. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 16007.

AIR BAGS:FRONTAL

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse and Chevrolet Spark EV, Caprice PPV and SS vehicles, 2014-2017 Buick Encore and Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles, 2015-2016 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Tahoe, Trax, Suburban and Silverado 2500 and 3500 and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles, and 2015-2017 GMC Sierra HD 2500 and 3500 vehicles. While being previously remedied for recall 16V-651, the affected vehicles may not have received the complete software update necessary to remedy the recall condition. Without the update, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test.

The recall began on August 4, 2017. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 17287.

Owners will receive a second notice when the remedy is available. Phase I owner notification letters were mailed on May 5, 2022. Your airbags failed to deploy during a severe frontal T-bone collision at 55 MPH, even though the impact was forceful enough to push the other vehicle into a ditch. This is a critical safety failure that should have triggered the airbag system. The issue will likely require a diagnostic scan of the airbag control module and possibly replacement of the airbag sensors or the entire airbag system.

My son's 2015 GMC Sierra side impact air bags went off while he was driving. He had no impact. He thought he hit a small pot hole but after driving back on the road, it was recently paved so it was not a pot hole. He guessed it was the edge of the road from the recent paving that he hit. He heard a loud noise like a gun shot. His cabin filled up with smoke and the side impact air bags when off. When he took the truck to the GM Dealership, it gave a code for front air bag deployment due to impact. But the side air bags went off and there was no impact. The only damage to the truck is the deployed side airbags and the locked seatbelts. He has a warranty but they kicked it to GM. Warranty stated that if they fixed it, they were worried that it would happen again. We filed a claim with GM. After GM sent three different inspectors out and over 5 weeks later, they denied the claim. They have also not sent the inspection reports as requested. My son did not have this truck for the first three months he owned it because GM could not find the faulty code causing transmission issues. I am worried the air bags deployment will happen again while he is driving at a high speed and cause a serious wreck.

Attempts to get the part replaced have been met with long delays in gets the parts necessary even though the dealer tells me they show plenty in their warehouse in another state. I first called on 3/29/23 and was told 1-8 weeks. I called again on 6/21/23 and was told they submitted the order again on 5/11/23 and would do so again today. I tried a second dealer in St. Louis and was told the same thing about expecting months of delays on these parts. This recall is from 2022 and if parts are available, why am I not able to get the repairs completed?

She returned my call on 2/15/2022 and said she would start buy back and that another department handles the buy back, but they have to go through her and that she would call on 2/17/2022 to let me know what was going on with the buy back. She did not call back.Have called several times and left messages since the 17th. Finally got to talk with her on 2/23/2022 for 5 minutes and was told that buy back had to be approved first and was put on hold for 1 hour while she looked up the case on her computer. I am not driving this vehicle.since it states that roof rail can explode while sitting idle. I want a full refund and the dealer to pick up the vehicle.

My GMC Sierra has the RRAB recall. Vin has already been provided. I asked GMC in a chat (all recorded) if the truck is safe to drive. I explained that I am a disabled veteran. I have numerous issues but one has to do with not having full use of my right hand. I drive with my left and support with my right. I asked them if they though I could safely drive the vehicle knowing that information and they refused to answer uttering that parts are not available and be reassured that when they become available they will call. That truck is my only source of transportation. I need that vehicle to get me to chemotherapy sessions, yes I have cancer too!!! I need to know if the vehicle is safe to drive and if not, what is GMC going to do to fix this issue. I'm sure parts must be available but I doubt that disabled veterans or Joe public are not he priority list. I just want it fixed. I don't want song and dances, I've heard enough of that in the military and working for the military. I just need it fixed. Is your agency going to step up to the plate and tell them that these vehicles are not safe to drive? I bought a GMC for its reliability and their follow through, GMC clearly doesn't have my 6. Will the NHTSA have my 6 or is this just another shafting of a veteran?
