Your engine is making a ticking noise (known as a "Hemi tick") caused by valve lifters not receiving enough oil, which damages the camshaft and requires expensive replacement. You believe Chrysler is aware of this ongoing issue but hasn't recalled or fixed it, instead dismissing it as normal for Hemi engines. Getting the lifters and camshaft replaced would address the root cause of the noise.

WHILE DRIVING HOME (CITY STREETS - 30-40 MPH), I NOTICED THAT THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE IN MY '09 CHARGER RT BEGAN TO CLIMB. I HAD TO STOP A FEW BLOCKS FROM HOME TO LET IT COOL DOWN. A COUPLE OF HOURS LATER I ADDED COOLANT & DROVE THE LAST 0.3 MILES. AT FIRST I THOUGHT A RADIATOR HOSE HAD FAILED, BUT I FOUND THAT THE PLASTIC BLADES ON ONE OF THE TWIN ELECTRIC COOLING FANS CAME APART & DESTROYED THE RADIATOR. A WEB SEARCH SHOWED THAT CHRYSLER ISSUED "CUSTOMER SATISFACTION NOTIFICATION L08 - ENGINE COOLING FANS " IN 2011 FOR THE 2006-08 MODEL YEARS DESCRIBING THE EXACT PROBLEM I EXPERIENCED. I CALLED CHRYSLER & OPENED CASE # 59502947. AFTER A FEW DAYS OF PHONE CALLS I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR WASN'T PART OF THAT RECALL & FCA WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH REPAIRS OR EVEN SUPPLY THE PARTS. A LOCAL DODGE DEALER STATED THAT THE REPLACEMENT FAN KIT (CBHZL080AA - COOLING FAN PACKAGE) COST DEALERS ABOUT $10, BUT WAS NOT FOR SALE TO CUSTOMERS; I HAD TO BY TWO FANS INDIVIDUALLY FOR A TOTAL OF ABOUT $70. IN ADDITION, I HAD TO BUY A RADIATOR, THERMOSTAT, HOSES, CLAMPS, AND A RADIATOR CAP WHICH ADDED UP TO HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS. I SPENT THE WEEKEND GATHERING PATS & THEN REPAIRING THE VEHICLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOW YARD AND THEN TOWED TO LEGACY DODGE OF NATCHITOCHES (1798 HIGHWAY 3175 N BYP, NATCHITOCHES, LA 71457, (318) 238-3383) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A NEW TIMING CHAIN WAS NEEDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000. THE VIN WAS INVALID.

TIMING CHAIN BROKE CAUSING ADDITIONAL ENGINE DAMAGE. HAD TIMING CHAIN REPLACED WHEN BROKE AT 59K MILES.. EVER SINCE REPAIRED LOTS OF MISFIRES ON ODD CYL. NOW RUNNING SO BAD HAD IT LOOKED AT AND SAID NOW CAM SHAFT AND LIFTERS NEED REPLACED. ALTHOUGH TIME CHAIN STILL INTACT, I BELIEVE THIS DAMAGE WAS FROM THE PREVIOUS REPAIR OF TIME CHAIN THAT SENT OUT PIECES INTO ENGINE CAUSING MORE PROBLEMS DOWN THE ROAD. DODGE WON'T COVER WITH TIME CHAIN RECALL. ONLY FIX TIME CHAIN NOT ALL THE DAMAGE THAT THE CHAIN BREAKING SENDING METAL PIECES INTO ENGINE PROBLEMS DOWN ROAD.

THERE WAS NO POLICE REPORT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED FROM THE SCENE TO THE CONTACT'S HOME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 166,584.
THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE 2.7 TIMING CHAIN AND ENGINE. CHRYSLER HAD ISSUES WITH THIS PROBLEM AND HAD FILED FOR BANKRUPTCY. THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION REGARDING THIS ISSUE. HOWEVER, CHRYSLER CORPORATION STILL EXISTS AND THE CUSTOMERS WITH THE PROBLEM STILL HAVE THE SAME ENGINE ISSUES. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THE 2.7 ENGINE.
THE ENGINE IS MAKING NOISE. MY MECHANIC SAID THE TIMING CHAIN IS BAD. THE OIL PRESSURE IS LOW.
THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SHOP FOR A COOLANT LEAK. IN THE COURSE OF THE REPAIRS, SIGNIFICANT ENGINE SLUDGE WAS DISCOVERED IN THE ENGINE. ONCE THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED, THE ENGINE RAN FOR APPROXIMATELY 30 MIN AFTER REPAIRS COMPLETED BEFORE BEING UNABLE TO START AND GOING BACK TO THE SHOP. THEY NOW SAY THAT A COMPLETE ENGINE OVERHAUL IS NEEDED.
GOT A 2009 DODGE CHARGER WITH 150.000 MILES WHILE NORMAL DRIVING ON HIGHWAY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON I STOPPED RIGHT AWAY THERMOSTAT CAP BLEW OFF TOOK IT TO DEALER AFTER I REPLACED THE CAP BECAUSE IT WAS RUNNING HOTTER THAN NORMAL THEY TOLD ME MIGHT BE A SENSOR NEXT DAY THEY CALLED CAR WAS SMOKING AND NEEDED NEW MOTOR I DID CHECK IT BEFORE I TOOK IT AND IT WASN'T SMOKING THEY TOOK TWO WEEKS TO REPLACE ENGINE NOW CALLED ME NOT READY NEEDS KNOCK SENSOR THE LONGER THEY HAVE IT THE MORE BROKEN THINGS THEY FIND IF IT'S NOT ONE THING IT'S ANOTHER I AM GOING TO JUST GO GET IT BEFORE THEY FLATTEN MY TIRES AND SAY I NEED NEW ONES ??

