2018 Chevrolet Malibu Transmission Problems

ENGINE POWER REDUCED light keeps coming on while driving and the car stalls and won't go over 20mph. Several repairs later and it is still happening almost daily. It has nearly caused an accident several times.

Car hesitant to crank, once the Start/ stop button is pushed, the car will start, run smooth for a second or two then start to shake and putter like it’s not getting fuel and loses it power and cuts off. I have to go through this process 5/6 times before the car will stay crunk.

Since july 2019 my vehicle has continually shown a check engine light with the message, power engine reduced on the dashboard. When this occurs, the rpms increase drastically and vehicle can not go over 30 MPH. This has happened on highways and main roads.

I have had my car in twice for my issue now. When attempting to accelerate the engine light comes on and I have to push the gas to the floor to get the car to move. First time it happened as I was getting on the expressway last time was pulling out onto a busy road during rush hour and almost got into an accident because of this.

Was advised by service advisor that this is a known Chevrolet issue but no recall issued to date. The fix required a park switch replacement; jumper park switched was installed on 11/7/24.

Transmission Surge Accumulator System Performance. The car fails to accelerate once it comes to a complete stop, traffic lights, etc. The car will rev up to 5000 RPMs but will not reach 10 MPH.

Today is 41 days with noises coming out of my car to 41 days to shift to park message again today my car wanted to turn off at the stop luckily I made it home to parking and again shift to park message came on GM supervisor never called me to NHTSA never helps so who do I run to for help I don't want to be injured or killed in this car on August 18,2023 while driving lost power to no gas no brakes to driving like this for five minutes to shutting down I'm I to be injured or killed in that when NHTSA gonna help me GM should be shut down and NHTSA should not say there helping you both are jokes....Help me and help all of us that have making complaints on these dam cars.....

Warning lights never come up for the five years I've had it On August 18, 2023 while driving I lost power to no gas no brakes to driving like this for five minutes at the end shift to park message came on I was scared thank God I didn't die. On September 15,2023 Ed Denas dealership stated my car fine I disagree with them as again shift to park message comes up.

When putting vehicle into park vehicle will give message saying that the vehicle is not in park when it clearly is in park. I sometimes have to turn the vehicle off or mess with the gear shift for a little while for the message to finally go because the vehicle itself will not power off until the message goes away. This could be a safety issue and chevy needs to address this asap!

My transmission has had multiple repairs since I've gotten my vehicle. The vehicle had to go in for several months while they fixed the transmission but once I got it back it instantly had another transmission issue. It has also had the shifter replaced, which is another transmission issue.

Vehicle experienced reduced power before learning about and addressing the recall. A couple of months following my vehicle began to shut off and restart while giving various error messages. This occurred while going speeds less than 35 MPH and while stopped.

I was driving down the interstate doing 74 miles an hour when all of a sudden the car jerked and started slowing down. The display screen showed a messaging saying engine power reduced. I pulled over on the shoulder because it wouldn't let me accelerate and had slowed the car down to 50 MPH.

When I put my car into park and go to turn off the vehicle, it throws a "shift to park" code on the dash when my car clearly is in park. I took it up to a chevy dealership, and they said that there were quite a few vehicles that were having the same issues. They told me that there were two options as to what it could be, so I paid for the first option that gm recommended they do first.

Vehicle frequently has an issue accelerating. When pulling out into traffic or departing from a red light, the vehicle fails to move more than approximately 5 miles an hour for approximately 5-10 seconds. You can have the gas pedal pushed to the floor and still the car has serious hesitation and delay of acceleration.

Regarding bulletin no.: 18-na-297: historically, if a vehicle is not in "park" the neutral safety switch prevents the engine from starting. In the case of the chevy malibu, and similarly affected vehicles, this is not the case. While the display reads, "shift to park," the operator can still start the vehicle.

Purchased 2018 chevy malibu with 4,200 but new due to it being a dealer courtesy car on 12/18/18, on 1/7/19 the car would not accelerate while stationary in a parking lot attempting to pull out of the parking spot. I put the car in park and when shifting back to drive the transmission slammed into gear and the accelerator barely responded and the car revved to over 5,000 RPM's.

