ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:HARD PARTS INTERNAL/MECHANICAL

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles equipped with a 6.2L V8 gas engine. The connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine components may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure.

Fix: Dealers will inspect the engine, and as necessary, repair or replace the engine. For vehicles that pass inspection, dealers will add higher viscosity oil, install 6 oil fill cap, replace the oil filter, and update the owner's manual. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 18, 2025. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-333-4223, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N252494000.

Your truck suddenly started jerking and shuddering while driving at 55 mph, then stalled completely with an abnormal grinding sound from the engine. No warning lights appeared before the failure. The dealer determined your engine needed to be replaced, and while you found a related recall (Campaign 25V274000), your vehicle's VIN wasn't included in it. The engine was replaced at 13,222 miles.

Your truck shut off suddenly while you were driving in traffic, and you had to steer it off the road safely. The dealership found a P0016 code (camshaft/crankshaft timing issue) along with several other fault codes, even though your truck had passed GM's diagnostic test just a month before. Your truck now needs a complete engine replacement to fix the problem.

Your truck's engine suddenly stopped while you were driving, leaving you stranded on the road with no warning signs beforehand. The dashboard displayed a "restart the engine" message, but the engine wouldn't restart. The dealership confirmed the engine had seized due to an unknown failure, and they replaced it under your powertrain warranty.

NHTSA #: 11726790

Your engine experienced a failure where a valve spring broke in cylinder 7, causing the exhaust valve to stick open and creating a severe misfire. You lost cruise control and stability control, and your engine stalled while driving on the interstate. The dealer replaced the faulty valve spring and valve spring seal, but the cylinder 7 misfire persisted even after testing the spark plugs, fuel injectors, and compression—suggesting there may be additional engine damage beyond just the spring. The repair may require further engine diagnostics, possible cylinder head replacement, or complete engine rebuilding depending on what caused the continuing misfire.

Your truck's engine was replaced under a recall for a complete failure, but the replacement engine appears to have the same defect as the original. When you returned for service, GM refused to repair or replace the engine again unless it fails completely. This means you're being asked to keep driving with a known defective engine until it fails again.

Your truck's engine failed just one day after a dealer performed a recall-related inspection and oil service in November 2025. The engine had been consuming oil abnormally since May 2025, and despite dealer assurances that this was normal and installing higher-viscosity oil, the engine developed a misfire in cylinder #3 and ultimately required complete replacement due to bearing and crankshaft damage. The recall fix does not appear to have resolved the underlying oil consumption issue that led to engine failure.

Your engine locked up and stopped working, leaving the vehicle unable to move forward or backward. The engine had to be completely replaced. This happened even though a recall service involving an engine oil test and thicker oil installation had been performed 6,000 miles earlier. The fix involved replacing the entire engine.

Your truck's engine shut off completely while driving on the highway at 65-75 mph with no warning, forcing you to coast to the side of the road. The dealership diagnosed a camshaft problem using their diagnostic computer, and you had noticed a low oil pressure warning when you tried to restart it. The issue likely requires camshaft replacement or engine repair to restore normal operation.

Your 2024 Silverado's 6.2L engine stopped running while you were driving at 35 mph, even though it had recently passed a recall inspection and had its oil changed to 0W-40 per recall requirements. The service center diagnosed a complete engine failure that requires a full engine replacement, which will take a month or longer to complete.

Your check engine light came on the day after an oil change, with codes indicating a variable valve timing (VVT) problem. The dealership replaced your camshaft, but the same check engine light and codes returned immediately after pickup. There's a concern that metal debris in the oil could cause power loss while driving at highway speeds.

Your engine is burning through oil much faster than normal, and you're hearing a ticking noise coming from the engine. The dealer has asked you to bring the truck back every 500 miles over the next 2,000 miles so they can determine if there's a defect, but you'd prefer they keep it and diagnose the problem all at once rather than requiring four separate trips. The issue likely requires internal engine inspection or possible engine component replacement to address the oil consumption and noise.

Vehicle: 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country Engine: 6.2L L87 V8 Recall: N252494001 – L87 Engine Loss of Propulsion I am submitting this complaint to report a serious safety defect involving my 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country related to NHTSA Safety Recall N252494001 (L87 Engine – Loss of Propulsion). My vehicle experienced a sudden engine failure consistent with the conditions described in the recall, resulting in loss of propulsion. Due to this failure, General Motors authorized a full engine replacement at an authorized GMC dealership. After the engine replacement was completed, the replacement engine also failed in the same manner as the original engine, again resulting in loss of propulsion. This second failure occurred despite the vehicle being repaired according to General Motors’ recall procedures and specifications. Loss of propulsion creates a significant safety risk, especially while driving at highway speeds or in traffic, as it can lead to sudden power loss without warning and increases the risk of a crash. Despite the replacement engine failing in the same way as the original recalled engine, General Motors is now refusing to replace the second failed engine or provide a permanent remedy. As a result, my vehicle remains unsafe to operate and unresolved under the existing safety recall. I am concerned that the recall remedy is inadequate and that replacement engines may also contain the same defect, creating an ongoing safety hazard. I am requesting that NHTSA review this matter to determine whether the recall repair is effective and whether additional corrective action is necessary to protect vehicle owners.

