Your vehicle enters a low-power or "limp mode" whenever it's exposed to water from rain or car washes, limiting acceleration to around 30 mph. Water is getting into an electrical connection and causing a short circuit, and this appears to be a known issue affecting multiple owners. This happened while you were driving on the freeway during a rainstorm, forcing you to pull over and restart the vehicle multiple times before normal power returned. The fix will likely involve identifying and sealing the water intrusion point in the electrical system and checking for corrosion or damage to wiring connections.

ENGINE OVERHEATING "STATIONARY AND IN MOTION" SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH MOST 2006 AND ABOVE. I REPLACED THE THERMOSTAT, THE WATER PUMP, I PERFORMED A RADIATOR FLUSH, REPLACED THE ECT SENSOR, AND STILL THE CAR OVER HEATS. I DID A COMPRESSION TEST AND IT'S FINE, I CHECKED THE HEAD GASKETS AND THEY ARE FINE. THE OIL LOOKS FINE, THE RADIATOR FLUID LOOKS FINE. I WENT THROUGH A CAR WASH AFTER REPLACING THE WATER PUMP, THERMOSTAT, AND ECT SENSOR. THE CAR STILL OVER HEATS, BOTH AT IDLE AND AFTER DRIVING 2 MILES OR 10 MILES. I'VE BEEN TOLD IT'S EITHER AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE, A RADIATOR ISSUE, OR ENGINE ELECTRICAL ISSUE. I CAN NOT KEEP PUTTING MONEY INTO A CAR THAT IS ONLY WORTH $2,500. MANY OTHER PEOPLE I HAVE NOTICED POSTED THE SAME ISSUE OF OVER HEATING AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE ABOUT IT. IT SHOULD BE A CHEVY RECALL, AND REPAIRED BY THE MANUFACTURER. HERE IS AN EXAMPLE OF 1 OTHER COMPLAINT:........ON NOVEMBER 17TH THE VEHICLE STARTED TO TELL ME THAT IT WAS OVERHEATING AND TO TURN A/C OFF. A/C WAS NOT EVEN ON BECAUSE IT WAS COLD AND THE HEAT WAS BLOWING COLD AIR. THE VEHICLE THEN TOLD ME WHILE I WAS TRYING TO GET TO A SAFE LOCATION TO PULL OVER THAT THE ENGINE POWER WAS REDUCED AND THE VEHICLE STATED TO CRAWL ALONG THE ROAD. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS LOOKED AT WHERE I PULLED OVER THERE WAS MINIMAL OIL IN THE VEHICLE AND IT HAD BLOW COOLANT ALL OVER THE DRIVER SIDE WHEEL WELL FROM WHAT LOOKED LIKE THE OVERFLOW TUBE. OIL WAS PUT IN THE VEHICLE SO THAT I COULD DRIVE IT TO A SAFE LOCATION. ON NOVEMBER 18TH I WENT TO START THE VEHICLE TO GO TO WORK AND WITHOUT GOING ANY PLACE BUT SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY IT STARTED TO TELL ME THAT THE ENGINE WAS OVERHEATING AND TO TURN A/C OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. THE DEALERSHIP THAT I USE WORKED ON IT AND REPLACED THE TEMP CONTROL AND THERMOSTAT AND DID A COMPLETE OIL CHANGE. MANY OTHER EQUINOX OWNERS ARE HAVING SAME ISSUE

THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IN MY 2007 CHEVY EQUINOX LS ALL THE GAUGES STOP WORKING THEN I'LL START WORKING AND YOU DON'T KNOW IF YOUR CAR IS OVERHEATING YOU DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH GAS YOU HAVE OR HOW FAST YOU'RE GOING THE ODOMETER STUCK AT 1:20 SOME DAYS THAT'LL WORK SOME DAYS IT DON'T AND I BELIEVE THEY HAD A RECALL ON THIS BUT ONLY SOME CARS WERE AFFECTED WHEN THEY SHOULD HAVE RECALLED ALL OF THEM AND REPLACE THE STEPPER MOTORS ON ALL 2007 EQUINOXES NOT JUST SOME I'VE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS NOW FOR TOO LONG AS THEY SAID IT WAS VERY EXPENSIVE TO GET IT REPAIRED WELL WITH ALL THE COMPLAINTS I SEEN ONLINE I FEEL THAT THEY SHOULD HAVE RECALLED IT AND FIXED ALL OF THEM THERE STILL A LOT OF 07 ON THE ROAD AND IT'S A SAFETY HAZARD MY WIFE REFUSES TO DRIVE THE CAR CUZ SHE DOESN'T KNOW HOW FAST SHE'S GOING AND I'M ABOUT TO THAT POINT NOW I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH GAS I GOT SOMETIMES I DON'T KNOW IF THE CAR IS HOT OR IF I'M GOING TO RUN OUT OF GAS I DO USE THE TRIP FUNCTION ON EVERY TANK OF GAS I HAVE TO MY I REALLY THINK THIS NEEDS TO BE TAKING A LOOK AT AN ALL O SEVENS RECALLS ON THE STEPPER MOTORS REPLACED OR SOMEBODY GETS KILLED SOMEBODY MAY PANIC THINK THEY'RE GOING 120 OR THINK THAT THEIR CARS GOING TO STOP AND THEY COULD GET INTO SERIOUS ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE GAUGES AREN'T WORKING AND IT JUST STARTLED THEM THIS PROBLEM STARTED AFTER I PURCHASE THE VEHICLE USED AND THE GUY TOLD ME THAT HE NOTICED IT A COUPLE TIMES ON THE ODOMETER WELL IT'S SLOWLY DEVELOPED INTO ALL THE GAUGES NOW. *TR

