2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Engine Problems

I own a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado (8‑speed, ~81,000 miles). The engine has been audibly ticking, and the dealership confirmed hearing it during diagnosis. This aligns with known AFM lifter collapse issues in the L86 Gen V V8, a design failure rather than simple wear.

In May 2023, my 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with the 6.2L V8 engine experienced a catastrophic engine failure at 82,986 miles. The failure involved the camshaft, lifters, oil pump, and other internal components. I paid $7,319.63 out of pocket to have the engine disassembled and repaired by a certified mechanic.

This 2108 vehicle had 56174 miles on it in October 2023 when the starter went bad, then with 56382 miles on it in November 2023 the lifter failed and the engine had to be replaced and then with on 56838 miles on it in Dec 2023 the engine light came on and the dealership replaced the canister and solenoid. All in a 3 month time. Chevy says it happens.

The engine/ transmission has been rebuilt 3 times now and still having issues. The RPM goes up out of nowhere. Something is wrong with the truck.

An independent service center confirmed that the water pump failed and fell apart. This water pump is a 4-groove pulley (part number 12685259) specific to my vehicle. Most other Silverados have a 6-groove pulley system.

Truck suddenly started slowing down and smoke came from the tailpipe. No warning issued before the failure. Transmission replaced in January of this year also.

My engine cooling lines are leaking and that can potentially cause a very bad problem to my engine itself imagine I'm driving and they pop off causing me to lose all my oil and then my engine can drown and sudden stop while I'm on the highway I was first aware of the problem when my veichle had to be taken in because the transmission was failing at around 55000 miles the dealership told me about this problem which said did not need to be addressed since it's a small leak on the lines but once I got down under my truck and took of the undercover it's more than a small leak now I'm facing having to spend money on a veichle that should not be giving me problems yet at the miles it's at I'm trying to get a hold of my extended warranty to see if it's covered because chevrolet said it's not there problem anymore yet I'm not the only one with this exact problem upon investigating the 2019 had a recall for this exact problem the engine cooling lines and I had notice I had to do more oil changes way faster but never thought it was that

The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was referred to the dealer, but no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 51,145.

During the mornings when first starting my truck, I get a stutter or hesitation to the engine when accelerating out of my driveway. This happens just about every morning. I have determined that the truck has to be off for about 10+ hours.

Truck was brought in for routine maintenance they noticed At the dealership a radiator leak. I was told this is not covered under warranty And I have no lights on

Bulletin no pi1513f describes an issue with chevy silverados (amongst other models) and the radiators leaking due to over cycling of the thermostat. I have a 2018 that is barely 2 years old, and a leaking radiator! Gm is doing nothing to own up to this issue, and they are expecting me to pay the entirety for a replacement, and I don't even have confidence it won't happen again.

Its a brand new pickup track when I got it after one year a issue came up with caramel looks like leaking under the truck, radiator coolant got mix with engine oil. No warning light , engine might overheat or engine might lockup. The dealer replaced the radiator and just flush the line.

Starter is bad, drags when cold or its drawn the battery down to where it won't start. Jumped it once, the dealership replaced the battery but that 650 cold cranking amp is not big enough for the starter. We need to go to a 1000 cold cranking amp plus a 200 amp alternator.