Regarding Recall Repair on My Truck To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to formally express my frustration and concern regarding the recent service performed on my truck, which I purchased pre-owned from Tropical Chevrolet with only 4,700 miles. 9 months after my purchase, the vehicle received a manufacturer recall involving the motor, requiring a full engine replacement. I brought the truck to Bomnin Chevrolet West Kendall for the recall repair, expecting that it would be handled correctly and at no cost to me, especially since the truck was running perfectly before the recall work. After the motor was replaced, I was informed that the Air intake manifold currently on the truck is “not original.” This Air intake manifold was already installed when I bought the truck from Tropical Chevrolet, and I was never informed of any aftermarket or non-original parts at the time of purchase. Now, after Bomnin Chevrolet completed the recall repair, the truck has a check-engine light, and I am being told I must pay approximately $900 to change it for original air intake manifold to remove the check engine warning light. I think the mecanic took out the program.from the computer and Now they want me to pay. This is unacceptable for the following reasons: 1. The truck had no check engine warning lights and was running properly before the recall repair. 2. The Air intake manifold was already on the truck when I purchased it from Tropical Chevrolet. 3. I never approved or installed any non-original parts. 4. Bomnin Chevrolet removed and reinstalled the parts during the recall repair. 5. I should not be held financially responsible for problems created during the recall repair process. I am requesting that this matter be reviewed and resolved immediately by Bomnin Chevrolet West Kendall. The truck should be returned to me in the same conditions I gave it to them and the recall fix.Thank You Regards, Rafael Lafee

I have a 2024 Silverado 1500 Z71. I purchased new, within the first month I started experiencing issues related to the fuel. Stalling, dying, missing at idle and failing to start. I’ve reported it to the dealerships, with the same response unable to duplicate. Sept 22, 2025 I was driving alone rounding a curve in the road when my vehicle lost complete power causing me to loose control crashing into trees. I was unharmed physically, but mentally this hurt. To know this all could have been avoided had Chevy customer service or the dealerships listen and looked at the dtc that were clearly shown. P3187 fuel pump pressure performance low pressure. Stated failed since last cleared. Dealership did not acknowledge or discuss with me this dtc. Instead they gave me a multi point inspection stating unable to duplicate. There negligence caused me to wreck

There is a safety recall on my truck and dealer wont take it in to address the issue. I have been trying for months and they say that they are waiting for guidance from GM. We don't feel safe driving the truck. Asked for GM to buy it back and they denied, told me to find another GM service center. I tried another and they said the same thing. I'm running in circles and shouldn't be forced to drive an unsafe truck that is ~1 year old.

GM is not handle this recall in a timely manner. They are refusing to inspect vehicle to see of there are any defects. This is concerning, as based on the recall notice, the engine may fail at anytime. This could cause a crash or leave me or my wife stranded on some road. My dealer would do the inspection but to do the inspection but they said they are not allowed until I have gotten "permission" from GM. This is a safety concern for me and my family and GM is not handling this appropriately. An immediate inspection should be done ensuring if the vehicle is safe to drive.

Engine was making noise and ultimately stopped responding when I would push the gas, leaving me stranded on the side of the road. Luckily, I was able to get the vehicle off the road in time to not cause an accident. The vehicle could have stalled and seized up in the middle of the highway. This problem has been confirmed by the dealer in the attached work order invoices. It has not been inspected by anyone other than the Mountain Chevrolet dealership, to my knowledge. The dealership has the vehicle running again, but is not able to confirm if the 'new' engine in my vehicle is the one address the recall issue, reference number N252494000. Additionally, this vehicle broke down again two months later for a related issue per the additional service invoice attached. For all of these, GM has not been willing to pay for the full value of the rentals for each service, totaling over 60 days without my vehicle. I've requested this through the GM Customer Care to no avail. I would also like to receive confirmation that the 'repaired' engine in my vehicle resolves this open recall concern. I've been stranded on the side of the road twice now with this newer vehicle and would love some assurance from them. At a minimum I want GM to pay for the full value of the rental cars. For the record, I also requested GM buy-back the vehicle which they have rejected my request. Any help you can provide is appreciated. Thank you.

