2016 Chevrolet Malibu Electrical Problems

My car caught on fire under the hood. As I was driving on road I heard a sound and my car started slowing down and smoke started coming from under the hood got out the car not a minute later flames of smoke engulfed the car

The engine power reduced came light came on along with service stability trac. The car would stall after going into auto stop and just shut off. In certain instances it would shutoff when slowed down enough.

Engine power reduced defect, causing affected models to lose power while driving at highway speeds. My son’s was driving 55 MPH and then all of sudden the car decelerated to 20 MPH in minutes before his 2016 Malibu stalled on [XXX]. Unfortunately the car did not make it to the emergency lane and as a result a SUV hit his car killing my daughter who was 33 weeks pregnant.

The electrical chip in my EBCM has a malfunction and the brakes will grab and grind at random times. Also at the time electronic stability control will mess up increasing the risk of a crash. Other malibu vehicles with the same year have had a recall on these parts.

My 2016 Malibu is a piece of shit. Randomly, and this cannot be anticipated or reproduced, I will be driving and the car will say "engine power has been reduced". This is dangerous!

The engine light has illuminated due to a cylinder 1 misfire and ECM lost connection with the fuel pump which also caused problem with the pistons on the vehicle. All of these issue are related to the engine and it’s only 94,343 miles on the car

Driving on highway at speed of 70mph during rush hour very very busy when my car shows a warning engine power reduced and slows all the way down to 20mph lucky I was able to get over the 3 lanes of traffic without causing an accident but this is very unsafe I looked to see if there was a recall on the vehicle but there’s not so I had a mechanic look at the car and they said nothing is wrong with it ???

I was driving on the I-10 west highway at 70mph when all of a sudden a engine power reduced message came across the screen & due to the loss of acceleration I was almost rear ended by an 18 wheeler because I couldn't pull over to the side of the road fast enough...also, on some days when I start my car it doesn't make any noise so therefore the radio will not work, the signal light sounds doesn't work, nor does the seatbelt sounds work .

Adaptive cruise control which controls vehicle speed to ensure safe distance stopped working rendering cruise control inoperable. This also caused the forward crash avoidance to not work. Vehicle trouble code uo269-00 stored which resulted in replacing long range radar module to correct for $1055.00

I own a 2016 chevy malibu and one of its features is an auto stop/start feature in the car. When this car enters this mode when I take my foot off of the break it is supposed to start again but when I take my foot off of the break it will just completely shut down, when I try to start the car again it will just stall.

Since I bought this car new in 2016 I have had to replace the vcm 4 times. Nothing seemed to fix the problem. The stop/start never worked right.

The #1 issue is the Transmission Accumulator Pressure Pipe, when it breaks all your transmission oil pours out from the bottom of the vehicle.

I've had problems with the off and on ignition push button since last year. I have to push and start several time in order to cut off to lock my doors and turn the radio off. My brakes locked on me while driving on the street and smelled like rubber where burning.

There’s a warning on the display that says ‘shift to park’ while the vehicle is already in park. This is causing the battery to drain/die and needs jumpstart everyday. Battery was tested and does not need to be replaced.

I bought this car August 2013 and I have been constantly having issues with it I contacted the BBB they showed them a check off list of the problem I was having to quiet them I was having rear in issues that they claim they did a full exspection of the vehicle which isn't true they tried to give me excuses now the car shows it's in part but it's saying action is required the car isn't in parking made a video on my phone so they can't make a excuse this should be a recall because I have read reviews with people having the same problem not once but two times after the first repair and it's not fair to the consumer someone need to investigate the dealerships.I can't get my video to upload I do have a short video on my cell phone

My problem started with the engine first sending me a code “reduced engine power” and this code would appear one week and gone the next. I have taken it to mechanics and had parts replaced and temporary fixes. After getting it back from the mechanic and them telling me that the cylinder one isn’t holding the correct pressure and the exhaust value is burnt due to the consistent auto engine shutoff.

Engine needed rebuilt due to a defect, in this process vehichle computer was reset, after the reset the radio began acting oddly randomly changing inputs and radio stations and occasionally not turning on. culminating in all internal audio going out including turn signal noise and internal alarms like seat belt, and key left in vehicle, with a black touch screen.