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 125,000.

WHILE DRIVING THE CAR AT 40 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY THE FAN BLADES BROKE OFF AND WENT THROUGH THE RADIATOR. WITHIN THE LAST MONTH THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DIFFICULT TO START, THEN WHILE DRIVING IT SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING, COMPLETELY STOPS RUNNING. THEN IT IS HARD TO STEER AND HAS NO BRAKES. THIS IS FRIGHTENING AND HAPPENS WITHOUT WARNING. THE SERVICE DEPT AT THE DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED AND SCANNED FOR CODES AND TESTED FUEL PRESSURE AND FOUND PRESSURE WAS GOOD AND FOUND NO CODES. THEY INSTALLED A NEW BATTERY AND CLEANED THE THROTTLE. THE VEHICLE STARTED AND RAN WELL FOR ONE WEEK, USING IT FOR SHORT TRIPS TO THE STORE. HOWEVER, USING IT TO GO 20 MILES AWAY, THE ABOVE PROBLEM SHOWED UP AGAIN. AT THE TOP OF A HILL THE CAR ENGINE STOPPED, GOING 30 MPH GOING DOWN THE HILL. NO BRAKES, NO STEERING, AND LUCKILY NO ACCIDENT!!! THIS IF VERY FRIGHTENING!!! THIS VEHICLE IS GOING BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP ON WED, MAR. 11, 2015. THIS 2009 VEHICLE, ACCORDING TO YOUR WEBSITE, HAS HAD THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM SINCE 2010. THIS IS HAZARDOUS AND SHOULD BE ELIGIBLE FOR RECALL. *TR
I BOUGHT MY CAR USED APPROXIMATELY 3 1/2 YEARS AGO. IT WAS DRIVING FINE UP UNTIL ABOUT 6 / 7 MONTHS AGO WHEN IT STARTED STALLING ON ME WHILE DRIVING. TWO WEEKS AGO I PURCHASED A 2009 DODGE CHARGER. ON TUESDAY OCTOBER 21, 2014, I ATTEMPTED TO START MY VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START. ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL I COULD SEE A RED LIGHT BLINK INDICATING THE THEFT SYSTEM WAS ACTIVATED, THE MILEAGE DISPLAYED, AND THE OPEN DOORS INDICATOR WAS ACTIVATED. MY REMOTE ALLOWED ME TO LOCK AND UNLOCK MY DOORS AND OPEN MY TRUNK. I ATTEMPTED TO JUMP START THE BATTERY WHICH WORKED PERFECTLY. I TOOK ADDITIONAL STEPS TO INSURE THE PROBLEM WAS NOT THE BATTERY BY HAVING IT TESTED. THE RESULT WAS 100%. UPON RESEARCHING THE SYMPTOMS ONLINE, I FOUND THERE IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE WIN MODULE IN MY VEHICLE. I FOUND MORE THAN 100 COMPLAINTS AND YOUTUBE VIDEOS BY OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM YET NO RECALL HAS BEEN CREATED. WHEN WILL CHRYSLER LLC BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS KNOWN AND WELL DOCUMENTED PROBLEM WITH 2009 DODGE CHARGERS AND GIVE THEM SOME RELIEF? IT SHOULD ALSO BE NOTED, A RECALL WAS MADE FOR 2008 DODGE CHARGERS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. I'D LIKE TO KNOW WHAT STEPS I NEED TO TAKE FOR A RECALL TO BE DONE. MY VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY SITTING IDLE. THE DEALER REFUSES TO HONOR THE RECALLS ON THE ENGINE LIGHT AND TIRE LIGHT ON, AND IS CLAIMING THAT IT DOES NOT AFFECT MY VEHICLE. I JUST BROUGHT THIS CAR FROM THEM AND NOW I GETTING NO WHERE WITH THIS PEOPLE. I PAID 95.00 DOLLARS FOR NOTHING AND THE LIGHTS STILL ON AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE REASON THEY WONT REFUND MY MONEY BACK IS BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO PAID THE MECHANIC, I BELIEVE THAT SOLD ME A LEMON. THIS IS A DODGE CHARGER IN THE AUSTIN INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT'S POLICE FORCE FLEET. AFTER PERFORMING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND UPON START UP, THE AUTO BEGAN TO HAVE A HARD ENGINE KNOCK. AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION WE FOUND THAT A VALVE SEAT HAD FAILED AND ENTERED THE PISTON CYLINDER CAUSING A CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE. THE ENGINE IS A 5.7 HEMI. THIS IS THE SECOND DODGE 5.7 HEMI TO HAVE THIS TYPE OF ENGINE FAILURE IN LESS THEN A YEAR, AND AT ABOUT THE SAME ENGINE MILEAGE. THESE CARS ARE PURSUIT VEHICLES, AND IF THIS FAILURE HAD BEEN AT A HIGHER SPEED SERIOUS INJURE, OR DEATH COULD HAVE OCCURRED. *TR