6.2 L engine around 7500 miles engine light came on, it was slow to startup, would shutter during idel. Driving home on the highway the truck turned off cruise control and front impact warning then it came back on about 5 miles down the road. At the same time the truck was shaking and shuttering. Took it into the shop the next day and so far is having at least one maybe 2 cylinders misfiring. Also, since I bought it the axle locks keep saying to service them, take the truck to the dealership and they can't find anything wrong with them. The only way to get the indicator to stop dinging incessantly is to active the axle locks and deactivate them and that will make it stop dinging for about a week.

Vehicle only has 7500 miles and was driven daily without any mistreatment. The dealer confirmed that the vehicle had catastrophic damage. It had metal shavings inside the oil system. Couldn’t even shift to neutral to get it on the tow truck. It had to be dragged up the ramp. The the clicking and knocking to engine failure happened in one day. Now my truck is sitting in Chevrolet waiting on an engine which is on back order. So I’ll be without a truck that I’m making 1800/mo payments on (took 36 month loan) and can’t even reduce my insurance to comprehensive due to being at a maintenance lot. Bottom line, I have a new undriveable truck with no date available as to when I’ll even get it back. It’s been suggested one to two months…

My 2024 Chevy Silverado Trailboss with the 6.2 engine has had engine tick since it had about 1200 miles on it, I brought it into the dealer where I purchased it and they determined nothing was wrong with it, now today, the noise is way worse, so I called local dealership to my area, with this engine recall on the 6.2’s, the service guy I spoke with said GM has not come up with a remedy yet so there is nothing they can do about it. I asked them what I’m supposed to do, he said keep driving it until it locks up, I asked him if he was serious and he said yes, drive it until it locks up then have it towed to dealership, if they have a loaner I might get one, I said it’s a safety issue if it locks up on the highway or in traffic, he said yep, drive it until it locks up! GM has had 2 buy back programs on this and they still do not have a fix?

On April 25, 2025, I was driving on the expressway to work when my 2024 Chevy Silverado 6.2 liter suddenly lost all power. I had to coast from the 3rd lane to the off ramp to get out of other vehicles. My truck was towed to Garber Chererolet in Webster NY, at an expense to me. On April 28, 2025, I was informed by the service manager at Gar er Chevrolet that my Chevy Silverado, 6.2 liter motor blew up and needed a new motor. Later on during the course of that day on April 28, 2025, I learned of, on a national media platform, that General Motors initiated a recall for the 6.2 liter motors that were defective not only for Chevrolet products but all GM products with the 6.2 liter motor in them. Unfortunately I never received a recall notice by the Chevy app, email, USPS Mail or any other means of communication. On Tuesday April 29, 2025, I initiated a claim with General Motors Customer Service Care. This is very very bad, knowingly that there were issues for years with the 6.2 liter motor. I've driven Chevrolet my whole entire adult life because I believe in the product. However, I am going to reconsider my buying options immediately due to the incompetence and negligence of General Motors. This is a serious offense, not only against me but for the whole general population that drive these vehicles. GM pute and all in a very serious situation that could have led to serious physical injury or death itself! Now General Motors tells me that I have to wait between 2 and 3 months for a new 6.2 liter motor because it's on back order. This is not acceptable in no way for myself or anyone else. I will be joining the class action lawsuit against General Motors and all the incompetent executives who knowingly and egregiously hid this from the general public, their customers, including myself. I am beyond angry and have zero confidence in GM going forward.

It happened to me twice but the first time I was driving on the highway with my family and without warning my engine cut off and I had a message that said “press start button to restart”. I coasted to the shoulder, put the truck in park, and was able to restart. I took it to my dealership where they ran codes and nothing wrong with the engine showed. About 2 weeks later I was taking my kids to daycare and had just exited the highway when my engine cut out again. I pulled up to the 4 way stop sign intersection and tried to restart the truck but it was completely dead and I was stranded in the middle of the intersection with my 3 and 1 year old. The truck threw an engine light this time. I tried to get the truck out of the intersection but the gear was stuck in park and wouldn’t shift to neutral. I then had the truck towed to my dealership where it has been since.

