Your car caught fire when your son tried to start the engine in a parking lot. He heard a loud pop and saw smoke coming from under the hood before the fire department extinguished it. The vehicle had about 132,000 miles at the time. A qualified mechanic will need to inspect the engine bay to identify what ignition or electrical component failed and caused the fire.

THE BYPASS VALVE GOING FROM THE WATER PUMP MELTED. I WAS TOLD IT IS BECAUSE IT WAS A PLASTIC PIECE THAT WAS RECALLED AND REPLACED WITH METAL PIECES. RIGHT NOW WATER/ANTIFREEZE JUST LEAKS.
PREVIOUS COMPLAINT NUMBER 10955413 DONE ON 2/18/2017. THE IGNITION SWITCH ON MY 2001 CHEVROLET IMPALA AS WELL AS MY 1989 CHEVROLET CAPRICE. BOTH VEHICLES HAVE BEEN PURCHASED BY MYSELF WITH NOTHING BEING OWED ON EITHER VEHICLE. THE CAPRICE STOPPED ON A HIGHWAY AND WAS LATER TOWED TO MY PARENTS HOUSE. THE IMPALA STOPPED AT THE ENTRANCE TO CEDAR CREST NURSING HOME IN MONTGOMERY,ALABAMA AND IT COASTED INTO THE PARKING LOT IN THE REAR OF THE NURSING HOME JUST OUTSIDE MY FATHERS WINDOW WHO WAS A RESIDENT AT SAID NURSING HOME.
THIS COMPLAINT IS AN UPDATE TO TWO PREVIOUSLY FILED COMPLAINTS 10949546 AND 10948110 BOTH COMPLAINTS DEAL WITH IGNITION SWITCH ISSUES BOTH WERE REPORTED AS MISSING OR STOLEN AS A RESULT OF IGNITION DIFFICULTIES. THIS SERVES AS AN UPGRADE TO THE COMPLAINTS AS BEING BOTH STOLEN AT THIS POINT DUE TO THE LENGTH OF TIME THAT BOTH VEHICLES HAVE BEEN MISSING.

I HAVE MULTIPLE PROBLEMS AND PARTS REPLACED ON MY 2001 CHEVY IMPALA 3.8. WITHIN 2 WEEKS OF PURCHASING I'VE BEEN BATTLING ABS, TRAC OFF, AND SERVICE TRACTION SYSTEM CODES FOR 10 YEARS NOW AND I'VE REPLACED PARTS OVER AND OVER ONLY FOR THE LIGHTS TO GO OUT FOR MAYBE 30 DAYS THEN COME BACK ON AND STAY ON. I'M IN THE MILITARY AND DEPLOYED FOR A YEAR RIGHT AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR WITHOUT EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT 30 DAY WARRANTY. I WAS TOLD WHEN I GOT BACK TO BRING IT IN BECAUSE I HAD THE ISSUE 2 WEEKS AFTER I BOUGHT IT AND THEY FIXED IT THEN IT REPEATED IN 3 MONTHS. 1 YEAR LATER THEY SAID THEY WOULDN'T FIX IT AND THEY WOULD JUST FIND ANOTHER BROKEN PART DIFFERENT FROM BEFORE AND POINT IT TO THAT AND NOT COVER FIXING THE ISSUE I BOUGHT THE CAR WITH. SO MULTIPLESHOPS AND PARTS LATER I'M STILL REPLACING PARTS. LR WHEEL SENSOR READS 0 AND I JUST REPLACED THE SENSOR AGAIN.... NOW ABOUT TO BUY THE WIRING HARNESS AND TRY THAT AGAIN.
WHILE STARTING 2001 IMPALA 3.8 INTAKE MANIFOLD EXPLODED CAUSING FIRE. HAVE READ OF MANY OTHER CASES ONLINE SINCE THIS HAPPENED THIS MORNING. 1/7/2016..IF CAR HAD BEEN IN GARAGE IT COULD HAVE BEEN REALLY BAD...THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL FROM GM....
AS I WAS DRIVING MY ABS / TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON AT 45MPH I WAS BRAKING AND HEARD THIS WEIRD SOUND I WAS SLOWLY BRAKING AND THE CAR WASAT COMPLETE STOP ACELARATING THEN MY CAR POWERED OFF.