MY 2007 CHEVY EQUINOX INSTRUMENT PANEL HAS BEEN ACTING UP HERE RECENTLY AND THE SPEEDOMETER GOES TO 120MPH AND STAYS THERE. YOU CAN'T TELL HOW FAST YOU ARE GOING. THAT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE GAS GAUGE N TEMPERATURE GAUGE WILL GO TO THE TOP LIKE FULL OR HOT OR NOT MOVE AT ALL. COULD BURN AN ENGINE UP OR RUN OUT OF GAS. RECALL WAS DONE I HEARD BUT NOT ON ALL 2007EQUINOX VEHICLES AND IT SHOULD HAVE INCLUDED ALL. THERE ARE A LOT STILL ON THE ROAD. I AM ASKING FOR SAFETY REASONS TO INCLUDE ALL 2007 CHEVY EQUINOX VEHICLES TO BE RECALLED AND FIXED BY GM. IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO HAVE REPAIRED AT A SHOP OR AT THE DEALER. IF I WAS ABLE TO DO MYSELF I WOULD BUT I'M NOT A MECHANIC OR DO I KNOW ELECTRICAL SO I'M NOT DOING IT. I WANT IT DONE BY A PROFESSIONAL AND I AM PLEADING THAT ALL 07 CHEVY EQUINOX VEHICLES BE INCLUDED AND A NEW RECALL BE SENT OUT TO ALL 2007 OWNERS. THAT IS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. 07 EQUINOX VEHICLE WOULDN'T START, KEY STUCK IN IGNITION. TRIED WIGGLING STEERING WHEEL WHICH WAS NOT LOCKED AND WOULD NOT LOCK. THE KEY WOULD NOT COME ALL THE WAY BACK IN ORDER TO GET IT OUT. CAR WAS IN PARK AT HOME THANK GOD. TRIED EVERYTHING I KNOW EVEN LOOKED IT UP ON GOOGLE. THERE WERE SO MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS ABOUT 07 EQUINOX KEY STUCK AND SOME VEHICLES WOULD START AND LOTS MORE WOULDNT?? WE TRIED TO DO START BUT IT DID NOT TURN OVER. WE HAD TO PUT ON A CHARGER AND MONITOR THE BATTERY TO SEE IF IT WOULD CHARGE. LATER THAT NIGHT I TOOK THE VEHICLE OFF THE CHARGER AND TRIED IT AND IT STARTED. WENT AND HAD BATTERY CHECKED AT ADVANCE AUTO AND THEY SAID BATTERY HAS NO PROBLEMS FULLY CHARGED. HOW CAN THAT BE WHAT IS CAUSING THIS. I SEEN ONLINE MANY, MANY, COMPLAINTS ON THIS EQUINOX ISSUE AND IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. WHAT HAPPENS IF IT DECIDES TO JUST STOP WORKING ON THE INTERSTATE GOING 65-75 MPH. SOMEONE COULD GET SERIOUS INJURED KILLED IF THEY LOSE POWER ALL OF A SUDDEN. NO LIGHTS WERE LEFT ON, NOTHING WAS LEFT ON CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO DRAIN THE BATTERY ALL OF A SUDDEN. THE KEY WAS NOT LEFT IN THE VEHICLE I WENT TO START IT AND KEY STAYED STUCK IN IGNITION AND TURNED OVER BUT NOTHING NO POWER. IF YOU LOSE POWER DRIVING YOU LOSE POWER STEERING. POWER BRAKES, AND IT TAKES A WHILE TO GET VEHICLE TO A STOP. EVEN USING PARKING BRAKE WHICH MOST PEOPLE WOULD PANIC AND FORGET TO TRY N GET VEHICLE STOPPED AND CRASH INTO AND CARS OR PEDESTRIANS FOR THAT MATTER IF POWER GOES OUT WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. THIS NEED TO BE RECALLED AND FIGURE OUT WHAT IS CAUSING THIS PROBLEM. I HAD TO RECHARGE BATTERY MYSELF. IT CHECKED OUT AS GOOD BATTERY FULLY CHARGED? NO PREVIOUS INCIDENTS ON THIS MATTER THANK GOD. SHOULD RECALL ALL 07 EQUINOX AND HAVE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CHECKED.