Dear National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, I am writing to formally report a serious safety issue with my 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 equipped with the 6.2-liter engine. At the time of the incident, my truck had only 17,000 miles on it and had received the two necessary oil changes as recommended. On Thursday, [XXX] while driving northbound on [XXX] in Houston, Texas, my truck unexpectedly lost power while in motion. Fortunately, I was in one of the right lanes and was able to push it to the side, but not before nearly being struck by another vehicle. Several cars had to swerve to avoid my disabled truck, and I truly believe that I could have been seriously injured or worse due to this mechanical failure. After having my truck towed to the dealership, I was informed that the engine had completely locked up and needed a full replacement. However, despite my immediate action to get the issue resolved, I have now been without a vehicle since [XXX], and as of today, March 10, 2025, there is still no replacement engine available. I have been told that the 6.2-liter engines are on backorder for 5 to 6 months because this issue is happening to so many vehicles. This raises serious concerns: If so many of these engines are failing, why has there been no recall issued? How is it acceptable for GMC to sell vehicles with a known defect that can lead to life-threatening situations on the road? Why am I still paying a $1,300 monthly car note for a vehicle I have not been able to drive in over three months? This is not just a case of vehicle reliability; this is a severe safety hazard. My truck failed suddenly in moving traffic, and based on the widespread engine failures, it appears that this could happen to many other drivers as well, potentially leading to catastrophic accidents. I urge the NHTSA to investigate these engine failures immediately and take appropriate action, including issuing a recall if warranted. I would appreciate an update on INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

After having the code ran the engine is misfiring and has a rough idle. This is an L87 6.2L motor on a 2024 Silverado ZR2. After researching this problem it is way more frequent than the total of 39 official reports with a similar truck owned by an acquaintance having the same issue at the same mileage. Engine sound has changed, the truck shudders, and may seize up at any moment. The truck had 1 oil change at 5500 miles and was due for its second oil change at 11500 but will more than likely need an engine replacement.

Well they get back to me and said that the lifters had failed. They put new ones in and these too failed. Then about 2 weeks later they got back to me saying they were waiting on putting a new motor in for the truck. This is the 6.2L that is known for lifter failure. After about 2 more weeks they reached back out and had said that the truck was almost done. When I got the call to come get it, I asked when I got there what do I do when this keeps happening in the future of me owning the truck. The service guy shrugged his shoulders and said “buy and extended warranty.” He then proceeded to tell me to buy a chip that will delete the DFM in the truck but will void my factory warranty. I’m very frustrated and worried for myself in the future with this truck. I’ve already spent so much buying the truck and in a few years when my warranty expires and this happens again that will be out of my pocket.

Towing Difficulties & Roadside Assistance Failure: GM Roadside Assistance said no contracted towing companies had the equipment to tow my truck because it would not shift into neutral without the engine running. I had to find and pay for a tow truck myself, with no guarantee of reimbursement. Dealer Response & Repair Delays: My truck has been at the dealership for days, but they have not started repairs due to technician shortages and a backlog of work. Loaner Car & Additional Hardships: Per the GM warranty, I received a loaner car but must return it every 500 miles. Since I commute 160 miles per day, I must frequently exchange it, causing major inconvenience. Safety Concerns & Requested Action: This sudden engine failure on the highway was a significant safety risk. The 6.2L engine suffered lifter failure while the vehicle was in motion on the highway. This was after 5 months of ownership and only 2,800 miles on a new 2024 Silverado. The vehicle months prior to the failure emitted a chirping sound like a loose fan belt. Dealer stated it was valve noise. It got louder prior to failure. The dealer repaired the engine and replaced all 8 cylinder lifters. Now the same noise is back.

While towing a travel trailer from Texas to New Mexico I began to receive DEF 298 miles range remaining after about 3 hours of driving. About 30 minutes after range warning I got another warning that now the tank fluid is low and needs to be refilled. I stopped at the next gas station to fill the DEF tank with fluid but it only took about 1.5 gallons to top it off. I believe it holds 7.7 gallons. Back on the road the DEF level did not reset and it gave me a warning that in 500 miles I would be speed limited to 65 MPH. While this warning is displayed it is not possible to view tire pressure, transmission temperature or any other vital information about the vehicle. The countdown continued and when I reached my destination I had 298 miles remaining. I topped the DEF tank off once again and it took 1.5 gallons again. This only brought the level back to "low add fluid'. After 2 days of driving without the trailer the DEF level returned to full. When I began the return trip with a full DEF tank I made it about an hour before I received the 300 mile range warning. I refilled it at every fuel stop with about 1 gallon. It remained at the 300 mile range warning throughout the trip and after. My issue with this system is that it could render the vehicle undrivable in the middle of nowhere hundreds of miles away from a Chevrolet Service Center. The DEF system especially when it is verified that the tank has fluid and is actually using it normally should be able to be bypassed to make it to a repair center. I forgot to mention that this is a new vehicle 4 months old with about 4000 miles on it. It has been in the Chevrolet Service for 3 weeks and has not even been looked at.

Bought my truck new in March, after just 1 week i took my truck in after i noticed a loud rattling sound. Dealership replaced the rear section of the exhaust. After just a few days the noise came back. Now GM wont do anything about it. Truck has 11k miles on it now and the noise continues to get louder. Truck is available to be inspected. I dont feel the truck is dependable. Dealership has heard the sound again but wont do anything because GM wont pay for another exhaust system. No warning lights.