WELL I TOOK THE CAR IN T 10AM FOR YEMMS TO PUT THE CHIP IN THE KEY AND THE CAR STILL DOESN'T START. SO I TOOK THE KEY TO GET ANOTHER ONE MADE TESTED AND THERE WAS NO CHIP FOUND IN THE KEY. SO NOW WHAT THE CAR DOESN'T MOVE SO I CAN'T TAKE IT TO YEMMS.
WE HAVE A 2001 IMPALA THAT'S BEEN DOWN FOR AWHILE EVERYONE SAID IT WAS THE IGNITION SWITH SO WE CHANGED IT WE ALSO CHANGED THE HAZARD SWITCH BUTTON AND STILL NOTHING AND THE BATTERY WONT HOLD A CHARGE WHEN IT WAS RUNNING BATTERY LIGHT WOULD FLASH ON AND OFF. *TT
SAFETY RECALL RECEIVED FROM GM ON 6/5/09 REGARDING RECALL #09047. CONTACTED DEALER ON 6/8/09 FOR NEEDED REPAIRS AND WAS TOLD THAT PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE AND NO ETA FOR AVAILABILITY AND/OR REPAIRS. *TR
TURNING INTO MY MOTHER'S DRIVEWAY, I APPLIED THE FOOT BRAKE. THE TOE OF MY SHOE HIT THE PANEL ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE DASH. AS I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE TO RELEASE THE PEDAL, THE PANEL FELL ONTO AND BLOCKED THE PEDALS. THE PANEL WAS TETHERED BY A BULB, SOCKET AND CABLE. I COULD NO LONGER REACH OR OPERATE THE BRAKE PEDAL AGAIN. I STOPPED THE VEHICLE BY SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL AND APPLYING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. ALTHOUGH GOING VERY SLOWLY, BY THE TIME I WAS ABLE TO STOP I HAD CRASHED INTO MY MOTHER'S GARAGE DOOR. ONE OF 2 PLASTIC CLIPS BROKE WHEN THE TOE OF MY SHOE STRUCK IT CAUSING IT TO FALL AND BLOCKING THE USE OF THE PEDALS. IF THIS HAD OCCURRED AT 60 MPH, I WOULD HAVE LOST CONTROL AND CRASHED. MY ASSESSMENT IS "FAULTY DESIGN" OF THE PANEL AND CLIPS. STRIKING THE PANEL WITH THE TOE OF THE SHOE SHOULD NOT BREAK THE FASTENERS SUCH THAT THE PANEL FALLS AND MAKES THE PEDALS UNREACHABLE AND UNUSABLE. *NM
THE CLEAR COAT IS COMING OFF THE CAR. WE BOUGHT THE CAR USED (OCT. 26/01) AND TOOK IT TO ZIEBART TO HAVE A PROTECTIVE COATING PUT ON.(NOV. 9/01) THE GM PROTECTION PLAN WAS VERY EXPENSIVE. WHEN WE TOOK IT BACK FOR ITS ONE-YEAR CHECK-UP(OCT. 21/02),THE TECHNICIAN AT ZIEBART TOLD US THAT THE CLEAR COAT WAS COMING OFF. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP ON OCT. 31/02. THE WARRANTEE WAS FOR 60000 KM (38000 MILES). THE DEALERSHIP REPAIRED THE PART THAT WAS COMING OFF "AS A GESTURE OF GOOD WILL" BECAUSE THE WARRANTEE WAS UP, BUT WE REQUESTED THAT THEY DO THE WHOLE CAR, AS WE FELT THAT THE PROBLEM WOULD RECUR. "THEY DO NOT REPAIR WHAT IS NOT DAMAGED." NOW, 7 MONTHS LATER, THE CLEAR COAT IS COMING OFF A DIFFERENT PART OF THE CAR. THEY WILL COVER 50% OF THE COST OF REPAIR, BUT WHEN I ASKED WHAT HAPPENS IF THIS PROBLEM RECURS, I WAS TOLD WE WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. GM CANADA IS PLAYING HARD-BALL AND BACKS THE DEALERSHIP. "THE MATTER IS CLOSED". WHEN I ASKED IF THERE WAS AN OMBUDSMAN, THEY SAID NO AND THAT MY ONLY OTHER OPTION IS "TO GET LEGAL COUNSEL OR GO TO GM MEDIATION OR ARBITRATION." DO YOU HAVE A CANADIAN COUNTERPART? THANK YOU.