Bought this car brand new in august 2018. Someone needs to take this seriously if I injured myself or kill others with this car GM says no to my request of repurchase since my break down on August 18 to now I continue to get shift to park message this is my only car please help me that you implement a recall ASAP this is the only car I have I ask they fix this problem repurchase or replace my car this is the only car I have someone help me please help me just got into my driveway coming from store and again I get shift to park message please help me

Today again shift to park message came on

I keep getting shift to park message every time I go to park. My vehicle is in park and won’t turn off the radio and lights inside. It is starting to drain my battery and every day I wake up my battery is now dead.

Vehicle shut down in traffic lost all power as I'm pushing my Vehicle to a safe location in neutral it starts back up without me starting it there was a recall for this year make and model the recall numbers are N192221960 NHTSA # 19V642 Date Issued: Sep 06, 2019 those problems are infact the same issues I am having

When the car is shifted into "Park", then I attempt to turn the car off, the car turns off partially, but the electrical system stays on and a message saying "! - Shift to Park" appears on the screen.

vehicle not in park error on display , when the vehicle has been put in park. have to flick the shift lever a couple of times for the error to go away, wont let you shut vehicle off, wont let you start the vehicle.

Please see General Motors Technical Service Bulletin 19NA206.745.57. There is a problem that occurs with the transmission shifter. Even though the driver has shifted into Park, the switch inside the shifter assembly triggers a message "Shift to Park." At times, the ignition cannot be turned off and the driver has to keep trying.

Brake Power Booster, vehicle not starting. Not catching, brakes when completely out couldn’t stop

When I put my 2018 Chevy Malibu in Park I receive Shift to Park' error message. I have to keep pushing on the gear shift to get it to go into park mode. It happens frequently.

The stability track system comes on the vehicle slows down and stops in traffic. Then it says shift to park and will not start. The computer often displays reduce engine power.

Shift to park light comes on when it was already put in park and shut car off.

When I get to a destination and put car in park it says " shift to park" like it's not in park. I have to wiggle my gear shift around for it to go away. Or when I park, I have to give it a forceful push to park.

Getting an error "shift to park" message when parking and trying to shut the vehicle off. Have to now apply the parking brake, shift into gear, and shift back to park to get the vehicle to register in that it is in park to shut off. This error does not allow vehicles to be shut off or even doors locked which could pose a risk of a small child getting into the vehicle in these hot temperatures.

Car continued to send message "Shift to Park" which required diagnosis and replacement of gear shift assembly by independent service garage because car warranty has expired. Battery would die without message being eliminated. The message infers that the car is not in park which means that the car could roll away injuring someone or damaging property.

My ‘18 Malibu LT has over 39K miles , and just tonight, I started my car , the engine light and traction control light both came on, followed by a message saying “Engine Power Reduced”. I then decided to drive for a little to see if I notice any problem. After driving for about 4 minutes , my car went from 37mph down to 20mph .

The car is in park but a message shows, on the instrument panel, "shift to park". The car cannot be locked and the warning message stays on because the car thinks it's not in park. This is a recurring problem that was corrected by pushing on the shifter but now the message is staying on.

When putting the car in park the (shift to park light appears on the dash). It happens at least 9 times a week. Very frustrating when I can not turn the car off.

While going highway speeds on my 2018 malibu, I received a notification on my dash that said my engine was losing power. After clearing the notification, my car dropped in MPH and I couldn't go faster than 60mph. After a minute or two after that, my MPH dropped again and I couldn't go faster than 25 MPH while my rpms were spiking at 4000.

Reduce power message appeared while in traffic reducing speed dramatically. Was not able to go more than 13 MPH in a 50mph zone.

My 2018 chevrolet malibu has a problem when shifting from drive into park. The message on my dash says " shift to park " even though it is in park. And you can not shut off the engine.

While driving on the freeway at speeds of up to 80 MPH at random times the car will suddenly slow itself down to 20 MPH and the dash will message that engine power is reduced. It's a serious problem that is dangerous to not only the people in the vehicle but all other vehicles on the road also.

On chevy malibus when you put the vehicle in park and shut it off, anywhere, and the vehicle is stationary, a message will pop up "shift to park" but it is already in park. The car will not lock and battery will die down if you can't get it to sense that the car is in park. You have to mess around with the shifter until it will recognize it is in "park".

Car not wanting to get up to speed when pulling onto busy roadway. Feels like it creeps up to speed slowly feels like it is not in accurate gear.

23000 miles on a used vehicle. Acceleration/low power, the vehicle does not receive any power until 4000 rpms, gas pedal can be pushed down and still takes it time to accelerate. MPG is currently averaging 18 MPG advertised as 27-37 MPG