SO, HER CAR DID NOT RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE! WHAT I'M UPSET ABOUT IS, THAT SHE HAS LOW MILEAGE ON HER CAR, AND HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, JUST RECENTLY, AND IT'S THE SAME MODEL AND YEAR, REGARDING THE RECALL, THAT DID NOT INVOLVE HER CAR! I WAS TOLD BY GM, THAT BECAUSE HER VIN # WAS NOT "IN" THE RECALL, THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO, BUT IF I WANTED TO, BECAUSE IT'S A SAFETY PROBLEM, THAT I COULD CONTACT YOU! AND "THEN" IF YOU TOLD THEM THAT IT WAS A SAFETY PROBLEM, WHICH IT IS, THAT YOU COULD THEN, GET IN TOUCH WITH GM, AND THEY WOULD TAKE CARE OF IT! SO, WHAT CAN BE DONE, THIS SHOULDN'T BE LIKE THIS!!! THE VEHICLE HAS STABLE TRACK LINK ERROR AND WILL NOT GO AWAY! PARTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED, BOTH AFTERMARKET AND SWAPPED FOR GENUINE GM AND STILL THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT IS ON. THE FUEL GAUGE DOESN'T WORK PROPERLY AND WILL JUST AT RANDOM SHOW OVER THE FULL MARK OR UNDER THE EMPTY MARK WHEN I HAVE PURCHASED FUEL ON THE SAME DAY. THE THROTTLE BODY HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 45,000 MILES WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND JUST SAT ON A BUSY ROAD.

IN ADDITION, THE BRAKES SEIZED SEVERAL TIMES INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STABILITY TRACTION CONTROL AND BRAKE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED RANDOMLY WHEN THE FAILURES OCCURRED. THE DEALER (JOHN THORNTON CHEVROLET, 1971 THORNTON RD, LITHIA SPRINGS, GA 30122, (678) 303-4071) INDICATED THAT THERE WAS BRAKE CONTAMINATION AND PROVIDED EXTENSIVE DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, BUT DID NOT SPECIFY WHICH PARTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS UNCERTAIN IF THERE WAS A PERMANENT REMEDY TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC STATED THAT THE ABS WOULD NEED TO BE FURTHER INSPECTED AND THAT THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER SUGGESTED THAT THE VEHICLE BE TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR BAG SENSOR FAILED, BUT A REMEDY WAS NOT PROVIDED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 07V344000 (AIR BAGS). THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND DID NOT OFFER FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO NHTSA. ALSO THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE FUEL SYSTEM AND AT THE TIME I DID NOT HAVE A PROBLEM AS OF YET, ON 9/29/15 I THEN SMELLED THE GAS AND CALLED MK SMITH CHEVROLET TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS ON THIS AND THEY TOLD ME NO, SO I DID TAKE IT SOMEWHERE ELSE TO BE FIXED DUE TO IT BEING CHEAPER FOR ME AND GOT IT FIXED AND PAID $633.60. I HAVE DOCUMENT FOR THAT. NOW MY KEY IN THE IGNITION DOES NOT COME OUT AND I HEAR A CLICKING NOISE BY THE IGNITION I'M NOT SURE IF THAT AS WELL IS A RECALL ON THE EQUINOX 2007. I GOT THIS CAR FROM FREDERI K AUTO CENTER IN MARCH. EVER SINCE THEN I HAD PROBLEMS. I TOLD THEM I LET THEM. KNKW ABOUT THEM AND THEY ALWAYS SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH IT. THE ONE TIME THEY WERE SUPOOSE TO FIX SOMETHING THEY HAD THE CAR FOR TWO DAYS AND RHEY PUT TAPE ALL OVER THE HOSES RO STOP THE LEAKS. WHEN TO DEALER, AND THE SERVICE GUY SAY "YOUR VEHICLE DOES NOT SHOW ANY OPEN RECALLS AND THAT ONLY CERTAIN ONE HAVE THAT FUEL PUMP MODULE RECALL. I TOLD HIM "LOOK AT THE LETTER" BUT I GOT NOWHERE. TRUE I HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED, BUT THE LETTER MENTIONS A REFUND. PLUS, DID I GET THE RIGHT REPLACEMENT PART OR SOME OTHER GENERIC PART? I HAVE ALSO HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH MY RADIO (ACTUALLY ALL SOUND IN THE CAR - INCLUDING TURN SIGNALS) THAT RANDOMLY JUST DONT WORK OR THAT WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED BLAST SOUND FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS BEFORE THE RADIO RETURNS TO NORMAL - BUT THE SIGNALS STILL PRODUCE A WIERD, SOMEWHAT ECHOING SOUND WHEN THEY DO CLICK. PUT THE KEY IN IGNITION AND KEY WONT TURN. LIKE THE IGNITION IS STUCK. GOT TO FIDDLE WITH IGNITION FOR @ 15 MINUTES AND FINALLY ITS "POPS LOOSE" AND LETS ME START IT. *TR