WHEN AUTO-STOPPED THE ENTIRE CAR SHUTS DOWN. IT TURNS COMPLETELY OFF AND STARTS MOVING BACKWARDS BEFORE TURNING BACK ON. A DIAGNOSTIC REVEALED A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER SUPPLY TRANSFORMER AND BATTERY CURRENT SENSOR CIRCUIT. THEY ARE ERODED I BELIEVE. I WAS WORRIED THAT I WOULD BREAKDOWN AND COULDN'T GET HOME. I DID MAKE IT HOME AND WAS SHAKEN BY THE EXPERIENCE. I HAVE A 2016 CHEVY MALIBU AND THE DEALERSHIP QUOTED $350 TO FIX IT. IT IS STILL THERE AS DIDN'T HAVE FUNDS TO FIX IT. DEALERSHIP SAID IT IS AN ISSUE WITH GAS PEDAL NOT READING IN SYSTEM CORRECTLY. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY RISK BECAUSE IT HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY GOING 60 MPH, AND IT DROPPED SPEED TO 35 MPH! THIS IS SO DANGEROUS! ESPECIALLY BECAUSE IT HAPPENED AT NIGHT IN A SECLUDED AREA. THIS IS SUPER SCARY FOR A WOMAN DRIVER THINKING I WAS GOING TO BREAKDOWN AT ANY MOMENT. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING UBER SINCE COVID AND NO WORK AVAILABLE IN MY REGULAR JOB. SINCE I DON'T HAVE MY CAR, I CAN'T DRIVE TO MAKE ANY MONEY TO FIX IT. I WAS UNABLE TO WORK ON UBER'S BIGGEST NIGHT OF THE YEAR ON NEW YEAR'S EVE, LOSING OUT OF A $500 NIGHT. WHEN THE CAR GOES INTO THE AUTO STOP MODE IT COMPLETELY DIES AND THE LIGHT. NO DASH LIGHTS, NO DOME LIGHT, NO HAZARD LIGHTS, LITERALLY NOTHING WORKS. WHEN PLACING MY VEHICLE INTO THE PARK POSITION AND TRYING TO TURN MY ENGINE OFF A MESSAGE STATES TO PUT THE VEHICLE INTO THE PARK POSITION BEFORE THE ENGINE WILL SHUT OFF. THE CAR STAYS ON UNTIL IT GOES OFF BY DEFAULT WHICH CAUSES A DRAW ON THE BATTERY. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN HAPPENING CONSISTENTLY FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS AND WHEN I TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP I AM TOLD THAT THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE.

I GET ROUTINE SERVICE TO MY CAR & MY ENGINE IS CLICKING, LOUDLY. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CONTINUOUSLY GOES ON & OFF & I WAS TOLD BY CHEVROLET SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT THEY COULD NOT EVEN RUN A DIAGNOSTICS TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS BECAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS OFF WHEN I GOT TO THE DEALERSHIP. SOMETIMES 'SERVICE BATTERY CHARGING SYSTEM' WILL ILLUMINATE BUT IT TOO PICKS AND CHOOSES WHEN TO ILLUMINATE. SOMETIMES IT SHOWS 'BATTERY SAVER ACTIVATED' AND THIS IS THE THIRD BATTERY I'VE PURCHASED! THE ENTIRE CAR WILL STALL/SHUT OFF BUT THE GREEN LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED TO SHOW THE CAR IS ON BUT WHEN I ACCELERATE IT WON'T BUDGE! DANGEROUS CONSIDERING MY CAR COULD STALL AT ANYTIME AND CAUSE A COLLISION. I'VE NEARLY GOTTEN T-BONED TWICE COMING OUT A GAS STATION ENTERING A ROAD BECAUSE MY CAR STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET WHILE TRAFFIC WAS COMING FROM BOTH DIRECTIONS! A SERVICE MAN AT THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP ASKED ME WAS I EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH MY AUTO START/STOP WHEN I TOLD HIM WHAT WAS HAPPENING. YES! MY CAR PICKS AND CHOOSES WHEN IT WANTS TO DO IT. AND WHEN IT DOES 'RESTART' THE ENTIRE CAR REBOOTS, THE LOCKS RE-CLICK, LIGHTS FLICKER, IT'LL BE IN DRIVE AND ROLL BACKWARDS UNTIL THE IGNITION TURNS OVER! CHEVY OR AT LEAST THE SERVICE TECHS ARE FULLY AWARE OF AN ISSUE AND WON'T FIX IT. SOMETIMES THE CAR JUST WON'T START, ALL THE POWER WILL GO OUT. WHEN THE VEHICLE COMES TO A STOP AT A LIGHT, THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF WHILE IN DRIVE, HOWEVER THE LIGHTS & RADIO REMAIN ON IN THE CAR & THE START BUTTON STILL SHOWS THE CAR AS 'ON'. THE ENGINE WILL NOT REV & THE CAR WILL NOT MOVE FORWARD WHEN IN DRIVE. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN THE CAR OFF THEN ON AGAIN, THE CAR WILL NOT RESTART WITHOUT A JUMP. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO CUT THE CAR ON WITHOUT A JUMP, THE DOORS LOCK & UNLOCK ON THEIR OWN AND ALL OF THE LIGHTS IN THE CAR, ALONG WITH THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH, FLICKER ON & OFF AND THERE IS A CLICKING NOISE BUT THE CAR DOESN'T CUT ON.

