Manufacturer has factory installed a device which automatically disables passenger side airbags when the passenger uses a seat cushion on the rather uncomfortable sport seat. We do not own a pet, nor do we use an infant car seat. We are a retied couple and the cushion is necessary in the passenger seat due to my wife's hip discomfort.

The contact owns a 2016 BMW X1. The contact stated that the airbag warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and the contact was informed that the airbag was faulty and the airbag module might be damaged and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no further assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 53,000.

Regarding "takata recall", I have had many times request to airbag recall, but bmw said always please wait, no room for recall during last 2 years.