I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO JEEP /CHRYSLER DODGE DEALERSHIP IN ONTARIO CALIFORNIA WHERE THEY TOLD ME THE SAME DIAGNOSIS EXCEPT IT WOULD COST ANY WHERE FROM $2,000.00- $4500.00 FOR THE REPAIR. THE DEALER CHARGED A FEE OF $384.00 JUST TO COME UP WITH THE EXACT SAME DIAGNOSIS THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC PREVIOUSLY TOLD ME FOR A FEE OF $84.00. I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLERS CORPORATE OFFICE 12/07/2011 AND EXPECT A CALL BACK WITHIN 24 HOURS. TO ADD INSULT TO INJURY I HAD THE DEALER ATTEMPT TO INCLUDE THE REPAIR OF A TIMING BELT AND TENSIONER FOR $400 THAT I DID NOT EVEN NEED. FORTUNATELY I HAD INSPECTED THE BELT MYSELF AND WAS TOLD BY THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC THAT THE BELT AND TENSIONER ARE IN PERFECT WORKING ORDER. I ADDRESSED THIS WITH THE SERVICE ADVISOR AND HE TOLD ME I MIGHT AS WELL GET IT DONE BECAUSE IT IS DUE AT 100K MILES. I AM DISGUSTED THAT THE DEALER WOULD TRY TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF A CUSTOMER IN NEED OF HELP. THIS UNETHICAL ATTEMPT TO GET MORE MONEY FROM ME MADE ME QUESTION WHAT OTHER FRAUDULENT REPAIRS ARE ON MY ESTIMATE. I BELIEVE DODGE SHOULD STAND BY THEIR PRODUCT AND DO THE RIGHT THING. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 DODGE CHARGER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT WHITE SMOKE EMITTED FROM THE UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE SUDDENLY INCREASED TO HOT. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE ENGINE CYLINDERS WERE REPLACED DUE TO A DEFECTIVE HEAD GASKET. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED THE IDENTICAL FAILURE ON THE DAY IT WAS REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR THE SECOND TIME WHERE THE HEAD GASKET WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED FOR THE THIRD TIME AND THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY BEING REPAIRED BY A DIFFERENT INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000.

I PURCHASED A 2009 DODGE CHARGER IN 4/11. I JUST PERFORMED THE FIRST OIL CHANGE FOR ME ON 8/28/11. I NOTICED WHILE REMOVING THE OIL PLUG, THAT IT WAS VERY TIGHT AND HARD TO LOOSEN. AFTER REMOVING THE PLUG AND OIL, I INSTALLED THE PLUG BACK INTO THE OIL PAN AND IT WOULD NOT TIGHTEN ALL THE WAY. I REALIZED THERE WAS A LOT OF ALUMINUM DEBRIS ON THE SEAL OF THE PLUG WHICH WOULD BE FROM WHEN SOMEONE CROSS THREADS AND STRIPS THE THREADS OF THE OIL DRAIN PLUG HOLE. THE LAST ENTITY TO DO AN OIL CHANGE ON THIS VEHICLE WAS THE DEALER I PURCHASED THIS CAR FROM. WHEN CONFRONTED ABOUT THIS, THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALER TOLD ME IT WAS "COMMON" FOR THESE DRAIN PLUGS TO STRIP OUT AFTER A FEW OIL CHANGES. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AS I SHOULD NOT BE ALREADY HAVING TO REPLACE THE OIL PAN ON A VEHICLE WITH 52000 MILES ON IT AND A CLEAR VIOLATION OF SAFETY FOR THE ENVIRONMENT. WEAKLY BUILT OIL PANS CAN BE EASILY STRIPPED AND END OF LEAKING OIL OUT ONTO THE GROUND WHICH IS UNACCEPTABLE AND HAZARDOUS TO THE ENVIRONMENT. *TR
MY 2009 DODGE CHARGER AND MANY OTHERS I KNOW ABOUT WILL STALL FOR NO REASON AT ANY SPEED. IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHICH RESULTS IN LOSS OF ALL POWER, STEERING, BRAKES ETC. HAVE TAKEN TO DEALER BUT SINCE NO COMPUTER CODES WERE THROWN, UNABLE TO FIND PROBLEM, HELP!!!! *TR