WHEN I PLACE THE CAR IN PARK IT DOES NOT REGISTER THAT IT IS PARK AND A 'SHIFT INTO PARK' ERROR COMES UP. EVERYTHING STAYS ON IN THE CAR AND THE BATTERY DRAINS IF IT'S NOT CORRECTED. IT CAN TAKE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO GET IT TO RECOGNIZE IT IS IN PARK. MUST KEEP TURNING THE CAR IN AND OFF UNTIL IT SENSES IT'S IN PARK. IT HAS TAKEN UP TO 10 TIMES UNTIL IT FINALLY SENSES IT.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT ON OCCASIONS THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE VEHICLE SLID BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THIS HAPPENS WHEN I HAVE STOPPED AT THE STORE , HOME OR WHEREVER IAM GOING TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES , THE WORST WAS TWO DAYS AGO AT HOME, TUESDAY , AUGUST 25, 2020

THE VEHICLE IS DRIVING NORMAL AND SUDDENLY SHUTS DOWN FOR NO APPARENT REASON. UPON PARKING, YOU TRY TO START THE CAR, AND IT WON'T. WAIT FOR APPROX. 30 MINS AND THE CAR STARTS BUT A BIT ROUGH FIRST AND THEN DRIVES.

I BOUGHT THIS CAR & DID NOT EVEN HAVE IT A MONTH AND THE SUNROOF WOULD START TO CLOSE AND THEN WOULD STOP AND OPEN OR GET STUCK HALF WAY OPEN. WHEN TRYING TO GET THIS TO CLOSE THE SUNROOF WOULD CLOSE WITHOUT PUTTING BEING PRESSED. THE WIRING HARNESS FAILED AND WAS BAD.

My shift to park indicator displays on the dash when my car is already in park. The car can't be turned off until the indicator goes off. I usually change gears and put back in park or push it harder while it is already in park.

THIS OFTEN TAKES 5-20 MIN. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE RADIO WON'T TURN OFF, THE DASH BOARD WON'T TURN OFF AND CAR WON'T SHUT DOWN. ALSO THE CAR OFTEN GIVES ME INCORRECT READINGS ON THE DASH BOARD. *TR

13 months ago I began having accelerator sensor issues. Driving 40+ MPH and the check engine light came on, "engine reduced power", "stabilitrak" came on my hud.

When driving the vehicle first the engine light came on and I got a diagnostics it was the mass air flow sensor code coming up. I had the thotle cleaned.... The engine light went off 2 daya later.

Car wouldn't completely turn off. Car stayed it wasn't parked. Ignition went from green to orange instead to no color/off.

The acceleration sensor is making the engine reduce power ,know as the throttle body.. It only comes on when it's raining outside or my car is driven in the rain ,then next day this starts happening.. Has to be some type of recalll on this sensor ,very dangerous reduces your speed down to 40 or sometimes 20 when it comes on

My wife was driving on the highway when suddenly a message come on the dash stating reduced engine power then the check engine light. Alternator bearing is going bad. I have not replaced it yet the car is only two years old alternator should last at least seven years. I also had a new engine put in a few months ago because of the piston cracked.

Vehicle isn’t recognizing that it’s in park, shift to park keeps coming on dashboard which is also causing my vehicle not to change gears correctly

When I put the car in park and try to turn the car off the Shift Park message comes on preventing me from cutting the car completely off. I put in back in drive or reverse then back in park it still dings and shows the message. I takes a number of repeating these steps for it to stop and turn off and this is happening every time I'm trying to turn the car off.

Shift to park message and park not fully engaging. This caused the vehicle to roll back when parked on an incline.

Problem with losing power in auto stop

When the vehicle is in drive, the display will say "reduced engine power" and will drop the car to 25mph even on the highway. I've almost wrecked from this issue. I've seen where GM has had class actions on this prior but it was never recalled.

I was driving all of a sudden my car goes from drive to park on the freeway. Then it goes into reverse.

When I go to shut the engine off it sometime still runs and after pressing the off button I have to go thru this off cycle many times before everything shuts down. The screen behind the steering wheel says to put it in "park" but it is already in "park". This could be a real safety problem because someone could drive the car into the garage, shut the door and not even know the engine is running!

The vehicle runs fine other than when the problems start acting up. It is a bcm issue involving the stabilitrak and ABS. Every few weeks or so, I'll get 3 service light ups in my dash stating 'service vehicle soon, service stabilitrak, service brake assist, reduced power steering drive with care' after coming to a stop.