I BOUGHT A 2007 CHEVY EQUINOX NEW. A COUPLE OF DAYS AFTER TAKING IT HOME A STRANGE PROBLEM STARTED OCCURRING, AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM BETWEEN THE LEFT SPEAKERS AND THE DIRECTIONALS. A LOUD RAPID NOISE WOULD SUDDENLY COME THROUGH THE LEFT SPEAKERS AS I WAS DRIVING AND WOULD CONTINUE UNTIL I USED THE TURN SIGNAL (EITHER DIRECTION). I HAD THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES. FIRST I WAS TOLD THERE WAS AN INTERMITTENT SHORT IN THE RADIO, BUT THE RADIO REPLACEMENT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THEN THE LEFT TWEETER SPEAKER WAS CHANGED, THE RADIO RECALIBRATED (THREE TIMES), THE RADIO SOFTWARE UPDATED, AND FINALLY THE BODY CONTROL MODULE CHANGED. NONE OF THESE THINGS FIXED THE PROBLEM. THE GM ENGINEER LOOKED AT IT TWICE AND STILL COULDN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD NO OTHER GM PRODUCT IN THE ENTIRE COUNTRY HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS MY VEHICLE. WHEN I WENT TO THE GENERAL MANAGER OF THE DEALERSHIP AND TOLD HIM OF THE PROBLEM AND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS A LEMON, HE CONTACTED THE GM DISTRICT REP, WHO REFUSED TO REPLACE THE VEHICLE. I WAS FORCED TO TAKE GM TO ARBITRATION, AND NOW I AM GETTING MY MONEY BACK PLUS MY FILING FEE. THE PROBLEM IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SIGNIFICANTLY IMPAIRS THE VALUE OF THE VEHICLE. I AM TURNING THE EQUINOX IN NEXT WEEK, TAKING MY MONEY AND BUYING A HONDA CR-V. I WOULD NOT ADVISE ANYONE TO BUY AN EQUINOX AFTER MY EXPERIENCE, AND ESPECIALLY GM'S ATTITUDE. IN FACT, I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER GM PRODUCT. IF YOU HAVE HAD YOUR EQUINOX TO THE DEALER AT LEAST 4 TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND ARE STILL GETTING THE RUN AROUND AND NO RESOLUTION, FIRST WRITE TO THE CHEVY CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER FOR HELP IN REPAIRING THE VEHICLE. YOU WILL NEED TO DO THIS IN ORDER TO REQUEST A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE OR A REPURCHASE. SECOND, DON'T LET GM KEEP STRINGING YOU ALONG. FILE FOR ARBITRATION UNDER YOUR STATE'S LEMON LAW PROGRAM. IT'LL COME TO THAT ANYWAY. PLEASE, READ THE REVIEWS AND THE AUTO BLOGS ABOUT THIS VEHICLE ON LINE. EVEN THE NEWEST MODELS RATE POORLY. *TR

THE PASSENGER AIR BAG ONLY COMES ON NOW & THEN. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE GARAGE NUMEROUS TIMES. I'VE EXPLAINED WHAT HAPPENS. ALSO HAVE ISSUE WITH WIPES WORK, THEN NOT, BLINKERS WORK THEN NOT, BLINKERS DOUBLE CLICK. RADIO GETS REAL LOUD SOMETIMES, BEEPS WHEN DOOR OPEN REAL LOUD. HAVE REPLACED 3 BATTERIES & TWO STARTERS. BUT EVERYTIME IN GARAGE, HEAR "NOTHING WRONG". I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING MY CAR. I'M AFRAID IF I GET IN ACCIDENT MY AIR BAG WONT WORK. ALL THIS STARTED SIX MONTHS AFTER BOUGHT CAR. *TR

MY TRIP ODOMETER KEEPS RESETTING ON ITS OWN, WHEN YOUR GOING DOWN THE ROAD. ALSO MY CAR SOUNDS LIKE IT IS TAKING OFF WHEN STARTED THE FIRST TIME DURING THE DAY. I WAS TOLD IT WILL WARM UP AND GO AWAY. BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE THE EXHAUST IS FALLING OFF OR SOMETHING. I THINK THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE COMPUTER SINCE IT HAS BEEN. AND THE PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAG DOES NOT ALWAYS COME ON. RESET SEVERAL TIMES, BUT KEEPS DOING THE SAME THING WITH THE TRIP ODOMETER. *TR
