TAKATA INFLATORS , DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY 9 LOOKING AT DRIVER SIDE MIRROR WHEN I HEARD 2 LOAD BANGS TURNED MY HEAD BACK TO FRONT WINDSHEILD ALL I COULD SEE WAS LOOKED TO ME CLOUDS I THOUGHT I WAS IN HEAVEN , IT HAPPENED SO QUICK, I HIT GUARD RAIL, THEN TELEPHONE WIRE, WENT UP IN THE AIR, STILL SEEING CLOUDS, THAT I THOUGHT I WAS FINAILY IN HEAVEN. UNTIL I CAME DOWN AND LANDED ON ALL 4 WHEELS. I LOOKED UP AND SEEN TREES , THATS WHEN I KNEW I CAME BACK TO EARTH.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.

SHE SUSTAINED KNEE, CHEST, HEAD, AND FACIAL INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CHEVROLET DEALER REFERRED THE CONTACT TO GM, WHERE SHE FILED A CLAIM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000.
I OWN A 2005 CHEVROLET COLORADO WITH LESS THAN 50,000 MILES. WHEN I STARTED THE TRUCK THE AIRBAG LIGHT TYPICALLY WILL TURN AND BLINK. THIS WA SAN INDICATION OF THE AIRBAG SYSTEM TESTING ITSELF TO DETERMINE THAT THE SENSORS WERE WORKING PROPERLY. HOWEVER, THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS ON. IF YOU READ THE OWNERS MANUAL FOR THE COLORADO, IT STATED THAT IF THIS OCCURRED THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE IMMEDIATELY RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER FOR REPAIR. ALSO, THE MANUAL STATED CAUTION AND WAS FOLLOWED WITH NOTIFICATIONS WHICH STATED THAT THE AIRBAG SENSOR SYSTEM MAY NOT BE OPERATING PROPERLY AND THE AIRBAGS MAY NOT DEPLOY IF A CRASH OCCURRED OR THAT THE AIRBAGS MAY DEPLOY AT ANY TIME WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE. I HAVE ALREADY TAKEN THE TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP IN MARCH 2007,WHERE THEY CHARGED ME OVER $1,200, AND STATED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT COVERED BY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. AFTER REPEATED PHONE CONVERSATIONS WITH THE DELEARSHIP SERVICE CENTER AND GM CUSTOMER SERVICES THE DEALER FINALLY REPAIRED THE VEHICLE AT NO EXPENSE TO ME. THIS WAS GREAT, EXCEPT THESE DISPUTES OVER THE COSTS TOOK OVER 2 WEEKS WITH THE TRUCK IN THE SHOP, AND PROBLEM CAME BACK JULY 11,2007. IT SEEMED THAT THIS WAS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH CHEVROLET COLORADOS, AND THE CONSEQUENCES OF HAVING THIS TYPE OF PART FAILURE COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS AND DEADLY IF THE AIRBAG WERE TO DEPLOY AT A ANY TIME, PERHAPS WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH. IT SEEMED THAT COLORADO'S HAD MANY ELECTRICAL ISSUES WHICH NEEDED TO BE INVESTIGATED, AND GM SHOULD TAKE A MORE AGGRESSIVE APPROACH TO IDENTIIFYING THESE PROBLEMS WHICH WERE DANGEROUS FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS AND CORRECTING THEM. IT WA SVERY HARD TO FEEL SAFE AND COMFORTABLE DRIVING A CHEVROLET WHEN THE AIRBAG COULD DEPLOY AT ANY TIME BECAUSE OF A FAULTY AIRBAG ELECTRICAL SYSTEM.*AK
